ROBERT 'BOB' CHARLES FRANK

Christopher - Robert "Bob" Charles Frank, 81, of Christopher died at 11 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2004, in the Frankfort Care Center in West Frankfort.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 30, at the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Sesser. Friends may call to the funeral home after 5 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. on Friday until time of the service. Memorials to the family will be accepted at the funeral home.

He was born June 22, 1922, in Antigo, Wis.

MABEL MAGGARD

Chatsworth - Mabel Maggard, 93, of Chatsworth died at 12:06 p.m. Monday, April 26, 2004, at her residence in Chatsworth.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 30, at Faith Fellowship Church in Fairbury, with the Rev. Kim Ernst officiating.

Burial will be in Avoca Township Cemetery in Fairbury.

Friends may call to Faith Fellowship Church from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday.

Duffy-Pils Memorial Home in Fairbury is handling the arrangements.

The family will accept flowers or contributions to the charity of their choice.

She was born Dec. 3, 1910, the daughter of James Farmer and Dora (Little) Farmer, in Harlan County, Ky.

She was a homemaker and attended Faith Fellowship Church in Fairbury.

Survivors include two daughters, Lillie and husband, Ronnie, Howard of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Jennifer and husband, Kim, Ernst of Chatsworth; one son, Gerald and wife, Sue, Gambrel of London, Ky.; eight grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Daniel, seven brothers, and two grandchildren.

JAMES 'J.W.' ROBERTS

Formerly Christopher - James "J.W." Roberts, 55, of Royalton and formerly of Christopher, died at 9:23 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2004, in the Franklin Hospital Emergency Room in Benton.

Services will be held at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28, at Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher. Burial will be at a later date.

Friends may call to Gilbert Funeral Home from 6 p.m. on Wednesday until time of the service.

Mr. Roberts was born July 10, 1948, the son of James Roberts and Marie (Demaret) Roberts Kieffer.

Mr. Roberts was a construction worker, an Army veteran and of the Catholic faith. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Order of Purple Heart and Biloxi Vietnam Veterans.

Survivors include his mother; a daughter, Leslie Ann, of Eldorado; and one sister, LeeAnn Wyskiver of Temcula, Calif. His father and one brother, John Roberts, preceded him in death.

YOLANDA 'YO' ROSE WINEMILLER

Benton - Yolanda "Yo" Rose Winemiller, 73, of Benton died Thursday, April 22, 2004, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Arrangements are pending at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton.

RICKY JAMES OATHOUT

Land O' Lakes, Fla. - Ricky James Oathout, 45, of Land O' Lakes, Fla., died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, April 25, 2004, in Land O' Lakes.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 2, at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton, with the Rev. Larry D. Clyatt officiating. Burial will be in the Flint Cemetery, Belle Rive, Ill. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Oathout was born Nov. 12, 1958, in Manteno, the son of James Melvin and Sue (Duckworth) Oathout.

He was a graphic artist in Land O' Lakes, Fla.

He is survived by a daughter, Bridget Grant and husband Sergio, Vandalia, Ohio; two grandsons, Ryan and Troy Grant, both of Vandalia, Ohio; and his mother, Sue Oathout, Land O' Lakes, Fla.

Mr. Oathout was preceded in death by his father.

MARY ITALENA LAYMAN BURGER

Formerly of Benton - Mary Italene Layman Burger, 86, of Daytona Beach, Fla., and formerly of McLeansboro and Benton, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 3, at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Du Quoin, with the Rev. Larry Schutt officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Du Quoin.

Local arrangements are being handled by Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.

Mary was born Nov. 14, 1917, in Du Quoin, the daughter of Nelson Browning Layman and Julia Constance (Hall) Layman Moore. She was married to Joel A. Burger from 1948 to 1955.

She attended the First Presbyterian Church and the Church Kids Club in Daytona Beach, Fla.

She was a member of ABWA and Seabreeze Band Parents Association and was a Girl Scout co-leader.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Joeleen Thorndike and husband, Andrew T., of Heathsville, Va., and Mary Louise Smith and husband, Lynn, of Hebron, Md.; 10 grandchildren, Lara E. Kelley and husband, Thomas, Miley A. Brady and wife, Beth, Bonny J. Thorndike, Abigail S. Thorndike, Grace E. Chute and husband, Troy, Julia R. Smith, Mary Linn Smith, Anna L. Smith, Leslie I. Smith and Joel N. Smith; four great-grandchildren, Brady and Susan Haynie, and Peyton and Hunter Brady; one brother, Nelson Hall Layman of Hinsdale; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Carroll Ross Layman; and a sister, Gloria Constance Layman.

RUTH CONNER

Formerly Whittington - Ruth Conner, 94, a former Whittington resident, died at 10:20 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004, at the Fairview Nursing Home in Du Quoin.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton, with the Rev. Keith Neal and the Rev. Charles McCormick officiating. Burial will be in the Shiloh Cemetery in Whittington. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Tuesday to the funeral home.

