Margaret Ann Knowles

NAUVOO, Ill. - Margaret Ann Knowles, 77, of Nauvoo, Ill., died Monday morning, March 15, 2004, in Carthage Memorial Hospital, Carthage, Ill.
She was born Dec. 7, 1926, in Keokuk, the daughter of Elmer Francis and Loretta Fern Dusenberry Bruegger. On June 9, 1947, in Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo, she was married
to David W. Knowles. He survives.
She attended St. Marys Academy in Nauvoo.
Mrs. Knowles was a member of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed working crossword puzzles but her life centered around her family and friends.
Additional survivors include: three sons, David Knowles and his wife, Jennifer, of Pearland, Texas, Richard Knowles and his wife, Nancy, of Mackinaw, Ill., and Douglas J. Knowles and his wife, Pam, of Nauvoo; a daughter, Mary Jane Hamma and her husband, Dennis, of Murphy, N.C.; a brother, Joseph K. Bruegger of Pearland; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Dale Bruegger; and a great-grandson, Jackson Knowles Brown.
Funeral mass will be said at 10 a.m. Friday in Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo, with Father Luke Spannagel and Monsignor Paul Showalter as celebrants.
Burial will be in Saints Peter & Paul cemetery, Nauvoo.
Friends may call Lamporte Funeral Home in Nauvoo after 3 p.m. Thursday with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials in her name have been established for Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo.
Scot Mathew Boley
Sept. 10, 1960 - May 15, 2004
WARSAW, Ill. - Scot Mathew Boley, 43, of Warsaw, Ill., formerly of Keokuk, died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at his home.
He was born Sept. 10, 1960, in Keokuk, the son of John and Elaine Lambert Boley.
He married
Andrea Jones on Sept. 10, 1997, in Keokuk. She survives.
Other survivors include four children, Shaleen Jones and Dylan Boley both of the home, Tiann Boley of Davenport, and Kori Boley of Wewohitchka, Fla., two grandchildren, Kyle and Tyson; six brothers, John Boley III and his wife, Chris, of Burlington, Mark Boley and his wife, Tammy, of Keokuk, Andy Boley of Burlington, Doug Boley of Clarinda, Todd Boley of Keokuk, and Danny Boley and his wife, Rosie, of Burlington; two sisters, Pam Belton and her husband, Mike, of Keokuk, and Peggy Jahani and her husband, Mohammad, of Sacramento, Calif.; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, a brother in infancy, Dale Joseph Boley, and a sister, Penny Boley Dill.
He was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk.
He enjoyed fishing, motorcycling and wrenching. Most of all, he enjoyed the times he spent with his family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at All Saints Catholic Church, with Father Christopher David officiating.
Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran cemetery in Carthage, Ill.
Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with the family meeting with friends from 7 to 9 p.m.
A memorial has been established for the family.
John Joseph King
NAUVOO, Ill. - John Joseph King, 69, a resident of Nauvoo, Ill., and formerly of Lynn, Mass., died at 6:48 a.m. Friday, May 28, 2004, in Keokuk Area Hospital.
He was born Sept. 9, 1934, in Lynn, the son of Michael Vincent and Sarah Helena Giann-Atonio King.
He was educated at Brigham Young University and the University of Utah. He taught music for 15 years in various states in the United States. Since 1963, he was a graphologist (handwriting analyst). He sang in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for three years. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Nauvoo.
Survivors include: three sisters, Ruth King Tansey of Lynn, Sabina Mary King Salatino and her husband, Vito, of Pittsfield, Mass., and Helen Bernadette King of Beverly, Mass.; and two brothers, Edward Leo King and his wife, Linda, of Lynn, and Thomas M. King, also of Lynn.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
A memorial service will be at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 17, at St. Marys Chapel in Lynn.
Burial of ashes will be in the St. Marys cemetery, Lynn.
Memorials may be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Nauvoo.

Helen L. Smalley-Hurlbert

MAHOMET, Ill. - Helen L. Smalley-Hurlbert, 68, of Mahomet, Ill., died at 5:10 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2004, in the Carle Hospital in Urbana, Ill.
She was born Nov. 23, 1935, in LaRay, Mo., the daughter of Fred and Lillian Lee Smalley.
She married
Bill Hurlbert on April 18, 1964, in Keokuk. He survives.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Urbana. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, art work and animals.
Additional survivors include: a daughter, Shari Smalley Harrington of Cisco, Ill., four grandchildren; and a sister, Arlene Jones of Keokuk.
Services will be at noon Monday at Blair-Owens Funeral Home, 102 E. Dunbar, Mahomet, with the Rev. Gritten officiating.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Mahomet.

