Beverly Sage Walling

Beverly Sage Walling, 66, former Pocatello resident, passed away, in Portland, Oregon.

Beverly is the Sister of Jo Ann Hofhine, Pocatello.

Beverly Jean Sage Walling was born September 1, 1947, the second daughter of three Children to Jess W. and Bonnie M. Quigley Sage in Pocatello Idaho.

She passed away February 6, 2014 in Portland, Oregon.

With her beautiful blond hair and big blue eyes, she was the apple of her father’s eye.

She grew up in the Whittier neighborhood where her neighbors included the Warth’s, Groesbeck’s, Kanomato’s, Curtis’s, Esquibel’s, Madrid’s, and many more who all were like family to the Sage’s.

Beverly was baptized at the age of eight and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

She enjoyed attending Primary with her friends. She attended Whittier Elementary, Franklin Jr. High School, and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1965.

When Beverly entered school, her teachers were surprised at how talented she was in Art and her parents said that it just came natural for her.

During the years, she painted and drew many pictures for her family and friends.

Beverly suffered a great loss when her father passed away when she was 12.

Her sister, Jo Ann, was dating Dee Hofhine during that time.

He became her friend and mentor even after they were married.

Beverly looked up to Dee and had great respect for him.

Dee and Jo Ann took Beverly with them to rodeos, drag races and stock car races nearly every week.

Later in life, Dee and Jo Ann would travel to Oregon and visit with Beverly in the spring of each year.

Beverly would have a list of places she wanted to go, whether they were museums, historical sites, the Farmer’s Market, or just shopping.

She said that these were the happiest times of her life.

She was excited to be an aunt to her niece, Lori Hofhine, in 1963. She doted on Lori and spent as much time with her as possible.

After graduation, Beverly enrolled at Idaho State University and also began working at the Barkolow News Stand and lunch counter in the Union Pacific Railroad Depot.

On January 16, 1967 Beverly married Lloyd C. Walling III (Jack) at her mother’s home in Pocatello.

Jack was stationed with the Navy at the INL.

They left soon after for Virginia and later South Carolina where Jack was stationed.

On November 23, 1970, a son, Lloyd C. Walling IV (Kelly) was born.

Beverly and Jack later divorced in 1976.

Beverly received her CNA certification.

She enjoyed taking care of people, whether at Kaiser Hospital in Oregon, or various group homes or assisted living/nursing homes.

She loved yard sales, rainbows, Shalimar perfume, and reading true crime.

The Powell Book Store in Portland was her favorite place to find her books and sit and read.

She told Jo Ann that these were the best books to read and to this day, Jo Ann reads true crime, also.

Beverly is survived by her son, Lloyd (Kelly) Walling IV, Lexington Park, Maryland, sister, Jo Ann Hofhine, Chubbuck, Idaho, brother, Michael Sage, Portland, Oregon, nieces, Lori Green, Kristi Permann, Jessica Sage, nephews, Scott Hofhine, and David Hofhine.

She was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Dee Hofhine, her parents, grandparents, Grandpa and Grandma Sage and Gramps and Granny Quigley, and cousins, Judi and Gail Sage.

"Someday I’ll wish upon a star and wake up where the clouds are far behind me, where troubles melt like lemon drops away above the chimney tops, that’s where you’ll find me, somewhere over the rainbow”.

I love you, Sister! God be with you ‘til we meet again!

Reverend H. Lee Baker
July 21, 1924 - May 8, 2013

"When picking strawberries pick one for the basket and one for yourself."

Reverend Howard Lee Baker passed away shortly after midnight on May 8, 2013 at Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, Idaho.

Lee is survived by his wife Frances and his three children; Kathleen, Kristine and Keith as well as six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Lee was born in Akron, Ohio July 21, 1924 to Howard and Hazel Baker and had a sister Harriet-Ann.

When Lee was 12 and the depression was going strong he got his first job selling magazine subscriptions from his wagon to help support his family.

He graduated from East High School and then joined the Army where he served two years during World War II.

His military time was spent in the Philippines and he served in Japan assisting with the clean up after the drop of the A Bomb.

When he was discharged from the Army, February 20, 1946 he came home and he then attended Kent State University.

He was very active in the swim team for the four years he was there and majored in Commercial Art and Business.

While attending Kent State he worked at B.F. Goodrich and soon met the love of his life Frances Mary Jackson.

They were married on August 19, 1949. During their first years of marriage they had two girls; Kathleen Ann and Kristine Leigh.

Lee worked for Sears and Roebuck to support the family and in 1959 he got a transfer to California and the family relocated to the "Sunshine State".

Soon after the move the third child was born. Lee got his son Keith Allen.

After the children were pretty well grown, Kathleen was married, Kristine getting ready to graduate college and Keith soon to graduate from High School Lee was called to the ministry.

He answered the Lord's call and served several churches in California, Oregon and Idaho.

While he served as a Pastor in the church he was very active with the Walk to Emmaus Community and also served as Chaplin for St. Luke's Hospital in Boise, Idaho as well as Chaplin for the Idaho State Police.

When Pastor Lee "retired" from the ministry he remained active in the First United Methodist Church in Pocatello teaching a Sunday school class.

He loved serving the Lord and helping people above all else.

Pastor Lee's greatest joy was being with and serving his family.

He had many opportunities to do that as he was able to not only baptize five of his grandchildren but he also performed the wedding services for the three oldest, Charlotte, Cassandra and Andrew.

To add even more joy to his life he was able to perform the wedding service for his son Keith.

In doing this each time his heart was filled to overflowing with the joy of having the ability to serve his children.

He lived a long and full life and when asked about his priorities he would tell you his wife was first then his children and the Lord.

He had a great passion for his flowers and making a beautiful home for his family.

He was and artist and loved painting and creating things from wood.

He will be greatly missed by all those that knew him as a man of passion, compassion and boundless love.
