September 14, 1917 - February 14, 2011

Mildred I. Roberts, 93, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away Monday February 14, 2011 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville, IL. She was born September 14, 1917 in Lawrence County, IL the daughter of Gordon and Metta (Havill) Childress. On December 27, 1938 she married Glen Roberts. He preceded her in death on March 3, 1988. Mildred worked as a registered Nurse, and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Bethany Christian Church in Sumner, IL. Survivors include a son: James A. Roberts of Sumner, IL, a daughter: Sandra S. Roberts of Lawrenceville, IL, a brother: Don E. and his wife Dixie Childress of Houston, TX, 2 sisters: Rayburn Childress Seitzinger of Evansville, IN, Freida Childress Bolton of Evansville, IN, 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Along with her husband, a daughter Glenda Kay Roberts, 2 brothers, a sister, and a grandchild are deceased. The funeral will be Friday at 10:00am at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Pollard cemetery. Visitation is Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be given to the Bethany Christian Church.

PAULINE P. FERRY
April 12, 1943 - May 14, 2013

Pauline P. Ferry, age 70, of Sumner, IL, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at her residence. She was born April 12, 1943 in Saguache, Colorado, the daughter of Salvador and Mary (Martinez) Maez.

Pauline worked as an order filler for Blair Catalog (women’s clothing) . She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Landes.

Preceding Pauline in death were her parents and two sisters.

Survivors include four sons, Albert Archuleta of Colorado Springs, CO, Nick (Anita) Archuleta of Youngsville, PA, Terry Archuleta of Colorado Springs, CO and Michael Archuleta of Denver, CO; one daughter Juanita Figueroa of Colorado Springs, CO; one brother Raymond Maez of Leavenworth, KS; two sisters Maxine Lopez of San Jose, CA and Sherri Angle of rural Sumner, IL; and nine grandchildren Devina Archuleta, Christina Jackson, Angela Valedon, Tommy Archuleta, Carlitos Figueroa, Jason Archuleta, Mike Archuleta, Jacob Archuleta, and Josh Archuleta, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild along with several loving nephews, nieces, and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Saturday at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner.

Visitation will be from 12:00 (noon) to 1:00 pm at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Waggoner West cemetery, north of Chauncey.

KEVIN LEE KIMMEL
October 27, 1976 - May 28, 2013

Kevin Lee Kimmel, age 36, of Carbondale, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2013, in Wayne County, Illinois. He was born October 27, 1976, in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Dennis and Judy (Rosborough) Kimmel. He married Tracy Greten and she survives.

Besides his wife, other survivors include his parents, Dennis and Judy Kimmel of Sumner, Illinois, a daughter Kaitlyn Leeann Kimmel of Carbondale, and maternal grandmother Ruth Wilzbacher.

Kevin was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bob Rosborough and Robert and Ruby Kimmel.

Kevin worked at GFI Digital (Gibbs Family Internal Digital) . He was a graduate of Red Hill High School, who obtained his Associate Degree in Architectural Drafting through Lincoln Trail College in Robinson, Illinois, a Bachelor Degree in Architectural Studies and a Bachelor Degree in Information Systems Technology, both from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois.

Kevin enjoyed outdoor grilling, fishing, playing pool, baseball, basketball, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.

Funeral services will be at 1 PM Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner.

Visitation will be from 11 AM until 1 PM Saturday, June 1, 2013, at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Cresthaven Memorial Park cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the ASPCA (American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital with envelopes available through the funeral home.

BEVERLY J. EARNST
September 5, 1947 - May 23, 2013

Beverly June Earnst, age 65, of Flora, IL (formerly of Sumner) , passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Clay County Hospital in Flora. She was born September 5, 1947, in Sumner, IL, the daughter of Emerson and Violet June (Inyart) Earnst. She was raised by her mother and grandmother, Grace Sparks.

Beverly was a homemaker who loved her dogs.

Preceding Beverly in death were her parents, her grandmother, her aunts Gladys Brock and Roberta Andrews.

She is survived by many cousins and a friend, Debbie Gunzel.

The body was cremated. Private services were conducted.

DOROTHY M. TUCKER
April 16, 1922 - May 20, 2013

Dorothy Mae Tucker, age 91, of Robinson, IL (formerly of Lawrence County) passed away Monday, May 20, 2013, at Cotillion Ridge in Robinson. She was born April 16, 1922, in Lawrence County, Illinois, the daughter of Levy and Anna-Belle (Shamley) Earnest. She married Charles Tucker and he preceded her in death.

Dorothy was a homemaker. She attended the 6th Street Weslyan Church and the Calvary Apostolic Church in Lawrenceville.

Besides her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, four brothers, one sister and one great-grandchild.

Survivors include one son, Dale (Kathy) Tucker of Orlando, FL; three daughters, Joann (George) Lewis of Lawrenceville, Annette (Michael) Akers of Bridgeport and Susan Kay (Jim) Wells of Lawrenceville; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 PM Thursday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in May Chapel cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Lawrence County Humane Society or the Lawrence County Senior Citizens with envelopes available through the funeral home.

