John was born October 23, 1919, in Blue Mound, IL, the son of James E. and Lena (Goldenstein) Armstrong. He married
Ruth Kettelkamp on December 25, 1942 near Boody, IL.
John was a lifetime member of Bethel United Methodist Church. He retired from farming.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth of Blue Mound, IL; son John Gregory Armstrong and wife Angela of Decatur, IL; son-in-law Michael Sperry of Decatur, IL; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 3 nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Janice Sperry, sisters Valera and Mildred.

Winifred Etta Davis, 93, a native of Indianapolis, IN, a longtime resident of Decatur, IL, and a recent resident of Gulf Shores and Robertsdale, AL, passed away Friday, November 2, 2007.
She served as Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star in Decatur, IL, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gulf Shores. She was a beloved neighbor and friend.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her son, Dale Andrews of Decatur, IL; her stepdaughter, Katherine Luttrell of Taylorville, IL; two brothers, Paul and Jean Wagley, both of Indiana; other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 9, 2007, at Graceland cemetery, Decatur, IL. Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, will be handling the arrangements.

Atha R. Atchison, 89, of Springfield, IL, formerly of Decatur and Maroa, died Wednesday, September 19, 2007, at St. John’s Hospice.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, September 24, 2007, at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with Danny Cox and Sara Isbell officiating. Visitation will be 2 to 5 P.M., Sunday, September 23, 2007 at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery, Decatur, IL. Memorials may be made to St. John’s Hospice.
Atha was born August 5, 1918 in Pana, IL, the daughter of W.F. Marlow and Hazel Marlow. She married
O.T. (Tom) Atchison on May 5, 1940. He preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents, sister and brother.
Atha loved studying the Bible, playing bridge, and rooting for the Cubs. She attended Laurel United Methodist Church, was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and former member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and Maroa Methodist Church. Atha was a former member of Bible Study Fellowship and Decatur Christian Women’s Club. Also, she volunteered at Gum Park, Brush College, and Parsons School.
Surviving are two daughters Marla (Mark) Krell of Chatham, IL and Peggy (David ) Taylor of Spartanburg, SC; grandsons Matt (Stacy) Krell of O’Fallon and DJ (Tina) Taylor of Cincinnati, OH; great grandsons Brendan and Ryan Krell of O’Fallon; brother-in-law and niece Jack and Betty Atchison of Forsyth, IL; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, great-great-great nieces and nephews. Atha also left many friends and neighbors from Maroa, Decatur and Springfield.

Harold David Atkins, 72, of Decatur, IL, died 8:30 P.M., Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, March 10, 2008, at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation one hour prior to service time. Burial will be in Camp Butler National cemetery, Riverton, IL, with military rites.
David was born June 2, 1935, the son of James Lew and Edna (Fleming) Atkins. He was a U.S. Army veteran. David previously worked at Staley’s and was a self employed painter.
He is survived by his brothers and sisters Mary Perry and husband Robert of Mechanicsville, MD, Pat Wisley of Decatur, IL, Betty Songer and husband Jerry of Cerro Gordo, IL, Janet Boys of Decatur, IL, Edward Atkins and wife Martha of Dalton City, IL, Tom Atkins and wife Mary Lou of Maroa, IL; 18 nieces and 16 nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Harry and James Eugene, sister Dorothy Harminson.

