Mary Ann Blalark of Elgin
Services for Mary Ann Blalark, 80, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Living Gospel Church of God in Christ, with the Rev. Walter Blalark officiating.
Born Nov. 3, 1918, in Jackson, Tenn., to Green W. and Rosie (nee Pope) Cunningham, she died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at home. Burial will be in River Valley Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Blalark had been a resident of Elgin for 31 years. She confessed Christ at an early age at Walnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Jackson and received the Holy Ghost at the Allen Avenue Church of God in Christ in Jackson. She was the Head Mother of Living Gospel Church of God in Christ in Elgin and was also one of the F. W. McGee District Mothers.
Survivors include her daughters, Helen Pace of Fort Worth, Texas, Joyce Holloway of Detroit, Mich., and Linda (Willie) Buckhana of Elgin; sons, Leon D. Blalark of Elgin, Charles (Darcella) Blalarkof Elgin and Supt. Walter H. (Rebra) Blalark of Elgin; sisters, Bernice (James) Pearson of Jackson, Dorothy (Ephriham) Baker of Seattle, Wash., and Clara (Willie) Osborn of Morristown, Tenn.; brother, Samuel Walter (Erma) Cunningham of Jackson; special nieces, Benette Cobb, Ruby Blalark and June Jones; 36 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Elizabeth Carroll, Minnie Lee Snowden and Cornelius Cunningham; brother, James Oliver Cunningham; and children, Audrey L. Ross, Doris Jean Baker and Donell E. Blalark.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the church.

Blanche Born of Elgin
A service to celebrate the life of Blanche Born, 81, will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, at Living Lord Lutheran Church, 1044 Congress at Route 59, Bartlett.
Born April 16, 1917, to Bohemian immigrants, Jaroslav and Josefin (nee Zavodny) Cihak, she died suddenly of a heart attack, Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
Blanche and her family had moved to Central Stickney Township from the Little Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago when she was 7. Though she never went to high school, she read and studied political issues and supported progressive causes all of her life. A charter member of the Steel Workers Union, she organized in the aluminum factory.
She also worked tirelessly for civil rights, supporting the Mississippi Freedom Summer and marching for open housing for African Americans in Chicago. Several times she traveled to Washington, D. C., on behalf of civil rights and to protest the Vietname War.
Together with her husband, Blanche also picketed Chicago food stores on behalf of Cezar Chavez' Farmworkers Union. She was also a steadfast opponent of the death penalty. A fighter who relished life, she survived a stroke, heart attack and cancer, but age, arthritis and diabetes. relegated her to a wheelchair in her later years. Her activism then took the form of relentless phone calls and letter writing.
Blanche was much beloved by many friends, including some from her days as a milliner at the Gloria Hat Factory, as a manager for Praga Press, and as a manager for Ken's Other Place tavern in Chicago. She was especially close to her buddies atthe Candi Bone Stroke Club at Jayne Shover Easter Seals in Elgin. Blanche `collected' people who wene unnoticed byothers and tried to make a difference in their lives.
Surviving are her daughter, Brenda (Clifton) Schory; son, Stephan Born; grandchildren, Branden (Mary) and Rita; many nieces, nephews and cousins; many relatives in the Czech Republic; and her dog, Chippy.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Cihak.

Maureen A. Buchholz of Carpentersville
A memorial service for Maureen A. Buchholz, 66, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Miller Funeral Home, 504 W. Main St., West Dundee. Rev. Nancy Nyberg will officiate.
Born June 12, 1932, in Racine, Wis., the daughter of Francis and Dorothy Kennedy Hanney, she died Monday, Feb. 15,1999, at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. Burial will be private.
Mrs. Buchholz was a 42-year resident of the area. She was a former Cub Scout and Camp Fire Girl troop leader. She was also a former C. C. D. instructor.
Survivorsinclude her daughter, Tracey (Nick) Signorile of Carpentersville; sons, Kurt of Carpentersville and Matt (Bonnie) of Carpentersville; and grandchildren, Matt, Brooke, Joe, Michael, Tom, Sean, Brianne and Sarah.
She was preceded indeath by her parents; husband, Walter; and daughter, Kathi.

Kenneth R. Carlson formerly of McHenry
Services for Kenneth R. Carlson, 74, most recently of Silver Lake, Wis. and also formerly of Prairie du Sac, Wis., will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights.
Born Jan. 29,1925, in Benton Harbor, Mich., he died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at Northern Illinois Medical Center, McHenry. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Carlson retired in 1995 after many years as a tool and die maker.
He was the loving husband of the late Carol M. (nee Emmering) Carlson, whom he married June 18, 1949, in Berwyn; dearest father of Janice (John) Ours of Silver Lake, Wis. and Linda (Michael) Willour of Palatine; dear grandfather of Paul (Bobbie Jo) Carlson, Douglas, Matthew and Theresa Willour; dear great-grandfather of Connar Carlson; fond brotherof Elenor Carlson of Wheaton and the late Earl and Donald Carlson; and dear brother-in-law of Margaret and Laurie Carlson, both of Chicago.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

