Berna Aileen (Dipper) Smick, 90, of Moweaqua, IL., died on Sunday (05-04-2008) at 12:45 AM at Fair Havens Christian Home, Decatur, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday (05-06-2008) at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will be at Fairlawn cemetery, Decatur, IL. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to: Moweaqua Public Library.
Berna was born on March 5, 1918 in Decatur, IL., the daughter of John Dipper and Mary Mae (Mathews) Dipper. She married Charles R. Smick in 1937. He passed away in 1954
She was executive secretary at J.L. Simmons Company for many years. Former member of Eastern Star, graduated from Millikin University with a teaching certificate, member of Pi Beta Phi sororiety.
Surviving: Children Charles Smick of Oconee, IL; Priscilla J. Theriot of Durham, NC; Mary Kay Wetzel of Huntington Beach CA; John P Smick and wife Judy of Moweaqua, IL seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
preceded in death by her parents, husband-Charles R. Smick, one brother W A Dipper and granddaughter Judy.

Charles LeVerne Smith

Charles LeVerne Smith, 78, of Decatur, passed away at 9:55 a.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 10, at Woodland Chapel Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Jack Pitzer officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday, February 9 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home. Burial will be in Friends Creek cemetery, Argenta, with military rites conducted by the Army Honor Guard.
Memorials may be made to Woodland Chapel Presbyterian Church.
Charles was born on December 24, 1929, in Grays, S.C., the son of Joe Lee and Nora Elizabeth Smith. He married Caroline Joan Etchison on October 2, 1955, in Decatur.
Charles enlisted in the Air Force on July 12, 1951, and was separated at Camp Kilmer, N.J. on June 9, 1955. He was in the Air Force Reserve from June 10, 1955 until April 19, 1961. Charles transferred from the Air Force Reserve to the Army Reserves on April 20, 1961. He was in the Army Reserves until he retired on December 24, 1989.
Charles was a member of Woodland Presbyterian Church and served as Deacon and Elder.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Caroline of Decatur; children Cheryl Clark and husband Charles of Argenta, IL; Craig Smith and wife Kris of Lynchburg, S.C.; Michele Southerd and husband Gary of Bloomington, IL; Todd Smtih and wife Michelle of Cambridge, IL; 10 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; brothers Everett Smith and wife Edna of Grays, S.C.; William Smith and wife Johnnie of Grays, S.C.; and sister Sarah Grooms of Charlotte, N.C.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, and 6 brothers and sisters.
Chuck was devoted to his family and loved to make friends. After spending just a few moments with him, you were no longer a stranger.

Hildred Louise Smith

Hildred Louise Smith, 95, of Monticello, passed away at 3:02 a.m. Sunday, April 13, 2008, at Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello, IL.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, with the Rev. Michael Eischem presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time on Tuesday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairlawn cemetery, Decatur.
Memorials may be made to Piatt County Nursing Home or to Carle Hospice Champaign.
Hildred was born on July 17, 1912, in Argenta, the daughter of Edward and Florence (Augustus) Ashton. She married Byron Bower in 1944. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1949. In 1959 she married Harold D. Smith. He preceded her in death on November 15, 1991.
Hildred was a 1934 graduate of Decatur Macon County Nursing School as a Registered Nurse. She worked private duty nursing in the local area and hospitals in Decatur. Hildred was on the staff at Wabash Employee Hospital, Decatur, retiring in 1968. She was a member of the Alumna Association of Decatur Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.
Hildred was a resident of Decatur until 1990 when she and Harold moved to the Windsor of Savoy in Savoy, IL.
Surviving are her sister Charlene Burdick of Monticello; niece Carol (Tim) Towner and their sons Zachary, Christian, and Isaac; nephews Steven (Carol Ann) Burdick of Kent, WA; Paul (Michael Valdez) Burdick of Fennville, MI; and John Burdick of Los Angeles, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands.

Ruth M. Snyder

Ruth M. Snyder, 86, of Decatur, passed away at 4:55 p.m., Sunday, March 16, 2008, in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 20, in Mt. Gilead cemetery, Decatur. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Make A Wish Foundation.
Mrs. Snyder was born February 11, 1922, in St. Jacob, IL, the daughter of Hubert and Freda Ruff. She married Leroy (PeeWee) Snyder on December 17, 1939.
Mrs. Snyder was a homemaker and a member of the Women’s Auxiliary VFW Post #99. She was an avid Cub fan and enjoyed watching bowling.
Surviving are her daughter Terry Ernst and husband Harry, son Butch Snyder and wife Diana, daughter Betty Cary and husband Gail; five grandchildren, Rusty Ernst and Tammy, Larry Ernst and Tammy, John Snyder and Andrea, Tony Snyder and friend Melissa, Keely Fiore and Joe; step grandsons Troy Cary, Todd and Michelle Cary; eight great grandchildren, Justin and Jared Ernst, Christopher and Kaylee Ernst, Joseph, Vincent and Romelia Fiore, and Emma Snyder; step great grandchildren, Zachary and Breanna Cary, and Kyla, Mason and Cole Cary.
Mrs. Snyder was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, two sisters, and twin granddaughers.

