Nora K. Ashton, 58, Silvis, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at her home. Funeral services are 2 PM Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in Hampton Township cemetery, Hampton, IL. Visitation is 1 hour prior to services. Memorials may be made to the family.

Nora was born on June 13, 1957 in Moline, the daughter of Roy G. and Neola W. (Whitaker) Ashton. She had worked at Desaulniers Printing Co., Moline. She loved her son's cat “Phantom”. Nora enjoyed doing ceramics.

Survivors include her children, Renee Ashton and Justin Ashton, both of Silvis; three grandchildren; sisters, Patricia Belowske, East Moline, Vivian (Joel) Michaelson, Hampton, Sandi (Terry) Browne, East Moline and Mary Ann Ashton, Denver, CO.

She was preceded in death by her parents: brother, Roy Ashton Jr.: nephews, Roy Ashton III and Alan Belowske; great nephew, Brayden Browne; and brother-in-law Rodger Belowske.

Raymond R. Mason
(March 4, 1928 - November 13, 2015)

Raymond R. Mason, 87, of Rock Island, IL, died Friday, November 13, 2015, at Rock Island Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Rock Island. Burial will be in Long Grove cemetery, Long Grove, IA. Ray was born March 4, 1928, in Chicago, IL, the son of Raymond E. and Pauline Spinsby Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Ada Mason; sisters, Shirley Schroeder and Phyllis Derrick.

Effie "Sandy" Seibers
(December 19, 1924 - November 12, 2015)

Funeral services for Effie “Sandy” Seibers, 90, formerly of East Moline, IL, will be 11:00 am Monday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in Rock Island National cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Seibers died Thursday November 12, 2015 in Rapids City. Sandy was born December 19, 1924, in Moline, IL, the daughter of Maynard and Alberta Ward Rice. She married Richard A. Palmer. He died in 1960. She later married Paul Seibers April 10, 1964, in Rock Island, IL. He died December 15, 2003. She worked at several businesses over the years including The Buddy L Toy Company, East Moline, and Servus Rubber, Rock Island. She was a member of the former East Moline Moose and Eagles Club, and the VFW East Moline. She enjoyed traveling, playing pool and bingo. Survivors include her children, Jerry (Diane) Morris, Beloit, WI, Ed (Chris) Palmer, Davenport, IA, Sharon Fox, Silvis, Carolyn (Fred) Lundeen, East Moline, Terry (Sherry) Palmer, Davenport, IA, Richard (Sharon) Palmer, Rock Island, Deb (Frank) Parker, Rapids City, Rex (Teresa) Palmer, Moline, Sue (Tony) Hoy, Davenport, Roger (Cindy) Seibers, NC; 36 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Helen and Clemmie; brothers, Ervin and Jack. Memorials may be made to UnityPoint Hospice or Disabled American Veterans.

Samuel Scalf
(November 14, 1935 - November 8, 2015)

Samuel H. Scalf, 79, formerly of East Moline, died Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Franciscan St. James Health, Olympia Fields, IL. Funeral services are 11 AM Saturday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Center Grove cemetery, Kirkwood, IL. Visitation is 4:00-7:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Sam was born on November 14, 1935 in Kirkwood, the son of Gilbert and Vera (Davis) Scalf. He married Doris Herren on June 11, 1954 in Abingdon, IL. She died March 30, 2005. Sam retired as a machinist from John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline, in 1993. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and being around people. Sam’s family was his highest priority, and he enjoyed helping others. After his retirement, he always had a job to keep him busy. urvivors include his children: Daniel Scalf, Atlanta, IL; Krystal (Jay) Stock, Homewood, IL; Ken Scalf, East Moline; Mike Scalf, Milan; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister Myrtle (Jerry) Bogart, Bettendorf; and brothers Frank (Donna) Scalf, Silvis, and Tom (Barb) Scalf, East Moline. Sam and Doris also raised two nieces and 2 nephews: Anita Hendrickson, Muscatine; Valerie Hoff, Missoula, MT; Chuck Hendrickson, Phoenix, AZ; and Kyle Hendrickson, East Moline. He never met a stranger, and his home was always open to friends and family alike. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, brother Roland Scalf, sister Wilma Joann who died in infancy, son Samuel Scalf, and grandson Joshua Scalf.

