Makayla Rae Dusenbery

Makayla Rae Dusenbery, 2, of Washington died Saturday, August 9, 2003 at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City following a sudden illness.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Thursday, August 14, 2003 at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Boyd officiating. Interment will take place in the Sandy Hook Cemetery in rural Washington. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon on Wednesday with the family present from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Wednesday evening. A general memorial has been established in memory of Makayla.

Makayla was born July 6, 2001 in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Aaron Gene Richardson and Kassi Kay Dusenbery.

She enjoyed running after bunnies, playing in her swimming pool, riding her Harley - Davidson motorcycle, feeding her pet bird "Tweety" and her fish, playing hide and seek, squirt guns, teasing family members, playing in the park and shopping. Makayla had a love of shoes.

She is survived by her mother; Kassi Kay Dusenbery of Washington, her father; Aaron Richardson of Washington, maternal grandmother; Tammy Drayfahl of Washington, maternal grandfather; Jim Drayfahl of Ainsworth, paternal grandparents; Daryl & Julie Richardson of Washington; great grandparents; Sharon Latcham of Washington, Jim & Loris Drayfahl of Ainsworth, James & Jean Dunbar of Washington and Harold "Bud" & Peggy Hagans Lockridge. Makayla is also survived by four aunts and uncles: Staci Bright of Columbus Junction, Joshua Dusenbery of Washington, Jami Drayfahl of Washington and Matthew Richardson of Washington. There are several great aunts, uncles, and cousins also surviving.

She was preceded in death by her great grandfather; Ward Latcham, Daryl Dean "Tiny" Richardson and 1 uncle; Jason Richardson.

Ellen Fenn

Ellen Rebecca Fenn, 94, of Washington died Friday, August 1, 2003 at the Halcyon House Health Care Center in Washington.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home in Washington with the Pastor Brett Best officiating. Interment will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 12:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM prior to services on Tuesday. A General Memorial has been established in memory of Ellen.

Ellen was born December 15, 1908 in Henry County, Iowa the daughter of Jesse and Sarah (Peterson) Mills. Mrs. Fenn was reared in the Quaker Faith. She received her Normal Training Teacher's Certificate in Mount Pleasant, Iowa High School and taught country school prior to her marriage. On December 3, 1929 she married Prior L. Fenn in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. She and her husband lived in Keokuk for three years before settling in Washington in early 1933. In 1945 she and her husband opened the Massey-Harris farm machinery business in Washington and together they operated the business until 1962 when they sold the business to their two sons. In 1965 she and her husband moved to a farm East of Washington. She was a free lance writer and photographer. Her first book of poetry - "A Star Rushed By" was published in 1963. Photos from her dark room coupled with her ease of words gained her national attention. She was a charter member of the Iowa City Branch of the American League of American Pen Women and a charter member of the local group of poetry writers "The Word Weavers." She was also a member of the Log Cabin Questers #455 of Washington County. She served as a columnist for three years for the Iowa Retail Equipment Associations monthly period publication. Mrs. Fenn held membership in served as State President of Composers and Authors of America; a chapter president of Iowa City Branch of American Pen Women; and president of the local Word Weavers. She was included in the London "Two Thousand Women of Achievement" in 1972. In 1974 she published the book "Cooking With Ellen" and Cornbread and Calico in 1978. She was a member of the American Society of Writers in 1981. More than 200 publications have used words from her pen and photos from her camera.

She is survived by 1 son; Kenneth Fenn of Washington, Iowa, 1 daughter; Marolyn Schumacher of Beloit, Wisconsin, 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 1 brother; Gilbert Mills of Washington and many nieces and nephews.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1985, 1 son; Terry, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

Adam Gartner

Adam John Gartner, 49, of Washington died suddenly following a decline in health for the past few years on Saturday, September 6, 2003 at his residence.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 9, 2003 at Louis & Sandra Wilson's residence; 1616 Sixth Avenue North in Wellman, Iowa. Condolences may be sent to Peggy Gartner at 317 North Iowa Avenue in Washington.

Adam was born October 16, 1956 in Omaha, Nebraska the son of John and Joann (Johnson) Gartner. He was raised and attended school in Omaha, Nebraska. On April 7, 1990 he married Peggy Wilson in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Adam and Peggy lived in Council Bluffs, Arizona and later West Branch before moving to Washington. He was employed as an orderly at nursing homes and care facilities in many communities. Adam enjoyed arts and crafts, he had a love of animals and was loved by his family.

