James J. Carr
Aug. 13, 1936 - April 10. 2009

QUINCY, Ill. - James J. Carr, 72, of Quincy, Ill., formerly of Keokuk, died Friday, April 10, 2009, at Sycamore Healthcare in Quincy.

He was born on Aug. 13, 1936, in Montrose, the son of Earnest C. and Lillian L. Bertsch Carr.

He graduated from Montrose High School in 1955.

He had been employed at several auto parts stores in the area for more than 20 years, retiring in 1984.

He enjoyed refinishing antiques. His specialty was restoring Aladdin oil lamps.

He also enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include: three sons, Tony Carr of Keokuk, Todd Carr of Des Moines and Terry Carr and his wife, Karen, of Ankeny; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lila Dockum and her husband, Oren, of Loveland, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother in infancy, Larry Eugene Carr.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Vigen Memorial Home, Keokuk, with Brother Bill Hauser officiating.

Burial will be in Hickory Grove cemetery, rural Keokuk.

Visitation is today at the funeral home, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Charles Clinton Dill
Jan. 5, 1926 - April 9, 2009

HAMILTON, Ill. - Charles Clinton Dill, 83, of Hamilton, Ill., died at 6:48 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2009, in Blessing Hospital, Quincy, Ill.

He was born on Jan. 5, 1926, in Elvaston, Ill., the son of Harry and Pauline (Morris) Dill.

He graduated from Hamilton High School.

He married Ruby Cleveland on Nov. 25, 1950, in Kahoka, Mo. She preceded him in death in 1995.

Charles loved riding around visiting people and also loved his dog, Patches and his cat, Tuffy.

He was a 32 degree Mason in the Blackhawk Lodge.

He was a former chief of police in Hamilton. He was retired from St. Louis Diecasting.

Survivors include: seven children, Mike (Joanne) Dill of Croton, Mickey (Sue McKay) Dill of Hamilton, Gary (Vickie) Dill of Hamilton, Myra (Steve) Boley of Warsaw, Ill., Tad Dill of Hamilton, Ellen (Randy) Bruns of Lewistown, Mo., and Shawn (David Markell) Dill of Argyle; his companion, Alice Green of Hamilton; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Maxine Dill Dulaney; and a brother, LaVern Dill.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Oakwood cemetery, Hamilton.

Visitation is from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Printy Funeral Home, Carthage, Ill. A Masonic service will be at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

A memorial fund has been established.

Printy Funeral Home, Carthage, is in charge of arrangements.

Bonnie J. Gibson
Aug. 19, 1927 - April 12, 2009

HAMILTON, Ill. - Bonnie J. Gibson, 81, of Hamilton, Ill., died peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2009, at Blessing Hospital, Quincy, Ill., of heart failure.

She was born on Aug. 19, 1927, in Keokuk, the daughter of Joseph S. and Pansy V. Howell.

Bonnie had been a resident of Hamilton since 1958. She was employed at the Iowa Ammunition Plant in Middletown for approximately 40 years before her retirement in 1989.

She enjoyed doing word seek puzzles, feeding her birds and the company of her dog, Tanner James.

Bonnie was a devoted mother and grandmother and helped raise her four grandchildren.

Survivors include: her daughter, Karen Taylor and her husband, Derryl Dusty, of Hamilton; four grandchildren, Kim Ludwick and her husband, Darrell, of rural Canton, Mo., Kevin Taylor, Kris Taylor and his wife, Sheri, of Keokuk and Troy Davis of Hamilton; five great-grandchildren, Katie Obreque, Morgan Taylor, Bobby Porter, B.J. Harriman and Jimmy Harriman; two great-great-grandchildren, Ahmi and Adli Obreque; two brothers, Edward Coop and his wife, Rosemary, of Fernando Beach, Fla., and Joseph Coop and his wife, Laurie, of The Villages, Fla.; a sister, Marilyn Jones and her husband, Ron, of Dubuque; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Marjorie Jean Lindner; a brother, Richard Coop; and a sister, Virginia Berry.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Vigen Memorial Home, Keokuk, with the Rev. Monsignor Greg Ketchum officiating.

Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Hamilton.

Visitation will be held after 9 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home, with family meeting friends at that time.

Memorials may be made to PAWS Animal Shelter in Fort Madison or Blessing Hospital Intensive Care Unit in Quincy.