Jeffrey R. Streeter

Funeral services for Jeffrey R. Streeter, 51, of Port Byron, IL, will be 10:30 am Tuesday, at St. John's Lutheran Church, East Moline, IL. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 pm Monday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Mr. Streeter died Friday, November 6, 2015, in Galva, IL. Jeff was born in 1964, in West Union, IA, the son of Donald and Betty Buhman Streeter. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, canning, and watching wrestling and football on TV. He was a loving son, brother, and uncle. He will be missed. Survivors include his mother, Betty Streeter, East Moline; brothers, Doug (Kelly) Streeter, Port Byron, IL, Greg (Caroline) Streeter, Galva, Kevin Streeter, Lynn Center, IL, and Galen Streeter, Port Byron; aunts; uncles; nieces and nephews, Luc Streeter, Amanda Streeter, Alexandria Streeter, Kyle Streeter, Lillian Streeter, and Madison Streeter. He was preceded in death by his father and nephew, Matthew Streeter.

James J. Garcia Jr.
(Died November 6, 2015)

James Garcia 65, journeyed to heaven on November 6, 2015 after complications following surgery at Silvis' Genesis Illini Hospital. Visitation will be shared Tuesday November 10th from 1 to 7 pm at the Van Hoe's Funeral Home in East Moline, Illinois A mass to celebrate Jim's life will be at 11 am Wednesday November 11th at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church on Route 67 in Milan, IL.

Jim was born in Moline, Illinois to James Sr. and Alice Garcia. In 1969, Jim married Berta (Dubuisson). During their life they became parents of Christina (Raul) Rubio, James III both of Rock Island and Brandi (Kevin) Williams, Bettendorf. They are also blessed with grandsons, Anthony Flores, Kole and Kasey Williams and great granddaughter, Harper Flores. His family also includes, sisters, Mary Garcia Staton and Stephany (Carlos) Olvera and many nieces and nephews.

After graduating from UTHS, Jim worked for 30 years for Oscar Mayer. He retired in 2000 and began driving for Enterprise Rent a Car that same year.

Jim was an avid conservationist. He still held Board of Directors positions for both the Rock Island Conservation Club and Quad City Conservation Alliance. He was a past President of the QCCA.

He served as a Master Instructor for both the Illinois and Iowa Hunter Safety Programs for over 20 years. Jim assisted many Boy Scouts in attaining their Archery Merit Badge.

Jim was an active sponsor and committee member of the Mississippi Valley Gobblers Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation. He was a member of the Midwest & National Muzzleloaders Rifle Association and National Rifle Association. Learning about old guns and shooting them was a favorite pastime. He joined the United Bowhunters of Illinois and Davenport Valley Archery. He shot traditional bows and arrows making many of the arrows himself. In his lifetime, Jim shared many campfires being a pre-1840 re-enactor. Jim (Taco) participated at many rendezvous, portraying a Mountain Man or Longhunter. During these outings he grew many friendships. Sometimes they were even called Jerks. These Jerks became very endeared friends. Others were his ONW brothers who were held deeply in his heart. He tried to cross paths with as many friends as possible every year.

Jim enjoyed any outdoor times especially hunting, fishing and camping. Growing up together with his father and brother Paul, he hunted and fished many a weekend. He was sharing some of his inherited fishing tricks with his grandsons. They will really miss their “papa” time.

He was preceded in death by his father, brother, and his Godson (nephew) Danny.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be left to family for descendants education, to the Rock Island Conservation Club, the QCCA or any conservation group.

