Richard Allan Chapman, 73, of Decatur, IL, died 12:50 A.M., Thursday, December 13, 2007, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Sunday, December 16, 2007, at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation two hours prior to service time. Burial will be in Salem cemetery, Decatur, IL.
Richard was born September 17, 1934, in Blue Mound Twp., the son of Kenneth and Jeannette (Alsbury) Chapman. He married
Nancy Austin on February 7, 1953, in Decatur, IL.
Richard owned and operated Chapman Cartage Trucking for 20 years and later worked for ADM for 10 years. He was a member of the U.S. Navy Reserve for 8 years. Richard loved hunting, fishing, and NASCAR racing.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy of Decatur, IL; children Ramona Fitzpatrick and husband John of Decatur, IL, Cheryl Thornton and husband Mark of Decatur, IL, Rita Hagenbruch and husband Tim of Clinton, IL, Shelly True and husband Bill of Decatur, IL, Rick Chapman and wife Lisa of Valdosta, GA; 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; mother Jeannette of Decatur, IL; sisters Norma Agase of Florida, Sue Whitacre and husband Steve of Oakley, IL; brothers Virgil Chapman and wife Betty of Florida, Vincent Chapman of Georgia, Dale Chapman of Bethany, IL.
He was preceded in death by his father, daughter Peggy Ann, two sisters Barbara Allen and Shirley Weybright.

Vercie Eaton, 92, of Decatur, went to her heavenly home at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Imboden Creek Living Center.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Thusday, April 17, 2008 at Bethel Bible Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Zion General Baptist cemetery, Allenville, IL.
Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Vercie was born March 12, 1916, in Monroe County, Kentucky, the daughter of William Clay and Lucy Jane (Crowe) England. She married
James R. Eaton on November 27, 1933, in Charleston, IL. He preceded her in death on Oct. 14, 1986.
Vercie was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Bible Church and of the Golden Jubilee Membership. She volunteered at Love Unlimited for many years.
Surviving are her children Lenora Imogene Woods and husband Clyde of Clark, MO; Sandra Elgene Stone and husband William of Vero Beach, FL; Marilyn Kay Hart and husband Robert of Illiopolis, IL; James Russell Eaton and wife Mary of Clinton, MO; Kenneth Edward Eaton and wife Deborah of Mesa, AZ; 13 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother Cecil England of Salem, IL; sisters Ola Hampton of Bethany, IL; Pauline Harl of Sullivan, IL; Edith Krause of Lakewood, CO; and Mary Shuman of Plano, TX; also many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.
Vercie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson, great grandson, three brothers, and one sister.
She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

Sandra Kay Ballard Clary, 58, passed away suddenly at her home on November 4, 2007, in Decatur, IL.

