Leota Watson, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of West Frankfort, died 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 20, at her residence.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort.
GERVAINE WILFRED STEWART KILLGROVE
Mulkeytown - Gervaine Wilfred Stewart "Scotty" Killgrove, 86, died at his home at 7:40 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, in the Gilbert Funeral Home, Christopher, with the Rev. Gene Fox officiating. Burial will be in the Mulkeytown Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Saturday to the funeral home.
Mr. Killgrove was born on Sept. 8, 1915, in Percy, the son of Frank and Lena (Stewart) Killgrove. He was married to Rasie (Hicks) Killgrove. She survives.
He was retired from Evans Plumbing and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Terry and wife Brenda Killgrove of Mulkeytown, Jack Killgrove of Lady Lake, Fla.; one daughter, Marilyn McCutcheon of Mt. Vernon; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; one sister, Claudine Radier of Percy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Geraldine Jones.
CHARLES M. HARGRAVES
Zeigler - Charles M. Hargraves, 67, died at 7:53 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at Herrin Hospital.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, 2001 at Vantrease Funeral Home. Burial was in Miners Cemetery with military rites by the Zeigler American Legion.
Mr. Hargraves was born Oct. 16, 1933, in Sims, to George A. and Della Elizabeth (Thomason) Hargraves. He married Judith E. Tulo on Sept. 13, 1958, in Zeigler. She survives there.
He was a retired laborer and a member of the Laborer's International Union of North America, Local Union 529. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, and was of the Protestant faith.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Chuck Hargraves and Vickie King of Royalton, Joe and Lori Hargraves of Mulkeytown, Richard and Ramona Hargraves of Zeigler; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Randy Baggett of Royalton; Joey, Megan and Tara Hargraves, all of Mulkeytown, Randi, Kelli and Casey Baggett, all of Royalton, Riane and Bradford Hargraves, all of Zeigler and Jamie Hargraves of Royalton; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Marla Hargraves of Fairfield; four sisters, Georgia Moore of Macedonia, Sue Hargraves, Alma Riley and Ella Francis Jones, all of Christopher. He was preceded in death by his parents.
HUGH HOWE
Marion - Hugh Howe, 87, died at 12:15 a.m. on August 24, 2001, in her home.
Graveside services will be in St. Andrew's Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Jack Wolfe officiating. There will be no visitation. Those attending are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Mrs. Howe was born on Nov. 3, 1913, the daughter of Henderson and Addie (Cavinder) Henson. She married Wilburn Howe in 1934 and he died April 27, 1973. She graduated from the Valier Community High School in 1932. She was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include three nephews William A. Henson of Marion, Fern and Kim Henson, Muncie, Ind., Rick Stewart of Kenner, La.; two nieces, Kathryn and Don Rogers, Breward, North Carolina, Denise Henson Bovyn of Balwin, Mo; six great nieces and four great-nephews; three great-great- nieces of two great-great-nephews; a brother William A. and wife Dolores Henson of Marion; a sister, Virginia Jane Vogel of Breward, N.C.
Her parents, one infant brother, Ray, one infant sister, Justine preceded her in death.
MABEL M. HAILS
Mt. Vernon - Mable M. Hails died at 6:47 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27 at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix with the Rev. Gale Breeze. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hails was born in Rome Township in Jefferson County on April 26, 1919, the daughter of Charles Oliver "Ollie" Sargent and Ethel Piercy Sargent. She married Russell C. Hails on Feb. 24, 1940 and he preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 1998.
Mrs. Mooney Grade School, Dix High School and Mt. Vernon Township High School.
She was retired from Murray Center in Centralia and was a volunteer with Good Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary and the Bargain Box.
Mrs. Hails is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Joyce Hails, Bluford; one daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Ann and Tom Davis, Benton; grandchildren Lori Jones and husband, Wayne, Bluford, Kirk Hails and wife Kamla, Bluford, Cassey Hails, Bluford, Jeffrey Davis and fiancee, Niki Moore Carbondale and Matthew Davis and wife, Robin, Benton; great-grandchildren Aubreylee Jones, Garrett Jones, Alyssa Hails, all of Bluford and Darren Cook, Benton; and one sister, Thelma Thornton, Dix.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one granddaughter, Mahalia Jones, three brothers Gene Sargent, Bill Sargent and Stanley Sargent.
LYNDA SIMMONS CROWELL
Paradise Valley, Arizona - Lynda Simmons Crowell passed away at home with family afer a six-month struggle with recurrent non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. This followed a durable remission from chemotherrapy when originally diagnosed in 1997. She is survived by her husband John, of Paradise Valley, and daughters October of Denver, CO and April of New York, NY.