Elaine Cronau
(May 21, 1940 - October 19, 2015)

Elaine M. Cronau, 75, of East Moline, IL, died Monday October 19, 2015, at Clarissa Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. There will be no services. Elaine was born May 21, 1940, in Moline, IL, the daughter of Arlie and Marjorie Rivers Hulting. She married Dale Cronau November, 17, 1961, in Moline, IL. She worked at the former Lutheran Hospital, Moline. Elaine was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed traveling and watching movies. She enjoyed springtime with all its flowers. Survivors include her husband, Dale Cronau, East Moline; daughters, Beth Broderson, East Moline, Kathi (Richard) Randolph, Port Byron, IL, and Valerie Waydeman, Moline; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brother, Roy (Carma) Hulting, Rock Island. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister, Evelyn Hulting; brothers, Leslie and Lyle Hulting.

Virginia Marie Ferry
(Died October 14, 2015)

Funeral services for Virginia Marie Ferry, 85, of Moline, IL, will be 9:30 AM Saturday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline, IL. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, East Moline, IL. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 pm Friday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 PM. Mrs. Ferry died Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline. Virginia Gaines was born August 22, 1930, in East Moline, IL, the daughter of Samuel and Germaine Popelier Gaines. She married William E. Ferry July 31, 1948, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Survivors include her husband, Bill Ferry, Moline; daughter, Luann (Jack) Swan, Sherrard, IL; sons, Mike Ferry (Grace ), Davison, MI, Tim (Debbie) Ferry, Moline, and Brian Ferry, Houston, TX; 18 grandchildren; 31, great grandchildren; sister, Clare Hughes, Roscoe, IL; son-in-law, Kent Maeglin, North Port, FL; ex-daughter-in-law, Lil Rolander, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Lori Maeglin; sons, William and David; great granddaughter, Adalyn Swanson. Memorials may be made to the family.

Alfred M. Oien
(September 24, 1936 - October 12, 2015)

Alfred M. Oien, 79, Moline, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2015 at Aspen Health and Rehab, Silvis. Memorials services are 5:00 PM Friday at Grace Bible Fellowship, 1535 36th Avenue, Moline. The family will greet family and friends from 4:15 until service time.

Alfred was born on September 24, 1936 in Heaton, ND, the son of Alf and Jenny (Moe) Oien. He married Betty Baltrusch on June 14, 1957 in Jamestown, ND. He retired from Nichols Home Shield in Davenport. He loved his family, especially his granddaughter and great-granddaughter. He enjoyed cars.

Survivors include his wife Betty, daughter, Valerie Taylor, Moline, granddaughter, Audrey (John) Holland and great granddaughter, Ameleia.

Helen M. Baker
(Died October 4, 2015)

Funeral services for Helen M. Baker, 92, of East Moline, IL, will be 11:00 am Thursday at First Christian Church, East Moline. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 9:00-11:00 am Thursday at the church. Mrs. Baker died Sunday, October 4, 2015, at Genesis Medical Center, Silvis, IL. Helen Neely was born March 30, 1923, in Stahl, MO, the daughter of Everett E. and H. Grace Clifton Neely. She married Richard C. Baker May 24, 1947, in Kirksville, MO. He died August 12, 2003. She was a member of the Elks Club, Moline, and UAW Retirees. She was a life member of the First Christian Church, where she served as a Deacon and an Elder. She also served as president of Christian Women Fellowship. Survivors include her daughter, Sharron (Larry) Ripka, East Moline; sons, Larry (Sally) True, East Moline, Frank (Cindy) Baker, Moline, IL, and John (Teresa) Baker, Geneseo, IL; grandchildren, Tim (Beth) Ripka, Todd Ripka, Cheryl True (Andy Barcus), Debbie (Randy) Behrens, Shad Baker, Jason Baker, Richard Baker, Bryon (Shavonna) Johnston, Angie (Tim) Miranda, Bryan (Katie) Baker, Rachel Baker, Aaron Baker, and Zachary Baker; 8 great grandchildren; sister, Imogene Bell, Novinger, MO; and brother, Norman (Jean) Neely, Carbon Cliff, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson Jeffery Scott; 4 sisters; and 2 brothers. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church.