Mr. Gartner is survived by his wife; Peggy Gartner of Washington, Iowa, father; John Gartner of Lexington, Nebraska, 2 brothers, mother and father in law; Louis and Sandra Wilson of Wellman, Iowa and sister in law Ann Smith.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Charles R. "Chuck" Gibson

Chuck R. Gibson, age 74, of Washington, passed away Friday July 25, 2003 following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 25, 2003 at the United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Richard Boyd officiating. Visitation will begin 9:00 AM Monday at the Jones Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive freinds from 2:00 - 3:30 and from 6:30 - 8:30 on Monday. Interment with military honors will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa.

Chuck was born on July 24, 1929 in Keosauqua, Iowa to Roy N. and Mildred (White) Gibson. He graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1947. He served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. On December 22, 1957 he was united in marriage to Janice Ann Statler at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife Janice of Washington, IA; Son Richard P. Gibson and wife Elisabeth of Knoxville, IA and their children Maggie and Grace; Daughter Teri Copler and husband Steve of Vinton, IA and their son Ryan; Son Russell Gibson and wife Andrea of Hampton, IA and their children Elias and Kian; mother-in-law Mildred Statler of West Chester, IA; 3 sister-in-laws and 2 brother-in-laws. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, 4 siblings - Richard Nolan Gibson, Thelma VanDyke, Glenn Gibson, and Betty Griffiths and father-in-law - L.P. "Mutt" Statler.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Kiwanis AM'ers, Lending Hands, or Community Senior Center.

Maxine R. Goodin

Maxine R. Goodin, 83, of Cumming, Georgia formerly of Washington, Iowa died Sunday, July 27, 2003 in Cumming, Georgia.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, August 1, 2003 at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington with the Rev. Richard Boyd officiating.

Maxine is survived by 4 children; Clyta Norton of Cumming, GA, Robert Goodin of Bondurant, IA, Janet Cook of Howard, CO and Jeanette Chappel of Howard, CO, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; Chester Goodin.

Florence Laurene Knapp

Florence Laurene Knapp, age 89, of Washington, passed away Friday - July 25, 2003 at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington following a lengthy illness. Funeral Services will be held Monday July 28, 2003 at the Jones Eden Funeral Home in Washington with the Rev. Richard Boyd officiating. Visitation will begin at 3:00 PM Sunday at the Jones Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:00 - 6:00 PM. Burial will take place at the South English Cemetery in South English, Iowa. A general memorial has been established.

Laurene was born on June 13, 1014 in South English, Iowa to John Roy and Mary Isabelle (Campbell) Knapp. She attended high school in Des Moines, Iowa graduating in 1932. She later attended Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines, Iowa.

Laurene is survived by a sister - Euncie Jung of Charles City, IA and a brother - Robert Whitsitt of Rockford, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters - Leona Bailey and Lota Knapp.

She worked as a Secretary for the Iowa State Health Department for 42 years until her retirement in 1980. She received the Henry Albert Memorial Award for recognition of outstanding service in Public Health in 1971.

Laurene was a member of the First Christian Church where she was active in the Christian Women's Fellowship.

Conrad Daniel Luers

Conrad Daniel Luers, 4, of Sharpsville, Indiana died Sunday, August 3, 2003 at his home in Sharpsville following a two and a half year battle with cancer.

Private family services will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2003 at the Stout & Son Funeral Home in Russiaville, Indiana with the Rev. Jeff Harlow & the Rev. Bob Patterson officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Private family committal services will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2003 at the Oak Ridge Cemetery in rural Washington, Iowa. The Jones - Eden Funeral Home in Washington is assisting with the local arrangements. Memorials in memory of Conrad have been established to the St. Vincents Children Center or to the Give Kids The World Association.

Conrad is survived by his parents; Daniel J. and April C. (Crowley) Luers of Sharpsville, IN, paternal grandparents; R. Dean & Rose Mary Luers of Brighton, Iowa, maternal grandparents; Coy "Pete" & Judy Crowley of Nashport, OH, several aunts, uncles and cousins, and his best friend; his dog, Eli.

Conrad fought a courageous battle with cancer for over two and half years. Leaving behind a family filled with love and wonderful memories, of his short life here on earth.

Dwight Murray

Dwight S. Murray, age 80, of Washington died Monday - July 28, 2003 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Washington with the Pastor Brett Best officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM on Thursday July 31st and from 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM on Friday August 1st. There will be a Masonic Lodge service at the Jones Eden Funeral Home at 6:30 Friday evening at the Jones Eden Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 8:30 Friday Evening. Interment with military honors will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established to the Masonic Lodge #26 or the First Baptist Church.

