Ralph Blint

Ralph H. Blint, 81, of Fort Madison, died at 6:15 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at the Fort Madison Community Hospital.

Born Feb. 24, 1922, in West Point, he was the son of William and Nellie Donnelly Blint. On Sept. 14, 1943, he married Henrietta Pomberg in San Antonio.

Mr. Blint retired from the Santa Fe Railroad after 44 years of service, and also was a retired farmer. He was a lifelong resident of the West Point area and a World War II Army veteran.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, West Point American Legion and the Elks & Eagles of Fort Madison.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Larry Blint of rural Fort Madison; one daughter, Kathleen Blint of Omaha, Neb.; two grandchildren; two great–grandchildren, and two brothers, Dean Blint of Oakville and Lloyd Blint of Janesville, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will begin after noon Tuesday with a rosary recited at 3 p.m. and a Christian vigil service at 7:30 p.m. at Link Funeral Home in West Point.

The Mass of Christian burial for Mr. Blint will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Point with the Rev. Apo T. Mpanda officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in West Point. Military rites will be conducted by the West Point American Legion Post No. 668.

Memorials have been established for St. Mary's Catholic Church and Marquette Schools.

Wilson Hubbard

Wilson B. Hubbard, 88, of the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Ill., formerly of West Point, Ill., died at 7:28 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at the veterans home.

Born June 22, 1916, in Colusa, Ill., he was the son of George W. and Florence M. Blythe Hubbard. On July 6, 1940, he married Opal Waneta Heaton in Kahoka, Mo. She died Dec. 21, 1978. On Aug. 22, 1981, he married Marian Louise Philp Becker in Burlington. She died May 26, 1997.

Mr. Hubbard farmed in the West Point area for about 25 years.

He was a graduate of Colusa High School and was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Sutter, Ill., and for several years was a leader for St. Albans Pioneer 4–H Club.

Survivors include three sons, Howard G. Hubbard of Hull, Ill., Martin S. Hubbard of Jesup and James W. Hubbard of Stillwell, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Leona Byers of Burlington; two stepsons, Ross Becker of Bonaparte and Joe Becker of Burlington; 11 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; eight great–grandchildren; seven stepgreat–grandchildren; and one sister, Thelma Edstrom of Billings, Mont.

Besides his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, three brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today at Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Hubbard will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lamporte Funeral Home, with the Rev. Terry Rankin officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Church Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.

Virginia Eller

Virginia L. Eller, 83, of Keokuk, died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, in Hamilton, Ill. Arrangements are pending at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk.

Jennie Gallup

Jennie Lee Gallup, 87, of Burlington, died at 2:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at Burlington Care Center. Arrangements are pending at Hass–Thielen Funeral Home.

Mary Strawhacker

Mary Frances Strawhacker, 83, of Bickford Cottage in Burlington, formerly of rural Mediapolis, died Friday evening, Dec. 3, 2004, at Bickford Cottage.

Born Feb. 19, 1919, in Pittsburgh, Pa., she was the daughter of John Alfonse and Elizabeth Agatha Kennedy Flanagan. She married Lawrence Frederick Strawhacker on April 21, 1945, in Oxnard, Calif. He died Sept. 2, 1994.

Mrs. Strawhacker was a graduate of the Erie, Pa., high school. She was a homemaker and worked as a home health aide.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dodgeville, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Sunshine Club.

Survivors include one son, John Strawhacker of Burlington; one daughter, Kathleen Strawhacker of Sterling, Va.; and one grandson.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, three sisters and one brother.

Visitation will be from noon to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Strawhacker will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dodgeville, with the Rev. Gerald Stouvenel officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Church Cemetery in Kingston.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.

W. Alan Smith, Ph.D.

Al Smith of Canon City Co., formerly of Morning Sun Iowa and Lewisburg Pa., died May 10, 2001, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

He was born on April 14, 1941, in Morning Sun, Iowa, to Jack and Susan Smith. He grew up fishing on the Mississippi and hunting in the area with his father, brother, and many friends.

Dr. Smith received his Bachelors and Masters degrees of science from Iowa State University. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Psychology from the University of Missouri at Columbia.

Dr. Smith worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons in several prisons, which also included profiling prospective candidates for the Witness Protection Program.

His passion was the outdoors, which included hunting, fishing and golfing. He particularly enjoyed spending time on the Mississippi and in the mountains of Colorado.

He was active in the Noon Lions Club of Canon City, CO. He was a Lifetime Golden Eagle Member of the NRA.

Dr. Smith is survived by his wife Barbara of Canon City, parents Jack and Susan of Morning Sun, Iowa, son Jeff and his wife Jen of Gilbert, AZ., daughter Lynn Smith Gilbride and her husband Ken of Bozeman, MT., brother Jeff, his wife Debra, their daughters Alison and Sarah of Sandy, Utah, sister Sonja Smith Suitor and her husband Doug of Fort Meyers, FL., brother-in-law Larry Pope, and his wife Dianne of Des Moines, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fremont County Youth Firearms Safety Program at First National Bank, or Christ Episcopal Church of Canon City, CO.A memorial will be held in Morning Sun, Iowa at an upcoming date.

Ann Weston

Ann M. Weston, 78, of Lockridge, died at 3:50 a.m. Monday, May 14, 2001, at University Hospitals in Iowa City, from injuries received in a car accident in Mount Pleasant.