Florence L. Marzolf
June 1, 1920 - April 10, 2009

NAUVOO, Ill. - Florence L. Marzolf, 88, of Nauvoo, Ill., died at 9:14 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2009, in Methodist Medical Center, Peoria, Ill.

She was born on June 1, 1920, in Sonora Township, Ill., the daughter of Clarence and Ruth Huntley Newton.

She married Edward Carl Bud Marzolf on June 25, 1953. He preceded her in death on May 10, 1996.

Survivors include: a daughter, Cheryl L. Marzolf of Peoria; a son, Harold L. (Sharee) Marzolf of Monroe, Wis.; and two grandchildren, Carl Marzolf of Milwaukee, Wis., and Curt Marzolf of Monroe.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; twin children, Michael R. and Marietta Ruth Marzolf, who died at birth; and a sister, Marjorie Kyburz.

She graduated from Oaden Elementary School and Nauvoo High School.

She was an active member of the Nauvoo Presbyterian Church and a member of the Nauvoo Presbyterian Womens Group. She also was a member of the Nauvoo Unit of Home Extension and a hobby club she formed with her friends.

She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, gardening, traveling and dining out with her friends and family. Florence and her husband farmed in the Nauvoo area, raising grain, fruit and livestock.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lamporte - St. Clair Funeral Home, Nauvoo, with Mark Anderson officiating.

Burial will be in the Nauvoo City cemetery.

Visitation is after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorials have been established for the Nauvoo Presbyterian Church or Hancock County Cancer Society.

Lamporte - St. Clair Funeral Home, Nauvoo, is in charge of arrangements.

Franklin "Abe" Hurst Walker
(September 30, 1911 - May 14, 2011)

Franklin Hurst “Abe” Walker, 99, of Gastonia, North Carolina, formerly of Hamilton, IL, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Brian Center in Gastonia. Mr. Walker was born in Winnebago, Minnesota on September 30, 1911, the only son of the late Clyde H. and Grace Elder Walker.

He moved with his family to Hancock County, Illinois when he was five years old. He attended school in Hancock County and Western Illinois Military Academy in Alton, Illinois. He lived on and farmed the family farm until his retirement in 1976. He continued to live on the farm until 1983 when he and his wife moved to Hamilton, IL to his family’s home. After his wife’s death, he moved to Gastonia, North Carolina in 2004 to be near his son and daughter-in-law. He was an avid boater, flew his own airplane and enjoyed his motorcycle in his younger days. Abe lived life to the fullest even to the end.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Walker was preceded in death by two wives, Frances Walker and Kathleen Walker Drew.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law: Robert “Bob” and Gayle Walker of Gastonia, NC; four grandchildren: Tammy W. Myers and husband, Gary, of Gilson, IL, Graceann W. Cole of Lexington, SC, Robbie W. Mangum of Matthews, NC and Jerry Walker of Oxford, NC; three step grandchildren: Mona Hill and husband, Rob, of Oxford, NC, Dawn Williams and husband, Todd of Chapel Hill, NC and Kim Sanford and husband, Bruce of St. Peters, MO; and nine great grandchildren: Camryn and Chloe Myers, Jordan and Kaylea Cole, Christopher and Stephen Hill and Taylor, Meredith and Emily Williams.

Mr. Walker was a loving father and grandfather and was affectionately known to his grandchildren as Grandpa Abe.

The family received friends on Monday, May 16, 2011 at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia.

A Graveside Service will be held Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Oakwood cemetery in Hamilton.

Family will meet with friends on Thursday between 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM at Lamporte - St. Clair Funeral Home of Hamilton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Jerry Dean Schuler
(July 30, 1943 - May 18, 2011)

Jerry Dean Schuler, 67, of Hamilton, Illinois passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 7:30P.M. at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois. He was born on July 30, 1943 in Colorado Springs, Colorado a son of Glen and Grace Brooks Schuler. Jerry married Diana Dodge on March 30, 1962 at the Central Church of Christ in Streator, Illinois. She survives in Hamilton.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Shelley (Tony) Gallo of Austin, TX, Cherri (Marty) Sedore of Kahoka, MO and Brad (Jean) Schuler of Hamilton, IL; two brothers: Mark (Angel) Schuler and David (Dianna) Schuler of Streator, IL a sister: Betty Drog of Rockford, IL; his sisters and brothers-in-law: Jackie (Bob) Turner of Streator, Gayle (Wayne) Steurer of Janesville, WI and Patricia Rose of Streator, IL; ten grandchildren: Kortnie Ames, Ashley Ames, Justin Harter, Alyssia Caley, Grant, Carter and Natalie Gallo and Emily, Jenny and Samantha Schuler; and nine great grandchildren: Brooklyn, Paityn, Dravin, Audra, Silas, Presley, Brinlee, Taylor and Madison.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother (Daniel) and a brother-in-law (Joseph Rose).