Gary David Spaugh, 56, of Decatur, IL, died 9:40 A.M., Wednesday, December 26, 2007, at his residence.
Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 29, 2007, at Boiling Springs cemetery, Decatur, IL. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M., Friday, December 28, at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. The family requests casual attire for the visitation and the graveside services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Donor’s Choice.
Gary was born October 4, 1951 in Decatur, IL, the son of David William Spaugh and Janet Marlene (Hazlet) Lawton. He was a self employed painter, coin collector and loved music. Gary was a Chicago Bear Fan and loved spending time with his family. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam war.
He is survived by his mom and dad Janet and Dennis Lawton of Decatur, IL; father David W. Spaugh of Decatur, IL; sisters Cathy Stalker and husband Jim of Decatur, IL, Patty Schubert and husband Robert of Mt. Zion, IL; brother Randy Spaugh and wife Kathy of Decatur, IL; special nieces and nephews Tracy Gottman, Natalie Stocks, Nathan Wickline, Nicole Wickline, Tiffany Revelins, Randy Spaugh, Jr., Justin Henington; great nieces and nephews Samantha, Andrew, Evan, Kolton, Sierra, Dakota, Haiden, special cousins, and he was a longtime and faithful friend of Bill W.
He was preceded in death by several Grandparents including his special Grandma Ola, and nephew Denny Binkley.
Gary was loved very much by his family and friends. He will be missed.

Betty E. Stalker

Betty E. Stalker, 89, of Decatur, passed away at 6:20 a.m., Saturday, October 27, 2007 at McKinley Court Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, with visitation 6-8 p.m., Monday, October 29 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, IL. The family requests casual attire.
Betty was born on May 2, 1918, in Decatur, the daughter of Royal V. and Reva A. (Marshall) Price. She married James W. Stalker on July 11, 1938, in Indianapolis, IN.
Betty was a member of First United Methodist Church, The Garden Club, Eastern Star, and Job’s Daughters. She enjoyed cross stitch and crocheted many items for family and friends.
Surviving are her son James A. Stalker and wife Cathy; daughter Alice Stalker, all of Decatur, IL; sister Marlene S. Lattner and husband Douglas of Mt. Prospect, IL; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim, daughter Linda Sue, son Stephen Paul, sister Marjorie Clapp, and a grandson.
Betty was a very loved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She will be deeply missed by all.

Donna L. Steffen

Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at the Greenwood cemetery.
Memorials have been suggested to the Donna L. Steffen Fund. Arrangements by Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home.
Donna was born, May 29, 1945, in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Arbie and Mary (Owens) Crissup. She later married Charles H. Steffen March 12, 1977 in Decatur, IL.
Donna was a homemaker in her own home and enjoyed playing Bingo, Crossword Puzzles and Word Search. She also liked to watch cooking shows on the Food Network.
Donna is survived by her husband, Charles; one daughter, Tina M. Burris of Decatur; one granddaughter, Amber Burris of Decatur; one great grandson, Nicholas Ellis of Decatur; one sister, Audrey (Homer) Johnson of Decatur and close family friends Lucinda Miller and Juanita Miller both of Decatur.
She was preceded in death by both parents, twin brothers, another brother and one sister.

Harold F. Stengel

Harold F. “Lucky” Stengel, Jr., 44, of Decatur, passed away at 12:35 a.m. Sunday, February 3, 2008 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 8, at Old Stonington cemetery, Stonington, IL. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes, Decatur, are assisting the family with the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Old Stonington Baptist Church or to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago.
Lucky was born on November 20, 1963, in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Harold Stengel Sr. and Margaret (Hamm) Stengel. He was a member of Old Stonington Baptist Church. Lucky graduated from Richland Community College with an Associates Degree in Social Services. He worked as an assistant manager at Radio Shack in Decatur and previously worked as a security guard for Tate & Lyle.
Surviving are his mother Margaret Stengel of Decatur, IL; brother Anthony Stengel of Decatur, IL; sisters Laura Klien of Springfield, IL; Elizabeth Stengel of Decatur, IL; brother Michael (wife, Erin) Stengel of Mauston, WI; sister Elana Stengel of Decatur, IL; brother Eugene Stengel of Marion, IL; several nieces and nephews.
Lucky was preceded in death by his grandparents, father, and sisters Joyce, Maria, and Rebecca.
