WINIFRED THOMAS

DEARBORN, Mich. - Winifred Thomas, 620 N. Nightingale, Dearborn, Mich., 48128, formerly of Mason City, Iowa, died on Friday (Aug. 27, 1999) at the Oakwood General Hospital, in Dearborn, Mich.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, Aug. 30, at the Divine Child Catholic Church in Dearborn.

Winifred, the daughter of William and Bess Connelly, was born in Bancroft, Iowa, on June 26, 1923. She graduated from St. John's Catholic High School in Bancroft and then attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City.

She was employed in Mason City until she married Walter Thomas at the Holy Family Catholic Church in 1946. They lived in Mason City until 1950, when Walter was transferred to the Armour and Company office in Dearborn, Mich.

Winifred (Winnie) was preceded in death by her parents; a twin brother, Louie, and one sister, Faye Ruzich.

She is survived by her husband, Walter; three sons, Walter Joe and his wife, Brenda, of Franklin, Tenn., Bob and his wife, Linda, of Austin, Texas, and Michael and his wife, Kim, of Dearborn, Mich. She also has two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

ALICE B. KINGSBURY

GARNER - Alice B. Kingsbury, 98, of Garner, formerly of Kimball, S.D., died Monday (Aug 30, 1999) at the Concord Care Center, Garner.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Presbyterian Church in Garner with the Rev. Daniel Bloesch officiating.

Friends of Alice Kingsbury and family are invited to attend a brief recognition service and lunch in memory of Alice at the First Presbyterian Church in Kimball on Sunday, Sept. 5, following the 10 a.m. service at the Kimball Protestant Parish Church. Interment of her cremains will be in the Kimball Cemetery.

Cataldo Funeral Home, Garner, is in charge of arrangements.

Alice Beatrice Kingsbury, the daughter of John and Jane (Clements) Wolbert, was born Oct. 5, 1900, on the farm her family homesteaded south of Kimball, S.D. She attended rural schools and then high school at Kimball and Chamberlain. She taught in the rural schools near Kimball for two years and then clerked at Skinrood's General Store for two years.

On July 31, 1922, she was married to Lloyd L. Kingsbury at Chamberlain, S.D. They lived most of their adults lives in Kimball, where they owned and operated the Casino Theatre and Ballroom. Alice lived in Garner from 1947 to 1952, where she managed the Avery Theatre. In 1964, Alice and Lloyd moved to Platte, S.D., where they managed a movie theatre. Lloyd passed away in 1967. In 1969, Alice moved to Prairie View Apartments in Garner where she resided for 27 years until she entered the Concord Care Center in August of 1996.

She was an excellent and creative seamstress, sewing for her family as well as being a leader in the county extension clubs. She made hundreds of rag rugs, woven on a treadle loom. During her years at Prairie View, she created many items for the annual bazaar. She was an active member of the United Presbyterian Church and also belonged to Royal Neighbors of America.

She is survived by her two daughters, Janice Lindsey, of Polson, Mont., and Joanne Olsen, of Garner; 11 grandchildren, Judy Okawa, James Banks, Patty Griffith, Nancy Lindsey, Brad Lindsey, Roche Lindsey, Richard Olsen, Gail Christians, Janet Meyne, Todd Olsen and Polly Judd; 19 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Bertha Olsen and her husband, Raymond, of Battle Ground, Wash., and Myrtle Williamson, of Vancouver, Wash.; a son-in-law, John Banks, of Florence, S.C.; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Wolbert, of Milaca, Minn., and Verla Wolbert, of Battle Ground, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Kingsbury, on Dec. 25, 1967; a daughter, Doris Banks; two grandchildren, Jane Lindsey and Mark Lindsey; a son-in-law, LeRoy Olsen; her parents; and three brothers, Walter, Lewis and Oliver Wolbert.

HARRY O. KALER

MASON CITY - Harry O. Kaler, 91, of Tyler, Texas, formerly of Mason City, died Friday (Aug. 27, 1999) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with Richard Davis and Matt Jensen officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to the Harry O. Kaler Memorial Fund.

Harry Kaler was born July 9, 1908, to J. William and Grace (Craft) Kaler in Fulton County, Ill. He had three brothers and five sisters.

He married Helen Christian of LaPorte City, Iowa, in 1931 and they made their home in Mason City, Iowa. He worked in trucking and established his own freight line, Kaler Freight Lines. He worked at his own company until his retirement. He and his wife Helen made their home at 38-20th St. S.E., in Mason City, where they raised their two children.