Lynda was born July 19, 1941, in Alton. She graduated from Barnes-Washington University School of Nursing in St. Louis, MO in 1962, and returned to teach pediatric nursing there in 1964. Barnes honored her as outstanding alumnus in 1997. She also helped develop neonatal ICU units at Los Angeles Children's Hospital in 1966 and at the University of Utah in 1967. After earning a BS in nursing at the University of Iowa in 1970, she taught pediatric nursing there.
While her first priority has always been her children and family, she found time to be an international buyer for UNICEF, serve on a mayor's task force for district government (along with now Senator John Kyl among others) and be instrumental in organizing men's and women's national tennis tournaments played in Phoenix. In the early 80's she became a certified travel consultant specializing in international travel and group travel. This led to her involvement in developing Kenya Medical Missions, which each year to the present coordinates a village development project in conjunction with the Methodist Church and the Kenyan Government in east Africa.
In recent years she has been active in Business and Professional Women's Organization, serving as state president in 1993-94 and being honored as Woman of the Year in 1993. She was a non-governmental organization delegate to the 4th World Conference on Women in Beijing, China in 1995. Even after her diagnosis with cancer she served on the Maricopa County Board of Health and was president until recently.
She was the current president of the Maricope County Medical Society alliance. Having been a productive advocate of women's rights, children's issues, good health care, good govenment and peace all her life, she will be missed by her family, friends and business associates. Her mother, Opal Simmons, preceded her in death. Surviving members of her family are her father, E.W. Simmons, stepmother, Pauline and sisters, Myrna, Joy and Mary Nell, stepbrother David Wright and their families who live in the Midwest.
Visitation will be held at Whitney and Murphy Arcadia Funeral Home 4800 E. Indian School Rd., Phoenix, on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001 from 5-9 p.m. A remembrance service will be held at Paradise Valley United Methodist Church at 4455 E. Lincoln Dr. at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001.
LILLY H. WEBB
Christopher - Lilly H. Webb, 81, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, in her home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton, with Pastor W. Lee Grady officiating. There will be no visitation. Friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton, is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Webb was born July 6, 1920, in Slazia, Germany, the daughter of John and Marta (Krause) Sclamm. She married Darwin Webb on Oct. 21, 1948 and he survives.
She was a homemaker and the owner and operator of Webb's Pizza, Christopher. She was a member of the West Frankfort Seventh Day Adventist Church.
In addition to her husband Darwin, she is survived by four sons, Frederick Webb, Christoher, Norman Webb, West Frankfort, Vernon Webb, Benton, Kenneth Webb, Benton; a daughter, Susie Bacon, Mulkeytown, fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Webb was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Helmuth and Karl Sclamm, a sister, Erma Henshka, and a granddaughter, April Ann Bacon.
SHARON MARIE LEFFLER
Angleton, TX - Sharon Marie Leffler, 54, of Angleton, departed this life Oct. 31, 2001 at 3 p.m. after a lengthy battle with melanoma cancer.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Anne Barnouski.
She is survived by her father, Frank Barnouski Sr., husband Gregory Leffler, daughter, Leise Morhet and son-in-law, Ashton Lejeune, son, Eric Morhet and daughter-in-law, Shirley Morhet, one stepson Gregory Leffler Jr. and daughter-in-law, Tina Leffler; two brothers, Frank Barnouski Jr., and Anthony Barnouski, two sisters, Rosemary Stiebler and Theresa Parks, four granddaughters, three grandsons and one great-grandson.
Services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Forest Park East Funeral Home in Webster, Texas. Interment will follow in the Forest Park East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center at 1515 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, Texas. 77030-4009.
Curt H. Davis
Marion - Curt H. Davis, age 65 years, of Marion, Illinois, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, on Sunday, October 28th at St. John's Hospital in Springfield. Curt was born September 21st, 1936, in Rinard, Illinois, to Harold and Claribelle (Hoselton) Davis.
He married his high school sweetheart, Nancy (Wieldt) Davis, in 1955, at St. Stephen's Parrish in Flora, Illinois. Nancy owns and operates Collector's Choice and Court Street Tea Room in Marion. She survives.
Other survivors include his mother; Claribelle Davis of Morton, Illinois; brother, Larry Davis of Woodridge, Illinois; two sisters, Marge Hall of Morton and Sandra Welch of Coconut City, Florida; three daughters and one son-in-law, Rebecca L. Davis of Carbondale, Patricia A. Davis of West Frankfort, Lisa and Mike Putman of Sullivan, Missouri; two sons and two daughters-in-law, C.Tony and Becky J. Davis of Marion, and John and Crystal Davis of Germantown, Tennessee.
