GEORGE G. PERPITCH
Brandon, Fla. - George G. Perpitch, 101, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, in his apartment in Brandon, Fla.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at the Maple Hill Cemetery, Sesser, with the Rev. Larry Clyatt officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton.
Mr. Perpitch was born Dec. 25, 1901,in Creve Put, Croatia, the son of Simon Prpic and Lucy (Krmpotich) Prpic. He married Anne Pivour, and she preceded him in death. He later married Albina Perpitch, and she preceded him in death.
He operated a gasoline station and auto repair shop.
Mr. Perpitch is survived by nieces, Martha Prpich, Brandon, Fla., Eva Dun, St. Louis, Mo., Shirley Schultz, Belleville, Linda Johnston, Edmond, Okla., and Mary Ann Garwood, Phoenix, Ariz.; nephews, Samuel Lee Perpitch, St. Joseph, Mo., and Art Garwood and Thomas Garwood, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; and a very dear cousin, Rose Fladeland, Wichita, Ks.,
Mr. Perpitch was preceded in death by his parents, wives, a brother, Samuel Perpitch, two sisters, Rose Garwood and Mary Prpich, and a nephew, John Michael Prpich.

EFFIE KNACK
Benton - Effie Knack, 92, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at her home.
She was born in Franklin County on Sept. 26, 1911, the daughter of the Rev. Charles Edgar and Lillie (Learned) King.
She married Ernest Fredrick Knack in February 1949 and he preceded her in death in November 1976.
Mrs. Knack is survived by one nephew, William E. Glenn, Florissant, Mo.; four nieces, Jean Kribs, Edwardville, Ill., Loleta Nagy, Sullivan, Patricia Bergen, Edwardsville, Peggy Brooks, Nashville, Tenn.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mrs. Knack was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, Dannie King, and by four sisters, Goldia Glenn, Pearl Yurko, Hattie Cooper and Lydia Mezo.
Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Morton and Johnston Funeral Home in Benton. Graveside services will be at approximately 10:45 a.m. at the Busby Chapel Cemetery in Goreville with Dr. Ron Ferguson officiating.
MARY DIANNE VERCELLINO SAPIA
Plantation, Fla. - Mary Dianne Vercellino Sapia, 62, formerly of Valier, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Jackson Memorial Hospital of Miami, Fla.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sapia will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at Valier First Baptist Church with the Rev. Harl Ray Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher is handling the arrangements.
Mrs. Sapia was born March 13, 1941, in Valier, the daughter of Barney Vercellino and Palma (Chabloz) Ronchetto. She married Ralph Sapia.
Mrs. Sapia was a bookkeeper.
She was a past member of the Valier First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Sapia is survived by her husband, Ralph; mother Palma Ronchetto, Valier; children, Ronald Phillips, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Brian Wayne Phillips, Rockford; grandchildren, Robert Phillips, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Sara Ziesman, Air Force, Japan; great-grandchild, Alexandra Ziesman; sister, Julie "Dolly" Recht, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and three nieces and nephews, Eric Recht, Christopher Recht and Pamela Recht.
KENNETH W. COCKRUM
Sesser - Kenneth W. Cockrum, 87, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, in the Frankfort Care Center in West Frankfort.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 1 p.m. in the First Methodist Church, Sesser, with the Revs. Jack Wolfe and David Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30 at the church. Memorials may be made to the Methodist Church in Sesser, or to the Rend Lake College Foundation.
The Poulson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Cockrum was born on Aug. 31, 1916, the son of Claude J. and Ethel (Sulser) Cockrum. He married Jackie (Van Hoorebeke) Cockrum. She survives.
He was the owner and operator of Sesser Grain Company for many years.
A member of the original Board of RLCD, he played a major role in getting Rend Lake and is responsible for Route 154 across Rend Lake. He was a former Franklin County board member, had been involved in Democrat politics as a precinct committeeman for Goode Township and was the first organizer of the Sesser Homecoming.
He was a veteran of the Merchant Marines during World War II and was a member of the Methodist Church in Sesser.
In addition to his wife, Jackie, he is survived by one son, Terry Cockrum and wife Penry of Benton; grandchildren, Chris Cockrum and wife Lee of Columbia, Md.; Craig Cockrum and wife Franciska of Baumholder, Germany, Vickie Cockrum, Des Moines, Iowa; Steffaney Seagle, Sycamore; Jennifer Pyle and husband Brian of Des Moines, and Jeffrey Seagle, Bridgeton, Mo.; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Howard and Opal Cockrum and one infant sister.
