Russell Earl Barry
RUDD - Funeral services for Russell E. Barry, 80, of 614 Decker St., Rudd,
will be held at 11 a.m. today at the United Methodist Church in Rudd,
with the Rev. W.C. ``Bill" Trembly officiating. Burial will be in
the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene with military rites conducted by
the Tack Barnett Post 268 American Legion of Greene. Visitation was
held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Reid's Funeral Chapel,
Greene, where there was a 7:30 p.m. public Scripture service.
Visitation will continue one hour before services today at the church.
Russell Earl Barry was born May 20, 1915, in Charles City, a son of
Thomas Barry and Myra (nee) Fairbanks Barry and died Tuesday
(May 30, 1995) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City,
from complications of heart surgery.
He received his education in the Charles City Public Schools and was
inducted into the United States Army on Nov. 14, 1942, where he served
in the Rhinelands, Ardennes and the European Theater during
World War II. Following the end of the war, he re-enlisted in the
Army Air Force where he was stationed stateside until his discharge
on Dec. 16, 1949. He entered the United States Air Force on
Dec. 17, 1949, where he served with the 2nd Medical Group Hunter AFB,
Savannah, Ga,. during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged on
Sept. 7, 1953.
On March 22, 1949, he was united in marriage to Eileen E. Raymond
at the Methodist parsonage in Hampton. Following his discharge,
they made their home in Greene where he operated Barry Installation
Service and Furniture Repair.
In 1963, the family moved to Arizona and later to Huntington Beach,
Calif., where they lived for 25 years. He was employed by the
Shim's Gasket Company and was part owner of Sharps Aquatic Park
Shell Service Station in Huntington Beach, Calif. Following their
retirement, they moved to Houston, Texas, in 1988 and returned to
Iowa in 1992 making their home in Rudd. His interests included
woodworking, fishing, and working out in the yard. Russ was
considered an avid reader and one who was in search of knowledge.
He also enjoyed bird watching. He was a member of the American Legion.
Living family members included his loving wife of 46 years,
Eileen of Rudd; one daughter, Susan Kay Campbell of Lakeland, Texas;
two sons, Charles Russell and his wife, Sharon Barry of Cypress,
Texas, and Richard Allan Barry of Mason City; one stepson,
Larry Raymond of Waukon; three grandchildren, Ronald Russell Campbell,
Kristine Marie Barry and Stephanie Marie Barry; six step-grandchildren,
Mike Raymond, Joseph Raymond, and Larry Raymond Jr.,
Joe Raymond, Paul Raymond and Roberta Raymond;
and one stepgreat-grandchild, Seth Raymond.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Louise Carmichael;
two brothers, Jack Barry and Dale Barry; and a stepson,
Kenneth Raymond in 1986.
Memorials may be directed to the Russell E. Barry Memorial Fund
in care of the family.
Margaret Harms
ALGONA - Margaret Harms, 69, of Algona, died Monday (May 29, 1995)
at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City. Funeral services
will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church,
with the Rev. Donald Seeger officiating. Burial will be in Laurel
Hill Cemetery, Irvington. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today
at Geilenfeld-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona, with a 7 p.m.
VFW Auxiliary service. There will be further visitation at 9 a.m.
Friday at the church.
Margaret Harms was born June 2, 1925, in LuVerne.
Survivors include two sons, Russell Harms of Duncombe and
Richard Harms of Milo; five daughters, Sharon Piatt of Huxley;
Patricia Weishaar of Algona; Linda Hensley of Columbus, Ind.;
Judy Wickman of Algona, and Cynthia Bruellman of Ottosen;
14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters,
Shirley Norris and Donna Mae Walker, both of Algona, and
Marvel Culbertson of Lone Rock; and one brother, Donald Hansen
of Algona.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one son
and one brother.
Anthony Gus Kantaris
MASON CITY - Anthony Gus ``Tony" Kantaris, 42, of 833 Eighth St. S.E., died
Monday (May 29, 1995) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East of
an aortic aneurysm. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m.
today at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Transfiguration,
1311 Second St. S.W., with the Rev. Joseph Mirowski officiating.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation was held
from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel,
126 Third St. N.E., where a Trisagion prayer service was held at 7 p.m.
Memorials in memory of Tony may be given to the Greek Orthodox
Church of the Transfiguration, 1311 Second St. S.W., Mason City,
Iowa 50401.
Tony was born March 10, 1953, at Mason City, son of
Gus James Kantaris and Caroline Mary (nee) Jordan Kantaris.
He was a 1971 graduate of Johnson High School, Sioux Falls, S.D.
Tony inspired his father to open a restaurant which became the
Athenian Supper Club. He worked at the Athenian for 14 years.