Ruth was born Feb. 6, 1910, in Benton, the daughter of Calier and Ollie (Moore) Miller. In 1936, she married Naaman Conner, and he preceded her in death in 1976.

Mrs. Conner was a member of the Williams Chapel Church. She was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge and of the Quilting Club.

Mrs. Conner is survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Hazel Wayman and Ruby Cardin, and three brothers, Clyde, Roy and Claude Miller.

ESTEL J. BEATY

Ewing - Estel J. Beaty, 75, of Ewing died Thursday evening, April 29, 2004, in Durham, N.C.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, at the Ewing Cemetery in Ewing, with Father Joseph Trapp officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday to the Johnston Funeral Home in Whittington. Friends and family are requested to meet at the funeral home at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday.

Estel was born in Hamilton County on June 19, 1928, the daughter of Andrew and Lela (Mathis) Page.

She was married to Roy Beaty; he preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 1989.

Mrs. Beaty graduated from Southern Illinois University with a master's degree in library science and history. She was recently retired from the Benton Public Library as a library clerk.

Mrs. Beaty is survived by her four daughters, Sharon Morell of Quaker Hill, Conn., Elizabeth Beaty of Morris, Andrea Beaty of Naperville and Paula Cohen of Durham, N.C.; two sons, John Beaty of Uncasville, Conn., and Edward Beaty of Middleton, Wis.; three grandchildren, Derek Morell of Quaker Hill, Conn., and Katie Uram and Andrew Uram, both of Naperville; one sister, Emaline Dorris of West Frankfort; two brothers, Lewis Page of Mulkeytown and Joseph Page of The Philippines; her mother, Lena Page of West Frankfort; and extended family, Bill Morell, Bill Cote, Michael Uram, Katherine Baker, Rob Cohen and Janet Riley.

Mrs. Beaty was preceded in death by her father and husband.

ETHEL MOZELLE BUSH

Mulkeytown - Mrs. Ethel Mozelle Bush of rural Mulkeytown departed this life in the Herrin Hospital on Saturday, May 1, 2004, at 3:56 p.m. She had attained the age of 73 years, 8 months and 22 days.

Services will be held in the Royalton Christian Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, with Brother Larry Hallman officiating. Interment will be in the Miners Cemetery at Royalton. Friends may call to the Royalton Christian Church from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until the service hour Tuesday.

Mozelle was born in Johnston City on Aug. 9, 1930, the daughter of Chares and Irene (nee Reynolds) Hargraves.

She was united in marriage to Roy Franklin Bush in the Royalton Christian Church at Royalton on Nov. 26, 1954, and Franklin survives her passing.

Mrs. Bush was a retired teacher. She began teaching at the Coello Grade School. She then taught at the Arkansas School near Mulkeytown. Mozelle finished her teaching career at the Zeigler-Royalton Grade School, retiring after over 31 years in education.

Mozelle was a member of the Royalton Christian Church. She was a longtime Sunday school teacher and had served as choir director.

Left to mourn her passing is her husband, Franklin, of Mulkeytown; two sons, Denny Bush and wife, Carol, of Royalton, and Tom Bush and wife, Barb, of Mulkeytown; a brother, John Hargraves and wife, Vickie, of Christopher; six grandchildren, Dynette Bush, T.J. Bush, Kara Smith, Andrea Cockrum, Pete Arro and Dustin Bush; six great-grandchildren, Dakota and McKenzie Smith, Austyn and Dennis Bush, and Emeri and Riley Arro; an uncle, T.L. Reynolds of Michigan; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Ralph, Gene and George Hargraves; and a sister, Doris Yadloski.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the charity of the donor's choice and will be accepted at the church.

The Campagna Funeral Home of Nashville is in charge of arrangements.

PEGGY ANN (McGHEE) DOWNS

West Frankfort - Peggy Ann (McGhee) Downs, 38, of West Frankfort died at 9:23 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2004, in Benton.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 23, at East Fork Cemetery in West Frankfort, with Fr. Larry Lemay and the Rev. Derek Downs officiating. Friends may call from 9 until 10:30 a.m. to the Union Funeral Home, located at Oak and Jefferson Streets in West Frankfort.

Peggy was born Aug. 8, 1965, in Benton, the daughter of William and Mary Sue (Calvert) McGhee.

She was a postal carrier in Christopher, and was a member St. John's Catholic Church in West Frankfort.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald Downs of West Frankfort; her parents, William and Mary Sue McGhee of West Frankfort; two brothers, Matt McGhee of Atlanta, and Christopher McGhee of Benton; six sisters, Nancy Seibert of West Frankfort, Sally and Allan Watson of St. Petersburg, Fla., Rosemary and Steve Elam of West Frankfort, Theresa and Dan Grant of Palmyra, Pricilla and Steve Matlie of Palmyra, and Bridget and Jame Herrell of West Frankfort; a stepson, Gerald Downs Jr. of Herrin; and two stepdaughters, Daye and Rex Roach of Marion, and Dalus Kulich.