Lowell Ray “Ted” Atteberry, 79, of Decatur, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on November 21, 2007 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Ted was born on August 30, 1928 in Fairfield, IL. He was the son of Gladys Ewing and Orville Grubb, whom he considered his dad. He married
Verla Smith in 1946 in Kentucky. They were married
for twenty nine years before she passed away. He later married
Rowena Fornear of Argenta, IL.
Ted was employed by International Harvester in Indiana. In 1955 he moved to Decatur and worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company. During his time, he was elected Financial Secretary of Local U.A.W. #751 for four years. The employees then elected him President of the Union. He held this position for six years. In 1987 with thirty two years of dedicated service he retired. Ted’s pleasures were simple- he loved going to the Casino boat in Peoria at least once a week, playing scrabble, rummy, some travel, and eating at Smorgasbords which he called “hog houses”! Food was his number one passion. He was well known at Home Town Buffet!! Ted was affiliated with the Baptist Church.
He is survived by his best friend and loving companion for twenty years Rowena Fornear of Decatur, IL; his son Dr. Ray Atteberry and his wife Kathy of Forsyth, IL; his daughter Lynn Ammann-Fletcher and her husband Everett of Decatur, IL; brother Gene Atteberry and his wife Margaret of Channahon, IL; step-sons John Fornear and his wife Tara and David Fornear and his wife Kathy all from Argenta, IL; grandchildren Bo, Sunni, Andi, Karson, Cale, Audra, Adam, Matthew, Erin, Elizabeth, Morgan, and Connor; six great-grandchildren; nieces Vickey, Jeanne, and Barbara, and numerous cousins.
Ted was preceded in death by his father Vincent Atteberry, mother Gladys Grubb, and his “dad” Orville Grubb.
Dad worked hard his entire life, but most importantly, he cared about his family and friends. Our hearts are broken- we were not ready to let him go. His virtues of honesty, caring, generosity, his sense of humor, and his heart of gold will be remembered by all that knew him. He was a class act and one that cannot be followed.
Our family is especially grateful to Dr. Sherwood for his care and kindness, Dr. Rademacher, and his entire ICU staff at D.M.H..
Ted’s visitation will be Sunday (11-25-2007) from 11:00 until service time at 2:00 P.M. at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home. Services to honor his life will be at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home on Sunday (11-25-2007) at 2:00 P.M. Burial will follow services at Graceland cemetery. Memorials may be made to the the American Cancer Society.

Allen Dean Babcock, 87, of Decatur, passed away at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, March 16, 2008, at Fair Havens Christian Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Visitation will be 4-6:30 p.m., Friday, March 21, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, IL, with military rites by the Macon County Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests balloon bouquets and/or memorials may be made to West Decatur Church of God.
Allen was born on February 28, 1921, in Decatur, the son of George and Lonely (Pruitt) Babcock. He married
Velma Mae Pate on October 2, 1949, in Decatur. She preceded him in death.
Allen enlisted in the U.S. Army, in 1941, serving his country during World War II. He served in Africa with the 3rd Battalion, 9th Infantry, and then in Sicily, in England on D-Day, in France, Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge, and in Germany, fighting in the Battle of Huertgen Forrest. Amongst other medals, Allen received two Purple Hearts during his time of service.
Allen retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1977, after 36 years of service. Allen was a member of West Decatur Church of God, where he also served as Deacon and Elder. He was an avid circus fan and was a member of Circus Fans of America.
Surviving are his sons Dennis Dean Babcock and wife Linda; Steven Scott Babcock and companion Sharon Searl, all of Decatur; grandchildren Ricardo (Rick) Martinez and fiancé` Liz Mocak, currently in Dijon, France; Steven Tyler Martinez, an honor student at Millikin University in Decatur; and Stacey Jayne Babcock, a student at Eisenhower High School and Richland Community College in Decatur.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, wife Velma, brother Jim Babcock, and sister Virginia Withers.

Mary Sue was born January 31, 1929, in Kaw City, OK, the daughter of Richard and Nellie (Duggan) Mann. She married
Charles N. Bainbridge on September 1, 1953 in Carmi, IL.
Mary Sue was a school teacher for 22 years, the last nine years being at Harris School and was a member of the Teacher’s Union. She loved to paint watercolors.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Charles of Decatur, IL; children David Bainbridge and wife Mary of Elgin, IL, Steven Bainbridge and wife Jeannie of Decatur, IL, Ann Blackman and husband Randy of Urbana, IL; grandchildren Jessica Bainbridge, Joseph Bainbridge, Brad Bainbridge, Ryan Blackman, Rebecca Blackman and Adam Blackman.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Fred was born on September 24, 1920, in Decatur, the son of Frank and Ada (Newberry) Balding. He married
Helen L. Hill on June 15, 1947, in Bement, IL.
Fred served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He worked as a sales representative for Purity Baking Company, retiring in 1974.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Helen of Decatur; daughter Lynn Christine Klock and husband Douglas of Hilton, N.Y.; son Gary Franklin Balding and wife Kathy of Matthews, N.C.; and grandchildren Kevin Klock, Adam Klock, Brittany Balding, and Brett Balding.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Janet, one sister and two brothers.
