Fern L. Greenfield

MT. MORRIS — Fern L. Greenfield, 87, of Mt. Morris, formerly of Ashton, died Saturday morning at KSB Hospital in Dixon after a long illness. She was a retired homemaker who had helped her husband on the family farm and had worked at Crest Foods, Ashton, for about 14 years until 1980.
She was born April 27, 1917 in rural Dixon, the daughter of Abraham and Ada Miller. On Nov. 4, 1943 she married Robert E. Greenfield in Dixon. He died April 19, 1991. She was a member of the Ashton Bible Church where she was very active until moving to Mt. Morris and was a member of Women of the Moose, Mt. Morris Lodge.
Her survivors include a daughter, Peggy (Dr. John IV) Coon, Oak Park; a son, Don (Judy) Greenfield, Savanna; two brothers, George (Norma) Miller, Rochelle and Bob (Stella) Miller, Dixon; one sister, Carol (Robert) Troxell of Harmon; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Her husband, four brothers, Emmett, Ray, Earl, and Clifford and three sisters June, Ruby, and Marian preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3 at Lyons Cluts-Simes Funeral Home, Main and Richardson, Ashton. Interment followed in Ashton Cemetery. Visitation was held at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for the Pinecrest Manor, Good Samaritan Fund, Mt. Morris.

DeAnna M. Ramsey

FRANKLIN GROVE — DeAnna M. Ramsey, 38, of Franklin Grove, died in an auto accident on Oct. 31, 2004.
Dee was born June 6, 1966 in Ottawa, the daughter of Lois (Johnson) and Howard Mayes. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ashton.
Her survivors include her mother Lois (Mike) Burke, Rochelle, father Howard (Carletta) Mayes, Campbellsville, Ken., four children; son Trevor Ramsey, three daughters Ashely, Chante and Kelsey all of Franklin Grove; grandmother, Mary Frank Mayes, Campbellsville, Ken. Brother Howard Keith Mayes, Lebanon, Ken, one half brother, Willliam Howard Mayes, Wyanet, one half sister, Amanda Mayes, Wyanet and many aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her other grandparents.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004 at Lyons Cluts-Simes Funeral Home, Main and Richardson, Ashton, with Rev. Dana LaBerge, Pastor of First Baptist Church, Ashton, officiating. Interment at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Rochelle. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 3.
A memorial has been established for the Dee Ramsey Memorial Fund, for her children.

Wilma Shoemaker

ROCKFORD — Wilma Shoemaker, 78, of Glendale, Ariz., and a former Rockford resident, died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, in her home.
She was born Oct. 30, 1925, in Dixon, the daughter of Herman and Avis (March) Haenitsch. Wilma married Harold B. Shoemaker on June 14, 1943, in Dixon; he died July 4, 2003, in Casa Grande, Ariz. She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Rockford.
Survivors include sons, Robert D. Shoemaker of Rockford and Steven H. Shoemaker of Glendale; grandson, Ryan of Rockford; sisters, Lucille Black of Oregon and Alice Sword of Ashton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; son, Larry; and two brothers.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, in Fred C. Olson Funeral Chapels Ltd., East Chapel, 1001 Second Avenue, with the Rev. Donald Lavelle officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, in the funeral home.
Memorials to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Susan E. Locke

Ashton – Susan E. Locke, SPC/E-4 – U.S. Army, 21, formerly of Clio, Mich., died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004 near Chana, as a result of an automobile accident.
She was born June 26, 1983 in Flint, Mich., the daughter of Michael and Natalie (Bruce) Locke.
She had resided in the Clio, Mich. area since 1997 and graduated from Clio High School in 2001. Susan was an active member of the U.S. Army having just completed a 1 1/2 year tour of duty in Iraq. She enjoyed poetry and loved to draw. Susan was a beautiful person inside and out. She lived life to the fullest with the bravery of a hero, the courage of a soldier, the love of a sister and the heart of a mother. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her father Michael Locke in 1996.
She is
survived by her parents, Natalie and Brian Ewers, of Clio, Mich.; her fiancι, Richard Edlund, of Ashton; brothers, David, James, and Casey Ewers, and sisters, Crystal Locke-Rasmussen and Elisha Ewers, all of Clio, Mich.; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 South Seventh Street, Oregon, with the Chaplain of the 303rd Battalion, U.S. Army, officiating.
Visitation was held from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m., Friday evening at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Robert Edson Brachle

SARASOTA, Fla. — Robert Edson Brachle, 70, of Sarasota, Fla., died Feb. 15, 2004, from cancer.
He was born Dec. 21, 1933 in Ashton, the son of Esther and Edward Brachle. He moved to Sarasota, Fla., in November 1966.
He retired from Goff Communications in Sarasota in 1991 after 25 years.
He was a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 84, the Sarasota City Commission for Citizens with Disabilities, and the Arlington Park Neighborhood Association.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn E. Brachle; daughter, Hope F. Brachle; son, Joseph P. Brachle; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m., Dec. 29 in the Fellowship of Believers, 3333 12th Street, Sarasota, Fla. Memorials may be made to the All Faiths Food Bank, 717 Cattleman Road, Sarasota, Fla., 34232. The National Cremation Society, of Sarasota, Fla., handled the arrangements.

