Edward Harrison

Edward Dwight 'Ed' Harrison, 78, of Mt. Vernon died 8:55 a.m. Jan. 12, 2000, at St. Mary's/Good Samaritan, Mt. Vernon. Mr. Harrison proudly served the City of Mt. Vernon Fire Department for 30 years, serving as chief for the last seven years until his retirement in 1978. He was born April 19, 1921, in Franklin County to Charles Edward and Stella (Jones) Harrison. He married Gretta Fay Pitchford on March 21, 1942, in Jackson, Mo.; she survives. Services will be held 3 p.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home, with the Revs. Garlin Burris and Keith Hall officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill cemetery in Sesser. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. A walk-through service will be held 8 p.m. today at the funeral home by Mt. Vernon Fire and Police departments, Jefferson County Sheriff Department and Litton Ambulance Service medical personnel. In addition to his wife, Mr. Harrison is survived by a son, Larry E. and wife Gloria Jean 'Jeanie' Harrison of Mt. Vernon; three grandchildren, Shanna Poole and husband Shawn of Opdyke and Kara Harrison and Cort Edward Harrison, both of Mt. Vernon; a brother, Oren Harrison and wife Maxine of Murphysboro; two sisters, Doris Stover of Mt. Vernon and Dorothy Henry and husband Mack of Mt. Vernon; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Pitchford of Mt. Vernon and Betty Harrison of Mt. Vernon; and a large number of loved nieces and nephews. Mr. Harrison was a member of Southside Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher at the church for many years, and a trustee of the church until his death. He was also a member of Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge 31 AF & AM and a lifetime member of the Coal Belt Fire Association. Mr. Harrison was instrumental in laying the groundwork for the water service extensions and loops which the city enjoys today. He also guided the Fire Department into the advanced emergency medical service, which the department proudly continues to perform for Mt. Vernon citizens. Mr. Harrison achieved his greatest goal with the building and manning of the city fire station located at the Mt. Vernon airport. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William 'Bill' Harrison and Jewell Harrison; and three sisters, Jamac Curry, Aleen Wilson and Ileta Wilson. Blanche Hart

Blanche M. Hart, 84, of Taylorville, formerly of McLeansboro, died 6:20 p.m. Jan. 11, 2000, at Taylorville Care Center. Mrs. Hart was a housewife. She was born April 28, 1915, in Union City, Ind., to Onie and Mattie (Cell) Cline. She married Ottie V. Hart on May 2, 1941; he died in 1978. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Delafield Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Deitz officiating. Burial will be in Crysel cemetery, near Dahlgren. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the service time Saturday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Survivors include a son, Kenneth Hart and wife Janice of Taylorville; a daughter, Judy Lambert and husband Doug of Centralia; grandchildren Sherra Johnson and husband Andy of Marissa, Jeffrey Hart and wife Cindy of Lisle, Matthew Hart of Taylorville, Doug Lambert and wife Ila of Centralia, and Julie Lambert of Centralia; three great-grandchildren, Austin and Cali Johnson and Abbi Lambert; two brothers, Warren Cline and wife Dorothy and Wayne Cline, all of Union City, Ind.; a sister, Phyllis Girton of Winchester, Ind.; and a brother-in-law, Clyde Davis of Greens Fork, Ind. Mrs. Hart was a member of Delafield Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Madge Shumaker and Doris Davis. Pearl Wilson

Pearl C. Wilson, 83, of Woodlawn died 2:20 a.m. Jan. 13, 2000, at Casey Care Center in Mt. Vernon. Mrs. Wilson was a seamstress at the Mode-O-Day Dress Factory for many years until retirement. She was born Aug. 22, 1916, in Hamilton County to Jesse and Eva (Goss) McMahon. She married William W. 'Woody' Wilson on June 29, 1940, in St. Charles, Mo.; he died Jan. 4, 1994. Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home, with Bruce H. Hough, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Mount Catherine cemetery, rural Woodlawn. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Douthit and husband Charles of Dix and LaVern Wiese and husband Gene of Nashville; three sons, Charles Ray McMahon and wife Jennie of Chillicothe, Donald W. Wilson and wife LaLetta of Carterville, and James E. Wilson and wife Peggy of Oblong; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Champ of Woodlawn, Ruby Pfolsgrof and husband Bill of Woodlawn, and Goldie Morris of Centralia; three brothers, Bill McMahon and wife Wilma of Mt. Vernon, John McMahon and wife Betty of Lacon, and Roy McMahon and wife Nancy of Peoria; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Wilson was a member of Woodlawn Christian Church and also attended Mount Catherine Christian Church. She was also a member of the Woodlawn Rebekah Lodge for many years. Mrs. Wilson was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was very proud of all her family. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Joyce Ann Wilson; one brother; and one sister. Memorials may be made to Mount Catherine cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home. Vivian Bateman

