Betty Pokvitis of Naperville
Prayers for Betty Pokvitis (nee Waishwile), 72, formerly of Chicago and Glenview, will be said at 9 a.m. Saturday, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30 a.m. at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 26 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville.
Born Dec. 18, 1926, in Chicago, she died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. Interment will be in Naperville Cemetery, Naperville.
Mrs. Pokvitis was born and raised in Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood where she graduated from Kelly High School. She married her husband, Zenon on July 18, 1948. Together they founded the Able Electro Polishing Company in Chicago in 1954. The business is internationally known as a specialty metalfinishing company. Mrs. Pokvitis served as an executive officer. Mrs. Pokvitis had many different interests among them, politics. She was active in the national Republican presidential campaigns of the 1960s, specifically the runof Barry Goldwater. She enjoyed world travel with her husband, reading, gourmet cooking and had a keen interest inalternative medicine. She received her nursing diploma from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in 1973, in order to become a registered nurse. Mrs.
Pokvitis also lived in Morton Grove and Glenview through the years and raised Black Angus cattle at their family farm in Waupaca, Wis.
Survivors include her cherished and adored husband of 50years, Zenon W. Pokvitis of Naperville; beloved children, Sandy (John) Glass of Naperville, Lynda (Tom) Schewe of Barrington and Dave (Renee) Pokvitis of Springfield, Ore.; loving grandchildren, John (Jennie) Glass of West Lafayette, Ind., Tom (Chrissy) Glass of Naperville, Kathryn Elizabeth Glass of Naperville, Brian Glass of Naperville, Ryon and Dana Schewe of Barrington, and Gregory and Natalie Pokvitis of Springfield, Ore.; and her beloved mother, Betty Waishwile of Naperville.
She was preceded in death by her father, Stanley Waishwile; and brother, Robert Waishwile.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home.

Jennie F. Pregracke of North Chicago
Mass of Christian Burial for Jennie F. Pregracke (nee Grom), 86,will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Queen of Peace Church.
Born Dec. 12, 1912, in Waukegan, she died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at Oak Park Hospital. Interment will be in Ascension Cemetery following the Mass.
Mrs. Pregracke lived in the North Chicago/Waukegan area all of her life.
She retired in 1977 from Sears Roebuck and Company in Waukegan after 15 years of service. She was a member of Queen of Peace Church and a former member of Holy Rosary andMother of God Church. Mrs. Pregracke was a member of the Altar and Rosary Sodality and K. S. K. J. St. Mary's Lodge #79.
She is survived by a son, Dennis J. (Mary) Pregracke of Oak Park; daughters, Carol Ann (Patrick) Woods of California and Celeste Pregracke of Waukegan; grandchildren, Michael Woods, Amy Woods, Sarah Pregracke and Joseph Pregracke; and great-granddaughter, Miranda Woods.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Pregracke, in 1956.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, at Salata Funeral Home, 729-14th St., North Chicago.

Norbert L. Raymer of Round Lake
Norbert L. Raymer, 76, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999. He was born Sept. 22, 1922, in Chicago.
Survivors include his daughters, Janice (Richard) Fietze of Waukegan, Janet (Peter) Lishamer of Ingleside, Jackie (fiance Bill Catrette) of Spring Grove and Jill (Richard) Speidell of Bakersfield, Calif.; sons, Jeffery Raymer of Round Lake and Jim (Lien) Raymer of Reno, Nev.; grandchildren, Ronald and Felicia Fietze, Jennifer (Carl) Williams, Jeff Fietze (fiancee Erika), Peter Lishamer Jr., David Raymer, Nicole Dax, Gunnar Conguisti, Heather Speidell and Brittany Conguisti; and great-grandchildren, Carl Joseph Williams and Craig Williams.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion; brother, Ralph; and his parents.
Arrangements were entrusted to Strang Funeral Chapel and Crematorium, Ltd., Grayslake.

Joseph Remsing of Mount Prospect
A funeral Mass for Joseph Remsing, 92, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Emily Church, Mount Prospect.
Born March 24, 1906, he died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery.
He was a member of the Moose of Des Plaines, Goldenaires of St. Zachary Church and St. Emily Church.
He was the husband of the late Magdalene; father of Joseph Jr. (Margaret); grandfather of Linda (Richard) Kwiecinski, Robert (Maureen), Stephen, Thomas (Kathy) and Marianne (Brian) Peterson; and great-grandfather of Candice, Kristin, Sean, Ryan, Shannon, Tyler and Jordan.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today, at G. L. Hills Funeral Home, 745 Graceland Ave., Des Plaines.

