Sidney Anderson
MALTA - Sidney Anderson, 65, beloved husband, father, grandfather, fishing buddy, and friend passed away suddenly of a heart attack on Friday, July 25, 200,3 in Soda Springs while fishing with old friends.
Born Sept. 24, 1937, in Logan, Utah, to Lyman and Loretta (Qualman) Anderson, he married Ruth Lofgreen on August 14, 1971. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple on August 14, 1984.
Sidney graduated from South Cache High School. Served in the U.S. Army as a regular and as a reservist.
Sidney and Ruth moved from Millville Utah to Malta in 1982. While living in Utah Sid worked for Stucki Miller construction and built several custom homes.
In Malta he worked at Interstate Feeders doing maintenance and on his farm until open-heart surgery forced him into early retirement in 1999.
In his spare time Sidney loved being with family and friends, remodeling his and his friend's homes working with wood, being outdoors camping and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth, four children Deborah (Fred) Krauth of St. Clair Shores, Mich., Ronald (Paula) Miller of Logan, Utah, Leslie (Ric) Nunnally of Hyrum, Utah; Sherrie (Ed) Stuckert LaHabra Calif., Shanon Anderson Logan Utah; nine grandchildren Kaleb, Rashad, Ryan, Alexander, Elizabeth, Nathan, Amber, Madilyne and Blake; his sister Aloma Hammond, and four brothers Sheldon (Shirley) Johnson; Val (Marla) Anderson, Leon (Effie) Anderson; Leone (Viola) Anderson.
His father, mother, twin brother Sylvan, sisters Joy, Dorine, and son Bret preceded him in death.

Relatives and friends can visit on Wednesday, July 30, 200,3 at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 38 East Center, Logan, Utah, from 6 to 8 p.m.. Memorial services will be held Thursday, July 31, 2003, at Millville Second Ward, 360 East 450 North, from noon to 1 p.m. Relatives and friends can call between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. the day of memorial services at the Millville Second Ward.
Theral Fredrick Parish
Theral Fredrick Parish, 78, passed away on July 30, 2003 in Mesa, Ariz.
She was born September 26, 1924 in Elba to Alonzo F. and Ida Pettingill Parish. He was the youngest of seven children. He attended elementary school in Elba and graduated from Raft River High School where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball.
He had a great love for music and sang and played tenor saxophone and clarinet in dance bands from the time he entered high school until he moved to the Phoenix, Arizona area in 1984. Theral had a great appreciation of nature and the great outdoors where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, skiing and riding the countryside on his motorcycle.
At an early age he became fascinated by planes and spent 31 years working for Republic Air on a job he loved. He retired in 1984 and has spent the remaining years perfecting his golf game, playing table tennis, visiting with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He had a special love for all children but especially small babies.
Theral never met a stranger as he was friendly and kind to everyone. Because of this he made many life-long friends. He was a gentle man with a big heart. He was accepting of others and was empathetic to their needs. He taught his family by love and by example.
He was an active High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he held many positions especially enjoying the scouting program, working in the nursery, and doing temple service.
Theral and his former wife, Dorothy Holgreen had five children. His surviving children are Pamela D. Ruby (Gerald), Wendy Jackson (Jason), Kevan T. Parish (Janell), Cindy Wilmarth (Brock), fifteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Lonny S. Parish (Nina).
Theral married Joan Watson in 1982 and is survived by his wife, Joan and her five children; Rand Watson (Pat), Anne Guthrie (Kevin), Joel Watson, Brent Watson and Teresa Watson, 11 grandchildren and two great granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his son, his parents, Alonzo and Ida Parish and sisters, Alta Ottley Glade, Delta Jones Wickel and brothers Orvis and Geral Parish.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, August 4, 2003 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Star Ward, 100 South 200 West, with Bishop Chad Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Gem Memorial Garden Cemetery
in Burley.
The family has requested that a viewing be held on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at Hansen Mortuary Burley Chapel 321 East Main Street, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
G. LeRoy Nelson
George LeRoy Nelson, 87, passed away on July 28, 2003, at his home in Juniper.
