Maureen Lee Norris, 80, Colona, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2015 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. Graveside services are 11 AM Wednesday at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Moline, where she was a member.

Maureen was born on February 26, 1935 in Geneseo. She married William Norris Jr., on August 4, 1951 in Geneseo. Maureen had been a foster parent from 1968 until 1988 through Children and Family Services of Moline.

Survivors include her husband Bill, children, Debra (Donald) Boisvert, David Norris, Linda Norris and Michael (Lisa) Norris, six grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, sisters, Marilyn Poplier, Lida Paller and brother Thomas Pearson.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Lida Erdman Pearson, and step father Thomas Pearson.

Jill Sodeman Stephens
May 25, 1963 - December 23, 2016

Jill Sodeman Stephens, 53, East Moline, passed away on Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, at Genesis East, Davenport.

A celebration of her life will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 26, at the East Moline American Legion, 829 16th Ave., East Moline. Private committal will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

Jill Stephens was born on May 25, 1963, in Moline, the daughter of Robert A. and Clara E. Rygg Stephens. Jill graduated from United Township High School class of 1981. She loved the beach and planned on moving back to Florida some day. She was an excellent cook and baker. Jill loved her family and being around people. Her dog, Dale, and her cats were a big part of her life. She had worked as a bookkeeper.

Survivors include her mother, Clara; significant other, Dwayne Smith Sr.; sisters, Debra Banaszek, Rock Island, and Dawn Orr, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; niece, Alissa Banaszek; and aunts, Bridgett and Nancy.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert.

Kristine A. Moller VanHecke
July 26, 1965 - July 31, 2016

Kristine A. Moller-VanHecke 51, East Moline, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at her home. Funeral services are 6 PM Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Visitation is from 3PM until service time at the church. Her family requests that those attending wear bright colors. Private inurnment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the family.

Kristine was born on July 26, 1965 in Moline, the daughter of Richard D. and Sandra L. (Simoens) Moller. She graduated from UTHS, class of 1983. She married James VanHecke on September 1, 2007 in East Moline. Kris was a supportive and caring mother and wife. She loved flowers and had studied horticulture. She had a great sense of humor, a giving heart and found pleasure in helping others. She was an excellent cook, loved to read and to dance to Mo-Town.

Survivors include her husband James, daughter, Madison Moller, Iowa City, parents, Sandra Simoens, Silvis, Richard (Rose) Moller, Colona. Siblings; Rick (Barb) Moller, Silvis, Rob (Mary) Moller, New Albany, IN, Michael Moller, Jacksonville, FL, and Kelle (David) Hunter, Simpsonville, SC, and many nieces and nephews.

Patricia Ann Carlson
July 31, 1938 - April 30, 2012

Patricia Ann Carlson, 73, Moline, died Monday, April 30, 2012 at her home. Funeral services are 1:30 Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Estate, Moline. Visitation is 5-8PM Wednesday at the funeral home and 1 hour prior to service. A memorial fund has been established. Patricia Watson was born July 31, 1938 in Moline, IL, the daughter of Lloyd and Henrietta (Birkhahn) Watson. She married LeRoy Carlson on December 23, 1958 and together they had three children. Patricia had worked at the former International Harvester Works, East Moline and as a bartender at Buzz and Doris' in Moline and the Latin Village Tavern, East Moline. She dearly loved her family and enjoyed attending her grandson's stock car races. Survivors include her children; Peggy Summers, Milan, Wayne Carlson, East Moline and Natalie Carlson, Moline, four grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, sisters Frances Moon, Rock Island and Carolyn Mason, Bettendorf and special friends Joanna Morgan and Mike Livingston. She is preceded in death by a granddaughter Mercedes. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Trinity Pathway Hospice and Dr. Stewart Garneau, for their compassionate care.