Vivian Bateman, 77, of Carbondale, formerly of the Boyd area in Jefferson County, died 9:55 a.m. Jan. 12, 2000, at Carbondale Nursing & Rehab Center. She was born May 1, 1922, in Boyd to Luther and Opal (Dodson) Bateman.
She never married .
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the Boyd cemetery, with Bruce Hough officiating.
Friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery on Friday.
There will be no visitation.
Survivors include two brothers, Lyman Bateman of Brookport and Glenn Bateman of Pinedale, Wyo., and two sisters, Esther DeJesus of Mt. Vernon and Venita Runkle of Sacramento, Calif.
She was a member of Boyd Pentecostal Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, William Bateman; and two sisters, Wanda Love and Mildred Pressey.
Osborn Funeral Home in Dix is in charge of arrangements.

George Morgan

George R. 'Bob' Morgan, 73, of Mt. Vernon died 12:20 a.m. Jan. 13, 2000, at St. Mary's/Good Samaritan, Mt. Vernon.

Jesse Rose

Jesse Rose, 81, of Springerton died 8:53 p.m. Jan. 12, 2000, at St. Mary's/Good Samaritan, Mt. Vernon.

Funeral arrangements were pending this morning at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.

Marie Sanders

Marie Sanders, 87, of St. John, Ind., formerly of Centralia, died Jan. 11, 2000, at her daughter's home in St. John.

Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at I.O.O.F. cemetery in Woodlawn.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Pacey Funeral Home in Centralia.

Wilson "Red" E. Baker

LEAF RIVER - Wilson "Red" E. Baker, 77, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000 at Rockford Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 3, 1923 in Prairie Du Chien, Wis., the son of Barny and Lila (Wickham) Baker.

He graduated from Leaf River High School in 1941.

He married Agnes Hartje on Feb. 14, 1946 in Leaf River.

He worked for Teslow Garage in Rockford for 30 years, and Winnebago County Building Inspector for 10 years retiring in 1988.

He was a World War II U.S Marine Corp Veteran serving in the 4th Division, Company E, 2nd Patallion, 24th Regiment, serving at Iuo Jima in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Rockford Detachment Marine Corp League, a 50-year member and sergeant at Arms of Jerry Wickam American Legion in Leaf River. He was a member of the Leaf River United Methodist Church and Leaf River Historical Society.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Emerson Baker and sister, Marge Smith.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Agnes; son, Phillip (Pat) Baker of Loveland, Ohio; two daughter, Cathy (Tony) Sisto of Barrington and Janet (Dr. Edward) Raczka of Littleton, Colo.; two sisters, Ruby "Sig: Skogsberg of Shell Knob, Mo. and Peral Bowers of Mt. Morris; seven grandchildren, Erin and Lauren Baker, Ethan, Meghan and Lindsay Raczka, Anthony and Joel Sisto; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 6 at the Leaf River United Methodist Church with the Rev. Travis Bonnette-Kim of the Church and Rev. Randy Newton of the Leaf River Baptist Church officiating. Burial is at Chapel Hill cemetery in Freeport with military honors. Visitation is from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 506 W. Merchant St., Byron, IL. 61010. A memorial fund has been established.

Viola M. Bracconier

OREGON - Viola M. Bracconier, 79, formerly of the Oregon-Mt. Morris area, died Wednesday, Oct. 4 in Franklin Grove Nursing Home.

She was born Feb. 4, 1921 in La Animas, Colo., the daughter of Earl and Peryl Long Oxley Noffsinger. She married Amos Moudy in 1941 in San Diego, Calif. He preceded her in death in 1970. She then married Steve Bracconier in 1976 in Los Angeles, Calif. He preceded her in death on March 1, 1999.

She also previously lived in California, where she was employed by Convair Aircraft, San Diego many years then employed by Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, retiring in 1985.

She is survived by a step-daughter, Jacqueline Gillette of Aliance, Ohio; brothers, Earl (Lillian) Noffsinger of La Habla, Calif., and Frank (Gerry) Noffsinger of Byron; sisters, Wava (John II) Nickerson of Lake Helen, Fla. and Dorothy (Neil) Grover of Ashton.

Also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Charles Noffsinger.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 9 in Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon, with Rev. Jerry Clark, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Oregon, officiating. Burial in West Branch cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Monday in the funeral home.

Ralph Zimmermann

MT. MORRIS - Ralph Zimmermann, 78, Mt. Morris, died at 7:10 p.m. on Sept. 18, 2000 in O.S.F. St. Anthony Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 4, 1922, the son of William and Lena Zimmermann.