Dwight was born April 2, 1923 in Dundee, Iowa to James S. and Bessie (Mason) Murray. He was raised and educated in Lamont, Iowa. During World War II he served in the United States Army taking part in the liberation of the Philippines on Luzon Island.

We worked for the Maintenance Department of the Highway Commission as an assistant maintenance engineer from 1966 until his retirement in 1985.

Dwight was active in Masonry having served as head of all Washington Masonic Bodies, Eastern Star and White Shrine. He was a Shriner. He served as secretary of Washington Lodge # 26 for thrity two years beginning in 1968 - 1997.

Survivors include his wife Emma of Washington, IA; Son Stanley D. Murray and wife Deborah of Washington, IA; Step daughter Betty Shelton & husband Don of Creston, IA; Stepson Merle & wife Charlotte of El Paso, TX; Step daughter Berdena Hiatt & husband James of Des Moines, IA; Stepson James Bonebright & wife Cheryl of Danville, IL; Step daughter Linda Witthoft and husband James of Ainsworth, IA; 2 grandchildren; 21 step grandchildren; many step great grandchildren; sister Arlene Phillips of Delhi, IA; and Sister Berna Deane Benton & husband Harold of Oelwein, Iowa.

Thomas D. Plake

Thomas D. Plake, 52, of Washington died on Friday, August 29, 2003 at his residence in Washington following a sudden illness.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Carpenter officiating. A General Memorial Fund has been established in memory of Thomas.

Thomas D. Plake was born August 29, 2003 in Los Angeles, California the son of John Arthur Clinton and Natalie (Duncan) Plake. He grew up in Los Angeles where he graduated from high school. Thomas attended college at California State in Northridge, California. He was a resident of Washington, Iowa for the past 8 years. He was employed by Wilcox - Garland for a short period of time.

Mr. Plake is survived by 1 sister; Alicia King of Denver, North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Merle Dale Warner

Merle Dale "Fizz" Warner, 86, of Washington died Thursday, August 27, 2003 at the M.L. McCreedy Home in Washington following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, August 30, 2003 at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Hodson officiating. Interment with Military Honors will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 12:00 PM Friday at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home where the family will be present to receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. A Masonic Lodge Service will be held at 6:30 PM Friday evening at the funeral home. A memorial in memory of Merle has been established to the Shriners Children's Hospital.

Merle was born April 16, 1917 in Washington, Iowa the son of Rene and Dessi (Work) Warner. He graduated from Washington High School in 1936.

On December 24, 1940 he married Lucille Lance in Washington, Iowa.

Merle served in the Army Air Force during World War II as an airplane mechanic. Prior to his military service, Merle owned and operated a service station in the south end of Washington. After his time in the service, he began farming and farmed northeast of Washington all of his life.

He was active in 4-H as a member and as a leader for many years. Merle served on the Washington on the Washington County Fair Board for many years and recently received the distinction of Honorary Board Member. He became active an active member of the Masonic Lodge # 26 and Masonic Bodies in 1956. Merle belonged to the Scottish Rite and York Rite, KAABA Shrine, Washington County Shrine Club and the Louisa County Shrine Club. Merle was a member of the Hardees Evening Coffee Group, The Washington Saddle Club and was a volunteer in the Horse Department at the Midwest Old Threshers in Mt. Pleasant for many years.

Rylie Paige York

Rylie P. York age 5 months, infant daughter of Jared York and Rachel Schevers died Wednesday August 27, 2003 at the University of Iowa Hospital. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday - September 2, 2003 at the Jones Eden Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron McMenamin officiating. Visitation will begin noon Monday at the Jones Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:00 - 6:00 PM Monday Evening. Interment will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery. A general memorial has been established.

Rylie Paige York was born March 2, 2003 in Iowa City. She is survived by her mother Rachel Schevers of Washington, IA; father Jared York of Washington, IA; Twin Brother Kase York; Grandmother Amy Boileau Stoutner of Washington; Grandfather Kenny Stoutner of Keota; Grandfather Terry York of Washington; and Grandmother Tammy Luscardi of Nevada. Rylie is also survived by many great grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a grandfather - Douglas Schevers.

Helen B. (Payne) Gray

Helen B. (Payne) Gray, age 91, of Washington Iowa died Saturday, September 11, 2004 at the Parkview Home in Wayland following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday at the Jones – Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Rev. Julia Poulsen officiating. Interment will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will begin after 12:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A memorial in memory of Helen has been established to the United Methodist Church in Washington or to Hospice of Washington County.