EDDIE RICE
Latta, S.C. - Eddie Rice, 69, of Latta, S.C., died Sept. 21, 2003, at the Medical University of South Carolina.
Funeral services were held Sept. 24 in the high school gymnasium with burial in Magnolia Cemetery directed by the Cooper Funeral Home. Visitation was in the Eddie Rice Gym.
Eddie was the son of the late Earl "Pelo" and Anna Rice of Benton. He received his college degree from Erskine College and spent his entire coaching career of 30 years at the Latta High School. During his time, his teams won state championships and set and broke many state records. He served as Vice President and was on the Board of the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association, received Distinguished Service Awards and Coach of the Year.
He was a member of the Latta Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dollie Stone Rice of Latta; two daughters, Mrs. Richard Morrell (Dollie Rice) of Latta and Mrs. Richard Scott (Margaret Rice) of Pawleys Island; and two grandsons, Austin Richard and Chandler Rice of Morrell.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Ronald L. Rice.
The family has asked for memorials to be sent to the Eddie Rice Athletic Scholarship Fund at Latta High School, 618 North Richardson St., Latta, SC 29565.
MARGARET ANN ELLIOTT LITTLE
Sesser - Margaret Ann Elliott Little, 72, Sesser, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, in the Country Side Manor, Mt. Vernon.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, in the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home, with Brother Woody Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Sesser. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, until time of service to the funeral home.
Mrs. Little was born on Feb. 26, 1931, in Paducah, Ky, the daughter of Stanley Thearon and Eva Pearl Elliott.
She married James E. Little on March 30, 1952, and he survives.
She had worked at Lynn Gai Garment Factory for 30 years and also the Custard Stand in Sesser.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sesser.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Linda and husband Pete Rone of Sesser, Lisa and husband Alan Dunn, of Pinckneyville, Carrie and Myron McCowen of Scheller; sons Mark and wife Julie Little of Coshocton, Ohio, Tracy and Lori Little of Benton, stepson Mike Little of Brookport; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren two sisters, Dorothy Carlson of Georgia, Charlotte Stuart of Colorado; special nieces, Sandy Martinez, Carol Kimbrel and Emily Gilbert.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Harriett Freidlane and one brother, Bill Elliott.
MARTIN PINK JR.
Addison - Funeral services for Martin Pink Jr., 81, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29 at Humes Funeral Home. Burial will be in Irving Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
He died Sept. 25, 2003 in Elmhurst Hospital.
Mr. Pink was a foreman with a steel company.
He was a Navy veteran, having served in World War II.
Mr. Pink is survived by his wife, LaVola, of Addison; daughter, Deborah (Robert) Villanueva; son, Daryl (Lisa) Pink; grandchildren, Lauren and Jenna; sisters Laverne and Delores; brothers Lawrence and George; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward.
STELLA MAE LAWSON
Christopher - Stella Mae Lawson, 70, passed away at 7:07 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
She was born on March 31,1933, in Royalton, the daughter of Ernie and Hazel (Glisson) Norman.
Ms. Lawson was a Christian.
She is survived by a daughter, Teresa Provenzano of Florida; a son, James Lawson of California; two grandsons, Samuel Evans of Florida and Richad McGinn of Rhode Island; a sister, Vivian Janello of Christopher; and three brothers, Jim Norman of Carterville, Ferrell Norman of Royalton, and Oscar Lansford of Buckner.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside services were held at the Harrison Cemetery in Buckner with Bob Furlow officiating. The Gilbert Funeral Home of Christopher was in charge of arrangements.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorials to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
MARY M. STRITZEL
Coello - Mary M. Stritzel, 82, died at 10:35 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at the Herrin Memorial Hospital.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Coello Missionary Baptist Church, with Brother Perry Musgraves and Glenn Poshard officiating. Burial will be in the Zeigler Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Friday to the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher, and after 10 a.m. Saturday until time of service at the church.
Mrs. Stritzel was born on Oct. 26, 1920, in Herrin, the daughter of Joseph and Sarah ((Worley) Howell. She was married to Adolph (Speed) Stritzel. He preceded her in death.
She had been a member of the Coello Missionary Baptist Church since 1949. She was a member of Senior Citizens, Women's Club and Democrat Ladies.
Survivors include one son, Ron Stritzel of Coello; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one sister, Beulah Hooper of Johnston City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Don Stritzel, two daughters, Linda Joiner and Sharon Kay, five brothers and three sisters.
