LETA E. HOWARD
BURLEY - Leta Ellen Funk Howard, 89-year-old Burley resident died Saturday, August 2, 2003, at the Cassia Regional Medical Center in Burley.
She was born December 25, 1913, in Burley, the daughter of Rufus E. and Clara Ellen Radel Funk.
She attended schools in Burley and also lived in Burley most of her life.
She married Ledith Wilburn "Buck" Howard on June 30, 1931, in Ogden, Utah.
He preceded her in death on May 8, 1985.
Leta was a long time member of the United Methodist Church, serving as a communion steward for several years.
She has been active in the United Methodist Women, serving as an officer in some divisions.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan Addison of Rupert and Loretta Morton of Spring Creek, Nev.; a son, Kenneth W. Howard of Mountlake Terrace, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, two sisters, two granddaughters; and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2003, at the Payne Memorial Chapel, 221 West Main Street in Burley, with Pastor Keith Wise, officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley.
Friends may call at the Payne Mortuary on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and from 1-1:45 p.m., prior to the funeral on Thursday.

Warren Holm
Charles Warren Holm, 86, of Burley, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, at his home.
He was born July 25, 1917, in Burley, the son of Charles and Mary Jane Richards Holm.
He received his education in Burley.
He married Elva Ramola Guthrie on June 10, 1939, in Burley.
Warren farmed in the Pella area all of his married life.
He worked for the Burley Irrigation District for many years and always talked about how proud he was to have followed in the father's footsteps as the area Ditch Rider.
He loved his family and was dedicated to their lives.
He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed fishing.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elva Holm of Burley; one son, Robert Larry (Lorraine) Holm of Rupert; three grandchildren, Mark (Linda) Holm of Rochester, Minn., Mike Holm of Burley, and Kristen (Calvin) Keck of Jerome; four great-grandchildren, Megan, Chad, Zoe and Robert; and two sisters, Shirley Kerbs and Katherine Rice both of Burley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mildred Holm; and two brothers, Bobby and Boyd Holm.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2003, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley, with Bishop Alfred Barrus officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery.
Friends may call at Rasmussen Funeral Home, Burley, on Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m., and on Thursday, from 1 to 1:45 p.m.

Robert Alexander Elquist Sr.
Robert Alexander Elquist Sr. passed away July 31, 2003, at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Robert Alexander was born on April 2, 1929, in Marion.
The family moved to Nevada in l939. He graduated from Battle Mountain High School in 1947.
In 1948 he married June MacMaster and they moved to the Getchel Mine and later to Reno, Nev.
He joined the Air National Guard which was activated during the Korean War & served in Texas & California.
He worked as a truck driver, heavy equipment operator, diesel mechanic & real estate broker.
In 1976 the family moved to Las Vegas where practiced real estate until his retirement in 1991.
He is survived by his wife June, his sons Stuart & Robert Jr. and daughter Stacey Brewer, Grandchildren Jeanette Hernesman, Dustin Brewer, Michael Brewer, Jason Brewer & Laura Ware and 4 great grandchildren.
He is also survived by sisters Mary Mauldin, Gloria Smith, Susan Elquist brothers Bill, Larry, Jim & John and numerous nieces & nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents Marva & Kimball Elquist and brother Alan Elquist.
A memorial service is planned for August ll at 3:30 pm at Shadow Hills Church in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Ashes will be interred at Battle Mountain Cemetery on Saturday September 6 at 11:00am, followed by a gathering of relatives & friends at the Hideway Dinner House in Battle Mountain.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice, 4141 Swenson St., Las Vegas, Nevada 89119.

Ida Wren Cagle
Ida Wren Cagle, a former Rupert resident, passed away July 31, 2003, in Battle Mountain, Nev.
Ida was born June 24, 1914, to Orville and Effie May Wren in Stone.
She grew up and attended school in Stone.
She married Forrest A. Cagle on September 11, 1936.
Forrest had four children from a previous marriage.
Together they had six children.
They lived in Snowville, Utah until 1958 when they moved to the Rupert-Acequia area.
After the death of her husband in September of 1968, she worked at Minidoka Memorial Hospital until her retirement.
In 1989, Ida moved to Winnemucca, Nev.
She was a homemaker and loved flowers, crocheting, embroidery, reading and working in her yard.
She enjoyed all the farm animals, especially the cows.
She belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities.
Ida is survied by her children; Nellie Schofield of Winnemucca, Nev., Kathy (Darl) Wellard of El Cajon, California, Ray (Julia) Cagle of American Falls, Valorie (Cary) Wyall of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Jennie (Don) Merkley of Jerome: her four children from her husband's previous marriage, Laurie (Charles) Sloan of Carsen City, Nev., Henry (Betty) Cagle of Lovelock, Nev., Forrest W. Cagle of Downey, and Clara Wren of Heyburn; 36 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; two sisters, May Carter of Holbrook, and Dora Thomas of Anchorage, Alaska.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Nolan, two grandsons, one grand daughter, one great granddaughter, and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2003, at the Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel, 710 6th Street.
A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services.
Burial will follow at the Rupert Cemetery, Rupert.