He was born June 18, 1916, in College Ward, Utah, to George and Lela Ann Austin Nelson. He married Lillian Barrus of Groveland on September 29, 1936, in the Logan Temple. They were married for 66 years and are the parents of six daughters and two sons.
LeRoy's family made their home in Howell, Utah, until he was about three years old. At that time, they moved to Juniper, where he resided until the time of his death, being a resident of the area longer than any other individual. As a farmer he raised wheat and beef cattle.
LeRoy was the first grandchild of James and Annie Nelson of College Ward, and the oldest living member of their family until his death.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in various callings in the Juniper Ward, the Logan 1st Ward, and the Malta Wards. LeRoy and Lillian served an agriculture mission in the South Dakota Northern Indian Mission in 1972-73.
LeRoy was a faithful husband and father, known for being a man of integrity and charity. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, two brothers, and two grandchildren, Susan Larkin and LeRoy Eugene Exeter.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian, sister, Rita Black, brother, Merrell Nelson, eight children, 50 grandchildren, and 85 great grandchildren. His children include Carla and Arthur Exeter of Pocatello, Noreen and Eugene Larkin and Louise and Kent Nielsen of Roy, Pauline and Weldon Sleight and George and Virginia Nelson of Logan, Starlene and Gary Draper of Wellsville, Bernice and Jerry Spendlove of Price, and Zeldon and Mary Lynne Nelson of Juniper.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 31, from 6-8 p.m. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary at 34 East Center Street in Logan. There will also be a viewing Friday, August 1, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Logan 1st Ward Building at 89 South 200 West, with the funeral following at noon. LeRoy's son-in-law, Bishop Weldon Sleight, will officiate at the services.
FRANK M. JIMENEZ
BURLEY - Frank M. Jimenez, 51 year old Burley resident died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at the Minidoka Memorial Hospital in Rupert.
He was born December 7, 1952, in San Francisco, California, the son of Gavino Zurita and Stella Molina Jimenez. He lived in Fresno, California, for a period of time, and around 1972, he moved to Burley, where he had since resided.
Frank married Billi Kostka on November 18, 1988, in Burley. He had worked at Santos Recycling and at Ore-Ida Food. Frank loved his family very much. He especially loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them whenever he could. He loved to hunt and fish. Frank was a remarkable man, who was loved very much and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Billi of Burley; four sons, Frank Jimenez of Reedly, California, Manuel Jimenez of Burley, Justin Jimenez of Burley and Fernando Jimenez, of Rupert; two daughters, Jessica Jimenez of Burley and Lisa Jimenez of Bakersfield, California; his mother and step father, Stella and Jacinto Torres of Dinuba, California; two sisters, Ramona Jimenez and Margret Jimenez, both of Fresno, California; three brothers, Fernando Jimenez of Kingsburg, California, Rick Jimenez of San Diego, California, and Mario Jimenez of Dinuba, California; ten grandchildren and one on the way, Deserae Jimenez, and Frankie Jimenez, both of Reedly, California, Destiny Jimenez of Burley, Paris Jimenez of Burley, Isaah Jimenez of Burley, Jazlyn Jimenez of Burley, Savanna Jimenez of Bakersfield CA., Gracie Jimenez of Bakersfield CA., Rachell Jimenez of Bakersfield CA., and Onica Corr of Burley; two special friends, Matt Stamper and Robert Cano, both of Burley; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2003, at the Payne Memorial Chapel, 221 West Main Street in Burley, with Richard Nevarez, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Payne Mortuary in Burley.
Oscar Lopez Garcia
TEXAS CITY, Texas - Mr. Oscar Lopez Garcia passed from this life Tuesday morning, July 29, 2003, at home surrounded by his family.
Born June 28, 1947 in Cuidad Mante, Mexico, He was a migrant farm worker who enjoyed working with wood and he especially loved being with his family. He lives in this area for a time.