In 1990, he and Helen moved to Tyler, Texas where they lived in an apartment next door to their daughter. Helen died in April of this year.

He was very interested in sharing the gospel with everyone and spent quite a bit of time in his last years writing his memories of how he and his family heard the truth.

His family includes one daughter, Ruby Lawler of Tyler, Texas; one son, Gerald Kaler of Mason City, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Dan, Mike and Paul Kaler, Ken Klinner, Kris Griffin, Debra Taramona and Lora Slaughter; 14 great-grandchildren, David and Gabriel Kaler, Joshua, Amanda, Jacob, Hannah and Sarah Griffin, Kenny and Jonathan Klinner, Caleob and Alyssa Taramona and Johse, Whitney and Zackery Slaughter; four sisters, Helen Arvig of St. Paul, Minn., Pauline Steinbrecher of Motley, Minn., Berneice Muller of Thief River Falls, Minn., and Ruth Sandage of San Diego, Calif.; and one brother Floyd Kaler, of Belen, N.M.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; two brothers, Charles and Joe; one sister, Mary; and one son-in-law, Wayne Klinner.

ORLETTE S. FLORENTZ

MASON CITY - Orlette S. Florentz, 84, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Monday (Aug. 30, 1999) at the Good Shepherd Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 2502 S. Jefferson Ave., with the Rev. Joel Dahlen officiating. Interment will be in Beaver Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery, Joice.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

MYRNA KERR NELSON

MASON CITY - Memorial services for Myrna Kerr Nelson, 77, of Parma Heights, Ohio, formerly of Mason City, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at the First United Methodist Church Chapel, 119 S. Georgia Ave., Mason City. Inurnment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, prior to memorial services, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Myrna Kerr Nelson died on Saturday (Aug. 21, 1999).

BELMOND - Marilyn K. Kling, 62, of Belmond, died on Monday (Aug. 30, 1999) at the Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo.

TIM JOHNSON

ROCKWELL - Tim Johnson, 16, of Rockwell, died Sunday (Aug. 29, 1999) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at the Rockwell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bruce E. Wittern, assisted by the Rev. Robert Dodge, officiating. Interment will be at the Rockwell Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:30 until 8 p.m. today at the Methodist Church and again after 9 a.m. Thursday until service time. Fullerton Funeral home, of Rockwell, is in charge of arrangements.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Timothy J. Johnson Memorial Fund.

Tim was born on March 30, 1983, in Mason City, the son of Marvin Johnson and Kim Jorgensen. He was a junior at Rockwell-Swaledale High School where he loved sports and had participated in baseball and football. He also liked to play golf. His life was filled with friends, listening to music, making more friends, and traveling. He was an enthusiastic Chargers fan and enjoyed going to movies. He installed carpet with his dad and worked at Hy-Vee East.

Those thankful for sharing Tim's life are his mother, Kim and her husband, Raymond Ouellette, of Minneapolis; his father, Marvin and his wife, Becky Johnson, of Rockwell; one sister, Brittini Johnson, of Rockwell; three brothers, Treves Johnson, of Rockwell; Shawn Ouellette, of Minneapolis, and Jeffrey Ouellette, of Worchester, Mass; maternal grandparents, Earl and Beryl Jorgensen, of Mason City and paternal grandmother, Mildred Johnson, of Rockwell.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Harold Johnson.

ORLETTE S. FLORENTZ

MASON CITY - Orlette S. Florentz, 84, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Monday (Aug. 30, 1999) at the Good Shepherd Care Center.

Orlette Serene Florentz was born July 9, 1915, in rural Joice, Iowa, to Lars and Ida (Ramsey) Amundson. She was baptized in Beaver Creek Lutheran Church by the Rev. Johannes Granskou and confirmed in Concordia Lutheran Church by the Rev. L.E. Kleppe.

She completed her education in a rural school and lived with her parents on a farm southwest of Joice. For many years, she taught Sunday School in Beaver Creek and was an organist there.

In 1956, she moved with her mother to Mason City and became a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. She was employed in several nursing homes and Mercy Hospital.

On Nov. 24, 1966, she married Melvin Florentz, of Mason City, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on Christmas Day of 1977.

She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and church circle as well as the WELCA.

She is survived by a sister, Ila Knutson, of Northwood; a brother, Lester Amundson and his wife, Avis, of Northwood; four nieces, Sharyl Nestor, Rachel Nordstrom, Karen Watney and Mary Johnson; and two nephews, Timothy and Gary Knutson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four infant sisters; brother-in-law, Cornell Knutson; and two great-nephews, Aaron and Daniel Nordstrom.
