Doris Ellen Magee
Twin Falls
Doris Ellen Magee, 85, of Twin Falls passed away Dec. 4, 2004, at the Sunbridge Retirement Center.
She was born July 12, 1919, in Rossville, Kan., the daughter of Henry M. and Edith I. Burns Martin. Doris married
Fredrick Magee on Jan. 30, 1940. To this union were born three children. Fredrick passed away on June 26, 1976.
She was a great homemaker who loved to crochet and do handicrafts and play cards. Doris delighted in teaching her grandchildren and younger children to play poker, sometimes to the detriment of the beginners' piggy banks. She came from a large family and her extended family at one time consisted of over 67 nieces and nephews. The highlight of her life was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was deeply loved and will be missed by all.
Surviving are her children, Sondra Carpenter of Twin Falls, James Magee of Twin Falls, and Karla (Humberto) Aguilar of Rogerson; brother Charles Martin of Silver Lake, Kan. and sisters, Olive Baird of Neosho, Mo., Betty Gibson of Topeka, Kan., and Catherine DeVader of St. Mary's, Kan.; and 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Her parents, her husband, three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death, along with her granddaughter Tonya Pedersen.
A service of remembrance will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004 at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home at 2551 Kimberly Road in Twin Falls. Private family inurnment will follow at a later date in Kansas.
Michael 'ML' Black
Twin Falls
Michael "ML" Black, age 62, of Twin Falls, passed away Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 4, 1942, at Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Arthur Dean and Maude Bullock Black. Mike moved with his family to the Magic Valley as a small child, and was raised here and graduated from Twin Falls High School. On Sept. 7, 1962, at Twin Falls, he married
Margaret Matlock who survives. His life was spent hunting and fishing and adoring his grandchildren. For the past 16-17 years, he had worked for PSI as a truck driver.
In addition to his wife, Margaret Black of Twin Falls, Idaho, he is survived by his three children, Margie Black, Mike and his wife, Cindy Black, all of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Bill and his wife, Kim Black of Boise, Idaho; one brother, Earl Jones and his wife, Elma of Twin Falls, Idaho; and five grandchildren.
At the family's request, no services are to be held. Cremation services are under the direction of White Mortuary "Chapel by the Park."
Truman Franklin Clark

Truman Franklin Clark, 93, of Buhl, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Truman was born on Feb. 2, 1911, to J. Frank and Inez Brackett Clark at Cedar Creek, south of Roseworth Reservoir. It was a stage stop on the road to Jarbidge, Nev. He was the son of early pioneer families, the Clarks, who came to settle in 1878, and the Bracketts, who came in 1884. Truman attended school at Roseworth, Poplar Hill, Brown's Bench and graduated from high school at Filer in 1930. He attended ISU when it was the University of Idaho, Southern Branch, in Pocatello.
Truman married
Grace Joslin at her parent's home south of Filer on May 10, 1936. They farmed at Roseworth and south of Castleford, where their three children, June, Marian and Jim, were born. They later divorced and he married
Gayle Haley on March 11, 1948, at Elko, Nev. They farmed and ran cattle on the old Brackett place for 20 years.
During his career, Truman ran wild horses with pioneer Chet Brackett, his uncle, breaking them and selling them to the Army. He went on to own a ranching operation that spread from Castleford to Nevada. He retired in 1985, dividing his time between homes in Filer, Buhl, Sun Valley and Arizona.
During his lifetime, Truman Clark was a member of the '71 Cattlemen's Association, Magic Valley Cattlemen's Association, the Idaho Cattlemen's Association, and was a past member of the Moose Lodge and the Elks. He served on the Twin Falls Soil Conservation District Board for 25 years, appointed by the Governor of Idaho. He also served on the Roseworth School Board. Truman was inducted into the Idaho Cattlemen's Hall of Fame, an honor that was also bestowed upon his father, J. Frank Clark.
Truman had many interests, hunting, rock-hounding, coin, gun and arrowhead collecting. He and Gayle spent many fun years snowmobiling with friends and family near their Boulder Mountain cabin in the Sun Valley area. He took great pleasure in taking his grandsons and great-grandsons shooting at the Charlie Brackett place in the South Hills. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an expert in the history of that area. He was a valuable resource for many articles and books about the early history of this region. As a story teller, he passed on the information about the events and life of early settlers.
Truman is survived by his two daughters, June (Kenneth) Tverdy of Castleford and Marian Clar of Twin Falls; his stepson, Joe (Rae) Haley of Castleford; stepdaughter, Sharon Haley of California; grandsons, Scott (Teresa) Tverdy of Buhl, Chris (Julie) Tverdy of Boise, Mark (Megan) Tverdy of Boise and Erik (Patricia) Clar of Oregon City, Ore.; granddaughters, Terri (John) Kaminski of Seattle, Francie (Kevin) Lenane of Hailey, Amie (Lynn) Fehrer of Boise, AnnaLisa (Terry) Danysh of Snoqualmie, Wash., Nicole Estrada and Danielle Mora, both of Castleford; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Truman was preceded in death by Gayle, his wife of 44 years; his son, James F. Clark; his sister, Edna Bailey; and two grandchildren, Debbie Tverdy Little and Brett Haley.
