Oxford - Juanita May Walter was born May 7, 1922 in Newhall, Iowa, the daughter of George and Amelia Kerkman Schlotterbeck. She was baptized on June 4, 1922 and confirmed April 28, 1935 at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. G. Rickels. She graduated from Atkins High School. Juanita was united in marriage to Reno Walter, February 1, 1948 at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Atkins. Since their marriage the couple has lived on the farm near Oxford. Juanita enjoyed watching sports, gardening , working with flowers and doing crossword puzzles. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Juanita died Monday, February 2, 2004 at her home near Oxford after a short illness at the age of 81 years. She is survived by Reno her husband of 56 years; three sons: Kevin (Carol) Walter of Claremont, North Carolina, Duane (Jane) Walter of Swisher and Todd (Lori) Walter of Oxford; seven grandchildren: Jason (Cindy) Walter, Kris Walter, Dan Walter, Ryan Walter, Lisa Walter and fiancé Mark Davis, Jenny Walter and Kate Walter; two sisters: Erma Casper of Anamosa and Lavonne (Karl) Whiting of Marion. Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter Michelle Walter, two Brothers: Delmar and Edward Schlotterbeck, two sisters: Leona Annette and Eileen Johnson. Celebration of Life Service will be Thursday, February 5, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. in the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. Rev. Richard Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran cemetery . Visitation will be Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at the Uhlmann - Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Memorial are for Lutheran Interparish School or Immanuel Lutheran Church.

WELLMAN - Irene Ruby Taylor was born November 29, 1918 in Burr Oak, Kansas the daughter of Earl and Nora (Shaffer) Fringer. She moved to Chicago with her family and they later moved to Missouri. She graduated form Shelby High School in New Boston, Missouri. Irene worked in housekeeping at a nursing home and motel; she also worked at Whitaker Cable Co. For 10 years. On February 28, 1939 she married Albert Hane in New Boston, Missouri. He died in 1959. On January 17, 1981 she married Novie Taylor in Brookfield, Missouri. After Novie died in 1991, Irene moved to Wellman, Iowa. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wellman and the Dorcas Society. Irene died on Monday, February 2, 2004 at Parkview Manor in Wellman following a lengthy illness at the age of 85 years. Irene is survived by a daughter Alberta Walker of Wellman; 2 sons - Clifton Hane of Kansas City, Missouri; Allen Hane of Cave City, Kentucky; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands Albert Hane and Novie Taylor; and a step great granddaughter. Visitation will be held from 2 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Wellman followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Gene Carpenter officiating. A Graveside Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2004 at the Swedish Lutheran cemetery in Bucklin, Missouri. Rev. Mark Conyers will officiate. A Memorial fund has been established for the Wellman Senior Center and the First Baptist Church of Wellman. The Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Wellman is in charge of the arrangements.

Casady, Ida Marie

Ida Marie Casady was born on August 1, 1911 near Bladensburg, (Wapello County) IA, a daughter of Austin and Ida Maria Rebecca Williams Wymore. She graduated from Milton High School and attended business college in Ottumwa. She was united in marriage to Walter Casady on June 28, 1931 in Bloomfield, IA. They moved to North English in 1940. Marie worked as a bookkeeper and many years as a bank teller in North English. She later worked at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, retiring from there in 1972. She enjoyed playing cards. Walter preceded her in death in 1973. Marie became a resident of the English Valley Care Center in North English in May 1994. She died at the Care Center on Sunday, February 1, 2004 following a brief illness at the age of 92 years and 6 months. She is survived by a son Joel Ned Casady of Warsaw, IL; a daughter Rebecca Stanley of What Cheer, IA; 8 grandchildren: Bill Casady (Barb) of Columbia, MO, Debra Roskamp (Max) of Warsaw, IL, Paul Casady (Debra) of Warsaw, IL, Ariel Hieatt of Keokuk, IA, Sheila Montis of Waukee, IA, James Stanley (Lynda) of Clarksville, IA, Craig Stanley (Angie) of Oskaloosa, IA and Elaine Stanley of Pella, IA; 16 great grandchildren; and a sister Opal Mason of North English, IA. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Carl, Kenneth, Floyd and Herschel Wymore, and sister Louie McMickle Spears. Funeral services will be held at the Powell Funeral Home in North English on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Don Ridenour officiating. Burial will be in the North English cemetery . Visitation will be held from 10 A.M. Wednesday until service time.

