Earl Clyde Frey, 83, of Decatur, passed away at 4:45 A.M. on Saturday February 2, 2008, in his residence.
Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home are handling the arrangements.
Earl was born on March 3, 1924, in Joliet, IL., the son of Simeon Frey and Bertha (Lennon) Frey. He married Rita Eileen Padden on October 29, 1944. She passed away on May 29, 1995.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Earl retired in1986 after 34 years service as a welding tech. at Caterpillar Tractor Co. Earl attended Glad Tidings Assembly of God, was a life member the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He was a hospice volunteer at Decatur Memorial Hospital for several years and drove the van for veterans to Danville V.A. Hospital. Earl was also a bingo caller for many years. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing pool and was a Cub fan.
He is survived by his three children: Bruce Frey and wife Nancy of Decatur, IL., Eileen Rita Ide and husband Laurence of Dixon, IL., and Brent Frey and wife Dorothy of Clinton, Ohio; dear friend and companion: Beverly McGuire of Decatur, IL. ; four grandchildren: Lora Finn and husband Eric of Clinton, Ohio, Amanda Gause and husband Dan of Canton, Ohio, Scott Ide and David Ide both of Dixon, IL.; two great-grandsons: Brady Finn and Blake Gause.; two sisters: Ruth Downey and husband David of Joliet, IL. and Carol Morris and husband Tom of Florida.
Earl is preceded in death by his parents, infant son, granddaughter Frances Ide, and three brothers: Roland, Donald, and Clarence.

Neva M. Fulk

Neva M. Fulk, 94, passed away on May 3, 2008, in Chula Vista, CA.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 16 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, 2827 N. Oakland Avenue, Decatur, IL 62526. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 17, at 10:00 A.M., at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow in Mt. Zion cemetery. Donations in Neva’s memory may be made to Webster-Cantrell Hall, 1942 E. Cantrell St., Decatur, IL 62521.
Neva was born to Clarence and Grace Lunsford Black on December 27, 1913, in Reynolds County, MO. She moved to Decatur with her brother and father in 1921, following her mother’s death. As a young girl, Neva lived in Webster Hall for some years. Her brother, Sylvan, lived in Cantrell Hall. In later years, she frequently recounted her life in Webster Hall with gratitude and fondness.
Neva attended Decatur High School and later worked at the Hi-Flyer Kite Factory and Greider’s Cafeteria. She married Albert L. Fulk in 1933 and they had one son, Jerry. During WWII, she worked at Macon Arms Factory and later worked at Flint Eaton Pharmaceuticals. Neva was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She enjoyed card playing and a good joke.
In 1957, she and her husband moved to Riverside, CA. Neva was a member of the National Contesters Association and won valuable prizes for her slogans, song titles, jingles and other entries. She was also an avid reader. Her husband died in 1976 and in 1989, she moved to Bonita, Ca to be closer to her family. Her favorite pastime was traveling. She took many trips in the United States and went to Europe, Australia and Africa. Neva enjoyed family reunions in Decatur and Elsinore, MO.
Neva was predeceased by her brother Sylvan and adopted sister Dolores Foster of Fontana, CA. She is survived by her son Jerry; daughter-in-law Carol; grandchildren Kathleen Main, John Fulk and Michael Fulk; great grandchildren Brittany, Nicole, William and Jennifer; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Denise Gleason

Denise Gleason, 57, a long time resident of Mt. Zion, died at her home, Tuesday, December 4th. Her heroic battle with cancer was an inspiration to friends and family alike. She is survived by her husband, Tom; her sons Alec and Jared and their wives Annette and Danielle; her parents, Ben and Eleanor Prather; her sisters, Janice and Nancy and their husbands Mike and Vince; Craig, her brother and his wife Debbie. She also leaves behind nine nieces and nephews, and one great-nephew.
Denise, a twin, was born in Culver City, California. From there, her family moved to Illinois, where she was raised in Lake Villa, and attended and graduated from Antioch High School. She then attended Millikin University and subsequently graduated from Illinois State University in 1973. At that point, she interviewed and was hired by the Stonington School District, where she remained an educator in the Stonington/Taylorville School Districts for over thirty years. During that time, her primary responsibility was as the art instructor. Recognized by her peers as “Teacher of the Year”, she also wrote a number of grants, yielding thousands of dollars for the district. Denise also did yearly presentations at the annual convention, held in Chicago, IL. Her workshops there were filled to capacity and recognized nationally for their quality and content. She retired in 2005.
Visitation for Denise will be held Thursday, December 6, at the Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, beginning at 3 PM and ending at 8 PM. Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 7, at 11AM, at the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church, Mt. Zion, IL. Burial Services will be immediately after at the Mt. Zion Township cemetery. A scholarship fund has been established in Denise’s name at the Prairie State Bank. Gifts, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Denise Gleason Art Scholarship Fund in care of the Prairie State Bank & Trust, Mt. Zion, IL.