After his family sold the Athenian Supper Club, Tony worked at the
Prime N Wine for seven years. Currently Tony worked at Diamond
K's Supper Club, Clear Lake. Tony enjoyed spending time with his
family and friends, traveling and fishing.
He will be remembered for his kind heart. Tony will be truly missed
by his family and loved ones. He is survived by his father,
Gus James Kantaris and his special friend, Sharon Thornton,
both of Mason City; his fiancee, Paula Rickoff Moore, of Mason City;
three sisters, Kym Sutton and her husband, Randy, of Taylorville,
Ill.; Jami Craig and her husband, Jeff, of Mason City; Dena Hahn
and her husband, Kris, of Mason City; four nieces, including a
special niece, Mary Krauth Sutton of Mason City; Katherine Sutton,
of Taylorville, Ill.; Caroline Morel of Mason City: Natalie Morel
of Mason City; a nephew, Kristofer Hahn of Mason City; eight aunts,
Stella Markos of Mason City, Helen Sponduris of Mason City;
Irene Gazes of Mason City; Cristina Klein of Mason City;
Annie Aptoslou of Detroit, Mich.; Mary Triantasillou of
Detroit, Mich.; Betty Armoskos, of Alameda, Calif., and
Jane Oliver and her husband, Jerry, of Safford, Ariz.; and
many friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Caroline Mary Jordan Kantaris;
grandparents, Demitrios and Kallopie Kantaris and Albert and
Lucille Jordan.
Harry Dale Arnold
MASON CITY - Harry Dale Arnold, 86, of 625 S. Connecticut Ave., died
Tuesday (May 30, 1995) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph
Catholic Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Carl A. Ries officiating.
Burial will be in the Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery with a military
flag folding ceremony by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.
Friends may call beginning at 6:30 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. Scripture
prayer service at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E.
The family of Harry Dale Arnold has requested that memorial
contributions be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church in his memory.
Harry Dale Arnold was born Aug. 9, 1908, the son of
Arthur W. Arnold and Agnes (nee) Cross Arnold in Mason City.
He attended and received his education in the St. Joseph Catholic
School system, graduating from St. Joseph Catholic High School in 1926.
He was inducted into the United States Navy serving on an
L.S.T. #1041 during World War II in the Pacific Theatre until his
honorable discharge. Harry was always self-employed in which he
owned and operated the Standard Oil Station on South Federal and
also farmed near Rockwell and Dougherty for many years until his
retirement.
He was united in marriage to Hazel Pattschull who preceded him in
death in 1954. He was united in marriage to Margaret Rose McGreevy
in 1958, who preceded him in death on April 19, 1995.
He was an avid walker and outdoorsman, in which he enjoyed hunting
and fishing. He was a life-long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church
in Mason City.
Survivors include two sons-in-law, Donald Carlson of Rochester, Minn.,
and Joe Barr of Monticello, Minn.; nine grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives;
Hazel (Pattschull) Arnold; and Margaret Rose (McGreevy) Arnold;
two daughters, Ruth Carlson and Jean Barr; and other sibling
family members.
Neva N. Cisne
MASON CITY - Mrs. Elmer W. (Neva N.) Cisne, 93, of 302 Second St. N.E., died
Wednesday (May 31, 1995) at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Hogan-Bremer
Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Rev. Paul Boostrom
of First Christian Church officiating. There will be no public
visitation.
Following cremation, interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Fort Dodge.
Neva (nee) Marken Cisne was born Nov. 16, 1901, in Ortonville, Minn.,
to Daniel Marken and Elizabeth (Hannah) Marken.
On March 23, 1921, she was married to Elmer W. Cisne in the Church of
Christ, Mason City, by her brother, the Rev. DeLoss I. Marken. She
was a member of the First Christian Church. For many years, she was
a secretary/bookkeeper and later a partner of Bracken Insurance
Agency, Mason City.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Helen Marken of Atlanta, Ga.;
a niece, June Marken Doster, Atlanta, Ga.; a nephew, Robert Marken
of Milner, Ga.; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer, who
died July 3, 1984; a sister, Edith Marken; and two brothers, the
Rev. Roy Marken and the Rev. DeLoss I. Marken.
Dwight E. Werk
OSAGE - Dwight E. Werk, 72, formerly of Charles City, died Monday
(May 29, 1995) at the Stacyville Nursing Home. Graveside committal
services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Riverside Cemetery,
Charles City, with the Rev. James Pittman officiating. Visitation
will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home,
Charles City.
Dwight E. Werk was born Dec. 7, 1922, in Charles City.
He is survived by many cousins.
