Blanch Mae Fuller (nee) Woodliff

Blanch Mae Fuller, 102, Clear Lake, died Monday, Aug. 28, 1995, at
Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake. Funeral services were held Saturday,
Sept. 2, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev.
Bernard Olson officiating. Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Blanch was born Sept. 7, 1892, in Norwalk, Wis., the daughter of
Frederick Thomas Woodliff and Lillian Mae Woodliff (nee) Beetle. She
attended school in Norwalk and was employed as a hired girl.

She met her future husband when she and a brother went to
Dakota to work as ranch house cook and hired hand for a threshing crew.
The workers included Lewis Lester Fuller, of Clear Lake. After returning
to their respective homes, Lewis later traveled to Wisconsin to make
Blanch his bride. They were married Feb. 2, 1912, in LaCrosse, Wis. They
returned to South Dakota for a year and then settled in Clear Lake. She
worked in restaurants and as a practical nurse.

Her hobbies included baking, crocheting afghans and piecing qults.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake and the
Grandmother's Club.
She is survived by three grandsons, Larry Fuller, Clear Lake,
Anthony Fuller, Granada Hills, Calif., and Mark Fuller,
Beatrice, Neb.; and a half-sister, Vella Nelson, Minneapolis, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons,
Lester Fuller and Fredrick Fuller; infant twin daughters;
two brothers, Fredrick Woodliff and Harvey Woodliff; a grand-daughter,
Joan Nissen; and two half-sisters and two half-brothers.

Hazel Evelyn Taylor (nee) Gift

Hazel Evelyn (Gift) Taylor, 97, of Mason City, Iowa, died Monday,
Aug. 28, 1995.
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 1, at the United Methodist
Church in Dallas Center, Iowa, with the Rev. Sushil Joseph officiating.
Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery, Dallas Center. The family suggests
memorials to the Hazel E. Taylor memorial fund.

Hazel Evelyn Gift was born Sept. 28, 1897 to Frank Gift and
Anna (nee) Barmore Gift at Orangeville, Ill., the second of eight
children.

In 1903, the family moved by train, livestock and machinery to
Sheldon, Iowa, where they farmed for five years. In 1908, they purchased
a farm at Dallas Center, Iowa, where they lived for many years. After
graduating from high school, Hazel taught country schools for two years,
then majored in elementary education at Iowa State College, Ames, Iowa.

On June 2, 1920 she was united in marriage to Harry E. Taylor in
her parent's home. They remained on the farm from 1920 to 1945. They
became the parents of seven children, six sons and one daughter.

On March 1, 1945, the family moved to a farm at Swaledale, Iowa.
Due to health reasons Harry and Hazel and the three youngest children
moved to Tucson, Ariz. in 1948. In 1973 the parents moved back to
Mason City.

Hazel is survived by six children, Howard Taylor and his wife,
Elaine, Clear Lake, Gordon Taylor and his wife, Eva, Mason City,
Donald Taylor and his wife, Betty, Mason City, Ralph Taylor and
his wife, Shirley, Tucson, Ariz., Marilyn and her husband, Warren Custer,
Hugo, Okla., and Dr. Wendell Taylor and his wife, Marge of Seminole,
Fla.; 22 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren; two sisters,
Dorothy McKelvey and Lorene Mullins, both of Dallas Center; and one
brother, Robert Gift, Marshalltown, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry E. Taylor,
who died July 7, 1982; a son, Allen Robert Taylor, who died in 1933 in
a farm accident; two brothers, Lester and Harry Gift; two sisters,
Lois Elliott and Ethel Aldrich.

Evelyn Friesz was organist, and special music was provided by
Sons Quintet, accompanied by Marilyn Custer.

David (Rev.) Merwin

Reverend David Merwin, 63, formerly of Clear Lake, died Aug. 29,
1995, at St. Vincint's Hospital, Portland, Ore. Rev. Merwin served
in the United States Army in Korea, and later went back to Korea
to minister as a Missionary for many years. Upon returning to the United
States he pastored churches in Evansville, Ind., and Portland, Ore.

He is survived by his wife, Judy, of Alaho, Ore.; two daughters,
Stephanie and her husband, Darrald Fast, and Sarah and her husband,
Michael Miller; four grandchildren; four brothers, Arthur Merwin
and his wife, Mabel, Clear Lake, Jim Merwin, Clear Lake, Ralph Merwin
and his wife, Helen, Franklin, Tenn., Paul Merwin and...