Esther Mae Karben
November 10, 1919 - April 23, 2012

Funeral services for Esther Mae Karben, 92, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Friday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Burial will be in Green View Memorial Garden, East Moline. Visitation will be 3:00-7:00PM Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. Karben died Monday, April 23, 2012 at Good Samaritan Home, Geneseo, IL. Memorials may be made to United Methodist Women's Glory Circle or the Alzheimer's Association. Esther Sansale was born November 10, 1919 in Rock Island, IL, the daughter of Frank and Martha Kouski Sansale. She married Sam Karben June 5, 1938 in East Moline. He died in January of 1972. Esther retired from Millard Maintenance in 1982 after 10 years of service. In her earlier years she had worked at the UTHS Cafeteria and had been an excellent seamstress. She had been a member of Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline and the United Methodist Women's Glory Circle. She enjoyed volunteering at the Salvation Army, sewing for the Kings Daughters, and always enjoyed Greek family dinners. Survivors include daughter Barbara (Tim) Carr, Port Byron, IL; sons, James (Cheryl) Karben, East Moline and Frank (Carolyn) Karben Ridgefield, WA; grandchildren, Bill Karben, John (Sondra) Karben, Sam Karben, Kara (Cory) Richards, Brock Karben, and Blake (Hannah) Carr; great-grandchildren, Abbey, Taylor, Jordan, Adam, Leah, Jessica, and Brayden. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and grandson, Dirk Karben.

Theodore "Ted" Crane
June 12, 1962 - April 4, 2012

Funeral services for Theodore “Ted” Crane, 49, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park cemetery, Davenport, IA. Visitation will be 3:00-8:00PM Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Crane died Wednesday April 4, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, IL. Memorials may be made to the family. Ted was born June 12, 1962 in Davenport, IA, the son of Donald and Betty Doolittle Crane. He married Elsa Valladares July 12, 2004 in Davenport. He currently was working as a mechanic for Tyson Fresh Meats, Joslin, IL.

Survivors include his wife, Elsa Crane, East Moline; daughters, Brittany Crane, Davenport, Brooke Crane, Davenport; son, Jeremy Crane- Benda, WI; grandson, Noah Vincent-Freund; stepchildren, Waulter Torres, Selvin Torres, Belkis Torres, Fanny Torres, Johana Torres, Brailin Crane, and Emanuel Crane all of East Moline; sisters, Rebecca (Ed) Pellin, Davenport Pamela (Al) Knowles, Peoria, AZ, Sharon (Jerry) Robinson, Milan, IL; brother, Jeff (Penny) Crane, Cordova, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Wayne Woods
January 14, 1951 - April 2, 2012

Wayne R. Woods, 61, East Moline, lost his battle with cancer on April 2, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. Graveside services are 11:30 AM Friday at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 9-11 AM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. A memorial fund has been established.

Wayne was born January 14, 1951 in Moline. He graduated from UTHS. Wayne worked as an alignment mechanic in the Quad City Area. He enjoyed fishing and loved goose hunting. Wayne served in the US National Guard.

Survivors include his sister Gail and brother David, both of East Moline.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Dorothy "Doot" DeRuytter
December 4, 1916 - April 1, 2012

Dorothy “Doot” DeRuytter, 95, Silvis, died Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis. Funeral services are 1:30 PM Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Colona. Burial is in St. John the Baptist cemetery, Rapids City, IL. Visitation is 4-7PM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 4PM. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Church.

Doot was born December 4, 1916 in Hampton, IL, the daughter of James and Clara (Mohr) Marx. She married Frank DeRuytter on April 25, 1935 at St. John's Church, Rapids City. Frank died in 1982. Mrs. DeRuytter dearly loved her family and time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed early years on the farm and flower gardening.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Jerry Lawson, Colona, granddaughters Christine (Jim) Kuhlman and Lisa (Rick) Barker, great-grandchildren Neil, Nicholas, Mary and Kaylynn and great-great grandchildren, Oliver, Alexander, Emery and Sage.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by brothers, John, Elmer, Raymond, and Jerome and sisters Alice and Edith.

David D. Walker
October 15, 2012 - March 22, 2012

Funeral services for David Dean Walker, 92, of Moline, IL will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in National cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be 9:30-11:00AM Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Walker died Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Clarissa Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

David was born October 15, 1919 in Winchester, IL, the son of Fred and Maude Wright Walker. He married Darlene (Derr) Rieger May 13, 1967 in East Moline.

He served proudly in the Army during World War II. He was in the K-Company, 157th Infantry, 45th Division. He was stationed in Germany as a radio operator. He was in the Rhineland Central Europe Campaign. He was involved with the capture of Nuremberg and Munich. He had remained in Munich until V-E Day. He had also been lucky enough to meet General Patton. Upon his discharge he earned his private pilot license. He was employed by Pioneer Trucking and retired from Chicago Tri-Cities (Holland) in 1982. He is a member of the Local # 710.

He was also a Beekeeper for many years, gardner, and spent several winters in Florida which he dearly loved.

