WILLIAMSBURG: Larry Allen Caskey was born November 30, 1948, in Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of Norman & Phyllis Caskey. He graduated in 1967 from Williamsburg High School and attended electronics school in Des Moines. Larry lived in the Houston, Texas area for 8 years before returning to Williamsburg. He was united in marriage to Sherry Keller on May 5, 1979 in Williamsburg. Larry worked with Business Control Systems in Cedar Rapids for 23 years. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his wife and three sons. Larry died on Sunday, October 12, 2003 at University Hospital in Iowa City after a courageous battle with Leukemia at the age of 54 years. Surviving are his wife Sherry; three sons: Benjamin Larry Caskey and wife Meredith of Iowa City - Jeffery Lewis Caskey and Brian Charles Caskey both attending Simpson College in Indianola; an expected grandchild in December 2003; his parents Norman & Phyllis Caskey of Williamsburg; his father in - law and mother in - law, Charles and Ann Keller of Cedar Rapids; a brother Ken Caskey of Williamsburg; three sisters: Barb Landuyt and husband Art of Williamsburg - Jeanette Himmelsbach and husband Allen of Marengo - Sherry Pope and husband Mike of Williamsburg. Larry was preceded in death by his grandparents: Alvin and Erma Mumm and Roy and Mable Caskey. Celebration of life service is set for 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Williamsburg with Rev. John Sauser and Rev. Susen LaBlanc officiating. Burial is in the Pilot Grove cemetery . Visitation is at the Uhlmann Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg, on Tuesday, October 14 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, a general memorial fund has been established.

Seth Andrew Bailey was born August 16, 1978 in Iowa City, Iowa the beloved son of Thomas and Jacqueline Hill Bailey. He graduated from Iowa Mennonite School rural Kalona Iowa in 1997 and attended Iowa State and University of Iowa. Seth lived in rural Riverside. He was an avid sports fan, and loved being with his family and friends. As a young boy Seth loved farming with his dad. He had a special fondness for animals. Seth was training in hopes of competing in the Paralympic Games as a Swimmer. He was proud of his work at the U.S. Olympic Committee in the summer of 2002 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Seth was a member of the East Union Mennonite Church. Seth died on Friday, October 3, 2003 at the age of 25 at home in Riverside surrounded by his loving family and fiancé after a courageous and lengthy battle of cancer. Seth is survived by his parents: Tom and Jackie Bailey of Riverside, Iowa; his fiancé Sarah Arens of Remsen, Iowa: a sister Kara Groenewold and husband Steve of Riverside, Iowa; 2 brothers: Josh Bailey and wife Barbara of Colorado Springs, Colorade, Jace Bailey and fiancé Kendra Conrad of Harrisonburg, Virginia; a nephew Cade Groenewold of Riverside, Iowa; his paternal grandmother Fern Bailey of Kalona, Iowa; and maternal grandparents Idres and Florence Hill of Stanhope, Iowa; numerous Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. Seth was preceded by his paternal grandfather Paul Bailey; his beloved dog Cassie.
A General Memorial fund has been established.