Williamsburg - Myron Leroy Misbach was born May 7, 1912 in Sumner Township, Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Jesse Davis and Emelia Wiese Misbach. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1929 He farmed following graduation. Myron was united in marriage to Alice Theresa Hartin August 11, 1939 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Marengo. They lived on and farmed the Misbach family farm until 1975 when the retired and moved to Williamsburg. Myron was active in Farm Bureau, St. Patrick and St. Mary’s Catholic Churches. He enjoyed socializing with friends and neighbors and always enjoyed playing cards. Myron and Alice moved to the Walden Place in Iowa City in 1994, the Atrium Village in Hills in 2001 and to Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo in 2002. Myron died Sunday, February 1, 2004 at the Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo after a short illness at the age of 90 years, 8 months and 25 days. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by a daughter: Jovita (Darrell) Zuber of Marengo; a son: Greg (Gloria) Misbach of Filer, Idaho; a daughter - in - law: Barb Misbach Fiser of Cedar Rapids; eight Grandchildren: Bart (Mellissa) Zuber of Marengo, Fonda (Ray) Garringer and Blake ( Margie) Zuber all of Williamsburg, Faye (Josh) Swentkofske of Marion, Lyle (Andrea) Misbach of Kailwa - Kona, Hawaii, Neal Misbach of Nederland, Colorado, Kendra Misbach of Boise, Idaho and Doug ( Jennifer) Misbach of Holland, Ohio; nine great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren; three sisters: Ila Morse Smith of Iowa City, Mildred Posey of Hills and Shirley Buswell of Marengo. Myron was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alice September 2003, son Donald in 1969, a brother Wiese, two sisters: Dorothy Misbach and Wanda Edgerton, a great grandson Steven Esra Hilligas in 1994 and a grandson - in - law Scott Hilligas in 1995. Funeral Mass Of a Christian Burail will be Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at 10:00a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Fr. Joseph Roost will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic cemetery . Visitation will be Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at the Uhlmann - Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg from 3:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. where a prayer service at 6:00 p.m.. Memorials are for St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Marengo, St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Williamsburg or Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo.

Fern Luella Grimm was born on February 23, 1912 near Millersburg, IA, a daughter of Willis and Edna Hillman Shaull. She graduated from Millersburg High School in 1929. Fern was united in marriage to Arnold Ward Grimm on September 15, 1929, at the Ohio Parsonage near Ladora. They farmed in the Millersburg community before later moving into town. Fern was a member of the Millersburg United Methodist Church. She was one of the first cooks for the Millersburg Public School and she and Arnold owned and operated the Home Town Restaurant in Millersburg for a number of years. Fern enjoyed crocheting, cooking and sewing. She became a resident of the English Valley Care Center in North English in February 1999. Fern died following a brief illness at the English Valley Care Center on Thursday, January 29, 2004. She lived 91 years, 11 months and 6 days. She is survived by two daughters: Bonnie Schaffner (Richard) and Vonda Netser (companion Jack Baker) all of Millersburg, IA; a son Keith Grimm (Mary) of Marion, IA; 19 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; 16 great great grandchildren; and a sister Edna Carter of Luzerne, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in September 1992, a daughter Maxine Faas, 2 grandsons, 2 great grandsons, brothers Virgil (Jerry) and Alfred Shaull, and sisters Lela Schultz and Opal Gerard. Funeral services will be held at Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English, on Saturday, January 31, 2004 at with Pastor Don Ridenour officiating. Burial will be in the Millersburg cemetery . Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, January 30th from 5 PM until 8 PM.

Cranston, R. Deane

Williamsburg - R. Deane Cranston of Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab. Center in Coralville, formerly of Williamsburg, was born September 26, 1915 in Deep River, Iowa, the son of James and Lydia Doonan Cranston. He graduated from Deep River High School in 1932. Deane was united in marriage to Naomi Eileen Mohr on February 14, 1938 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed in the Deep River area until 1953, where he was also active in Auctioneering. Deane sold insurance with Farm Bureau for 2 years before moving to Williamsburg in 1955. In 1958 he went on his own and started Burg Insurance in Williamsburg, which he ran until his retirement. Deane was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg, Williamsburg Fire Department, Lions Club, Stellopolis Masonic Lodge, El Kahir Shrine, served on the Board of Directors for the Security Savings Bank and the Williamsburg Planning and Zoning. Deane died Monday, January 26, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after a short illness at the age of 88 years. He is survived by two Daughters: Sandra Hughes and husband Garth Kelting of Williamsburg and Diane Livingston and husband Tom of Iowa City; four grandchildren: Mitchell Hughes of Williamsburg, Dayna LaTorre and husband Dan of Lander, Wyoming, Douglas Livingston and wife Rachel of Excelsior, Minnesota and Robert Livingston of Chicago, Illinois; nine great grandchildren. Deane was preceded by his parents, his wife Naomi in 1996, three brothers: James, Cecil and Burdett and a sister Bonnibel and a son - in - law Robert Hughes. A Celebration of Life Service will be Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg. Rev. James Stewart will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill cemetery . Visitation will be Tuesday, January 27, 2004 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Uhlmann - Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg, with a Masonic Service held at 7:00p.m. Memorial are for the First Presbyterian Church or donors choice.

