Norma Anderson of Sugar Grove
Services for Norma Anderson, 65, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Sugar Grove United Methodist Church. The Reverend Steven Good will officiate.
Born April 3, 1933, in Chicago, the daughter of Arnold and Elizabeth (nee Steffens) Perksen, she passed away Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at Provena Mercy Center Hospital in Aurora, after a proud and courageous battle with cancer. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Chikaming Township, Mich.
Her early years were spent in Chicago until 1943, when the family moved to Michigan. Following graduation from New Troy High School, she went on to attend Michigan State University where she graduated in 1955, with a bachelor's degree in mathematics.
Three years later on June 7, 1958, Norma was united in marriage to Stanley Anderson in Harbert, Mich. Soon afterward they moved to Rockford, where they lived for a few years before moving to Aurora. In 1964, they moved to Sugar Grove where Norma's life became woven into the very fabric of the community.
She was a devoted member of the original Sugar Grove News, volunteered on the fire department and served 16 years on the library board. Among her many labors of love, however, quilting topped the list. As long as her hands could do anything at all, they were busy making her last square for this year's quilt.
For approximately 15 years, she was the heart and soul of the Sugar Grove Dental office, where she worked for Dr. Wesley Morel for many years and later, Dr. Fee. Better than novocaine, Norma took the fear out of going to the dentist and year after year, welcomed patients from far and wide.
Shortly after her retirement in 1998, she was stricken with cancer. True to her character, she carried the burden with strength and courage.
Survivors include her husband, Stanley of Sugar Grove; sons, Neal S. (Carolyn) Anderson of Gurnee and Glenn T. Anderson of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren, Molly and Erik; and a family of dear friends.
In addition, she leaves a legacy of timeless memories. Her devotion to her grandchildren will never be forgotten, nor will her Texas sheet cake, swedish meatballs, oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and her `top ten favorite' Christmas cookies. Unforgettable too, is her devotion to Purdue, surely her blood ran black and gold! She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; and her beloved Ginger, the very best family dog ever.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today, at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Thursday, at the church.
Memorials in her name may be made to the Sugar Grove Library and mailed c/o P. O. Box 66, Elburn, IL 60119.