He will be greatly missed by family and friends. How lucky we were to have had him for 92 years. He is survived by his wife, Darlene Walker of Moline; three daughters, Linda Sayre (Merle) of Virginia IL, Sandra Hudgens of Jacksonville, IL, and Brenda Sampson (David) of Des Moines, IA; eight grandchildren, Nathan Mead, Moline, IL; Nicholas Mead, Corvallis, OR; Amy Roberts (Brandon), Springfield, IL; Lori Moore (Ron) of Jerseyville, IL; Tim Sayre (Tracie) of Arenzville, IL; Erin Fernandes (David) of Jacksonville, IL; Drue Hudgens, Springfield, IL and Robert Hudgens, Naperville, IL; ten great-grandchildren; three step-children, Ken Rieger (Janette), of East Moline, Sue Wayne (Dave)of East Moline, and Ronald Rieger of Moline, IL; seven step-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Davis and Robertine Erixon both of Jacksonville, IL;

Sharon Sue Batten
June 15, 1946 - March 19, 2012

Sharon Sue Batten, 65, East Moline, died Monday, March 19, 2012, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, IL. Funeral services are 11AM Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens. Visitation is Tuesday, 4-7 PM at Van Hoe Funeral Home, Ltd., East Moline. A memorial fund has been established.

Sharon Clark was born June 15, 1946 in Moline, IL the daughter of Walter E. and Rose M. (Giovenazzo) Clark. She married Larry Batten October 6,1967 in Silvis, IL. She worked nearly 25 years in customer service at Sears Roebuck retiring in 2002. Sharon was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was involved in her children's scouting, driving to practices and attended their many events. She had a special love for children which blossomed with the birth of her grandchildren. Every visit was a special adventure, as she was able to share her wisdom through fun activities and crafts. Sharon was good listener who gave support and encouragement. She had a peaceful strength and quiet demeanor that gave her a unique ability to hold her family together.

Survivors include her children, Michael (Linda) Batten, Indianapolis, IN., Susan (Clayton) Curry, East Moline; four grandchildren, Alexander, Madelyn, Daphne and Spencer Curry; one sister, Connie (Warren) Gale, Orion, IL, brothers, Tim (Kathleen) Orendorff, Geneseo, IL., Jonathan (Melanie) Orendorff, McHenry, IL. And numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her father Walter Clark and mother and step-father Rose and Robert Orendorff.

Matthew Zarlatanes
April 11, 1932 - March 14, 2012

Matthew Zarlatanes, 79, formerly of East Moline, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Heartland Health Care, Moline. Funeral services are 11 AM Saturday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 1 hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, where he was a member.

Matt was born April 11, 1932 in East Moline, the son of Peter and Mary (Fotinakes) Zarlatanes. He graduated from United Township High School. After high school he was stationed in Korea with the US Army. He married Ardith Miley on September 20, 1958 in Biggsville, IL. Ardith preceded him in death on November 3, 2001. Matthew worked as a draftsman for 28 years with Roth Tank Co., Rock Island and ultimately retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1996. Matthew was a devoted husband, father and friend. He enjoyed golfing and playing cards.

Survivors include his children (spouse), James (Julie) Zarlatanes, Taylor Ridge, IL and Gina McCarthy, Dubuque, IA, grandchildren, Matthew McCarthy, Anthony McCarthy, Nikolas Zarlatanes and Alex Zarlatanes, great grandson, Maddux McCarthy and sisters Evelyn (Stuvie) Wallen, East Moline and Bessie (Robert) Lemen, East Moline.

In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents and brother James and Nicholas.

Dorothy Rice
(November 15, 1927 - November 21, 2015)

Dorothy Rice, 88, Moline, went to meet her Lord on Saturday, November 21, 2015. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be 11 AM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation is 4-7PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Northcrest Calvary Baptist Church, Moline.

Dorothy was born November 15, 1927 in Unionville, MO, a daughter of George and Joyce Ann (Rouse) Harmon. She graduated from Unionville High in 1945. Dorothy married Virgil Rice on December 21, 1947. They moved to Bettendorf, IA in 1956 and lived in Bettendorf and Davenport for many years. Dorothy was a long-time member of Assembly of God, Davenport.