Friends may call from noon until 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at Serenity Funeral Chapel, 2158 Fourth Ave. E., Twin Falls, Idaho. The funeral will be conducted at noon Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at Rock Creek Community Church/Twin Falls Seventh Day Adventist Church on Grandview Drive in Twin Falls, with a viewing at the church one hour prior to the service. Mike Bulkley will officiate. A reception and meal will follow the service at the school cafeteria next to the church. Everyone is invited to attend. Private burial will be held at a later date. Services are under the direction of Serenity Funeral Chapel in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Kay Kawamoto
Spokane, Wash.
Kay Kawamoto, age 82, passed away on July 10, 2004, at Spokane, Wash.
Kay was born on Feb. 8, 1922, in Troutdale, Ore., to Ichiro and Ito Kawamoto. After Pearl Harbor, the family was moved to the Minidoka Relocation Camp (Hunt). During this time, Kay enlisted in the U.S. Army. Kay decided after the war that the Magic Valley had many opportunities. He worked many years as a professional photographer for Gus Kelker, while learning the restaurant business on the side. In 1952, Kay, Mary and George opened the first of several restaurants in the Magic Valley. The Rice Bowl was located at East Five Points. In 1956, a new building was erected on Addison Avenue West (now the site of Rock Creek). After several remodels, it was renamed K's Supper Club. Kay later left the business and opened a restaurant in Lake Oswego, Ore. Returning to Twin Falls in 1970, he owned and operated Crown Litho Printing, but returned to the restaurant business in 1972 to help his brother and son. George K's opened in 1972 and George K's East (Burley) in 1982.
Kay is survived by his wife, Joyce of Burley; brother, George of Burley; sister, Jane (Vic) Hinatsu of The Dalles, Ore.; his children, Kerry (Ruthie) of Twin Falls, daughter, Becky (Ron) Fox of Avondale, Ariz.; daughter, Kaleen Leslie; and son, Kyle of Burley. Kay also had two grandchildren, Cade and Kara, and a great-grandchild, Kinsey. He also had numerous nephews and nieces. Kelly Kawamoto and Louis Tanaka live in Burley. Kay was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
No services or memorial will be held. Inurnment will be at Sunset Memorial Park under the direction of White Mortuary, "Chapel by the Park."
Lonnie M. Horton
Twin Falls
Lonnie M. Horton, age 82, of Twin Falls, passed away Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 9, 1922, at Calera, Ala., the son of Carl and Susan Miller Horton. In 1942 he entered the United Sates Navy, serving in both World War II and the Korean Conflict, spending the next 20 years and retiring in 1962 after faithfully serving his country. On Sept. 14, 1944, at Calera, Ala., he married
Letha Sexton who survives. The couple has made their home in the Magic Valley since 1987.
Lonnie enjoyed gardening, raising fruits and vegetables, fishing, horse racing and visiting Jackpot, Nev. He was a member of Fleet Reserve and the American Legion Post #19 at Fairfield, Idaho.
In addition to his wife; Letha Horton of Twin Falls, he is survived by his three children; Linda Muir, Loni Mckinney and her husband Tony -- all three of Lancaster, Calif., George Ann and her husband Michael Renfrow of Henderson, Nev., two sisters; Mildred Tidwell of Calera, Ala. and Melissa Nelson of Alabaster, Ala.; one brother, Howard and his wife Trudie; eleven grandchildren. of which Charity Lockwood was raised by Grandpa; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
At his request no public services are to be held. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of White Mortuary in Twin Falls.
Nelda Marie Schiffler
Lakewood, Colo.
Nelda Marie Schiffler, of Lakewood, Colo., and formerly of Twin Falls, Idaho, died Dec. 2, 2004.
She was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Enos and Arlene (Ruge) Schiffler. She was home schooled until her mother and Mildred Floyd started a school in the Lincoln School football field dressing room. Nelda typed her daily lessons faithfully and then spent hours working at her art -- drawing, painting, cutting and pasting to create beautiful works of art which she bestowed on her family and friends.
She lived on Pierce Street until moving to Lakewood, Colo. to live with her sister Myrna Ann Adkins in 1998. An active social and learning schedule of ball games, art lessons, lunch at the community center and exercise classes kept Nelda and the city's bus drivers busy.
Nelda's sparkling blue eyes and infectious laughter will be deeply missed. Her generous, loving spirit will be honored constantly in the thoughts of those she leaves behind to carry on the great work she did of spreading joy to all.
She will be buried with her mother and father in Twin Falls cemetery on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004 at 2 p.m. and afterward there will be an open house celebration of Nelda's life in the Fireside Room at the Twin Falls Presbyterian Church. We hope family and friends will all come to share memories and to honor her with a few rounds of applause.
Eula Vera Shook Zimmerman
Dallas, Ore.
Eula Vera Shook Zimmerman, 92, a resident of Dallas, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, in Portland.