He married Frances Gebardt on Aug. 21, 1943 in Chicago.

He was a design and display engineer for Hartwig and Design, until retiring.

Survivors are his wife, Frances; son, Richard Zimmermann; daughter, Pat Korinek of Sycamore; 11 grandchildren, Joseph, Jonathon, William, Heather, Michael, Christina, Heidi, Marissa, Steven, Richard and Scott; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon and John Jr. Services were private. Perry Funeral Home and Crematory, 6825 Weaver Road, assisted the family.

Evalyn M. Bond

Evalyn M. Bond, 79, of Mt. Vernon died 2:19 p.m. Dec. 22, 2001, at St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield, Mo. She was a bookkeeper for Lincoln Farm Management for many years. Mrs. Bond was born Sept. 30, 1922, in Ellery to Edward and Nettie M. (Fewkes) Longbons. She married C.L. "Vern" Bond Oct. 9, 1944, in Albion; he survives. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Central Christian Church. Mr. Randy Sells and Mr. J. Howard Kraps will officiate. Burial will be at Graceland cemetery in Albion. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and until time of services Thursday at Central Christian Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Cheryl E. Adkins and husband Larry of Belleville and Mary Alice Winson and husband Richard of Terre Haute, Ind.; five grandchildren, David Winson and wife Gretchen, Alica Edwards and husband Chad, Michelle Franklin and husband Jason, Lisa Struewing and husband Josh and Kristen Adkins; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Gerald Longbons and wife Leatrice, Roy Longbons and wife Pat and Doyle Longbons and wife Dixie, all of Albion; and several nieces and nephews. She was a long time member of Central Christian Church. She was a member of the Dorcas Circle Ministry where she was the coordinator of dinners for bereaved families. She was the treasurer of the Lois Morse Guild for 20 years. She was chairperson for the Carmi Care Center Auxiliary. She was the treasurer of the Upper Bracket at Central Christian Church. She was an avid worker in the birthday card ministry. She worked with the food pantry and soup kitchen. Mrs. Bond was treasurer of the American Association of Retired Persons. Mrs. Bond was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, James Edward Longbons; and a sister, Mary Clark. Memorial contributions may be made to the missions program at Central Christian Church and will be accepted at the funeral home or church, or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home at P.O. Box 721, Mt. Curtis Bryant

Curtis Bryant, 75, of Dix died 3 p.m. Dec. 20, 2001, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion.
Mr. Bryant was born March 13, 1926, in Carroll County, Miss. to Preston and Eliza (McKane) Bryant.
Mr. Bryant served in the U.S. Army during Word War II.
Graveside services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Old Covenanter cemetery near Walnut Hill.
There will be no visitation.
Friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery Thursday.

Morrison "Moe" Bumpus

Morrison "Moe" Bumpus, 68, of Bluford died 11 p.m. Dec. 23, 2001, at his home.
He was employed for 32 years at Pontiac Chair Co. of Pontiac, as an upholsterer.
Mr. Bumpus was born June 24, 1933, in Bonnie to Albert Bumpus and Katie (Jinkins) Bumpus.
He married Dorothy J. Runyon June 24, 1959, in Pontiac; she survives.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home.
The Rev. Brian Palmer will officiate.
Burial will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens.
Military flag presentation services will be conducted by the chaplain of American Legion Post 141 of Mt. Vernon.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Bumpus is survived by two sons, David M. Bumpus and wife Roberta of Centralia and Doug M. Bumpus and wife Sherri of Normal; a daughter, Diane M. Fox and husband Jamie of Bluford; 11 grandchildren, Rachel, Rebecca, Victoria, Michael, Carissa, Ashley, Julie, Kipfer, Tad, Cheyenne and Charity; three great-grandchildren, Austin, Megan and Corbin; two sisters, Dru Manion of Opdyke and Greta Wooters of Odin; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a member of the King City Church of God.
He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 141 of Mt. Vernon.
Memorial contributions may be made to the King City Church of God or the Autism Society of America and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home at P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, Ill., 62864.

Bernita "Rose" Orr

Bernita "Rose" Orr, 88, of Enfield died 5:10 p.m. Dec. 22, 2001, at Enfield Healthcare Center.
Mrs. Orr was born March 1, 1913, in Enfield to Orlando and Mabel Warthen Rose.
She married Stanley Orr of Enfield; he survives.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Rosemary Robertson and husband Wayne of Collinsville; two granddaughters, Renee Robertson and Ginger Reed of Collinsville; and a sister, Marilyn McCarthy of Springfield, Mo.
The body will be cremated per the request of the deceased.
Private family memorial services will follow at a later date.
