He is survived by two daughters, Connie Bryngelson of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Jeri Jeffries of Marshalltown, Iowa; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Elsie Henkle of Vinton, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; two sisters, Hilda Keiper and Esther Sternberg; and three brothers, Louis, Carl and Frederick Schueler.

He graduated from Van Horne High School at Van Horne, Iowa in 1929 and attended a barber school in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He enjoyed woodworking and building furniture and picture frames

Survivors include his wife, Juanita of Grinnell; his children and their spouses, Rosemary and Warren Weaver of Grinnell, Patricia and Richard Trucks of Lenox, Beverly and Tom Olson of Round Rock, Texas, Catherine and Roger Gilbreaith of Newton, Debra and Greg Mielak of Grinnell; Jacqueline Davis and Tom Loucks of Grinnell, and Carol Osborn of Grinnell; one sister, Mary Ann Sprague of Lincoln, Nebraska; one sister-in-law, Olive Davis of Mt. Ayr; nineteen grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Nancy Mathes; and one brother, Paul Davis.

Graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1941.

He was a member of the Grinnell Eagles Lodge, Grinnell Elks Lodge, and the Farm Bureau. Stinky loved his life on the farm and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He instilled a strong work ethic in his daughters, took great pride in running a successful farm operation, and was inventive with farm machinery. He thoroughly enjoyed attending auctions, cattle sales, and collecting antiques. He also enjoyed beekeeping, card playing with family and friends, attending stock car races, and watching movies on the old west.

Survivors include her son, Rick Barnes of Grinnell; three daughters, Linda Harbin of Grinnell, Diane Ewalt of Mansfield, Texas and Alyce Van Gilder of Denver, Colorado; two step-daughters, Beverly Lyons of Kingsport, TN and Carol Hampton of Stafford, AZ; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Anna Belle was born on February 12, 1920, in rural Marion County, near Monroe, Iowa to William and Nola Kain May. She was raised on the family farm and attended rural schools. During her high school years she lived in Long Beach, California and graduated from high school there. She was married to Woodrow Jones in California and they had two daughters, Diane and Alyce. The marriage ended in divorce and she moved to Gilman, Iowa. On March 22, 1948, she was married to Walter A. (Jake) Barnes in Long Beach. Anna Belle and Jake lived in Grinnell following their marriage. They owned and operated two gas stations and a tank wagon service in Grinnell. She also worked in the food service of the Grinnell School System and as a sales clerk for Squire’s Home Decorating and Graham’s Department Store. She has resided at Seeland Park in Grinnell since 1998.

Anna Belle was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Beta Sigma Phi and the Netaker Temple #11 of the Daughter’s of the Nile. She enjoyed collecting crystal, bells, coins and shopping.

Memorials may be directed to the Shriner’s Crippled Children’s Hospital or to the United Methodist Church.

The daughter of William and Sylva Ava Tish Foster, Gladys was born March 4, 1921, on her parent’s farm in rural Grinnell. She attended Maple Grove #8 and Washington #1 rural schools near her home and was a 1939 graduate of Grinnell High School. She was married to Marvin Dale Stowe and to this union one son was born, Dennis Lynn Stowe. She made her home in Grinnell and worked long and hard as a cab driver and as a store clerk at J.C. Penny’s for several years. She later was a long-time employee of General Telephone of Central Iowa and then G.T.E of the Midwest working up from telephone operator to supervisor of various departments. She retired in 1987. She had been a resident of Friendship Manor in Grinnell since 1997. Gladys was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grinnell. She took great pride in caring for her home and yard, and enjoyed tending to her garden, needle work, and cooking. She loved to fly in small planes with her son as pilot. Survivors include one son, Dennis of Carlisle; one sister, Lola Baustian of Grinnell; and one niece, Denise Baustian of Grinnell. Gladys died March 11, 2004, at Friendship Manor, at the age of 83. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son’s father, Marvin Stowe.

Stuart G. McDaniel

Graveside Service: 10:30 am, Tuesday March 23, 2004 at Lakeview Section of Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis McDaniel of Punta Gorda; two sons, Jeffrey S. McDaniel of Mobile, Alabama and Scott G. McDaniel of Huntsville, Alabama; one sister, Jackie MacMillan of Kirkwood, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. McDaniel was born on March 11, 1939, in St. Louis, Missouri. He was raised in St. Louis and received his education there.

During the Korean Conflict he served with the United States Army.

Following his military service he attended the University of Missouri and received a BA degree.

On May 23, 1965, he was married to Phyllis Hamman at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Grinnell.

The couple lived for a short time in Grinnell and he was associated with General Telephone Company.

The family lived in various areas of the United States and he was a comptroller for General Telephone Company and Continental Telephone Company.

Prior to his retirement he served as a Vice President for the Associated Utility Services in New Jersey.

Following his retirement he moved to Punta Gorda in 1996.

He was a member of the Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club and the Punta Gorda Elks Lodge.

He also served on the Water Commission Board for the City of Punta Gorda.