She was one of six children born on May 14, 1912, in Astoria, Mo., the daughter of Thomas Leonard and Elva Austin Beckham. She married
Omer Shook in 1939 in Boise, Idaho, and he preceded her in death in 1976. She and Omer owned and operated a country convenience store in Shoshone, Idaho. After Omer died, Eula married
Kenneth Zimmerman on March 1, 1977, in Salem, Ore. They lived in the Perrydale area of Dallas on a farm. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and cooking. Eula and Ken enjoyed traveling extensively with the Elderhostel program to China, Germany and Australia. Ken died on June 29, 2003. She was a former member of the Shoshone Idaho Baptist Church and a current member of the First Christian Church in Dallas. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Gooding, Idaho.
She is survived by stepsons, Michael Zimmerman of Salem, Donald Zimmerman of Scappoose and Mark Zimmerman of Portland; and stepdaughter, Kaye Webb of Beaverton along with several grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
A funeral will begin at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11th, in the Bollman Funeral Home. A private interment will be in the Dallas cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Shoshone Idaho Baptist Church or to the First Christian Church in Dallas in care of the Bollman Funeral Home, 694 Main St., Dallas, OR 97338.
Ruth Dorothy Moore
Ruth Dorothy Moore, 96, of Buhl, passed away Dec. 11, 2004, at the Twin Falls Care Center, Twin Falls, Idaho.
Ruth was born May 18, 1908, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Thomas and Maude Snowball Hodder. Ruth saw a lot of changes in her lifetime. As a child, the family moved to Idaho to one of the first fish farms in the Snake River Canyon, located at Crystal Springs. There was no access road out of the canyon there, so a boat was kept to carry them to the south side of the river. Here they kept a Model T Ford car, which they drove or pushed up the Crystal Springs grade to go to town. She and her brother, Kenneth, spent countless hours playing in that boat on the river. They then moved to early day Twin Falls and Ruth told of accompanying her mother to lunch at the home of Lucy Stricker of the Stricker Ranch. She was an avid bridge player all her life and played with a group of ladies until her health began to fail.
Ruth married
Saul Moore of Buhl in 1935. They farmed until their retirement, moving to a home in Buhl. She was active on the farm, cooking for large harvest crews and also large gatherings of family and friends.
Surviving is a nephew, Brent (Judy) Hodder of Spotsylvania, Va., and countless other family and friends. She titled herself their "other mother" to niece and nephew, Bud and Barbara Deakins, who cared for her in her final years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and three brothers.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, at Sunset Memorial Park, Twin Falls. At her request, no public viewing will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to a charity of your choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Farmers Funeral Chapel, Buhl.
Charles Francis Perry
Charles Francis Perry, 84, passed away peacefully of kidney failure Dec. 11, 2004, at the Twin Falls Care Center.
He was born Nov. 9, 1920, in Mitchell, Neb., to Lodema and William Perry. His parents moved to Wheatland, Wyo., where he grew up and graduated from Wheatland High School in 1938. He joined the U.S. Army shortly after graduation and spent two years in the Aleutian Islands, one of the early battlefields in World War II. He rose from the rank of private to eventually retire as a Major. During his 23 years in the service he served both in the U.S. Army and Army Air Force, teaching navigation and bombardier training. He finished his military service with the Reserves in Wyoming and Idaho. He was a building contractor and owner of Perry Plumbing in Twin Falls for 30 years.
He married
Violet Jean Kiefe in 1943. To this union, two children, Violet Darleene and Charles D. were born. His wife, Jean, died in 1990. He then married
Pat Thompson Christiansen in 1992.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; children, Darleene (Larry) Thorsted, Charles (Kat) Perry; a sister, Genevieve (Laurel) Smith; and three grandchildren, Melanie McGillvray (Neil) Whitley, Dennis (Liz) McGillvray and Deidra Thorsted (Randy) Holliday. Also surviving are three stepchildren, Timothy Thompson, Terry Thompson and Tammy Martin; and 12 stepgrandchildren. He also has six great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
We will all miss his wit, humor and genteel manner very much. We will treasure hearing his numerous stories from World War II and his life experiences forever. He was a kind, loving and considerate father, grandfather and husband and will be sorely missed.
Charles was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean; parents; a brother, Willard Perry; and a sister, Darleene Gergely.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, at the Twin Falls First United Methodist Church with Pastor Greg Lindsay officiating.
The family asks that memorials be given to the Twin Falls United Methodist Church. Arrangements and services are under the direction of White Mortuary, "Chapel by the Park."
Donald Clifford Olson
Donald Clifford Olson, an 80-year-old Albion resident, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, at his home in Albion.
He was born Feb. 18, 1924, in Genesee, Idaho, the son of Clifford Lawrence and Rosalia Hasfurther Olson.
Donald worked in real estate in California from 1955 to 1972. He moved to Idaho in 1973, where he was a cattle buyer out of Albion. He was a resident of Albion for 31 years. Donald was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved his family.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Eva of Albion; a son, Larry Olson of Martinez, Calif.; a daughter, Rosann Gilbert; and a son-in-law, Lloyd Gilbert, both of Laredo, Texas; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.
Don's wishes were no services and that his ashes be scattered over his favorite hunting area. Arrangements are under the direction of Payne Mortuary, 221 W. Main St. in Burley.