Samuel H Brookhart
May 2, 1914 - May 24, 2013

Samuel H. Brookhart, R. R. #3, Sumner, Illinois, died Friday, May 24, 2013, at the Lawrence Community Healthcare Center. Samuel was born May 2, 1914, the son of William Lee and Carrie Alice (Legg) Brookhart, Lawrence County, Illinois. He married Martha Cunningham on December 25, 1939, and she preceded him in death on March 19, 2013. He graduated from Sumner High School and Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s degree, playing both football and basketball as a student there.

Samuel was a teacher, combat soldier, farmer, religious, civic and political leader. He taught for 44 years in Lawrence County schools, was Principal of Petrolia and Petty schools for many of those years, and coached many winning basketball teams. He was a World War II Army Veteran, commissioned to the rank of First Lieutenant while serving in France and Germany. Samuel and Martha were members of the Sumner Congregational Christian Church, where he was a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. Samuel was active in the Republican Party and served as County Chairman for many years.

Samuel is survived by his daughter Ann Eubank, son–in-law Arthur A. Eubank, Jr. of Evanston, IL; grandsons Arthur Andrew Eubank, III of Chicago, IL, Samuel David (wife Samantha) Eubank of Seattle, WA & Matthew Brookhart (wife Angela) Eubank of Chicago, IL.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, four brothers; Ivan, Charles, James, Edward and one sister Judith Petty.

We are thankful for his life and the positive influence he had on countless others. Funeral services will be at 1 pm Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the Sumner Congregational Christian Church in Sumner, IL. Visitation will be Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, IL. Burial will be in the Sumner City cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the VFW and American Legion.

Alisha Kay Pinkstaff
June 19, 2007
Alisha Kay Pinkstaff, age 19, of rural Lawrenceville, passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville. Born October 11, 1987, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Brian Pinkstaff of Vincennes, IN and Becky (Larrison) Pinkstaff of rural Lawrenceville.

Alisha attended Vincennes University and worked part-time at McDonald's in Lawrenceville. She graduated from Red Hill High School in 2006 where she had been a cheerleader.

She was a member of the Island Free Methodist Church.

She enjoyed riding four-wheelers and hanging out with her friends and her sister.

She is survived by her mother Becky (Larrison) Pinkstaff of rural Lawrenceville, her father, Brian Pinkstaff of Vincennes, stepfather Rick Vanschoyck of rural Lawrenceville, three sisters Allison Vanschoyck of rural Lawrenceville, Kendall Pinkstaff and Marlee Pinkstaff of Fayetteville, NC, maternal grandmother Alice Plunkett of Yale, IL and step-grandmother Betty Larrison of Lawrenceville, paternal grandparents Bob and Janet Wininger of Vincennes, IN, Kenneth and Vickie Pinkstaff of rural Lawrenceville, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather Lowell Larrison, a maternal aunt, and a maternal uncle.

The visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville. The funeral will be on Friday at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City cemetery in Lawrenceville, IL.

Memorial donations may be made to the family to help with expenses.

Rosa E. Zehner
June 15, 2007
Rosa E. Zehner, 80, of Claremont, IL passed away Friday June 15, 2007 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.

Born March 8, 1927 in Princeton, IN she was the daughter of Joseph and Annie (Johnson) Foster.

On July 19, 1942 she married Clarence "Pete" Zehner. He died January 11, 2001.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Vincennes. She was a devoted mother and housewife.

She is survived by 3 sons: Roger (Edna) Zehner of Claremont, IL, Tandy (Judy) Zehner of Claremont, IL, Rick Zehner of Olney, IL, 2 daughters: Cathy (Joe) Zuber of Claremont, IL, Darlene (Dunae) BeauLieu of Olney, IL, and 8 grandchildren.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:00am at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Visitation is Monday from 6 to 8PM. Burial will be in the Cresthaven Memorial Park cemetery.

Memorial Donations may be given to Good Samaritan Hospice or to St. Joseph Catholic School in Olney.

Irene E. Hovermale
June 14, 2007
Irene E. Hovermale, age 92, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away at 12:10 AM Thursday, June 14, 2007 at the Lawrence Community Healthcare Center in Bridgeport. Born July 11, 1914, she was the daughter of Lee E. and Lucinda (Pond) Stevens. She married John L. Hovermale on January 20, 1934 and he preceded her in death on February 28, 1998.

She is survived by two sons Ronald Hovermale of Springfield, IL and John S. Hovermale of Lawrenceville; two daughters Karen Holmes of Lawrenceville and Rita Roan of Battlecreek, MI; 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and four brothers.

Mrs. Hovermale retired from Golden Rule Insurance after 15 years where she was a Claims Adjustor. She was a member of the Four Square Church in Vincennes, IN (affiliated with the Central Christian Church in Lawrenceville, IL.)

The funeral will be held Sunday at 2:00 PM at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, IL. Visitation will be on Saturday from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the May Chapel cemetery east of Lawrenceville.
Memorial donations may be given to the St. Francesville Christian Academy.