KEOTA - Lottie Baumert, age 92, of Keota, died following an extended illness Monday, January 26, 2004, at Maplewood Manor in Keota, where she had resided since August of 1997. Lottie was born April 9, 1911, near Keota, to Isaac and Ethel (Blair) Maule and graduated from Keota High School. On September 3, 1930, she married George W. Baumert at her parents’ home. The couple lived in Keokuk County and farmed northeast of Harper all their married lives. Lottie was a member of the United Methodist Church and a longtime member of the L.G.V. Club. She was an Avon representative for over 30 years and enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family. Survivors include one son: Earl and wife Wanda of Harper; two daughters: Pauline Morgan and husband Charles of Boulder City, Nevada and Bettie Baumert of Iowa City; seven grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: George in 1981; one brother: Floyd Maule and one sister: Vera Wodtke. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota with Pastor Sally Graves officiating. Interment will be at Keota cemetery . Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2004, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota. Memorials are preferred to the charity of your choice. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.

King was born July 16, 1928 near south English, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Gertrude Wallace King. He attended county school and graduated from Kinross High School in 1946. Norman was united in marriage to Shirley Boedeker on October 29, 1950 in Cedar Rapids. He has lived most of his life around the North English area and in 1980 moved to Wellman. Norman was a life long farmer and enjoyed coon hunting and fishing, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was a member of the English River Church of the Brethren near South English. Norman died Friday, January 23, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after a long illness at the age of 75 years. He is survived by his wife Shirley; 5 children: Diane Curley and husband Dennis of Oxford Junction, Iowa, Barbara Jones and husband Darrell of Norman, Oklahoma, Susan McClure and husband Don of Oskaloosa, Patty Fisher and husband Brian of South English and Bill King and wife Donna of Williamsburg; 10 grandchildren; 2 brothers: Gerald King of Cedar Rapids and Larry King of Arkansas; a sister: Jean of Loveland, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents. Celebration of life service will be Monday, January 26, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. in the English River Church of the Brethren near South English. Pastor Beth Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Brethren cemetery . Visitation will be Sunday, January 25, 2004 from 3:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home in North English.

Russell Ray Powers, age 82, died on Thursday, January 22, 2004 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City after a long illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, January 24, 2004 at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English with Pastor Don Ridenour officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Mt Zion cemetery near Millersburg, IA. A Memorial Fund has been established for Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo. Russell Ray Powers was born on December 20, 1921 near Millersburg, IA, a son of Ralph Russell and Lottie Mae Wyant Powers. He and his parents farmed in the South English, Webster and North English communities. His father died in 1974 and in 1976, he and his mother moved near Williamsburg. Russell enjoyed farming and later working at the shop near Williamsburg. His family and especially his nieces and nephew were very important to him. Russell became a resident of Hillside Estates in 1993 and has lived at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo the past three years. He is survived by a sister: Louise Wade and husband Arlyn of Williamsburg; several nieces and a nephew; and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother and sister, Claude and Betty Powers.

DENISON, LUCILLE S.
June 21, 1926 - January 21, 2004

Lucille Seaton Denison was born on June 21, 1926 on a farm west of North English, IA, a daughter of Ray R. (Dick) and Wanda M. Seaton Kelley. She attended country school and graduated from North English High School. She was united in marriage to George S. (Bud) Denison on October 1, 1945. They farmed in the Green Valley community near North English until moving into town in 1978. Lucille had been a member of the Champion Hill United Methodist Church and the UMW there. She loved to play cards, was an avid reader and enjoyed going to the casino. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting. George preceded her in death in December 2002. Lucille became a resident of the English Valley Care Center in North English in January 2004. She died there on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 following a brief illness. She lived 77 years and 7 months. She is survived by 5 children: David and wife Denise of North English, IA; Connie Costas and husband Jim of Muscatine, IA; Lyle of Parnell, IA; Louise Holden and special friend Frank Williams of North English, IA; and Lynn and wife Callie of North English; 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; sisters Helen Wilkerson and Lois Carter both of North English, IA; a son - in - law Michael Blank of Des Moines; a brother - in - law Glenn Greenlee of North English, sisters - in - law Martha Moffit of North English and Shirley Garringer of Parnell. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, daughters Kathy Denison and Karen Blank, her husband, and sisters Louise Kelly and Thelma Greenlee. Funeral services will be held at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English at 10:00 AM Friday, January 23, 2004 with Pastor Edwin Jordan officiating. Visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the North English cemetery . A general memorial fund has been established.

Ellis Borntrager was born Tuesday, June 30, 1942 in Kalona, Iowa, the son of Eli and Anna Miller Borntrager. He accepted Christ in his youth and was a faithful member of the Old Order Amish Church. Ellis lived in Jamesport, Missouri area from 1957 until returning to Kalona in 1973. He hand made leather suspenders and was a helping hand to many. Ellis died on Monday, January 19, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City of complications due to pneumonia at the age of 61 years, 6 months and 20 days. Ellis is survived by his father Eli of Kalona; 5 sisters: Dorothy, Mrs. Valentine Mast of Cantril, Iowa; Vera Borntrager of Kalona; Martha, Mrs. Eli Mast of Windsor, Missouri; Mary, Mrs. Paul T. Miller and Minerva, Mrs. S. Duane Miller all of Kalona; 34 nieces and nephews and 56 great nieces and nephews. Ellis was preceded in death by his mother Anna and his step mother Katie Borntrager on January 10, 2004.