Veronica Ann Rettke of Palatine
Services for Veronica Ann Rettke (nee Rose), 60, will be held at 11 a.m. today, at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine.
Born Aug. 5, 1938, in Chicago, she died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at Foster G. McGaw Hospital in Maywood. Burial will be in Randhill Park Cemetery, Palatine.
A lifelong resident of Palatine, Mrs. Rettke had been very involved with the family business, Rettke and Son Plumbing, where she had worked as secretary for many years. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and also had a great love for gardening. Mrs. Rettke was a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Schaumburg.
Survivors include her husband, Kurt H. Rettke of Palatine; children, Kurt E. (Laura) Rettke of Palatine and Michelle (James) Atlas of Buffalo Grove; grandchildren, Kurt Jr. and Amber Rettke; brothers, John (Nancy) Rose of Cary and Ed (Bonnie) Rose of Palatine; sisters, Francie (Jim) Wilder of Farmington, Mich., and Rosalie (Ralph) Burkart of Montgomery, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Bernice E. Sarli of Hoffman Estates
Memorial services for Bernice E. Sarli (nee Chapman), 88, a resident of the Benchmark Retirement Center in Hoffman Estates, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Ahlgrim and Sons Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy., Palatine.
Born Sept. 12, 1910, in Chicago, she died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999. Interment will be private.
Survivors include her husband, Vito Sarli; children, Jean (Dominic) Dicosola, John Sarli and Joan (William) Lindal; and grandchildren, John, Donna, Sue, Daniel, Dominic Jr., Ronald, Fred and Nancy Jean.

Georgia Lou Saylor of Arlington Heights
Memorial services for Georgia Lou Saylor, 77, will be held at1 p.m. Saturday, at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E. Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights.
Born April 23, 1921, in Middletown, Ohio, she passed away Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, in Lake Bluff.
Mrs. Saylor had been a resident of Arlington Heights for the past 37 years and was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Arlington Heights.
Surviving are her husband, Millard Saylor; sons, Richard (Margot) Saylor of Buffalo Grove and Mark (Sue) Saylor of Arlington Heights; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to her church.

She was the beloved wife ofthe late Walter Schimels; dearest stepmother of Dorothy (Earl) Matz, Lois Fricke and Carol (Donald) Koetke; dear grandmother of 10; great-grandmother of 15; and aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Joanne A. Simmons of Morton Grove

Born Oct. 14, 1931, in Chicago, she died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge. Burial will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery, Skokie.
A homemaker, she was the beloved wife of the late Robert J. Simmons; loving mother of Thomas J. Simmons of Glenview and Peggy (Ronald) Gosell of Mount Prospect; dearest sister of Lawrence W. (Jeanne) Fox of Coos Bay, Ore.; dear sister-in-law of Dorothy (Chuck) Mosior; cherished grandmother of three; and great-grandmother of three.

Dorothy Smiddy of Barrington
Services for Dorothy Smiddy (nee Fields), 72, a resident of Barrington since 1961, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Stirlen-Pieper & Davenport Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington. The Rev. Harry Jarrett will officiate.
Born Nov. 20, 1926, in Evarts, Ky., she went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at her home, the 54th wedding anniversary of she and her husband, Kermit,who preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 1999. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mrs. Smiddy was employed at Graphic Calculator in Barrington for 25 years.
She enjoyed fishing with her husband, Kermit, music, and watching the Discovery Channel.
Survivors include her children, Joyce (Huddy) Scott of New York, Kermit D. (Donna) Smiddy of Barrington, Tom Smiddy of Schiller Park, Brenda (Bill) Hammer of Panama City, Fla., Sandra (Terry) Smiddy-Barg of Island Lake and Michael (Patricia) Smiddy of Maryville, Tenn.; brother, Bruce (Diane) Carnahan of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister, Evelyn (Bill) Harris of Cincinnati, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit Smiddy, whom she married Feb. 16, 1944, in Evarts, Ky.; sister, Cathryn Sanders; and two brothers, Joe and Red Fields.