Jean L. Goebel

Jean L. Goebel, 80, of Decatur, IL, died 8:10 P.M., Sunday, June 1, 2008, at Aspen Ridge Nursing Home, Decatur, IL.
Graveside services will be 2:30 P.M., Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at Cerro Gordo cemetery, Cerro Gordo, IL. Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Cerro Gordo, IL will be handling the arrangements.
Jean was born May 8, 1928, in Centralia, IL, the daughter of Thomas Alvin and Katherine (Fethloven) Satterlee. She married Joseph Goebel in 1954 in Mississippi. He preceded her in death in 1983.
She is survived by her children Orchid Garrett and husband William of Decatur, IL, Celeste Gentry and husband Carroll of Cerro Gordo, IL, Kathern Beinke and husband Richard of Decatur, IL, April Gower of Tulsa, OK; 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph, and grandson Joseph Tyler.

Stanley E. Goldstein

Dr. Stanley E. Goldstein, 86, of San Francisco, CA, formerly of Decatur, died Monday morning in his residence in San Francisco.
Funeral services for Dr. Goldstein will be conducted at 10:00 AM Friday, December 14, 2007, at Temple B’Nai Abraham, with family graveside services following, at Fairlawn cemetery.
Dr. Goldstein was born on September 30, 1921, in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Harry and Sylvia Mehlman Goldstein. The family later moved to Houston, Texas, where Stanley grew up. He attended the University of Texas, graduating in 1942. He then attended pharmacy school, and later the University of Texas Medical Branch, graduating in 1946. He interned at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Chicago from April 1946 to July, 1947. He then entered the U.S. Air Force, and was assigned to the Air Force Medical Corps with the 20th Air Force on Okinawa from 1947 to 1949. He then returned and also served his residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Chicago from July, 1949, to July, 1950. He also received post-graduate training at the Hektoen Institute of Cook County from January, 1950 to July, 1952.
He completed his residency in Chicago in 1952, moved to Decatur, and was appointed to the Medical Staff of Decatur and Macon County Hospital in December, 1952. He practiced internal medicine in Decatur continuously until his retirement in 1989. He had previously served as Decatur Township Health Officer and Macon County Physician. He also was a physician for the Wabash Memorial Hospital Association. In addition, Dr. Goldstein was a Federal Aviation Administration physician for pilots in the Decatur area.
He was a member of the Temple B’nai Abraham, the B’Nai Brith Lodge, the American Heart Association, including 2-times Chairman of the Macon County Heart Association, the American Medical Association, the Illinois State Medical Society, the Macon County Medical Society, was chief of general medicine at Decatur and Macon County Hospital in 1966, and was a 3rd Degree Master Mason.
He was an avid fisherman, and spent many happy times at Lake Decatur, salmon fishing in Michigan, and crappie fishing at various lakes in Tennessee.
He married Charlotte Rubenstein in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on September 20, 1953, and she survives him. He is also survived by one son: Michael (Therese) Goldstein, of San Mateo, CA, and one daughter: Barbara Goldstein, of San Jose, CA.