...Jackson, Tenn., Carol May and her husband, E.C. Wilson, Jackson,
Tenn., Althea McClendon, Henderson, Tenn., Sara and her husband,
Ed Lyon, Memphis, Tenn., and Pauline and her husband, Sam Milam,
Paducah, Ky.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister.

Fannie Hyde (nee) Abel

Fannie Abel, 98, of Ventura, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 1995, at the
I.O.O.F. Home, Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 1, at Major Erickson
Funeral Home, Mason City, with the Rev. David Anderson of ...

Fannie Able was born May 7, 1897, in Ventura, the daughter of
Amos Hyde and Betsy Hyde (nee) Thronson. Fannie attended
country school near Ventura. She married Arthur Abel on Feb. 8, 1922
in Ventura. They farmed for many years in the Ventura and Garner areas.

She was a member of the Ventura United Methodist Church, Dorcas
Lady's Circle, Union Dozen Club, Thought and Thimble Club, Ventura
Women's Club and was an active member of the Senior Citizen's Center
in Ventura.

She is survived by a son, Ronald Abel and his wife, Dixie, Overland
Park., Kan.; one daughter, Lorraine Reynolds of Mason City; eight
grandchildren, Steven Abel, Edward Abel, Jeanne FitzGerald, Joan Moore,
Allan Reynolds, Ann Hussong, Kay Legler and Dawn Moore; 16 great-
grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Arthur in 1978;
one son, Keith Abel in 1954; four brothers, John Hyde, Jim Hyde,
Charles Hyde and Samuel Hyde ; three sisters, Florence, Myrtle
and Hazel; and one son-in-law, Rolland Reynolds, in 1987.

Helen O. Smith (nee) Goldsmith

Mrs. Helen O. Smith, 72, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, Aug. 31,
1995, at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Open Bible Church,
Clear Lake, with Pastor Will Hunsacker officiating. Interment was in the
Clear Lake Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Helen O.
Smith memorial fund.

Helen was born June 1, 1923 in Clinton, Minn., the daughter of
Howard Goldsmith and Christine Goldsmith (nee) Berg. She
attended school in Clinton, Minn.

Helen and her family moved to Clear Lake in 1955. She married
Ronald B. Smith on April 22, 1961 in Clear Lake. She attended the Open
Bible Church, Clear Lake.

She is survived by three children, Judith Waters, West Des Moines,
Iowa, Jacquline Dybdahl and her husband, Gary, Clinton, Minn., and
Larry Otten and his wife, Grace, Cresco, Iowa; 12 grandchildren;
five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Goldsmith, Ortonville,
Minn., and Vernon Goldsmith and his wife Gertie, Big Stone City,
South Dakota; two sisters, Erma Alberts, Clinton, Minn., and
Alice Goldsmith, Ortonville, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ronald Smith
in 1994; and two brothers...

Helen Anna Davis (nee) Renz

Helen Anna Davis, 88, of Clear Lake, died Monday, Sept. 4, 1995 at
the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 7, at the United Methodist
Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Burial services
were held Thursday, Sept. 7, at the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake,
with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake
Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the United Methodist Church.

Helen was born May 20, 1907, near Eureka, Ill., the daughter of
Edward Renz and Anna Renz (nee) Hamilton. The family moved to
Pierre, S. Dak., for three years, then traveled to Clear Lake.
She received her education in Clear Lake, graduating in 1925. She
then attended college in Boulder, Colo., studying home economics.

On July 14, 1929 she married Clair Davis in Clear Lake. The couple
lived in Mason City for a short time, where Clair was a member of the
police force. She helped Clair to operate a peanut vending machine
business over a 50-mile radius for several years before starting a family.
Helen was co-owner of the Tot-To-Teen Shop in Clear Lake from 1951-56
with Francis Miller.

Helen was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake
and helped with the Sunday School programs there for 43 years. She was
also a member of the Sorosis Club.

She is survived by a son, Jerry Davis, Clear Lake; a daughter,
Judy Lincicum and her husband, Clayton, Clear Lake; six grandchildren,
Dawn Ann Theilen and her husband, Tim, Clear Lake, Dan Lincicum,
Clear Lake, Daren Lincicum of Fertile, Iowa, Wendy Lincicum of
Des Moines, Iowa, Dawn Marie Chadrick of Clear Lake, and
Jennifer Davis of Des Moines; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clair in 1979;
a sister, Thelma Ratkovich; two half-brothers, Vernon and Harold
Richardson; and one great-granddaughter, Abby Marie Theilen.