Mary O. Wiley
Burley - Mary Orpha Wiley, 82, of Burley, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at Cassia Regional Medical Center. She was born December 29, 1920, in Paul, Idaho, the daughter of Luther and Rosetta Oliver McMillan. She received her education in Paul, graduating from Paul High School. She married Vernie Hunt and he was later killed in an automobile accident. She married Ted Allen and he later passed away. She then married Robert Wiley and he preceded her in death on December 4, 1995.
With the exception of a few years in Colorado, Mary has resided in the Mini-Cassia area her entire life.
She was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, embroidery work, cooking, and camping.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She is survived by her son, Garry (Dorothy) Hunt of Portland, Oregon; two grandchildren, Tammie (Coleman) Wheeler of Phoenix, Arizona, and Verne Hunt of Portland; three great-grandchildren, Donika Hunt, Angela Degeraty, and Keith Degeraty; and one great-great-granddaughter, Alyxis Degeraty.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and one sister.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at the View First and Second Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 550 South 500 East, Burley, with Bishop Ray Robinson officiating. Burial will be in the Declo Cemetery.
Friends may call at Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley, on Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m., and at the church on Wednesday, from 10-10:45 a.m.

MURIEL SCOTT
BURLEY - Muriel Scott, 92 year old Burley resident, died Friday, July 25, 2003 at Cassia Regional Medical Center in Burley.
She was born October 8, 1910 in Plains, Montana, the daughter of Frank and Sarah Welch Payne.
She attended schools in Montana and graduated from White hall High School.
She married Merton L. Scott June 5, 1929 in Whitehall, Montana.
In 1945 she moved to Burley.
Muriel and Merton were active members of the First Christian Church.
She was a school cook and also a cook for Bryan's Café.
In 1988 she became involved in the Senior Companion Program and worked as a Senior Companion for 5 years.
She is survived by her children, Leonard (Shirley) Scott of Jacksonville, Florida, Robert (Marie) Scott of San Francisco, CA., Sarah Mae Hess of Twin Falls, Idaho, Shirley Rae of Burley, Helen (Clyde) Swaby of Salt Lake City, Ut. 1 Brother, Derald Payne of Riverside, CA., 1 Sister, Dorothy Mears of Redmond, WA. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1988, 1 great-grandchild, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at the Payne Memorial Chapel with Pastor Herb C. Whitaker, officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Payne Mortuary and from 9:00 until 9:45 a.m. Wednesday prior to the services.
Family suggests memorials be made to the Burley First Christian Church or to a charity of donors choice.
Memorials may be left at or mailed to Payne Mortuary, 221 West Main, Burley.

Madge L. Schummer
Declo - Madge Lavonne Schummer, 75, of Declo, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at Cassia Regional Medical Center in Burley.
She was born March 26, 1928, in Marcus, Meade County, South Dakota, the daughter of Archie and Orpha Della Hart Simons.
She received her education in Red Owl, South Dakota.
Following her marriage to Victor Paul Schummer, they moved to Idaho, where they lived in Almo.
They later moved to Oakley, where she worked at the Oakley Café.
Following their divorce, Madge lived in Burley and Rupert, prior to moving to Declo, where she has since resided.
She worked at Ore-Ida Foods in Burley, retiring after 22 years of service.
Madge played the accordion, enjoyed watching The Grand 'Ole Opry, viewing Western movies, playing cards, and working in her flower gardens. She was also an avid reader. She loved her family and especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Linda Perkins of Mountain Home, Idaho, Judy McKnight of Rupert, Larry Schummer of Gooding, Joanne Ply and Mae Crawford, both of Declo; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Orrie Simons; two sons, Terry Schummer, and Mark Schummer; and two grandsons, Chance Schummer, and Mickey McKnight.
The funeral will be held at noon Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., Burley, with Pastor Quinn Yarbrough officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Twin Falls.
Friends may call at Rasmussen Funeral Home on Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m., and on Wednesday, one hour prior to the funeral.