Born Dec. 17, 1922, in Gary, Ind., she was the daughter of John and Catherine Castelich. She married Frank E. Weston on June 8, 1946, in Gary, Ind. He died June 20, 1998.
Mrs. Weston grew up and graduated from high school in Gary. She attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant and worked as secretary to the vice president of the college for 10 years. She and her husband owned and operated Weston Burial Vault Co. in Fairfield for a number of years.

She was a member of First Augustana Lutheran Church in Lockridge, Fairfield Lionels, past president of Fairfield Women's Club and president of Fairfield Women's Club Chorus, Farm Bureau, precinct committee person of the Republican Women, a member of the McElhinney Foundation, a charter member of Jefferson County Hospice and a member of Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary. She served for two years Cluster 8 Southeastern Iowa Synod of the Women of the ELCA and served the group as the first coordinator and vice president.

Survivors include two daughters, Vivian Ozanne of West Haven, Conn., and Claudia Genkinger of Mount Pleasant; two sons, David Weston of Dallas, Texas, and John Weston of Palm Desert, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, William Castle of Longmont, Colo.; and one sister, Louise Winchester of Patagonia, Ariz.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

The funeral for Mrs. Weston will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Augustana Lutheran Church in Lockridge, with the Rev. Jane S. Keel officiating. Burial will be in Lockridge Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for her church or the charity of the donor's choice.

Clinton Boshart

Clinton "Pete" Boshart, 84, of Washington, Iowa, died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral arrangements are pending at Beatty Funeral Home in Washington.

Datie Walker

Datie A. Walker, 90, of Mount Pleasant, died at 6:35 a.m. Monday, May 14, 2001, at Pleasant Manor Care Center. Funeral arrangements are pending at Beatty Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant.

Gladys Butler

Gladys Laura Butler, 79, of 1524 Concert, St., Keokuk, died at 9:02 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2001, at the home of her daughter, Sharon Kase.

Born May 14, 1921, in Canton, Mo., she was the daughter of William Andrew Jackson and Pearl Myrtle Gray Phillips. She married Edward J. Butler on May 27, 1948, in Richmond, Mo. He died July 25, 1986.
Mrs. Butler lived in Keokuk most of her life. She worked in production at the Keokuk Pickle Factory and also worked at Henry County Hospital in Mount Pleasant.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Keokuk. She loved to sew and cook.

Survivors include two daughters, Beverly A. Brookhart and Sharon K. Kase, both of Keokuk; 11 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Juliann Rash of Milton Freewater, Ore., and Bessie Mae Kite of Farmington.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, including one in infancy, two brothers, three sisters and one great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk, with the family present during that time.

The funeral for Mrs. Butler will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Matt Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Buena Vista Cemetery in Keokuk at a later date, because of high water due to the flood.

James Colley

James Gordon Colley, 67, of Purcell, Okla., formerly of Oquawka, Ill., died at 5:56 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2001, at Norman Regional Hospital in Norman, Okla.

Born April 4, 1934, in Oquawka, Ill., he was the son of Gordon John and Ida Louise Nelson Colley.
Mr. Colley was raised and educated in Oquawka and was an Army veteran. He first worked as a rigger in the oil fields in Oklahoma. More recently he was a carpenter and handyman, working independently in the Norman area.

Survivors include four sisters, Ann Ward of Rock Island, Ill., Peggy Venard of Monmouth, Ill., Ruby MaGuire of Oquawka, Ill., and Colleen Garza of Clarksville, Ark.; two brothers, Charles Colley of Oquawka and Dennis Colley of Washington, Okla.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one sister and one brother.

Visitation will begin Wednesday at the Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, where the family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday.

The funeral for Mr. Colley will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Suzanne Geer officiating. Burial will be in Oquawka Cemetery.

John Schuck

The graveside service for John M. Schuck, 35, of Keosauqua, who died Saturday, March 24, 2001, in a snowmobile accident near Jacobson, Minn., will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Spencer Cemetery , near Stockport, with the Rev. Michael Mosier officiating.

A memorial has been established for his children's education.
Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph Jankowski

Joseph P. Jankowski, 89, of Burlington, died at 8:50 a.m. Monday, May 14, 2001, at Great River Medical Center Klein Center.

Born Dec. 8, 1911, in Burlington, he was the son of Albert and Vincie Kopriva Jankowski. He married Marguerite E. Hartman on June 12, 1935, in Kahoka, Mo.
Mr. Jankowski attended St. John's Catholic School. He worked for the railroad in 1927, at Northwest Cabinet in 1935, La Plant Shult in Cedar Rapids and the Embalming & Burial Co. He was a welder for Hartman Aircraft Shop and also worked at the Iowa Ordnance Plant and Case Co. During World War II, he worked at Athson Aircraft in Indiana and Murray Iron Works. He was a tool and die maker for Shaeffer Pen Co. for 28 years, retiring in 1975.

He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and a past member of Knights of Columbus, Cascade Boat Club and the Eagles. He was a musician in a band, playing organ, guitar and banjo. He loved boating, hunting and his dogs, especially his Labrador retrievers.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Joan Knotts of Burlington and Dorothy Whitaker of Mediapolis; two sons, Larry P. and Joseph A. Jankowski, both of Burlington; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Dickson of Haines City, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild.

Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Wednesday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The graveside funeral service for Mr. Jankowski will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Aspen Grove Cemetery , with the Rev. Gerald Stouvenel officiating.

A memorial has been established.