Bell, Dale

WILLIAMSBURG - Dale Milton Bell was born May 11, 1917, in Wellman, Iowa, the son of Virgil and Martha (Mattie) Coover Bell. He graduated from North English High School. Dale was united in marriage to Harriet Morse on November 28, 1940 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She died on September 1, 1977. Dale married Lucille Hudepohl Madoerin on December 22, 1978 at their home near Williamsburg. Dale lived in the North English area for 48 years before moving near Williamsburg in 1978. He was a member of the First Christian Church in North English and now attended Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. Dale was a veteran of WW 2, having served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater and was awarded 3 Bronze Stars. He was a member of the Iburg PoulsonV.F.W. post #8797 of Williamsburg and the North English Fire Department. He hauled cream for the North English Creamery for a number of years and then he worked for Iowa county Farm Services for 34 years. When he retired, Dale made brooms for Schanz Broom and Basket Shop, hauled grain for J & S Farm Supply and really enjoyed taking tickets at the Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball games, with Per Mar Security, for 22 years. He also served at the election polls. Dale enjoyed coffee with the guys at the Landmark and playing Sheepshead card games. Dale died on Thursday, October 2, 2003 at Colonial Manor in Amana with complications of cancer at the age of 86 years. Dale will be greatly missed by his family, neighbors and friends. He is survived by his wife Lucille; a son Larry Bell and wife Peg of West Des Moines; a step son Duane Madoerin and wife Diane of Urbandale; a step daughter Carol Madoerin and husband Ross Henderson of Kenmore, Washington; five grandchildren: Carrie Smith and husband Tom of Glenn Ellyn, Illinois - Curtis Bell and Wife Nancy of West Des Moines - Jason Bell and wife Debbie of Lombard, Illinois - Tony Bell of Glendale, California and Andrew Bell of Muncie, Indiana; four step grandchildren: Tonya Madoerin Franken and husband Bruce of Leawood, Kansas - Jason Madoerin and wife Bonnie of Eagan, Minnesota - Brent and Sarah Madoerin Henderson of Kenmore, Washington; six great grandchildren and five step great grandchildren. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Harriet, a son Rick Bell, a brother Albert Bell and three sisters: Eva, Mrs. Fred Ahrens - Margaret, Mrs. Ora Enfield and Helen, Mrs. Robert Kephart. Celebration of Life Services are set for 10:00 am on Monday, October 6, 2003 at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg with Rev. Richard Meyer officiating. Burial is in the North English cemetery with Military Honors by the Iburg Poulson V.F.W post #8797. Visitation is at the Uhlmann - Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg on Sunday, October 5, 2003 from 3:00 - 8:00 pm with a V.F.W. Service at 7:00 pm. Memorials are for the American Diabetes Association or Lutheran Interparish School in Williamsburg.

Mardelle A. Miller was born February 19, 1914 in Wellman, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Fanny (Wade) Crossett. She graduated from Wellman High School in 1932. On August 27, 1932 she was united in marriage to Jay J. Miller in Wellman. They lived in Wellman until moving to Kalona in 1978. She worked for Maplecrest and Welkona for many years. She also was a rural mail carrier during WWII and later was a cook at the Wellman High School. In 1987 they moved to Davenport. They returned to Wellman in 1996. Mardelle was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wellman. Mardelle died on Saturday, February 14, 2004 at Parkview Manor in Wellman following a brief illness at the age of 89 years old. Mardelle is survived by a daughter - Wanda McCartney and husband Max of Davenport; 3 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and 3 sisters - in - law Doris Crossett of Washington; Marjorie Crossett of Wellman; and Marie Geiger of Coralville. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jay in October of 1996; a son Virgil; 3 sisters and 5 brothers.
A memorial fund has been established for the First Baptist Church.

SIGOURNEY - Marvin Hahn, age 67, of Sigourney, died Friday, February 13, 2004, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a stroke. Marvin was born July 15, 1936, in South English, to Byron and Dorothy (Hervey) Hahn. He grew up in South English and graduated from North English High School in 1954. Following high school Marvin moved to Sigourney. He served in the National Guard and on January 25, 1972, he married Joyce Gilliland in Lancaster, Missouri. Marvin worked in many capacities, including a mechanic, farmer and truck driver. He was a member of the Sigourney Christian Church and the Keokuk County Expo Board and enjoyed square dancing, karaoke, sports, gardening, pets, family get togethers and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife: Joyce of Sigourney; daughter: Carol Elliott and husband Marc of Ottumwa; son: Dean Hahn and wife Jenny of South English; five grandchildren: Jordan, Caelan, Micaela, Zane and Zoe and three sisters: Marie, Mrs. Mel Snakenberg of Sigourney, Mary Ann, Mrs. Lloyd Trimpe of South Amana and Linda Gilliland of Sigourney. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Wayne and Earl. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2004, at the Sigourney Christian Church with Rev. Jim Bringman and Rev. Frances Baumert officiating. Private interment in the South English cemetery will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2004, at the Reynolds - Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney, where the family will be present from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A general memorial fund has been established. Reynolds - Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service in Sigourney is handling the arrangements.

Harry A. Smith was born on August 9, 1909 in Chicago, IL, a son of Harry and Elizabeth Brown Smith. He was united in marriage to Violet Strausser of North English, on June 23, 1934 in Chicago. They made their home in Cedar Rapids, IA before retiring in Hemet, CA. Harry worked as a manager at Amana Refrigeration. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hemet. Harry has lived the past 6 years at the home of his daughter in Las Vegas, NV. He died there following a long illness on Thursday, February 12, 2004 at the age of 94 years, 6 months and 3 days. He is survived by four children: Roselee Busolo of Las Vegas, NV; Robert Smith of St. Louis, MO; Randy Smith of Cedar Rapids, IA; Reggie Smith of Los Angeles, CA; 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Harry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Violet in February 1990. Funeral services will be held at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English, IA, on Monday, February 16, 2004 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Robert Shaffer officiating. Burial will follow in the North English cemetery . Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM.

