Jesse Leroy Mechling, 66, Orofino
Jesse Leroy Mechling, 66, Orofino, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.
Cremation is to take place as requested. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. March 26 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Orofino.
Pine Hills Funeral Chapel and Crematory is caring for arrangements.

Roger Joseph Praest, 70, Orofino
Roger Joseph Praest, 70, Orofino, passed away at his home Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011.
Cremation is to take place as requested. Services are pending. Pine Hills Funeral Chapel and Crematory is caring for arrangements.

Charles Andrew 'Chuck' Johnson, 81, Orofino
Charles Andrew 'Chuck' Johnson, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and uncle, passed away in Spokane at Hospice of Spokane, Feb. 11, 2011. He had been hospitalized for pneumonia after recovering from heart surgery in November. He was 81 years old.
Born in 1929 in Langdon, ND, Chuck was one of six children. After graduating high school, Chuck joined the United States Army, which allowed him to see parts of Europe. Upon his discharge, he moved to Minneapolis, MI where he not only studied to become a journeyman electrician, he met his wife, Margaret. They married in 1955, and moved to Orofino in 1956. They had four children, Linda (b. 1958) Beth (b. 1961), Peggy (b. 1963) and David (b.1965).
Shortly after moving to Orofino, Chuck and Marge became two of the founding members of Ascension Lutheran Church. Over the years, Chuck spent many hours working at the church, helping to build it and making repairs, ushering and serving on church council. Chuck worked for Stoddard Electric and eventually became a part-owner of the business. Over the years, he worked on many of the businesses, schools and government buildings in the region. He continued work well past his 80th birthday, because he enjoyed his job and liked to keep busy.
He enjoyed learning new things, particularly about science and history and believed in the power of an education, whether you got it at school or learned through reading.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 55 years Margaret, daughter Beth and granddaughter Alicia, brothers Robert (Fargo ND) and Russ (Othello WA) and sister Joan (Almira, WA) as well as many, many nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday, Feb. 26th, at 11 a.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church in Orofino, and will be followed by a luncheon at the church.
Memorial gifts can be made to Ascension Lutheran Church, 215 115th Street, Orofino, Idaho 83544 or the Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Orofino.

Catherine Mary Wiscarson, 96, formerly of Elk River
Catherine Mary Wiscarson, 96, passed away Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at Clarkston Care Center. She was born March 28, 1914, in Prairie Du Sac, WI., to Richard and Mary Fitzgerald Howlett.
Catherine attended high school in Elk River, graduating in 1933. Later she received her licensed practical nursing degree from St. Joseph Hospital's nursing program in Lewiston.
She married Harry Wiscarson in 1959 in Coeur d'Alene and he preceded her in death.
Catherine moved to Elk River in 1919, where her family built the Elk River Hotel. In 1936, the family moved to Clarkston. It was then that she became an LPN and worked for many of the medical facilities in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley.
In 1969 she moved to Nampa, where she purchased and ran a nursing home until 1980. For the next couple of years she worked in the nursing field in several small communities, Palouse, Elk River and Riggins. In 1982 Catherine moved back to the valley, where she continued working in the medical field until she retired.
Catherine was a communicant of Holy Family Church in Clarkston. She enjoyed crocheting; TV and listening to the late-night radio talk shows.
Surviving Catherine are her two daughters, Shirley Beck of Peteluma, CA and Sharon Castoldi of Worley; one son, Dan Wiscarson of Moscow; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A recitation of the rosary will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, with a celebration of a funeral Mass following at 11 a.m., both at Holy Family Catholic Church in Clarkston.
Memorial contributions may be made in Catherine's memory to either Holy Family Catholic church or school.

William Allen Day, 81, formerly of Orofino
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at Pine Hills Funeral Chapel in Orofino for William Allen Day. A private family burial will be at Orofino's Riverside Cemetery.
He passed away at Safe Haven Care Center in Pocatello Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011.

William Floyd Vargovich, 71, Orofino, passed away at Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011.

William Allen Day, 81, Pocatello, passed away Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011 in Pocatello.

George Raymond Hobson, 92, Weippe, passed away Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 at Clearwater Valley Hospital in Orofino.

Oliver Ulen Bender, 85, Kamiah, passed away in Orofino Friday, Feb. 18, 2011.
Cremation services will be held by Pine Hills Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
Hathaway memorial planned
A potluck memorial/wake has been planned for Jack Hathaway Saturday, Feb. 19, at 1 p.m. at the Shot Glass Bar in Orofino. The Shot Glass is located on Johnson Ave. near Les Schwab Tire.
All are invited, regardless of whether or not they wish to bring something for the potluck.

Eula E. Abbott, 89, born in Orofino
Eula E. Abbott was born Jan. 29, 1922, to Martha and Miles E. Moore in Orofino. She passed away Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011.
She attended Lewiston schools and married Cody Abbott in Post Falls Sept. 6, 1938. They were married for 72 years.
She is survived by her loving husband, Cody; and children, Cody Abbott Jr. and Candy of Seymour, IL, Linda Olmstead and Jerry of Baker City, OR, Brian Abbott and Margi of Arlington, WA, and Martha Ahrens and Ed of Grangeville. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Evelyn Folen and Mabel Henry; and two grandsons.
Eula worked in the box factory at Potlatch during the war years while Cody was serving in the Merchant Marines. She spent most of her years as a loving homemaker, mother and grandmother.
She enjoyed square dancing, round dancing and golf for many years. She sewed many of their dancing costumes for several years during their involvement with the Twin City Twirlers. She enjoyed traveling and camping, including trips to Alaska, Hawaii and Greece, as well as travels across the United States visiting children and grandchildren.
Eula and Cody were officially recognized by Worldwide Marriage Encounter on Feb. 7, for their loving commitment to their marriage as one of the longest-married couples in the country.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens.
Donations in her memory may be made to Northwest Children's Home, 419 22nd Ave., Lewiston, ID 83501.

Velma Joyce Jackson, 67, Orofino, passed away at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2011.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 19, at Pine Hills Funeral Chapel at 10 a.m. with burial at the Sanders Wells Bench Cemetery, Orofino.

Joyce Jackson, 77, Orofino
Our beloved Joyce Jackson of Orofino passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011.
Known as Joyce to many, Mom was always there for her children, grandchildren and neighborhood children with her warm smile, wonderful sense of humor and loving heart.
Joyce loved nature, art, cooking and dancing. She found pleasure in caring for all of God's creatures. She enjoyed bowling, playing Bunco, baseball and volleyball.
Joyce, her husband, Jesse, and three children moved to Orofino in 1971 for the construction of Dworshak Dam. They fell in love with the area and decided to make it their home where they raised their children and made an abundance of lifetime friends.
Joyce is loved and survived by her husband, Jesse Jackson; her children, Kim Skinner of Coeur d'Alene and Jesse Allen of Orofino. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Babette Castillo. She had 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Joyce touched the lives of many and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Her kindred soul will forever live in our hearts.
Services will be conducted by Pastor Dan Vaughn at Pine Hills Funeral Chapel in Orofino on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 10 a.m. A fond farewell will immediately follow at Sanders Cemetery on Lower Wells Bench Rd. All are welcome.
