Dennis John Burrell, 57, passed from this life here on earth to his eternal life with Jesus, Wednesday, February 18, 2004 in Careywood, Idaho. A celebration of Dennis’s life has been held.
Dennis was born on November 26, 1946 in Des Moines, Iowa to John and Audrey Burrell. He grew up and attended schools in Washington State. In 1965, he served his country for a short period of time in the United States Army.
He married Vicki York on July 3, 1985 in Hannibal Missouri. Dennis worked as a truck driver for Atlas Van Lines, and enjoyed moving people into their new homes. The couple moved to Sandpoint 10 years ago from Everett, WA.
Dennis loved the Lord, his wife, his four children, and especially his granddaughters Jade age 6, and Hannah age 6 months. He enjoyed fixing up old cars and collecting them.
He is survived by his wife Vicki Burrell of Cocolalla; daughters Kristina and Michelle Culberson of Spokane; sons Johnny Burrell of Seattle and Bill Burrell of Everett; brothers Nick Oppegard of Eagle River, AK; Jim Burrell of Riveside, CA; sisters Linda Duncan of Chewelah; Lora Willard of Arlington, WA; and six grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be sent to help Dennis’s family at PO Box 94, Cocolalla, ID 83813.

Melvin Irwin Schauer, 75, passed away, Friday, February 13, 2004, at his home in Ponderay, Idaho. Memorial services will be held at 1:00pm, Friday, February 20, 2004 at Shoshone Memorial Gardens in Kingston, Idaho. Military honors will be performed by V.F.W. Post #1675.
Mel was born on May 7, 1928 in Elbert, Colorado to Charles and Louise Schauer. He grew up and attended schools in Colorado and Washington State, eventually settling in Harrison, Idaho.
Mel married Norma Burket on October 15, 1953 in Coeur d’Alene. He joined the United States Army in 1954 and served as a medical corpsman during the Korean Conflict. Upon his honorable discharge in 1956, Mel went to work for the Potlatch Sawmill in Coeur d’Alene. He later moved to Pinehurst, Idaho and went to work for the Bunker Hill Mine in Kellogg. He retired as a mill operator in 1980.
Norma passed away in 1998, and Mel moved to Sandpoint in 2004 with his family. He is a member of V.F.W. post #1675. He enjoyed playing badminton, cards, dice, fishing, hunting, camping, and drives in the woods. He loved his grandchildren and being outdoors.
He is survived by his daughters Bonnie (Robert) Phillips of Sandpoint; Shirley Hooper of Sandpoint; and Lori (Tim) Braley of Pinehurst; brothers Chet Schauer of Amarillo, Texas; Steve Schauer of Coeur d' Alene; and Ira Schauer of Yuma, Arizona; sisters Rosie Kamper of Fair Oaks, California; and Verna Davis of Seattle, Washinston. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren Jacob Hooper, Micheal and Chrystal Goddard, Aliene Tipton, Rebecca, Robert, Jr., and Rachel Phillips. 8 great-grandchildren Benjamin Hooper, Trystan Braley, Dylan Foster, Reuban Mock, Donovan Moore, Caleb, Mickaylah, and Angelic Tipton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Norma, 5 brothers Lyle, Clarence, Marion, Chuck, and Dale Schauer, and sister Minnie Schauer.

Carol Yvonne Lopez, 71, resident of Sagle, Idaho, passed away on, Saturday, January 31, 2004 at her home.
Carol was born on October 7, 1932 in Bainville, Montana to Brooks and Loretta Dawson. She moved to Clagstone, Idaho when she was 12 years old and later to Sagle.
In 1955, she married George Lovell and they were later divorced. She married Rod Rodriguez and he passed away in 1970. In 1972 she married Pablo Lopez at the Hitch’n Post in Coeur d’Alene; he later passed away in 1984.
Carol enjoyed her children, grandchildren and her dogs.
She is survived by her son Randy Lovell of Sagle; daughter Joy (Harry) of Las Vegas, Nevada; step son Murphy (Sue) Lopez of Worley, Idaho; step daughters Chris Lopez of Sandpoint and Kathy (Chet) Ross of Denver, Colorado; 2 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
She is also survived by her three brothers Jerry Dawson of Spokane, Washington; Eddy Dawson of Sagle; and Dallas Dawson of Sagle; as well as sister in law Ione Dawson of California.
She was preceded in death by her parents 2 husbands Rod Rodriguez and Pablo Lopez and 3 brothers Noel, Wes, and Emmett Dawson.