Williamsburg - Laverne Linda Leona Collingwood was born September 4, 1923 in Iowa County, Iowa near Williamsburg, the daughter of Louis H. and Martha Newkirk Iburg. She was baptized And confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Laverne attended rural school in Troy township and attended St. Paul Lutheran School. She was united in marriage to Cecil L. Collingwood on April 15, 1941 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Laverne worked at Amana Refrigeration for 27 years retiring in the early 80's. She lived in the Iowa County area most all of her life until 1999 when she became a resident of Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook, Iowa. Laverne was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church. She died Friday, February 6, 2004 at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook after a short illness at the age of 80 years. She is survived by two daughters: Ethel (David) Voigt of Spring, Texas and Dianne (Billy) Hotchkiss of Huxley, Iowa; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; two brothers: Louis (Leora) Iburg of Center, Missouri and Everett (Joan) Iburg of Victor; three sisters: Hilda Von Weihe of Amana, Erna (David) Davies and Florine Rowe all of Williamsburg. Laverne was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1999, two sisters: Irene in 1933 and Florence in 1934 and a brother Gilbert in 1935. A Celebration of Life Service will be Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Rev Carl Cloeter will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran cemetery . Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Uhlmann - Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Memorial are for St. Paul Lutheran Church or Lutheran Interparish School in Williamsburg. Organist is Karin Winwood Congregational Hymns are 'Abide with Me', 'My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less' and 'Nearer My God to Thee'.

Willard L. Christner was born August 28, 1925 in Johnson County near Kalona, Iowa, the son of Gideon A. and Hester Hochstedler Christner. He attended rural Hickory Grove Elementary and Center High School. Willard served in CPS for 2 years. He was a self employed welder and very inventive., He also had worked in the maintenance department at Yoder Feeds for 8 years before retiring in 1991. Willard was a member of the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church. He was outdoorsman and an expert hunter and trapper. He had become accomplished on the computer and Internet use after receiving a computer on his 70th birthday. Willard died on Friday, February 6, 2004 at Parkview Manor in Wellman at the, after a lengthy illness, age of 78 years. Willard is survived by three sisters: Jean Kauffman and husband Jacob of Kalona - Ada Hershberger of Ontario, Canada - Ann Hoogenboom and husband Richard of Goshen, Indiana; a brother, James Christner and wife Darlene of Elkhart, Indiana: eighteen nieces and nephews, twenty nine grand nieces and nephews and 9 great grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother in law, Burette Hershberger and a nephew Jeffrey Kauffman. The Yoder - Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is in charge of arrangements. Funeral services are set for 10:30 am Monday, February 9, 2004 at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church with Rev. Don Patterson officiating. Burial is in the Upper Deer Creek cemetery . Visitation will be at the Yoder - Powell Funeral Home in Kalona on Sunday from 3:00 - 8:00 pm with the family present from 3:00 - 5:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 pm. It was Willard's wish that a memorial fund be given to the Iowa Mennonite School Building Fund.

Lorraine Wedlund, age 63, died of cancer on Thursday, February 5, 2004 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital in Marengo. Funeral services will be held at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English on Monday, February 9, 2004 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Edwin Jordan officiating. Burial will be in the South English cemetery . Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until service time Monday at the funeral home. She is survived by 3 daughters: Selena Perez (Steven) of Watkins, IA; Holly Stecklein of North English, IA; Lisa Harman of Santa Cruz CA; a brother Floyd Howington of Pounding Mill, VA; and a sister Marie Harman of Keswick, IA. 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents and 4 brothers. Lorraine was born on September 22, 1940 in Russell County, Virginia, a daughter of Conway and Nytoklasmelvinie (Tokie) Castel Howington. She grew up in Virginia and traveled all over with her husband while he was in the service. She recently had made her home in the Cedar Rapids area, moving to North English three years ago. She was a loving mother and grandmother. A general memorial fund has been established.