Clyde Glen McConnell

QUINCY, Ill. - Clyde Glen McConnell, 81, a resident of the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Ill., and formerly of Carthage, Ill., died Friday evening, June 11, 2004, in the Veterans Home.
He was born Sept. 18, 1922, in Fountain Green, Ill., the son of John Wesley and Grace Harmon McConnell.
He was a veteran of the Army Air Force and served in Europe during World War II.
He was a truck driver, retiring from Hancock Service Company in Carthage.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of Hancock County Post No. 5117 of the VFW of Carthage, Philip Hartzell Post No. 74 of the American Legion, also of Carthage, and AMVETS Post No. 0104 of Quincy.
Survivors include: a brother, John McConnell of McQuon, Ill., three sisters, Jane McDaniel of Carthage, Mary Helen Shoemaker of Torrington, Wyo., and Virginia Fossey of Moab, Utah; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bill McConnell and Robert "Harmon" McConnell.
Graveside services were scheduled this morning at Moss Ridge cemetery, Carthage, with the Rev. Beth Rupe officiating. A flag presentation was conducted at the graveside by Hancock County Post No. 5117 of the VFW.
Visitation was held prior to the service at Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Blessing Hospice.
Lamporte Funeral Home of Carthage was in charge of arrangements.
Karen 'Suzy' Burchett Savate
NAUVOO, Ill. - Karen "Suzy" Burchett Savate, 50, of Nauvoo, Ill., died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.

Dorothy Marie Martin
Sept. 12, 1914 - Dec. 15, 2004
EAST PEORIA, Ill. - Dorothy Marie Martin, 90, of East Peoria, Ill., formerly of Morton, Ill., died at 4:05 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, Ill.
She was born on Sept. 12, 1914, in Nauvoo, Ill., the daughter of Joseph and Ada Pilkerton Christy.
She married
Howard I. Martin on June 17, 1931. He preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 1989.
She also was preceded in death by a son, Donald, a brother, and a sister.
Survivors include: her daughter-in-law with whom she made her home, Janet Martin, of East Peoria; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She worked in the cafeteria at East Peoria High School before retiring. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in East Peoria. She attended Bethel Lutheran Church in Morton.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria.
Visitation is from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Sunset Memorial Park, Keokuk.
Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk.

David Lee Tuttle

CLEARWATER, Fla. - David Lee Tuttle, 40, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Nauvoo, Ill., and Dayton, Ohio, died Sunday, March 29, 2009, at his home in Clearwater.
He was born on Oct. 9, 1968, in Fort Madison, the son of Ray William Tuttle and Bonnie Lee Stapp Tuttle.
Survivors include: his father, Ray Tuttle of Nauvoo (Jeanne Willson of Fort Madison); two sisters, Nancy (John) Symmonds of Keokuk and Charlene Symmonds of Hamilton, Ill.; nieces and nephews, Kelly Symmonds of Keokuk, William Tuttle of Indiana, Jamie (Jeff) Bair of Keokuk, Christopher Symmonds of Hamilton, Nicole Villaria and Adrianne Tuttle, both of Quincy, Ill., John Symmonds and Jennifer Symmonds, both of Keokuk; and several great-nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and numerous friends, including long time friend, John Stadler of Clearwater.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Ray William Tuttle, on Dec. 1, 1980; his mother, Bonnie Lee Tuttle, on Dec. 5, 2003; and his brother, Gary Wayne Tuttle, on July 20, 2007.
He attended Nauvoo-Colusa High School and Fort Madison High School. In 1987, he attended Bill Hill School of Cosmetology in Fort Madison.
Before moving to Dayton, he worked as a cook at the American Legion in West Point and as a waiter at various restaurants in the Chicago area, including Johnny Rockets where he had the experience of waiting on various television, movie and sports personalities.
In recent years, prior to moving to Florida, he had worked in a medical supply business.
David loved being with people and enjoyed sharing good food and wine with them. He was an avid collector of rocks and fossils. He spent many hours with his father exploring for that special rock or specimen to add to his collection and was particularly proud of his geodes.
He also was an animal lover and had many pets throughout the years. He will be deeply missed by his beagle, Edina, whom he affectionately called Eddie.
While living in Ohio, he spent many pleasant hours tending his rose garden of which he was very proud. He loved art and displayed a natural artistic talent that he explored in his younger years.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Lamporte - St.Clair Funeral Home, Nauvoo, with burial in the Nauvoo City cemetery next to his brothers and his mother.
Visitation is after 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with family meeting friends and relatives from 5 to 7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the donors choice.