Spiros Pappaspiros
(Died October 3, 2015)

Funeral services for Spiros J. Pappaspiros, 82, of Moline, IL, will be 10:00 am Thursday, at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline, IL. Burial will be in Chippiannock cemetery, Rock Island. IL. Visitation will be 4:00-6:00 pm Wednesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a Trisagion Service will be held at 6:00 pm. Mr. Pappaspiros died Saturday, October 3, 2015, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA. Spiros was born September 15, 1933, in East Moline, IL, the son of James and Louise Vyhnanek Mpachiakos. He served in the US Navy. He married Carol J. Barr November 4, 1956, in San Diego, CA. He was an accountant at the John Deere Foundry, East Moline, retiring in 1987, after 21 years of service. He enjoyed playing golf and going to breakfast with his UTHS classmates. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Carol J. Pappaspiros, Moline; sister-in-law, Marcia Stevenson; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be made to Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, where he had been a member.

Donald J. Morris
(July 17, 1938 - October 3, 2015)

Funeral services for Donald J. Morris, 77, of Port Byron, IL, will be 10:00 am Wednesday at Faith Walk Outreach Center, Silvis, IL. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery, Port Byron. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 pm Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Mr. Morris died peacefully Saturday, October 3, 2015, at his home. Don was born July 17, 1938, in Fairfield, IA, the son of Albert and Etta Philips Morris Sr. He was a graduate of Sycamore High School. He married Linda Jacobs November 4, 1962, in Moline, IL. He retired as a pipefitter from Alcoa in 1998, after 37 years of service. He enjoyed gardening, working on cars, going to auctions, farming, raising bees and Simmental cows. He loved spoiling his cat, “Gracie”. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Linda Morris, Port Byron; daughters, Michelle Morris, Moline, Melissa Morris, Port Byron, and Brea (Kelly Boyer) Morris, Davenport, IA; sons, Stephen Morris, Moline, Mark Morris, East Moline, and Matt ( Amy) Morris, Silvis; grandchildren, Angel, Libby, Buddy, and Lidda; brothers, Albert Morris Jr., Muscatine, IA, and Jim Morris, Tipton, IA; He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elizabeth, brothers, Delbert and Bob. Memorials may be made to Faith Walk Outreach Center.

Kenneth E. Kelley
(June 13, 1920 - October 2, 2015)

Funeral services for Kenneth E. Kelley, 95, of Coal Valley, IL, will be noon Monday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Visitation will be 10:00am until noon Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be 3:00pm Tuesday at the White Oak cemetery, Harrison, AR. Mr. Kelley died Friday, October 2, 2015, at his home.

Ken was born June 13, 1920, in Lead Hill, AR, the son of William Edward and Maudeline Wilson Kelley. He served in the US Army during WWII, serving under Patton. He had been a Prisoner of War and had escaped. He received a Purple Heart. He married Gertrude “Velma” Roberts January 10, 1942, in Harrison. She died July 9, 2000. He was a machine operator at Alcoa, retiring in 1985, after 30 years of service. He enjoyed bluegrass music.

Survivors include his daughter, Brenda (Milton) DeShane, Moline, IL; son, Gary (Sherry) Kelley, Silvis, IL; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 16 great great grandchildren; sister, Willadean (Jim) Pogue, OK; brother, Kirby (Sue) Kelley; MO. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughters, Sue Neal and Melba Crampton; stillborn grandson, Billy Joe Kelley; sisters, Clydine and Bonnie; and brother, Hubert.

Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans Charity. The family would like to thank Hospice Campassus and Ken's caretaker, Linda for their excellent care.

George E. MacFarlane
(February 28, 1932 - October 2, 2015)

Funeral services for George E. MacFarlane, 83, of Moline, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic church, Moline. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, East Moline. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Mr. MacFarlane died Friday, Oct. 2, 2015, at Genesis Medical Center Silvis.