Richard F. Good

Richard “Dick” F. Good, 83, of Decatur, IL, went to his heavenly home at 11:30 P.M., Tuesday, November 6, 2007, at Illinois Veteran’s Home, Quincy, IL.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M., Saturday, November 10, 2007, at Life Foursquare Church, Decatur, IL, with visitation two hours prior to service time. Burial will be in Boiling Springs cemetery, Decatur, IL. Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, will be handling the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Parkinsons Foundation or Illinois Veteran’s Home, Quincy, IL.
Dick was born December 1, 1923, in Decatur, IL, the son of Harry and Fleta (Reisinger) Good. He married Eulavohne Butler on June 29, 1946 in Decatur, IL.
Dick grew up on the farm and gave up his farm deferment to serve his country in WWII. He entered the U.S. Army in January 1944 and served faithfully and proudly in Belgium and France, including Battle of the Bulge. He was a Staff Sergeant for the 709 Railway Grand Division. Dick was a member of Life Foursquare Church and served faithfully many offices in his church, having an active part in the church building program at the Foursquare Church, corner of Leafland and Warren and the church on 16th and Moore in Decatur, IL. Dick was a member of Illinois Checker Federation and a Class A Illinois Checker Champion for several years. Playing professional checkers was a large part of his life. He started the large checker board in the Decatur Celebration and enjoyed all the checker tourneys and was featured in Decatur papers many times. He enjoyed his travels and visited 15 foreign countries plus Alaska and Hawaii. He was an avid fisherman and feels he made his greatest catch in the Sea of Galilee with a small line and hook (he took in a medicine bottle) and let down on the side of the boat. Golf was also his game, playing on many leagues when he was younger and was a man of many hobbies but still his family was his greatest joy and following Him in his footsteps serving the Lord was his hearts desire. Dick was employed 6 years with U.S. Manufacturing Co. and then 33 ½ years at Borg Warner-York Division before retiring in 1986.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eulavohne of Decatur, IL; sons Dale F. Good and wife Sandra of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Dennis R. Good and wife Nancy of Mundelein, IL; grandchildren Brian C. Good of Columbus, IN, Bradley A. Good of Indianapolis, IN, Ashley B. Berndt and husband Scott of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Micah D. Good of Mundelein, IL; brother Edwin Good of Oakley, IL; sisters Thelma Lollie of Mt. Zion, IL and Alberta Stanfield of Hazelwood, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Dorothy.

Reva was born on April 19, 1928 in Ingle, Kentucky, the daughter of Ester Kissee and Emma (Beasley) Kissee.
She is survived by her daughter: Tami Crouch and husband Mike of Decatur, IL.; Son: Kenneth Baugh of Louisville, Co.; Brother: Bub Kissee and wife Shirley of Champaign, IL.; Grandchildren: Stacy Atkins and husband Rob of Mt. Zion, IL., Sean Dean and wife Michelle of St. Charles, MO., Amber Crouch of Decatur, IL. and 4 Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Caral Dean, four brothers and four sisters.
She had many friends and she loved them all, especially her cat, Tabitha.

Millie Margaret Gromoll left her earthly home and family to be welcomed into her eternal heavenly home at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 05, 2008. She was at her home in Decatur at the time of her passing. She was 58 years old.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., on Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Decatur, IL, with the Rev. Steve Hill and Dr. William Bodamer officiating. There will also be a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, at the Vandalia First Church of God, Vandalia, IL, with Pastor Tom Farris and Pastor Mike Morgan officiating. Burial will be at Greenhill cemetery in Van Burensburg, IL, following the service on Saturday. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M., on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, 2827 North Oakland Ave, Decatur, and from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, at the Vandalia First Church of God, 3001 Thrill Hill, Vandalia.
Mrs. Gromoll was born November 28, 1949, in Hillsboro, IL the daughter of Blanche (Everley) Greenwood and Clifford Raymond Greenwood. They preceded her in death. She married Dr. Henry Gromoll on June 8, 1972 in Decatur, IL. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1995. She attended Van Burensburg, Browning and Peak Elementery Schools, Central Jr. High and graduated from Vandalia Community High School in 1967. While in high school she was a member of Future Nurses of America, Future Homemakers of America, the Vandals Torch Bearers and Chorus. After high school graduation she attended Belleville Area College and Decatur School of Practical Nursing, where she earned her Licensed Practical Nursing degree in 1968. Millie continued her nursing education as a graduating member of the first nursing class at Millikin University School of Nursing in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Throughout her nursing career she held various nursing positions at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia, IL, Lincoln Manor South Nursing Home, Fairhaven Nursing Home and Woodland Nursing Home in the Decatur area. She also taught CNA and LPN classes at Decatur School District 61 where she also served as a school nurse. She taught continuing education classes in CPR and First Aid for the American Heart Association. Millie was on the nursing staff on the 5th floor at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur at the time of her diagnosis with terminal cancer.
Millie’s true passion was nursing, but she loved gardening, sailing, traveling and time with her family. She was a member of the H.O.S.A. (Health Services Assoc.), Decatur Sister Cities, Millikin Dames, Commodore Decatur Yacht Club, Sisters in Sailing, Montgomery County Farm Bureau and the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her children, Cynthia (Damon) Williams, Sharon (Daniel) Milewski, James (Maricel) Gromoll, Catherine (Claude) Harvard, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, sister, Joyce (Donald) Peterson and several nephews and nieces.
Memorials may be made to Millikin University, Millie Gromoll Nursing Fund or to the Greenhill cemetery.