The daughter of Oliver and Bertha Adams Ladd, she was born November 6, 1909, in Jasper County, Iowa.

She was raised in the Brooklyn area and was a 1927 graduate of Brooklyn High School.

She taught school in rural schools near Brooklyn for several years.

She was married to Lawrence Breneman February 18, 1933, in Worthington, Minnesota.

The couple farmed near Brooklyn and later moved in 1950 to a farm near Grinnell.

They retired to Grinnell in 1977 and she had been a resident of Brookhaven since 1996.

She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.

Survivors include two children, Faye Rohwedder of Janesville, Iowa and Dennis Breneman of Oxford, Wisconsin; one sister, Ann Rogan of Beaumont, Texas; five grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers; and four sisters, including former Brooklyn resident, Sara Montgomery.

Floyd E. Collins

He was born on September 13, 1915, in Schyler County, in Worthington, Missouri to Cleo Vance and Maude Ester Collins. He was raised on the family farm near Worthington and graduated from Worthington High School. He was a member of the Baptist Church in Worthington. He and a group of twenty young people would go to both the Baptist and Christian Churches to sing in the choir. He met and married Vernadine Grace Flynn and they were the parents of three daughters, Billie, Donna and Roberta (Micah). The couple lived in Missouri and Iowa most of their married life. During World War II they lived in Rockford, Illinois, where he worked as a foreman in a plant that built airplanes for the war effort. Later, the family moved to Grinnell, Iowa and he spent over thirty years as a night manager of the Chief Alfalfa Plant. Mr. Collins enjoyed researching genealogy and contributed to two separate hard bound books on the Collins family. He enjoyed nature, wildlife, hunting and fishing. During the 1960's, he belonged to the Grinnell Saddle Club, where he rode saddle horses and trained pulling horses. He was also a farrier for many years. He was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Grinnell. Survivors include his wife, Vernadine Collins of Grinnell; three daughters, Billie Byers, and husband Raymond of Tampa, Florida, Donna Culver and husband R.D., of Melbourne, Florida and Roberta (Micah) Rasner, and husband Roger, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three sisters, Elsie Oliver of Queen City, Okylle Steen of Princeton, Iowa and E. Sharlene Rowland of Unionville, Missouri; and one brother, Robert Collins of Las Cruces, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gerald Collins and Loyde Collins (his twin brother); as well as three sisters, Roberta, Nadine and Estaline; and two brothers, Olin and Warren that died in infancy or as young children.

Warner was born June 8, 1928 on a farm in Sullivan County near Milan, Missouri, the son of William Glenn Steele and Zulah June Davis. He received his elementary education in the rural schools in Sullivan County and was a 1946 graduate of Milan High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army. On January 11, 1953, he was united in marriage to Shirley Lou Lawrence in Milan, Missouri. They then moved to Grinnell where he was employed with Maytag Company in Newton. In 1957, Warner bought the Shell Station which he operated until 1961 when he became manager of the Marengo Trucker's Inn for a few years. He then purchased the Pioneer Oil Station and began his love of landscaping on a part-time basis. From 1972 to 1977, he was employed at Farmhand and then established his own business, Warner's Landscaping, which he was still actively working the day of his death. He was also well known in the community for his snow removal for forty years. He was a past member of the Grinnell American Legion, Elks Lodge and Eagles Lodge. Warner is survived by his wife, Shirley; one son Terry; and one daughter, Cheri Monteleone; all of Grinnell; one sister, Dora Belle Clark of Kirksville, Missouri; four granddaughters, Tawny Monteleone, and Tyne, Tiffini, and Alexis Steele and their mother, Mary Steele. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister in infancy, Ella Mae; one brother, Glenn Steele, Jr. and one brother-in-law, Jim Clark.

He was born on February 9, 1927, on the family farm near Union Mills, Iowa to Arthur and Gertie Hasselmann DeBoef. He was raised on the family farm and attended rural school. He also attended the former Clutchin College in Oskaloosa. He served with the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. On February 20, 1951, he was married to Marie Elrod in Prairie City, Iowa. The couple lived near New Sharon and Prairie City, where they operated a grain and livestock farm. He also was in the banking business in Prairie City and Freeborn, Minnesota. Following his retirement he worked in the hardware business in Albert Lea. Mr. and Mrs. DeBoef moved to Grinnell, Iowa in June of 2002. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Grinnell and the Calvary Baptist Church, while living in Albert Lea. He was past president of the Lions Club in Prairie City and a member of the Jasper County Banker's Association and the Farmer's Co-op Board in Prairie City. Survivors include his wife, Marie DeBoef of Grinnell; one daughter, Lee Plisch of Grinnell; three sons, Wayne DeBoef of Buffalo, MN, Dan DeBoef of Mitchellville and Jim DeBoef of St. Ansgar, Iowa; ten grandchildren; and two brothers, Floyd DeBoef of Madisonville, TN and Gene DeBoef of Punta Gorda, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Michael DeBoef.
