Irene Lorraine Wherley, 63, a long time resident of Hoodoo Valley passed away on Sunday, August 1, 2004 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 7, 2004 at the Seneacquoteen Cemetery. The Rev. Darryn Hewson of the United Methodist Church will be officiating. Afterward a gathering and celebration of her life will be held at her home at 8189 Kelso Lake Road.
Irene was born in Sandpoint on July 6, 1941 to George and Grace Mae Robinson. She attended Sandpoint High School. She married Les Dingus and the couple traveled with a carnival before they settled down in Loon Lake, WA. In 1971 she moved back to Hoodoo Valley where she spent the remainder of her life.
Irene was well known for being a hard worker, dedicated to her family, strong and outgoing. When Irene was a young woman people said that she looked like Sophia Loren, the movie actress. She was a very beautiful and a talented singer. Irene loved flowers, working in her yard, tending to her horses and being with her family.
Irene worked for Stimpson Lumber from 1992 till 2002 when she had to quit due to health problems. Irene will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband Fred Nibarger of Hoodoo Valley; daughter Denie Mae (Mark) Eastman of Hoodoo Valley; grandchildren Tawny Gonzalez of Atlanta, Georgia and Shea McCormick of Sandpoint; step daughters Patricia (William) Graham of Tacoma, WA; Jackie (Doug) Smith of Aberdeen, WA; Leslie (Tim) Schaper of Hoodoo Valley; Debbie Lusk of Summerland Keys, Florida; Robin Bursiek of Springfield, Virginia; and Rickie Barlow of Clayton, North Carolina; two brothers Wes (Judy) Hageman of Cuba, New Mexico; and Richard (Phyllis) Fullen of Walla Walla, Washington; three sisters Marcia Bettinger of Spokane; Theseley Edge of Walla Walla; and Lottie (Lee) Hanson of Walla Walla; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her Mother Grace Mae Robinson, Father George Robinson and her beloved daughter Darlene Marie McCormick.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint. Seneacquoteen Cemetery.

Lillian Marie “Lil” Turner, 77, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at her home on Flume Creek near Sandpoint.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, August 7, 2004 at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint. Burial will follow at Lillian’s home on Flume Creek.
Lil came to play on earth on March 20, 1927. She was delivered into the loving arms of her mom and dad, Effie Inez and Edgar Bryan Turner in Sidney, Nebraska. Their family grew once more with the birth of her sister, Shirley Louise Turner, and later a brother that died at birth.
Lil enjoyed life to the fullest and shared her love and laughter with everyone she knew. She had previously lived in Nebraska, Wyoming, Oregon and Washington, but it was Sandpoint, Idaho she truly called home.
She is survived by her son Alan Krueger of Airway Heights, Washington; daughters Rene Brink of Olympia, Washington; Lynn (Ronnie) Archie of Tacoma, Washington; and Terie (Wally) Dahlgren of Spokane, Washington as well as nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and numerous friends.
She was preceded in death by her mom and dad, infant brother and son-in-law Charles Brink.

Garland Edward Newton, 87, passed away, Tuesday, July 20, 2004 in Sandpoint, Idaho.
A memorial service celebrating Garland’s life will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, July 25, 2004 at the Sandpoint United Methodist Church with the Rev. Darryn J. Hewson officiating. Viewing will take place at the Lakeview Funeral Home between 10:00 am and 1:30 pm on Sunday. Private interment will take place at Pinecrest Cemetery on Monday.
Garland was born July 10, 1917 in Harrison, Idaho to Edwin and Jewel Newton. He grew up and attended schools in Harrison, and graduated from Harrison High School in 1937. He went on to serve in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
On July 29, 1939 he married Christina Baillie in Coeur d’Alene. They lived in Spokane, Washington where Garland worked for Western Pine Lumber Company. He began working for General Telephone Company in 1948. They moved to Sandpoint in 1954 where he worked as a lineman with Elmer ”Nick” Nikkola, primarily in the Hope and Clark Fork communities. Garland retired in 1979. He and his wife bought the first lot in the Moran Addition of Sandpoint and built there home there in 1956.
Garland coached many baseball teams including American Legion, and taught hunter safety for many years. He was a member of the international Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and a life member of Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed many years of annual hunting trips to the St. Joe with his three sons and more recently a grandson. He was an ardent fan of baseball and football.
A faithful and loving husband, Garland is survived by his wife, Christina at the home in Sandpoint. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary next week. He is also survived by three sons and their families Garland L. "Skip" (Helen) Newton of Sandpoint, David (Ann) Newton of Spokane, Washington; and Rod (Kris) Newton of Troy, Montana; 7 cherished grandchildren and 8 beloved great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Don Newton of Coeur d' Alene; Paul Newton of Wenatchee, Washington; sisters Julie Hulbert of Lincoln, Washington; and Pearl Fairchild of Spokane Valley, Washington; as well as many adoring nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