Helen B. Gray was born on December 25, 1912 in Washington, Iowa the daughter of Harry H. and Maude May (Messer) Payne. She attended school in Washington, Iowa. In 1955 Helen married Lloyd A. Gray in Henderson, Kentucky. For over 30 years Helen worked for Montgomery Ward where she was the manager of the shoe department and received a Top Salesperson Award. Helen was a lifelong resident of Washington County. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washington, United Methodist Church in Brighton, and TTT. She loved all of her famiy. Helen enjoyed her home, flowers, gardening and cooking.

Helen is survived by 2 daughters, Karla (Benell) Kennedy and husband Ed of Des Moines, Iowa; Joanne (Benell) Wagener of Tucus, Arizona; 12 grandchildren, and daughter-in-law, Frances Benell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd A. Gray; and 1 son, Paul Benell Jr. and stepson Doyle Gray

Marion C. Davis

Marion Collins Davis, age 71, of Washington died suddenly at his home Wednesday morning.

Celebration of life services will be held at the United Methodist Church Sunday, October 3, 2004. Friends may call at the Jones Eden Funeral Home from noon Saturday until 9:00 pm and after 12:30 Sunday at the United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 Saturday at the Jones Eden Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington at later date. A memorial has been established for the Community Y.

Marion was born January 10, 1933 in Shenandoah, Iowa the son of Jessa Collins and Maude Eva (Latta) Davis. He married his high school sweetheart Marilyn Jean Blackburn November 6, 1955 in Shenandoah. He graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1953. He then received his Bachelor of Science degree in education form Central State University in Missouri. Marion served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his Wife Marilyn of Washington, IA; one son Jeffrey C. Davis and wife Jeannette of LeMars, IA; two daughters Teresa K. Hazelett & husband John of Ainsworth, IA; and Kimberly J. Wood & husband Mark of Washington, IA. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; one great grandson; one brother J. Gerald “Buzz” and wife Gordene Davis of Elk Grove, Ca and one sister Clemma Mae and husband Harold Ridge of Roy, UT survives. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Doris Belle Kimmerling and Anna Lee Thompson.

Marion was an industrial arts teacher in the Highland Community School District from 1967 until his retirement in 1990. He also coached several different sports for many years at Highland. He earlier taught industrial arts in Monroe, Iowa from 1960 until 1967. He taught drivers education for 20 years in several surrounding communities.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the National Education Association and Highland Education Association. He was a member the Washington Community Y and a member of Woodcarvers Association. Marion was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and master woodcarver. He enjoyed playing pool at the Y. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and spending time with them.

Dale "Doggie" Doggett

Dale “Doggie” Emory Doggett, age 75, of Washington died Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at his residence in Washington, Iowa. He had been in failing health the past three months.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday at the Jones Eden Funeral Home in Washington with the Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Interment will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin noon Wednesday at the Jones- Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday. Masonic Lodge services will be held 6 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to the Hospice of Washington County or Shrine Children’s Hospital.

Dale Emory Doggett was born March 21, 1929 in Beacon, Iowa the son of Harold and Carolyn (Johns) Doggett. Dale graduated from Oskaloosa High School in Oskaloosa, Iowa in 1947.. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Jeanne Garrett on October 26, 1947 in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Dale was Vice President and Treasurer at Perdock Inc. for 35 years until his retirement in 1987. He was previously employed at Willits Motors in Washington, Iowa and worked as the Western Union Manager. He was a member of the First Christian Church where he served as a Deacon, an Elder and Board Chairman. Dale was Past Master of Washington Masonic Lodge # 26, Yorkrite Bodies, 32 degree Mason, KAABA Shrine, Past Secretary and President of the Washington County Shrine Club, Past Local Jaycee President and State Vice President, past City Councilman. Dale was honored by receiving the Jaycee Distinguished Service Award.

Dale is survived by his wife Phyllis of Washington, Iowa; Daughter Deborah Kilbourn and husband Randall of Washington, Iowa; Linda Dougall and husband Denny of Washington, Iowa; Son Fred Doggett and wife Cheri of Washington, Iowa; 3 grandchildren; 2 great granddaughters; and a brother Jerry Doggett of Tacoma, Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Joyce Shields and infant one brother Donny Doggett.

Derald F. Edwards

Derald Fredrick Edwards, age 82, of Wayland, Iowa died at his home Wednesday morning following a brief illness. He was born July 13, 1922 north of Coppock, Iowa the son of Fred and Jessie (Carpenter) Edwards. He married Yvonne "Bonnie" Ericks March 10, 1946 in Hoisington, Kansas.