Survivors include his loving wife, Manuela Garcia; sons and daughters-in-law, Oscar and Belia Garcia, Rafael and Yolanda Garcia, Jamie Garcia all of Texas City; daughters and sons-in-law, Ofelia and Polo Cisneros of Humble, Erica and Daniel Cisneros of Humble, Daisy and Daniel Calderon of Salido, Nora Garcia of Mexico: brothers and sister-in-law, Saul and Isabel Garcia of Texas City, Gustavo Garcia of Galveston; sisters and brothers-in-law, Blanca and Mario Villarreal of Texas City, Olga and Rey Partida of Texas City, Silvia and Jesus Villarreal of Pharr, Irma and Armondo Espinosa of Mexico, Lesvia Garcia of Mexico and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted today in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with Pastor Crescencio Veliz and Pastor Manuel Pedraza officiating. Interment will be at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery.

Doris Marie Duffin
Doris Marie Duffin, ever gracious and cherished, died peacefully on July 16, 2003 at her La Jolla home surrounded by her beloved family.
Having provided a haven for many, she leaves a legacy of warmth and hospitality for her idea of family extended well into the community. She was born October 7, 1916, in Boise, Idaho to Rose Bagley Eby and Adam Earl Eby.
Doris graduated from Boise High School in 1934. She was an active member of the Honor Society, Senior Class President, and won the Idaho State Women's Championship in Tennis. After high school, she worked 2 years at C.C. Anderson Company to save money for college and continued playing tennis. She was a member and former Queen of Job's Daughters.
At age 18 she joined Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile, continuing as a lifetime member. Doris attended the University of Idaho from 1936 - 1940 receiving a BS in Business Administration/Ed. She was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority and worked as the house manager in 1939 and 1940.
When she was a junior at the University of Idaho, Doris met her husband, Lawrence H. Duffin. After she graduated, they married on July 31, 1940. Doris worked at the University for 2 years until Lawrence Duffin graduated from Law School and received his orders to report to Fort Benning.
Doris accompanied Lawrence and took on work wherever they moved, including Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, and Georgia. In 1946, they settled in Rupert, Idaho, where Lawrence began his career as a trial lawyer.
They raised their six children and spent summers fishing and winter weekends skiing at their cabin in Ketchum, Idaho. Friends were always welcome as Doris was pleased that the cabin had enough beds to sleep 24 and she invariably made sure everyone was fed!
The family moved to La Jolla in 1964, spending several summers in San Marcos raising Midnight Queen Bees.
Dividing time between California and Idaho, Lawrence resumed his law practice in Burley, Idaho, and Doris renewed her interest in golf and bridge. In 1984 the 'Bee Farm' became a plant nursery for endangered species. Doris always referred to life with Lawrence as "Never a dull moment!", Doris and Lawrence finally retired to their La Jolla home in 1989.
After her husband's death, Doris continued in her gracious and generous manner opening her home to many.
She was an avid reader, a baseball and football enthusiast, an absolutely terrific mom to her own kids and to many others she took under her wing along the way, and she could almost effortlessly cook for an army (and often did).
As the family matriarch for a large and extended family, she will be deeply missed. Her husband, Lawrence H. Duffin, and one brother, Richard Earl Eby, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her children: Linda Duffin Elliott, Lake Elsinore, CA; Lawrence H. Duffin, Jr., Imperial Beach, CA; Nancy & Michael Vincent, La Jolla, CA; Stephen & Cydney Duffin, Anchorage, AK; Kathleen & Jim Flippen, Leucadia, CA; and Mark & Deborah Duffin, San Diego, CA. Daughter/Son in Laws: Cary Shillington, Boise, ID; and Dennis Reed, La Jolla, CA. Grandchildren: Cindy & Ric Sisco, Corona, CA; Lawrence H. Duffin III, Darcy Duffin, both La Jolla, CA; Chelsea Duffin, Courtney Duffin, William Duffin, and Collier Duffin, all Anchorage, AK; Zachary Reed, La Jolla, CA; Tawney Flippen, San Marcos, CA; Richard Thomas, San Diego, CA. Great-grandchildren: Leland Sisco, Lauren Sisco and Chance Sisco, all Corona, CA.
Graveside Services were held at El Camino Memorial Park, 5600 Carroll Canyon Road, San Diego, CA at 2:00 p.m. Monday July, 21, 2003