Curt extremely enjoyed his twelve grandchildren; Lance Lyell and his wife, Renee, of Marion, Chevonne Walters and her husband, Joseph, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Blake Jones of Carbondale, Christin Cobe of Houston, Texas, Mark, Rick, and Marissa Davis of Marion, James and Christopher Putman of Sullivan, Missouri, Ashtyn Davis of Germantown, Tennessee, Kiana and Jack Sopkowski of West Frankfort; and his two great grandchildren, Helen and Ali Jane Walters of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Curt was preceded in death by his father, Harold "Bill" Davis; sister, Shirley Hosselton; infant sister, Christine Davis; and infant brother, Jimmy Davis.
Curt served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6210, President of the Southern Illinois Claim Adjusters Association, Board Member of the Williamson County Fair Board, founding Board Member of the Illinois State Racking Horse Association, Arbitrator on the Mt. Vernon Arbitration Board, Member of the Illinois Technical Accident Investigators, National Association of Investigative Specialists, Illinois Association of Arson Investigators, and National Association of Independent Insurance Adjusters.
Curt was raised to know hard work and he passed this knowledge on to his family. Curt worked beside his father, Harold and his brother, Larry, in the family business, Davis & Son's Trucking Company, of Rinard, Illinois, while also working on the family farm. After graduating from Flora High School, he spent a summer in St. Charles, Illinois, as an apprentice cabinetmaker.
He also worked as a "roughneck" on oilrigs in Wayne and Clay County, Illinois. He worked as a truck driver for a trucking company on the construction of Illinois Toll way I-294. Curt owned and operated a mobile feed mill in Wayne County, Illinois. In 1964, he relocated his family to the City of Marion where he began work with Farm Bureau, now known as Country Companies as an insurance claim adjuster. He later worked as a claim adjuster and claim manager for American States Insurance Company and in 1978 started his own independent claim adjustment company, Davco Investigation & Adjustment Company, now known as Davco Claims Services.
Curt had a passion for horses and passed this on to his family. Curt was as successful with his hobbies as he was with his work. He owned and raised several World Champion Racking Horses and Colts. He exhibited the horses himself along with his wife, children and grandchildren. Through Curt's guidance and excellent teaching ability, his daughter Lisa and son John became World Champion Juvenile Exhibitors. Curt enjoyed trail riding and rode the Sikeston Rodeo Trial Ride several times. He later developed his love for horses to include buggy horses and restoration of classic horse drawn buggies, wagons, carriages and even a winter sleigh. He often donated free horse drawn carriage rides at local community events, including chauffeuring Santa and Mrs. Clause to the town square with jingle bells on the horse.
Curt had a love of history and a deep appreciation for antiques and the stories, which lay behind them. He and his wife Nancy enjoyed finding antiques, which reminded them of ancestors and the way things used to be done. He encouraged his wife, Nancy, to fulfill her dream of opening an antique and collectible business after the children had been raised.
Curt had a deep patriotism for his homeland and passed this on to his family. His son Tony served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. DAVIS DD-937. His granddaughter Chevonne served in the U.S. Air Force with her husband Joe Walters who is currently serving in Operation Enduring Freedom in the Middle East at this time.
Curt enjoyed a good story and was a very good storyteller. His diverse background in life and the many friends he met along the way at the coffee shops and diners across the heartland gave him a virtual library of interesting and funny stories to share with everyone. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Prayer services will be held Friday, November 2nd at 4:30 p.m. followed by visitation from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court St., of Marion, Illinois.
The funeral service for Curt H. Davis will be held Saturday, November 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, located at 600 N. Russell St., with Rev. Father Richard G. Mohr officiating. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery of Marion.

Ina - Allen "Short" Joy, 81, died at 12:31 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan RHC in Mt. Vernon.
Arrangements are pending at the Johnston Funeral Home in Ina.
SYLVIA BEBOUT
Rosiclare - Services for Sylvia Bebout, 68, formerly of Rosiclare, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Hosick Funeral Home in Rosiclare. The Rev. Jack Oglesby officiated. Burial was in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Elizabethtown.
Mrs. Beboout died at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Carbondale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rosiclare.
Surviving is her father, Elmer Spear of Rosiclare; four sons, Elmer Tucker of Clinton, Iowa, Gordon Bebout of Buckner, Harold Bebout of Harrisburg. and Lewis Bebout of Pinckneyville; four daughters, Carolyn Norris of Morganfield, Ky., Linda Beers of Johnston City, Thelma Jackson of Rosiclaire, and Patty Wegener of Apple Valley, Minn; 22 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, Wayne Myrick and Drue Bebout; her mother, Annie Smith, one daughter, Mary Ann Tucker and one grandson.