Jerry and his family moved to Streator, IL when he was two. He graduated from Streator High School in 1961 and attended Illinois Valley Community College in Oglesby, IL. He transferred to Keokuk, IA with Bearing Headquarters in 1973 and moved to Hamilton in 1980. In 1978, he started Phoenix Manufacturing in his living room and remained owner and president. Jerry enjoyed fishing, yard work, remodeling his homes and trips to Canada. He also enjoyed drawing. Most importantly, he loved the time he spent with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Family will meet with friends Sunday, May 22, 2011 between 4:00 and 7:00 P.M. at Lamporte - St. Clair Funeral Home of Hamilton.

Funeral Services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Sunday following the visitation.

Cremation rites will be accorded.

Lamporte - St. Clair Funeral Home of Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.

Hilda May Jacobs
(December 12, 1916 - May 19, 2011)

Hilda May Jacobs, 94, of Hamilton, Illinois passed away Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 5:35 P.M. at the Heritage House in Carthage. She was born on December 12, 1916 near West Point, Illinois a daughter of Albert and Christina Klingler Harms. She married Mr. Arthur Jacobs on January 27, 1937 in the Bethany United Church of Christ Parsonage, Tioga, IL. He preceded her in death on January 11, 2011. Survivors include: two daughters: Karen and (Billy) Donavon of Denver, Colorado, Phyllis and (Charles) Meyer of Worden, Illinois. A son: Gary and (Carla) Jacobs of West Point, Illinois. Five grandchildren: Lisa and (Jeff) Brunenn of Hamilton, Illinois, Angela and (Ted) Knorr of Bowen, Illinois, Allen and (Kim) Meyer of Staunton, Illinois, Glenn and (Janine) Meyer of Staunton, Illinois, Brian Meyer of Worden, Illinois. Ten great grandchildren: Brady Moore, Michael, Elijah, Kendall, Luke, and Jillian Meyer, Ryan and Lucas Brunenn, Kelsey and Jacob Knorr; a sister-in-law: Erma Harms of Quincy, IL.

Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and five brothers: Carl and his first wife, Marie and second wife, Leona, Paul and his wife Marie, Ralph and his wife, Virginia, Clarence, and Walter and his wife, Pauline.

Mrs. Jacobs attended grade school at Oak Forest and attended Mendon High School. Hilda worked at Davis Cleaver in Quincy, IL and later worked at Montebello Health Care Center in the kitchen until her retirement. She was a member of the Bethlehem United Church of Christ where she belonged to the quilting group. She enjoyed quilting, growing flowers and gardening in her earlier years.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 23, 2011 between 12:30 and the time of the service at Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Sutter, IL.

Funeral services will follow on Monday at 2:00 P.M. at the church with Pastor Roy Paterik officiating. Burial will be in the Bethlehem United Church of Christ cemetery, Sutter.

Memorials have been established for the Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Sutter.

Harry W. Bridgman
(March 30, 1938 - May 15, 2011)

Harry William Bridgman, 73 of Nauvoo, Illinois passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011 at 7:00P.M. at his home in Nauvoo. He was born on March 30, 1938 in Memphis, Tenn. the son of Harry Joseph and Neva Adams Bridgman.

Survivors include: four daughters: Angel Ann Oliver of Ponce De Leon, FL., Karen McCleary of Iowa, Ann Marie Farnsworth of Florida, Gail Bair of Iowa. Two sons: John Oliver of Boston, Mass., Harry W. Bridgman II of Iowa. One sister: Patty Daniels of Ohio. 12 grandchildren: Shane, Darian, Jesse, Steven, Shawn Tiana, Kalli, Madison, Kamber, Michale, Harry Bridgman Jr. III, and Dylan one great-grandchild: Brockton.

Harry served in the United States Navy from 1955-1959. He was a welder and enjoyed working with his hands. Harry also enjoyed woodworking, fishing and driving.

Cremation rites have been accorded.