Lisa J. Kennay

BYRON — Lisa J. Kennay, 22, of Byron, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005 in Seward Township from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born March 7, 1982 in Rockford, the daughter of Donald L. and Julie Albright Kennay.
She was a member of the Class of 2000 of Byron High School, attended Eureka College and was presently employed at AmCore Bank, Rockford.
She loved animals, especially her dog, Tapper and cat, Noelle. She loved life, was always smiling, and her smile made everyone smile.
She is survived by her mother, Julie (Robert) Bunger, of Winnebago; father, Donald (Anna) Kennay, of Ashton; brothers, Jason Kennay, of Normal, Jonathan Bunger and Robbie Bunger, both of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Wes Krueger, of Polo; grandmother, Dorothy Albright, of Byron; grandfather, Donald D. Kennay, of Ashton; great grandmother, Jean Bunger, of Ashton; boyfriend, Brian Lane and his son, Matt, of Durand; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins; and many, many friends.
She was preceded in death by grandparents, Rita Kennay, Bob Albright and Edwin and Vivian Bunger.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, March 3, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the United Church of Byron, Second and Colfax, with Dr. Robert Summers, pastor, officiating.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2005 from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. in the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 506 West Merchant Street, Byron.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Margaret P. Cowdin

FRANKLIN GROVE — Margaret P. Cowdin, 85, formerly of Des Moines, Iowa, and Tacoma, Wash., died Tuesday in Franklin Grove Nursing Center.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Jones Funeral Home, 240 South Ottawa Avenue, Dixon, where friends were invited to call from 10 a.m. to service time. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.

Edith May Craig Bunger

FRANKLIN GROVE — Edith May Craig Bunger, 90, of Franklin Grove, formerly of Arizona for 26 years and Rochelle, passed away suddenly on Feb. 24, 2005 at St. Anthony Hospital, Rockford. Edith was a former owner of Bunger Electrical Service in Rochelle.
Born July 11, 1914 in Lee Center, she was the daughter of Fred and Ethel Craig. She married Alfred Bunger on Dec. 31, 1936.
Edith is survived by three sisters, Erdeana Tompkins, of Franklin Grove, Carrie McCarter, of Pennsylvania, and Ethel Gallisapth, of Rockford; and one brother, Fred (Katie) Craig, of Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred; one sister, Emma Laws; and one brother, Daniel Craig.
Funeral services will be private. Arrangements were made by Coulon-Lyons Family Funeral Home, Ashton.
A memorial has been established.

Geraldine Hart

ROCHELLE — Geraldine “Gerry” Hart, 72, rural Rochelle, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, at Bernard Hospital, University of Chicago.
She was a mother, grandmother, homemaker, helped on the family farm and taught briefly before her marriage. In 1984 she was diagnosed with primary pulmonary hypertension, an incurable lung disease that eventually claimed her life. Her love of God was her strength and she prayed each day that she be able to see her family grow up.
She was born Aug. 23, 1932 in Elgin, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Umdenstock) Dumoulin. On March 19, 1955 she married Robert C. Hart in Hampshire. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, were she sang alto in the church choir. She studied piano for many years as a young girl and played the organ in church during her high school years. She and her husband were often asked to provide music at weddings, funerals and in later years in numerous retirement and nursing homes. She also found time to follow her interest in quilt making, gardening, cooking and music. Her devotion and her family were her inspiration in her final years.
Her survivors include her husband, Robert C. Hart, of Rochelle; one daughter, Susan Hart, of Libertyville; four sons, Brian (Crissy) Hart, of Malta, Rob (Diane) Hart, of Monroe Center, David (Stephanie) Hart, of Atlanta Ga., and Jonathan Hart, of Portland Ore.; two brothers, Carl Umdenstock and William (Patricia) Umdenstock, both of Hampshire; six grandchildren, Jeremy Hart, Kyle Hart, Rachel Hart, Alex Politakis, Andrew Hart and Abby Hart; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mass of Christian burial at noon, Friday Nov. 12, at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Kelley Drive and Caron Road with Reverend David Peck as celebrant. Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 11, at Lyons Cluts-Simes Funeral Home, 704 North Sixth Street, Rochelle, and at church for one hour prior to mass with a wake service at 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment was held at St. Patrick Cemetery, Rochelle.
A memorial has been established.