Clyde H. Pearson, 90, of Sagle, Idaho, passed away on Friday, July 2, 2004, in Sandpoint, Idaho. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint. Inurnment will take place at the new Lakeview Cemetery cremation columbarium.
Clyde was born on March 19, 1914 in Caldwell, Idaho to Clarence and Bernice (Cover) Pearson. He grew up and attended schools in the Caldwell area. On March 19, 1937 Clyde married Frances Painter in Homedale, Idaho. The couple had known each other from the time they were small children.
Clyde served his country for a short time in the United States Navy during World War II before being honorably discharged. He returned home and started a farm in Homedale where the family raised chickens to be used as fryers.
In 1952 Clyde went to work for Boeing, where he worked as a machinist, running heavy duty stamps and presses to manufacture parts. The family made their home in Kent, Washington. Clyde retired in 1978 and moved to the Sandpoint area where the family had camped on vacations.
He enjoyed fishing, working, farming, and carpentry. He built the family’s home in Kent.
He is survived by his wife Frances Pearson of Sagle; sons Delbert Pearson of Tumwater, Washington and Bob Pearson of Auburn, Washington.
He was preceded in death by one brother Merle Pearson.

Dorothy Margaret Paulson, 73, passed away, Monday, June 21, 2004 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Graveside memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 24, 2004 at the Lakeview Cemetery with Pastor Jim Osman of the Kootenai Community Church officiating.
Dorothy was born on June 28, 1930 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Mabel and Milard (Siefert) Smith. She grew up and did her schooling in New Orleans. She met and married Ralph Santos in 1949, the couple were later divorced.
Dorothy moved to southern California in 1959. She married Thomas Paulson on November 10, 1965 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple made their home and raised their family in Fallbrook, California.
In 1978 the family moved to Sandpoint. Mr. Paulson passed away in 1996. Dorothy recently moved to Evergreen Assisted living where she enjoyed her many friends and activities.
Dorothy was an extraordinary Cajun cook. She taught her son-in-law Ralph Hefley owner of the Hydra Restaurant many of his great cooking secrets. She enjoyed traveling, crocheting, and spending time with her great grandchildren Max and Grace.
She is survived by her daughters Karen Hefley of Sagle and Carolyn (Paul) Galardo of Ashburn, Virginia; son Paul Paulson of Sandpoint; grandchildren Sean (Michelle) Hefley of Sagle and Eric Hefley of Boise; great grandchildren Maximillen and Grace Hefley of Sagle; nephew Roy English of Springfield, Illinois; and special friends Inez Wood of Sandpoint and Monetta Jackson of Tyler, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Paulson, son-in-Law Ralph Hefley, brother Milard Smith, and sister Carolyn English.

David R. Dorval, 41, passed away, Sunday, June 13, 2004, in Sandpoint. An informal memorial will be held at Sam Owen State Park on the Hope Peninsula at the Pavilion Picnic Area, Saturday June 19th beginning at 1:00 pm. We will gather to celebrate Dave’s life and to share our precious memories of him.
Dave was born on December 14, 1962, in Orange, NJ to Dee and Karen Dorval. Dave and his family moved to Oregon in 1965; he spent his childhood there, Alaska and California. He made Idaho his home in 1990. In 1994 he met and later married Patti Holt in Sandpoint.
A master carpenter, Dave worked for many years for McMahon & Easterbrook Custom Building, working primarily in the Hope area for his good friend & mentor Dan McMahon.
Dave enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing and horseback riding with his family and friends. He was most happy when he was outdoors. He will be greatly missed for his terrific sense of humor and his uncanny ability to write his own version of lyrics to just about any song.
He is survived by his mother Karen (Larry) Olson of Sandpoint; wife Patti Dorval and children Gabrielle, Lizzie and Logan Dorval of Sandpoint; brother Brian (Lana) Dorval of Sandpoint; sister Renee Dorval of Vancouver, Washington; uncle Bill Knieps of Petroskey, Michigan; nieces Tawnya, Michelle, Nicole & Sierra Dorval of Sandpoint and Boise; mother-in-law Pat Holt of Sandpoint; and special grandmother Evy Moore of Laclede.
He is preceded in death by his father Dee Dorval.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. An account has been established at Horizon Credit Union.