Louis Carzoli of Algonquin
Memorial services for Louis Carzoli, 91, formerly of Deerfield, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at McHenry County Memorial Park Chapel, 11301 Lake Ave., Woodstock. Pastor Roger Schneider of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church will officiate.
Born Feb. 28, 1907, in Chicago, he died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at home.
A retired truck driver for Dealers Ready Mix in Highland Park, he was a member of Modenese Society of Highwood.
Survivors include his wife, Tina (nee Migliori) of Algonquin; children, Maury (Joey) Zagnoli of Hoffman Estates, Mary (Tony) Gherardini of Deerfield and Grace (Mark) Ault of Algonquin; sister, Maria (Presidio) Ghini of Algonquin; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Iris Margaret Cosgrove
A memorial service for Iris Margaret Cosgrove, 70, most recently of Hot Springs Village, Ark., will be held on Monday, March 1, at St. Thomas of Villanova Church in Palatine. Services in Hot Springs Village will be held on Saturday, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. The Rev. Raymond Rossi will officiate.
Born April 13, 1928, in Cincinnati, Ohio, she died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, in Hot Springs Village. Burial will be in CedarVale Cemetery, Hot Springs Village.
Mrs. Cosgrove was a member of the Village Card Club, the Hot Springs Village Women's Club, the Sacred Heart Women's Guild and was a former vice president of the St. Thomas of Villanova Women's Club.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Cosgrove of Hot Springs Village; sons, Kevin (Constance) Cosgrove of Glen Ellyn, Michael Cosgrove of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., John (Vicki) Cosgrove of Castro Valley, Calif., Stephen (Laura) Cosgrove of Wheaton and Patrick (Pam) Cosgrove of Newport News, Va.; sister, Joan (James) McHugh of Rockford; and seven grandchildren.

Myrtle Elsie Ekblad of Prospect Heights
Funeral services for Myrtle Elsie Ekblad (nee Ekdahl), 81, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Arlington Heights Evangelical Free Church, 1331 N. Belmont, Arlington Heights.
Born Jan. 12, 1918, in Lake Bronson, Minn., she died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, in Rockford. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery, Des Plaines.
She was the wife of Eddie E. Ekblad; mother of Lynn (Jeff) Stolar, Alan Ekblad and Stephen(Sue) Ekblad; grandmother of Matthew, Chelsea, Erin, Lara and Brett; and sister of Eleanor Larson and Nomie (Willard) Petersen.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service, Saturday, at the church.

Christopher Scott Fischrup of Hoffman Estates
A funeral Mass for Christopher Scott Fischrup, 21, willbe celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Schaumburg.
Born Sept. 11, 1977, in Elk Grove Village, he died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, in Little Rock, Ark. Burial will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine.
Mr. Fischrup was a graduating senior at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. A 1995 graduate of Hoffman Estates High School, he was an honor student in high school as well as at the university. He was also an Illinois State Scholar and a Presidential Scholar.
He is survived by his beloved parents, Angel and Robert Fischrup; loving grandparents, Alice and Orville Fischrup and Sue Scott; dear brother and sister, Tim and Kelly Fischrup; and devoted best friend, Sara Lilienthal.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at Ahlgrim and Sons Funeral Home, 330 W. Golf Rd., Schaumburg.

Betty Ruth Fredricks of Glen Ellyn
Memorial services for Betty Ruth Fredricks (nee Teander), of Glen Ellyn for the past five years, formerly of Venice, Fla., and St. Charles, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, at Leonard Memorial Home, Ltd., 565 Duane St., Glen Ellyn.
Born July 26, 1922, in Chicago, she died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at Glen Oaks Hospital, Glendale Heights.
A homemaker, Mrs. Fredricks had volunteered her time for PADS and the Glen Ellyn Public Library. She also worked in the bookstore at the College of DuPage.
Survivors include her children, Penny (Bob) Devin-Luttrell of Glen Ellyn, James Fredricks of Van Nuys, Calif., and Maggie Fredricks (Bill Burghardt) of Glen Ellyn; brother, Robert Teander of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Evonne Zink of Oregon; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard W. Fredricks.

Adelaide Harney of Elgin
A funeral Mass for Adelaide Harney, 97, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, at St. Laurence Catholic Church, Elgin. The Rev. Joseph F. Kulak will officiate.
Born Jan. 22, 1902, in Hannibal, Mo., she passed away Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
A longtime resident of Elgin, she was the loving mother of Robert Harney of Elgin; cherished grandmother of six; great-grandmother of 22; and greatgreat-grandmother of three.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glenn Harney, in 1996; sister, Alice Lapage; brothers, Fred, Albert, Harry and Bill Ross; and daughter-in-law, Jo Harney.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin.