Olive Cecelia Babcock passed away, Friday, January 30, 2004 in Sandpoint, ID. She was 101 years old.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm, Tuesday February 10, 2004 at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint with Fr. Dennis C. Day of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church officiating.
Funeral Mass will be held at the Regina Coeli Catholic Church in Alliance, Ohio at 10:00 am, Friday, February 13, 2004, with burial following at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Alliance, Ohio.
Olive was born on July 27, 1902 in Alliance, Ohio to Frank and Iva (King) McGrath. She grew up and attended schools in Alliance. She worked at Spring Holzworth and Alliance Dry Cleaning Company
Olive married Lawrence “Bab” Babcock on July 20, 1927. He passed away in 1950 and Olive lived on West Cambridge Street in Alliance for over 50 years. She moved to Sandpoint last year to be closer to family.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and later, Regina Coeli Catholic Church, both in Alliance. Olive was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed family fishing trips to Canada, her pet dogs, embroidery, and later in life, corresponding with friends and family all across the country.
She is survived by her three granddaughters Linda (Terence) MacAfee of Sandpoint; Debbie (Jim) Barnes of Minden, NV; Valerie (Doug) Dutcher of Norton, MA; grandson Bill (Lani) McDonald of Grants Pass, OR; 6 great-grandchildren Jason Maeck; Katelin MacAfee; Michael Barnes; Allison Dutcher; Julia Maggio and Jake Mac Donald; nephew Robert McGrath; nieces Nancy Zeak and Janice Malady; and daughter-in-law Jean Babcock.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Babcock, son Bruce Babcock, brother Garland McGrath and grandson Scott Babcock.

Barbara Louise Veraniam, 62, passed away, Wednesday, January 21, 2004, peacefully at her cabin on Upper Gold Creek surrounded by her family and close friends.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, February 8, 2004 at the Gardenia Center in Sandpoint.
Barbara was born on March 21, 1941 in the Bronx, New York to Alfred and Polly Greene. She grew up and attended schools in Mineola, New York. She graduated from Syracuse University in 1962.
Barbara taught Special Education and then opened her own business, Sundance Roasting Company. She manufactured and distributed nationwide her product, “Barley Brew,” a barley-based coffee alternative. Her business was an extension of her life and she ran it with the same warm and personal touch she did everything.
Barbara moved to Sandpoint in 1976. She was deeply committed to the North Idaho community, and was very involved with many of its organizations.
Barbara was a member of the Bonner County Human Rights Task Force, The Festival at Sandpoint, the Green Party, and the Gardenia Center. She enjoyed scrabble, music, the arts, community, spirituality, and the Flying Karamazov Brothers.
She is survived by her daughter Leni Marshall of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Son Juliand and wife Jessica Marshall of Berkeley, California; grandaughters Mara and Sylvia DuVernois of Minneapolis; brother Richard Greene of Eugene, Oregon; and mother Pauline Greene of Eugene, Oregon.
Memorial donations may be made in Barbara’s name to the Bonner County Human Rights Task Force, or the Gardenia Center, or just go out and change the world.

Sylvia Maxine “Sylva” Allen, 76, resident of Hope, Idaho, passed away, Tuesday, January 13, 2004 near Sandpoint, Idaho. Local services will be announced at a later date. Sylva was returned to Littleton, CO for services and burial in Chapel Hills Cemetery in Littleton.
Sylva was born on June 29, 1927 in Gordon, Nebraska one of 12 children born to James Henry and Mary Julia Eveland. She moved to the Trestle Creek area with her family in 1937, and graduated high school in Sandpoint.
She married Orville Odekirk and later Clifford Knudson, both preceded her in death. She married Joseph Allen on October 18, 2003 in Littleton, CO, and the couple made their home in Hope, ID.
Sylva is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day-Saints; she served in the San Diego and Denver Temples. Most recently she attended the Clark Fork LDS Church.
Sylva enjoyed quilting, cooking, drives with Joe, and spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed by all.
She is survived by her husband Joe Allen of Hope; son Virgil Odekirk of Temecula, California; daughters Maxine Simmons of San Diego, California, Gloria Dixon of Littleton, Colorado, and Carol Napolitano of Florence, Kentucky. Memories of her life will also be held by 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Bessie Alexander, Mary Allen and Mildred Allen and brothers David Eveland and Floyd Eveland.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 husbands, and several siblings.