Derald is survived by his wife, Bonnie of Wayland, Iowa; two sons, Michael and wife Linda Edwards of Wayland, Iowa; William (Bill) and wife Jeannie Edwards of Wayland, Iowa; one daughter Cynthia and husband Ed Meredith of Lancaster, Kentucky, nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and three step grandchildren, sister, Etherl Hanze of Fairfield, Iowa; and Sister-in-law, Jean Edwards of Millersburg, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Edith Widmer; brother, Raymond Edwards; two nephews and one step great grandchild.

Derald attended the Franklin Country School near his home. He joined the Army Air Corp and is a veteran of WW 2 serving with the 28th Bombardment Squadron for four years and was in the Pacific Theater for one year. He was a lifetime member of the VFW.

Derald lived on the home farm until 1974 at which time he moved to Wayland, Iowa. He was engaged with farming until 1973 and then worked 11 years as a forman at Perfex in Washington before retiring and taking up the hobby of woodworking. He also enjoyed fishing and boating.

Burial will be in the Cottonwood Cemetery with Military Honors.

Memorials in memory of Derald have been established for Hospice of Washington County, Cottonwood Church or Wayland First Responders.

Alexia Lynn Langstraat

Alexia Lynn Langstraat, infant daughter of Ryan and Angela Langstraat of Washington was stillborn Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

Private family graveside services will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington with the Rev. Harold Schutte officiating. The family will receive friends for a time of gathering and visitation from 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM Monday, October 4, 2004 at the Jones – Eden Funeral Home in Washington. A memorial fund has been established for Touching Hearts through the University of Iowa.

Alexia Lynn Langstraat is survived by her parents, Ryan & Angela Langstraat of Washington, Iowa; maternal grandparents, Roger & Sandy Busa of Lone Tree, Iowa; paternal grandparents, Dan & Vic Langstraat of Washington, Iowa; two uncles, Brad Langstraat of Washington, Iowa; Brian Busa of Riverside, Iowa; great grandparents, Dixie Reese of Huntsville, Arkansas; Wilma Braden of New Sharon, Iowa; Maggie & Bob Fuerst of Grinnel, Iowa; and Richard & Bev Langstraat of Agency, Iowa.

Robert L. Marek

Robert L. Marek, age 75, of Washington died suddenly Thursday, September 2, 2004 at Washington County Hospital in Washington.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Monday, September 6, 2004 at St. James Catholic Church in Washington with Father Edward O’Meila officiating. Visitation will be begin after 10:00 AM Sunday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Sunday. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM Sunday at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home. Burial will take place in St. Vincent’s Cemetery in Riverside, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to diabetes or heart research.

Robert Lee Marek, age 75, of Washington was born February 9, 1929 in Washington County the son of Charles A and Vera S. (Shalla) Marek. He attended rural school and was a 1947 graduate of Washington High School. Robert was united in marriage to Mary E. Ruth September 12, 1950 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside, Iowa. Mr. Marek is survived by his wife Mary E. Marek of Washington, Iowa and six children; Patricia Greubel of Knoxville, Iowa; James & wife Mary Marek of Kalona, Iowa; Fran and husband Roger McVeigh of Unionville, Iowa; Drs. Gerard Marek and wife Young Lim Lee of Indianapolis, Indiana; Sherry Marek and husband Sudharshan Chary of Weston, Florida; and Wayne and wife Amy Marek of Johnston, Iowa; 14 grandchildren, Josh and wife Amanda Greubel, Joseph and wife Ashley Greubel, Jessica Greubel, Cody Marek, Evan McVeigh, Stephanie Marek, Courtney and Andy Carrico, Neel Chary, Jay Chary, Peter Marek, Hanna Marek and Dev Chary. Also surviving are three great grandchildren,; Alexis Greubel, Michael James Greubel and Adrien Pounds. Robert has one brother, Dale and wife Janelle Marek of Kalona, Iowa; brothers-in-law and sisters-in law Bob and Dorris Ruth of Alamo, Texas; Rita and Joe Jenn of Riverside, Iowa; Eleanor and Walter Droll of Stanwood, Iowa; Leo and Phyllis Ruth of Davenport, Iowa; Gene and Doris Ruth of Riverside, Iowa; Marie Ruth of Kalona, Iowa and Emily Young of Oxford, Iowa. There are 50 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Joseph Marek in 1959; grandson, John McVeigh; three brothers-in-law, Richard, Paul and Don Ruth; and a sister-in-law Beverly Ruth and a great granddaughter, Brittany Greubel.

Mr. Marek served in the United States Army in Japan during the Korean Conflict. He was a farmer and worked for the Department of Agriculture. He was member of St. James Catholic Church in Washington and was a 4th Degree honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Grothe Assembly and the American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards and mowing his yard.
