HAROLD A. YORK
SEPTEMBER 29, 2008

Harold A. York, 85, of rural Lawrenceville passed away September 29, 2008 at the United Methodist Village North Campus.

He was born December 7, 1922 in Crawford County, IL, the son of James Albert and Bessie (Wasson) York.

Harold was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville. He also attended Calvary Apostolic Church in Lawrenceville.
Harold retired from the Good Samaritan Hospital Maintenance Department. He served in the United States Marines, 1st Marines Division during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.

Survivors include his second wife Mary Lue (Sumner) York of rural Lawrenceville; three sons Terry and Joy York of Hudson, OH, Richard York of Lawrenceville, Craig and Deb York of Bridgeport; four step-daughters Pam McCammon of Vincennes, IN, Marcia Siebert of St. Petersburg, FL, Julie and Bill Lockhart of rural Lawrenceville, Janice and Gary Stoltz of Mt. Carmel, IL; six grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Helen (Ridgely) York, three brothers and two sisters.

The funeral will be Thursday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville with burial to follow in the Lawrenceville City cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice, the American Heart Association, or to Operation Christmas Child.

DAVID L. HIGGINS
SEPTEMBER 23, 2008

David L. Higgins, 67, of Lawrenceville passed away Tuesday September 23, 2008 at his residence.

He was born in Crawford County, IL on April 28, 1941 the son of Samuel Allen and Gleda (Akers) Higgins.

David served 20 years in the United States Army, including 2 Tours of Duty in Vietnam. He then worked as a mechanic at Akin Seed Company for 22 years. He was a member of the VFW, Elks, Moose, and the Eagles.

Survivors include a son: Jeff Higgins of Fayetteville, NC, a daughter: Gayla Smith of Saugatuck, MI, 2 brothers: Bill Higgins of Lawrenceville, IL, Marlin Higgins of Lawrenceville, IL, 2 sisters: Mary Moore of Lawrenceville, IL, Donna Kay Stevenson of Woodstock, GA, 4 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. 4 brothers and 2 sisters are deceased.

The funeral will be Saturday at 10:00am at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Charlottsville cemetery where Military Rites will be conducted. Visitation is Friday from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society.

MICHEAL THOMAS KIRKLAND
SEPTEMBER 21, 2008

Michael Thomas Kirkland, 53, of Sumner, IL passed away Sunday afternoon at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital.

Born January 27, 1955 in Thomaston, GA, he was the son of Thomas Edison and Mary Catherine (McKinley) Kirkland. Following the death of his mother, he was raised by Opal (Stout) Kirkland. On June 18, 1976 he married Susan Wright. She survives.

Mike was a Supervisor at Jabat INC. in Olney, IL. He was a member of the Chauncey Church of God.

Survivors include: a son: Shawn (Stephanie) Kirkland of Olney, IL, a daughter: Misty Kirkland of Vincennes, IN, 2 sisters: Debra Rosborough of Sumner, IL, Donna Strom of Thomaston, GA, a grandfather: James H. McKinley of Thomaston, GA, and 3 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, and a nephew: Cody Rosborough.

The funeral will be Thursday at 11:00am at the Chauncey Church of God with burial to follow at the Chauncey cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home.

Memorial donations may be given to the Chauncey Church of God.

LORETTA JEAN OBENCHAIN HUMM
SEPTEMBER 18, 2008

Loretta Jean Obenchain Humm, 67, of Bridgeport, IL passed away Thursday September 18, 2008 at her residence.

Born October 21, 1940 in Lawrence County, IL she was the daughter of George W. and Wilma Loretta (Thompson) Obenchain.

She is survived by a brother: Roger & Janice Obenchain of Arvada, CO.

Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 11:00am at the Centerville cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 10:00 to 10:30am at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Burial is at Centerville cemetery.

OLIVE R. YORK
SEPTEMBER 18, 2008

Olive R. York, 81, of rural Lawrenceville, IL passed away Thursday, September 18, 2008 at the United Methodist Village.

She was born August 10, 1927 in Lawrence County, the daughter of Ell and Della (Poland) Waggoner. She married George Robert "Bob" York on June 2, 1950 and he passed away March 11, 2007.