George was born Feb. 28, 1932, in East Dubuque, Ill., the son of George L. and Esther Ziegler MacFarlane. He married Rose Marie Kopatich June 20, 1959, in Rock Island. She died in 1991. He later married Janet Nagel Nov. 7, 1998, in Silvis. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. George was a lithographer. He retired from DeSaulniers Printing Company in 1994 after 36 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Jan MacFarlane, Moline; sons, George E. (Yvonne) MacFarlane, Minneapolis, Shawn (Leah) MacFarlane, Murphysboro, Ill., and Douglas MacFarlane, Las Vegas; stepson, Mark Nagel, East Moline; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Mary (Ken) Fluhr, East Dubuque; brothers, Robert MacFarlane, Champaign, Ill, and Michael (Kathy) MacFarlane, Ajo, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Kathy MacFarlane, East Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; sisters, Esther and Joyce; and brother, David.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Charles "Chuck" W. Kinney Jr.
(April 1, 1943 - September 30, 2015)

Charles W. Kinney Jr. 72, of Moline, IL, died Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at his home. There will be no services. Chuck was born April 1, 1943, in Pekin, IL, the son of Charles W. and Ethel L. Davis Kinney Sr. He married Marilyn Pruett February 2, 1968, in Rock Island, IL. He retired from John Deere Harvester, East Moline, IL, in 1993, after 30 years of service. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; daughters, Troudy (Gerald) Cullett, East Moline, IL, and Tonya Kinney, Rock Island; sons, Steve (Toni) Pruett, Coal Valley, IL, Billy (Janis) Kinney, Milan, IL, Michael (Lisa) Kinney, Moline, IL; Jerry (Kristen Bailey) Kinney, Rock Island, and Bobby (Tera) Kinney, Moline; 19 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Sandra Henderson, Silvis; brothers, Herb (Carolyn) Kinney, Boise, ID, Gary (Elva) Kinney, Pekin, and Jerry (Penny) Kinney, East Moline. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joyce Kiefer; and brother, Dale Kinney. Memorials may be made to the family.

Raymond Williams
(September 9, 1926 - September 28, 2015)

Raymond E. Williams, 89, East Moline, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2015 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, IA. Funeral services are 10 AM Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Burial is in St. Mary's cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is 5-8 PM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30 PM. Ray had request that there be no flowers, memorials may be made to DeLaCerda House Operating Fund of Rock Island or Care and Share Program of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport.

Ray was born September 9, 1926 in Rural Geneseo, IL, the son of Julius and Selma (Claeys) Williams. He married Joan M. Merkel on June 6, 1953 in Grayslake, IL. Mr. Williams served in the US Army. He retired as Vice President and Cashier from Pinnacle Bank, Silvis on December 31, 1989. Ray enjoyed his daily trips to the YMCA and loved the game of tennis. He was very good with numbers and found pleasure helping the elderly (and others) do their income taxes.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Joan; daughters, Mary Jo (Paul) Farron, Glenbeulah, WI, Julie Palmer, East Moline, son, Alan (Allene) Williams, East Moline, nine grandchildren 5 great grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren, sisters, Dorothy Maes, St. Petersburg, FL, Ruth Ann Fleming, Geneseo, and brother Julius (Jean) Williams, Geneseo.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sons Daniel and Joseph R. and sister Marjorie Fowler. May they rest in peace.

Doris Wisdom
(February 12, 1939 - September 27, 2015)

Doris Wisdom, 76, Geneseo, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Davenport. Services are 1PM Wednesday at Pine Hill cemetery Chapel, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family.

Doris Tipton was born on February 12, 1939 in Milan, MO, the daughter of Melvin and Ruth (Richardson) Tipton. She married Ronald Christensen in 1955. He passed in 1987. She married Ronald Wisdom in 1990. Doris worked for FW Means in her early years. She was an Elvis Presley fan, enjoyed shopping and had a special love for children and animals. Her family was her greatest joy.

Survivors include her husband Ron, Geneseo, children, Ron Christensen, Rock Island, Lisa (Curt) Devol, Brad Christensen and Donna (David) Allbrook, all of Davneport, thirteen grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and a brother Melvin Tipton of Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ron Christensen and children; Brenda Lynn Christensen, Gina Marie Christensen and Michael Dean Christensen.

The family would like to thank the staff of Good Samaritan for their love and compassion.