Melvin T. Clary in Decatur, IL on July 12, 1975.
She is survived by her husband Melvin and one son Fredrick of Decatur, IL; parents Jesse and Marjorie Ballard of Kalamazoo, MI; brother Roger and wife Bettie of Battle Creek MI; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Scott W. Cleave, Jr. was born on a farm near Ottawa, Illinois on August 2, 1919, the oldest son and middle child of three. Scott passed away Saturday, February 23, 2008 in Decatur, IL. He was preceded in death by his father, Scott W. Cleave, and his mother, Mabel (Haines) Cleave, as well as his brother Forrest Cleave. His older sister, Rosamond Ham of Lexington, Kentucky, and his wife, Mary S. Cleave of Forsyth, Illinois, survive him.
Mr. Cleave’s father died in December of 1930, when Scott was just 11 years old. His mother was a remarkably accomplished woman, and the family managed to keep the farm through the years. They moved to Urbana, Illinois in 1931, where Scott, Forrest and Rosamond went to the University of Illinois after graduating from Urbana High School. He helped support the family with odd jobs and paper routes throughout his school years and carried their pail of milk home from the university agriculture school at the end of each school day. It was “no hill for a stepper, ” as he would say. He enjoyed acting in plays and playing the trombone during school events. Mr. Cleave graduated in 1943, with a combined degree in Commerce and Law.
Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Cleave enlisted in the Navy. He received his commission as ensign after midshipmen’s school at Columbia University in New York. He arrived for the christening of LST 532 in Evansville, Indiana in late 1943 and sailed it down the rivers to New Orleans. As Lieutenant and 2nd officer of the ship, he helped sail the landing ship to Devon, England and participated in 46 crossings of the English Channel during and after the D-Day invasions of Normandy. Mr. Cleave ultimately served 3 tours of duty after being called up from the reserves following WW2 and during the Korean conflict. During one of those tours, he served in Corpus Christy and carried troops by ship from New Orleans to Havana, where he developed a love of traditional jazz and a definite fondness for Cuban cigars. In his final Navy posting he served as shipyard lawyer for the San Francisco naval shipyard.
Between tours of duty, Mr. Cleave was an associate with the Decatur law firm of Vail, Mills & Armstrong and then served as the first public defender in Illinois downstate from Chicago. He met his bride, Mary D. Shellabarger, at the University of Illinois and was married
November 25, 1955, at First Presbyterian Church of Decatur. When he was finally discharged from the military, he joined the law firm of Monroe & McGaughey in Decatur. The firm became Monroe, McGaughey, Cleave and Taylor when he was made a partner. For the last 20 years he maintained a solo law practice primarily serving families in the Decatur area, until retirement was forced upon him by a fall and resulting brain injury at the age of 85.
Outside of his law practice, Mr Cleave was active in the community as past president of the Decatur Bar Association, past board member of the Decatur Salvation Army, past president of the Decatur Club, an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, a supporter of the Decatur Jazz Festival, participation in Sertoma and many other organizations.
He can also be remembered as an avid bowler, an enthusiastic, if mediocre, golfer, and a sometimes woodworker with lots of plans.
His friends remember him as someone who was good to everyone they know. His 8 grandchildren and 13 nieces and nephews remember him for his stories, his bushy eyebrows, corny jokes, and for his genuine interest in them. His sons, Scott W. Cleave III (Paula) of Evanston, Illinois, John B. Cleave (Mary Beth) of Evanston, Illinois, Robert R. Cleave (Michelle) of Half Moon Bay, California, and William F. Cleave (Cindi) of Pennington, New Jersey, remember their father for many things, like his encyclopedic knowledge of the life story of everyone he’d met, 7AM weekend wakeup calls for yard work, and his insistence on initiative (“you’ll never learn it any younger”). He was also one of their biggest cheerleaders in life.
He was devoted to his wife of 52 years, and she selflessly supported and looked after him. Like many of his generation, he always worked hard, complained little, and he made it against the odds.
The family asks that any memorial donations go to the Salvation Army to help continue their works in the Decatur community. A visitation will be held at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home at 2827 N Oakland Ave., Decatur from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday, February 29, 2008. His memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church at Prairie and Church Streets in Decatur, on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at 4:00PM.

Gordon “Gordy” J. Cleland, 74, of Decatur, IL, formerly of Tuscola, IL, died 6:38 P.M., Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Decatur Memorial Hospital, with his loving family by his side.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, May 5, 2008, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Decatur, IL. Visitation will be 4 to 7 P.M., Sunday, May 4, at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with prayer service at 7 P.M. Graveside service and burial will be 3:00 P.M., Monday, May 5, at Valley Memorial Park, Spring Valley, IL. Gordon was born February 11, 1934 in Spring Valley, IL, the son of John Carson and Bernice Helen (Donna) Cleland. He married
Donna Marie Koster on July 25, 1959 in Peru, IL.
Gordon was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Gordon first joined the Illinois State Police on December 15, 1957, promoted to Sergeant in 1969 and in 1971 entered the Planning Research Section. He acted as a Legislative Liaison in Springfield for 2 years, and there are several laws now on the books that he helped prepare. Gordon was Safety Education Officer in 1962, promoted to Corporal in 1965 and became Assistant Director for the Safety Education Section. In 1973 he was promoted to Lieutenant and assumed duties of District 10 Field Operations Officer. He was promoted to Captain in 1976 and selected Director of Office of Inspections in Springfield. In 1978 he was assigned as Commander of District 12, Effingham and in 1979 Commander of District 10 where he remained until his retirement on December 31, 1988. Gordon was a member of Golden K Kiwanis, Illinois Chiefs of Police Association, member of Retired State Police Association and loved fishing and golfing. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving in Korea.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Donna of Decatur, IL; children Cindy Cross of Forsyth, IL, Brian J. Cleland of Decatur, IL, Danny Cleland and wife Sharon of Tuscola, IL, Tina L. Romine and husband Mike of Mattoon, IL, Jeff Cleland and wife Leigh Ann of Cedar Rapids, IA; grandchildren Duffy Cleland, Ashley Cross, Clint Cleland, Taylor Cross, Kelsey Cleland, Madison Cleland, Tanner Romine, Colton Romine; great grandchild Jaycee Lynn Cleland.

William Thomas Eichenauer, 78, of Decatur died at 1:45 p.m., June 1, 2008 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 5, 2008 at Westminster Presbyterian Church followed by burial at Graceland cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL will be handling the arrangements.