Olive was a homemaker and a member of the Island Free Methodist Church.

She is survived by one son, Doug and Anita York of Lawrenceville; one daughter Peggy and Ed Turner of Lawrenceville; one sister Elouise Westall of Noble, IL; and three grandchildren Abbie and Chris Cochran, Sally and Justin Daugherty, and Nikki and Joe Brown.

Olive was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers, and one sister.

The funeral will be Saturday at 12:00 (noon) at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, IL.
Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 am until the hour of service at 12:00 noon at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Island Free Methodist Church Parsonage through the funeral home.

AVIS R. HODGE
SEPTEMBER 11, 2008

Avis R. Hodge, 90, of Sumner, IL passed away Thursday, September 11, 2008 at her residence.

She was born April 30, 1918 in Michigan, the daughter of Harry and Lena (Brownell) Benjamin. In October of 1941, she married Harold Hodge, who passed away in July, 1980.

She was a homemaker and she was affiliated with the Union Chapel Church.

She was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed watching the Chicago Bulls and the Chicago Bears as well. She also enjoyed playing cards and going camping.

Avis is survived by one son James L. (Rita) Hodge of Grayslake, IL; three daughters Norreta K. (John) Gray of rural Sumner, IL, Sandra Haaff of Bruceville, IN (whose husband James C. Haaff is deceased) , Kathryn (Nelson) Lemeron of rural Flat Rock, IL; one adopted granddaughter Kristi K. (Gary) Kocher of rural Lawrenceville; and nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one granddaughter and three sisters.

The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 pm at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner. Burial will be in the Sumner cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 12:00 noon until the hour of service at 2:00 pm at the funeral home.

DOROTHY O. BIEHL
SEPTEMBER 12, 2008

Dorothy O. Biehl, 94, of Vincennes, IN passed away Friday September 12, 2008 at Bridgepointe Health Campus in Vincennes.

She was born February 7, 1914 in Bridgeport, IL the daughter of Lewis and Daisey (Faith) Cox. On August 31, 2931 she married Herman Biehl. He preceded her in death on March 26, 1992.

She was a homemaker, and she was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Christian Church.

She is survived by 2 sons: Harold Curtis (Janice) Biehl of Chiefland, FL, Samuel Lewis (Ann) Biehl of Gainesville, FL, 5 daughters: Carol Sue (Bob) Mills of El Cajon, CA, Betty Lou (Leonard Francis) Ferriell of Vincennes, IN, Janet (Bob) Fielden of Lawrenceville, IL, Sheron (Lester) Garman of Grayville, IL, Beverly Jean (Bill) Erton of Ocala, FL, a sister: Wanda Hudspeth of Bridgeport, IL, 26 grandchildren, and 42 great-grandchildren. Along with her parents and husband, a son, Donald Lee, four brothers and two sisters are deceased.

The funeral will be Monday at 11:00am at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Billett cemetery. Visitation is Sunday from 5 to 7PM at the funeral home.

ROBERT B. WORSTELL
SEPTEMBER 3, 2008

Robert B. Worstell, 30, of Sumner, IL passed away Wednesday September 3, 2008 at his residence.

He was born December 11, 1977 in Olney, IL the son of Ray and Vieda (Russell) Worstell. He was married to Miranda Schilling.

He was a mechanic for Jack's Repair in Sumner, IL. He was a member of the Chauncey Church of God.

Along with his wife, he is survived by a son: Robert B, . Worstell of Dyer, IN, two daughters: Isabelle Worstell of Dyer, IN, Abigail Worstell of Dyer, IN, 2 brothers: Norman Ray Worstell of Lawrenceville, IL, Charles Worstell of Robinson, IL, 6 sisters: Christine Brack Tewell of Chauncey, IL, Teresa Ann Smith of Washington, IL, Lou Ann Tewell of Claremont, IL, Norma Lancaster of Lawrenceville, IL, Patty Clark of Vincennes, IN, and Peggy Worstell of Robinson, IL.

The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00pm at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville. Burial will follow at the Bridgeport City cemetery. Visitation is also on Sunday from 12 Noon to the service hour of 2:00pm.
