Louie H. Ogden, 94, Pierce
Louie Harold Ogden passed away on Nov. 7, 2012 in Pierce at the age of 94.
Louie was born on Cream Ridge near Kendrick on May 15, 1918 to Louis Charles and Jessie Pearl (Chapman) Ogden. He was the youngest of four children.
He spent his early years on Gilbert Ridge and attended Gilbert School. The family then moved to Peck where he lived until moving to Pierce in 1965.
Louie enlisted in the military during World War II. He made it through basic training and was headed to his first posting when it was discovered that he had one glass eye (lost in a hunting accident at age 14). When asked how he passed the eye exam during his physical, he said, "I memorized the eye chart." He was a true member of "The Greatest Generation".
After returning home, he worked for numerous logging companies as a bucker. He also kept up the family home in Peck and cared for his mother.
Louie was seriously injured in a logging accident which resulted in a knee replacement and early retirement.
After retirement, he liked to sit on one of the many benches on Main St. and visit with whoever was passing by. He had several nicknames, but his favorite was probably 'Sidewalk Louie'. In his later years, Louie drew a moose tag (first time applying for it) and got one. After he was well into his 80s, he was doing "parts" run for some of the loggers and on his 90th birthday, Louie was given the "key" to the town of Pierce.
Over the last years he had suffered several serious accidents and had his knee replaced again. Since his last fall, he has been cared for by his friend, Tracy.
Louie never married, but was a loving uncle to his niece and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Jessie Ogden; sisters, Iola Ogden, Viola Mahoney; and brother, Ed Ogden; brother-in-law, Owen Mahoney; and sister-in-law, Nina Mae Ogden.
He is survived by his nephew, Ed Ogden, Pierce; niece, Jane Richards, Moyie Springs; great niece, Amanda Richards, Moscow; and great nephew, Andrew Richards, Sidney, MT; and numerous cousins in the Lewiston area. He is also survived by many friends (you know who you are).
As his request, no funeral service will be held. Memories of his life will always be with us.