Dorothy worked at Mississippi Hotel, Parkers, Younkers, and retired from Fox Photo. She enjoyed fishing, sewing, crocheting, quilting, camping and swimming in the creek with family and friends. She had rather work out in the fields with the guys than being indoors. Dorothy got great satisfaction in helping her blind friend. She especially cherished the many good times she spent with her family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Vicky (Larry) Plumb, grandsons, Martin (Lisa) Plumb, Silvis, Terry (Melisa) Plumb, Silvis, and Jeremy (Debbie) Plumb, Colona, and great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister Alfreda James, Kirksville, MO, and brother, Bob (Rosie) Harmon, St. Paul, KS and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Virgil in 1995, parents, and her sisters, Cleta Francis Harmon, Mary Sheehan, Crystal Choate, and Maxine Brown, and brothers, Glen, James, and Frank Harmon.

Lynna Mae Cullen
(August 22, 1939 - November 18, 2015)

Lynna Mae Cullen, 76, Taylor Ridge, IL, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 with her family at her side. Memorial services are 6PM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Visitation is from 4PM until service time. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Unity Point Hospice. Private family committal will be at Rock Island National cemetery at a later date.

Lynna Mae was born on August 22, 1939 in Moline, the daughter of William and Ethel Mae (Nelson) Kihler. She married Marvin Cullen on February 8, 1958 at St. John's Church, East Moline. Lynna had worked at John Deere Harvester, Eagle Warehouse and most recently at the Book Store at Augustana College, Rock Island. She was a fan of country music and loved Elvis Presley. She was a member of the Elk's Club in Texas, the Red Hat Society, American Legion and Whitewater Ministries of Texas.

Survivors include her husband Marvin, daughter Lauri Jackson, East Moline, son Scott (Cindy) Cullen, Taylor Ridge, grandchildren, Aaron Jackson, Moline, Christopher Jackson, East Moline and Taylor Cullen, Taylor Ridge, sisters Shirley Rudd, East Moline and Mary Jane Nansen, East Moline and aunts and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers who died in infancy and her son-in-law Timothy Jackson.

Marjorie L. Baney
(February 28, 1942 - November 18, 2015)

Marjorie L. Baney, 73, Bettendorf, IA, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Good Samaritan Home, Davenport. Funeral services are 10 AM Tuesday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7 PM Monday with a rosary recited at the conclusion. Memorials may be made to Rock Island County Animal Care and Control.

Marjorie was born on February 28, 1942 in Moline, the daughter of Marcel and Pauline (Cappaert) Cobert. She married Ronald O. Baney on September 10, 1960 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. He died November 25, 1999. Mrs. Baney had worked for the former Eagle Food, and was a member of the Local Meat Cutters Union. She enjoyed playing bingo, had a love of animals, and loved being with people.

Survivors include her children, Nancy (Mark) Hallas, Seguin, TX, Vicky (Craig) Goettsch, Bettendorf, and Bill (Ronna) Baney, Orion, eight grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and brothers Tom (Lynn) Cobert, Moline and Joe Cobert, Davenport, IA.

Marshall Edward Martel
(April 22, 1948 - November 18, 2015)

Marshall Edward Martel, 67, East Moline, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at home, surrounded by his family. Funeral services are 10 AM Monday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Family inurnment will be in Rock Island National cemetery. Visitation is 2-6 Sunday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 1PM. Memorials may be made to the family.

Marshall was born April 22, 1948 in Stockton, CA, the son of Paul E. and Porfiria (Moreno) Martel. He married Pamela K Gustafson Davis on March 17, 1973 in Rock Island. They later divorced. Marshall retired in 2009 as a draftsman for City Blueprint, Moline. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. Martel loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed riding his Harley, traveling, golf and Motown music. He truly loved coaching and watching his children play baseball and softball.

Survivors include his children, Melissa (David) Turner, Davenport, Nicole (Scott) Mueller, Davenport and Joshua (Tara) Martel, Moline, grandchildren, Joshua, Jason, Victoria, Cody, Kamden, Taylor, Natalie and Joshua, great grandchildren, Bella, Skylar, Jaxxon and Landon and siblings, Andrew Martel, Rock Island, Daniel Martel, Orlando, FL, James Martel, Silvis, Joseph (Pat) Martel, East Moline, Stanley Martel, Denver, CO, Matthew Martel, Moline, Paul (Susan) Martel, FL, Anita (Terry) Burke, Seattle, WA and Micah Martel, New York, NY.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Donny, Robert and Rueben and a sister Denise.
