Robert Clark

CARTHAGE, Ill. - Robert Clark, 98, of Carthage, Ill., died at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009, in Hancock County Nursing Home, Carthage.
He was born on April 1, 1911, in Denver, Ill., the son of William and Flora (Akers) Clark.
He married
Wilma Daily on July 22, 1939, in Palmyra, Mo. She survives.
Additional survivors include: son, Jeffrey (Karen) Clark of Carthage; a brother, Ray (Allene) Clark of Keokuk; two grandchildren, Steven (Darla) Clark of Dixon, Ill., and Teri Vance of Carthage; two great-grandsons, Robert Conor and John Tyler Clark of Dixon; a great-granddaughter, Chauntel Vance of Carthage; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Glen.
He enjoyed reading and watching sports on television. His passion was flying. He received his flight training at the Macomb Airport and flew around locally to build up his flight time until he received his license. Afterwards, he went to Peoria Flying Service as a flight instructor and from there to the Army Contract Flight School in Tulsa, Okla. He served two years there in which time he joined the Navy as a Lieutenant and remained there for the duration of World War II.
After the war he moved back to Denver, where he farmed. With his wife, he moved to a farm east of Denver where they continued to farm until he retired. Then he and his wife moved to New Port Richey, Fla., where they lived for several years. They decided to come back home and moved to Carthage where he lived until he passed away.
He was a member of the Denver Christian Church.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Moss Ridge cemetery, Carthage.
Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Printy Funeral Home, Carthage, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday before the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Memorial Hospital Building Fund or Blessing Hospice of Hancock County.
Printy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Catherine Elizabeth Katie Coney
June 29, 1938 - April 14, 2009
HAMILTON, Ill. - Catherine Elizabeth Katie Coney, 70, of Hamilton, Ill., died at 2:31 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009, in Keokuk Area Hospital.
She was born on June 29, 1938, on the family farm in St. Patrick, Mo., a daughter of Basil and Rachel Ellison Fryer.
She married
William Granville Coney Jr. on Aug. 24, 1957, in St. Patrick. He preceded her in death on June 22, 2006.
Survivors include: two daughters, Beverly Ann Coney of Falls Church, Va., and Dena (Steve) Mast of Hamilton; two granddaughters, Emily Catherine Mast and Andrea Elizabeth Mast, both of Hamilton; four siblings, Marianna (Joe) Gredell of Keokuk, Basil Junior (Ann) Fryer of Keokuk, Nancy (James) Boatman of Wayland, Mo., and Joseph Fryer of Canton, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son and infant daughter; and a daughter, Tina Coney on Dec. 8, 2007.
She graduated from St. Patrick High School.
She was of the Catholic faith. She owned and operated Catherines Coiffures in Hamilton for many years.
Katie enjoyed gardening and attending her granddaughters school and sporting events. She especially loved cheering on the West Hancock Lady Titans.
Visitation is after 2 p.m. Friday at Lamporte - St.Clair Funeral Home, Hamilton, with family meeting friends from 5 to 8 p.m.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Liberty cemetery, Williamstown, Mo., with the Rev. Ernest Dietrich officiating.
Memorials have been established for Lady Titans Basketball.

Edward Lewis Ed Horton
Oct. 30, 1934 - April 16, 2009
NIOTA, Ill. - Edward Lewis Ed Horton, 74, of Niota, Ill., died at 11:05 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2009, in Fort Madison Community Hospital.
He was born on Oct. 30, 1934, in Fort Madison, the son of Lloyd and Grace Lamb Horton.
He married
Carmelitta Carm Baker on Sept. 5, 1955, in Creston. She survives in Niota.
Additional survivors include: four sons, Philip Horton of Dallas, Texas, James (Lori) Horton of McKinney, Texas, Paul Horton of Rhome, Texas, and Matthew (Angela) Horton of Mount Pleasant; three daughters, Martha Frank of Des Moines, Carol Horton of Burlington and Sarah (David) Miller of Oswego, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, Colleen Frank, Shay Altshue, Zerron Horton, Christopher Frank, Karl Frank, Kevin Frank, Kathryn Frank, Lexis Miller, Beau Miller, Brooklyn Horton, James Horton and Dallas Miller; a sister, Janice Baxter, Palmyra, Mo.; two brothers, Larry (Sig) Horton of Burlington, Ky., and Joe (Sally) Horton of Pullman, Wash.; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Grace (Lamb) Horton, and a brother-in-law, Richard Baxter.
Ed was a patient, loving responsible, caring, understanding and attentive husband and father. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, camping, automobiles, attending car races highlighted by the Grand Prix in England and enjoying jazz music. He was involved in many activities, including Junior Achievement advisor, Cub Scout sponsor, coach of children sports, Town Clerk of Pontoosuc Township, Hamilton VFW member and Elks member in San Angelo, Texas.
He attended Oak Grove Country School and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1952. He attended Southeastern Community College in Burlington.
His career was a tele-communications engineer, working for various companies such as Northwestern Bell, Western Electric, Housley Communications, FirsTel and Contel which took him across the United States as well as Canada and England. He spent two years in the United States Army stationed in Alaska and at one point spent seven years farming. Ed was a proud supporter of his childrens activities. He enjoyed spending time with his family which often included playing cards.
Visitation is after 2 p.m. today at Lamporte - St.Clair Funeral Home, Nauvoo, Ill., with family meeting friends between 6 and 8 p.m. A rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m.
A mass of Christian burial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Nauvoo,`` with Father Tony Trosley as celebrant.
Burial will be in Nauvoo City cemetery with a flag presentation at the graveside.
Memorials have been established.