Bill was born August 6, 1929 in Decatur, the son of Harold Lyn and Marianna (Rucker) Eichenauer. He married
Nancy Lee Fisher on August 8, 1953 in Port Washington, NY.
He leaves his loving wife Nancy; sisters, Betty Peters (Roy) of Paris, IL, and Mary Jane Babb (Rob); sons, Tom (Gloria) and Lee (Toni); daughters Beth Stringer, Patty Jones, and Sue Allen (John); and 17 grandchildren, all of Decatur.
A lifelong Decatur resident, Bill was in the Class of 1947 at Decatur High School, and received a BS in Engineering Administration from Millikin University in 1951. He served in the US Army from 1951-53, performing tests and experimental work on Radar in conjunction with Army Field Forces Board IV Sperry Gyroscope Co. and Raytheon Corp. Field Engineers at Ft. Bliss, TX and White Sands, NM.
Eichenauer Services, Inc. (ESI) is a three-generation family business established by Bill and his father, Harold, in 1955 as an electrical contracting and commercial food equipment service company. Bill purchased his father's share of the business in 1972, serving as chairman of the board until 2004, when the company was purchased by his sons, Tom and Lee.
Bill's leadership in the commercial food equipment service industry helped establish the Commercial Food Equipment Service Association (CFESA) in 1963, where he served as president from 1969-71 and 1983-85. He was instrumental in developing Tech Trac 80, a national technical training program at the Northwood Institute, and garnered national recognition with the Presidential Distinguished Service Award from (CFESA) in 1977, and the Outstanding Top Service Company in the nation by Vulcan Hart Corp. Louisville, KY, in 1988. ESI was also recognized as the Decatur Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year in 1981, and was named the Illinois Small Business of the Year by Loyola University in 2002.
A tireless supporter of Millikin University for fifty-seven years, Bill served as president of the local fraternal chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Millikin Quarterback Club, and served as chairman for the Millikin Annual Fund Drive, Capital Fund Drive, and Centennial Committee. He was elected to the Millikin Board of Trustees in 1993, and continued to serve as an Emeritus trustee. Of all his volunteer involvement at the university, Bill's favorite was running the scoreboard for Millikin football and basketball games. For his service to the university, Bill received the Alumni Loyalty Award in 1966 and the Alumnus of the Year in 1996.
Bill's commitment to education extended throughout the community. He served on the Advisory Council for establishment of the Community College of Decatur (Richland), the Vocational Education Task Force for the State of Illinois Department of Education, and the Advisory Council to the District 61 Area Vocational Center. He recently worked to establish the Center for Creative Learning and the Culinary Institute at Richland Community College, which will offer classes in Fall 2008.
Bill's dedication to revitalizing historic areas of Decatur led to the establishment of the Oakwood Business Association where he served as chairman, and the Olde Towne Redevelopment Corporation for the City of Decatur that offers funding to homeowners for property improvements in the West End. His efforts to influence the creation of the West Main Corridor resulted in the completion of the first phase in 2007. Bill continued to serve on the Lincoln Square Theatre board as past chairman to support ongoing efforts to renovate the historic theatre.
Bill was past chairman of the Community Investment Corporation of Decatur, and was elected to the board of trustees for First National Bank, First Decatur Bancshares (now Busey Bank) in 1992.
A member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Bill served as Deacon, Elder and president of the Board of Trustees.
For all of his dedication to the Decatur community, Bill was named the Citizen of the Year by the city of Decatur in 2007.
Bill took pleasure from woodworking, gardening and was an avid rock hound. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting for gems in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina during family vacations, and was grateful for his role as "Head Guru" on camping trips across the country with the nine "Guru" families. Bill's concern for the plight of America's wolf population led to his involvement in establishing the wolf exhibit at Scovill Zoo.
As a husband, father and grandfather, (Opa" to his seventeen grandchildren) Bill took great pride in his family, and worked to instill a strong sense of self. He lived by four basic tenets: worship God, work hard, cherish family and give back to the community. His selfless passion for living, voracious desire to keep learning, and the deep love he held for his family and the city he called home are treasured legacies from a man who lived an incredible life.

Lois was born on June 24, 1916 in Decatur, IL., the daughter of John Henry Boggs and Nora Florence (Fathauer) Boggs. She married
Everett Harold Conley on May 24, 1937 in Champaign, IL.
She was a member of the Cerro Gordo Church of the Brethren, Cerro Gordo, IL. Lois operated her own beauty shop in Cerro Gordo, IL. for twenty five years. Mrs. Conley was an artist and had painted many landscapes.
She is survived by her three children: Lois Yvonne Cresap and husband Terry M. of Mountain Home, Ark., Margarie Bee Liaguno and husband David of Byron, GA, and Suzanne Morr and husband Alan of Hesston, KS.; grandchildren: Terry Cresap, Jr. and wife Laura, Tamara Rushton and husband Robert, Tricia Smith, Shawn Liaguno and wife Terry, Christopher Liaguno, Eric Morr and wife Tara, David Morr and wife Darcy, and Don Morr and wife Rebecca; fifteen great-grandchildren and one brother Bert Boggs and wife Marj of Hemet, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two sisters.
