(February 21, 1945 - July 3, 2015)

Carla J. Stephens, 70, Moline, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2015 at her home. Her family will have a private Celebration of Life at a later date.

Carla Norris was born on February 21, 1945 in West Liberty, IA, the daughter of Amos and Marcella (Keith) Norris. She married Charles Stephens in 1983. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son Dean (Karen) Smet, Milan, IL, grandchildren, Rebecca, Andrew, Meagan, Christine and Nikki, eleven great grandchildren, brother, Mike (Betty) Norris and sister, Diana Whiting, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, husband Charles, sisters, Faye and Sandy, and her son Joseph.

Edward A. Mickelson
(Died July 3, 2015)

Funeral services for Edward A. Mickelson, 59, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00 AM Wednesday at Union Congregational Church, Moline, IL. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 pm Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Mr. Mickelson died Friday, July 3, 2015, at Genesis-East Campus, Davenport. IA. Ed was born November 12, 1955, in DeWitt, IA, the son of Donald and Ruth Carber Mickelson. He married Cheryl Lynn Powell September 29, 1990, in East Moline. He worked as a security guard at the National Guard Armory, Mt. Joy, IA. He later retired from Lucky Enterprise in 2014, where he had been a cab driver. Ed is a Green Bay Packer fan. He enjoyed bowling, watching professional wrestling, and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Mickelson, East Moline; sister, Robin (Terry) Simpson, Cincinnati, OH; brothers, Gary (Edna) Mickelson, DeWitt, and Raymond (Myra) Mickelson Sr., Dewitt; sister-in-law, Lorraine Mickelson, DeWitt; nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Richard, Donald, Thomas, and Jeffery Mickelson.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Isabelle V. Francis
(July 23, 1916 - July 3, 2015)

Funeral services for Isabelle V. Francis, 98, of Woodridge Supportive Living in Galesburg, IL, formerly of Colona House in East Moline, IL, will be 1:00 pm Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in Rock Island National cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Francis died Friday, July 3, 2015, at OSF St. Mary's Hospital, Galesburg. Isabelle Rosenberg was born July 23, 1916, in Newstead, NY, the daughter of Homer and Onnolee Hartranft Rosenberg. She married Carl Bero August 4, 1938. He died December 23, 1948. She later married Leo Francis July 12, 1951 in Paullion, NY. He died September 5, 1995. Isabelle loved the outdoors. She enjoyed ceramics, reading, playing cards and bingo, but most of all spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of First Baptist Church, East Moline. Survivors include her daughters, Judith (Virgil) Elson, Beloit, WI, and Susan (Theodore) Hanson, Monmouth, IL; son, Thomas (Sue) Bero, Erie, PA; grandchildren, Tommy (Maureen) Bero, Robert (Stephanie) Bero, Kathy Bero (Jeffery) Sam, Jodi Gile, Kathryn Marie (Phil) Dworak, Bethany (Jered) Longtin, Eric Hanson, and Nicholas Hanson; great grandchildren, Sarah Bero, Jordan and Kaylin Sam, Ainsley Longtin, Addison, Ellie, and Delanie Dworak; and her half brother, Robert Jenks, Akron, NY. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brothers, Willis and Vernon Rosenberg. Memorials may be made to Woodridge Residents Activity Fund.

Louis D. Redman
(Died May 24, 2015)

Louis D. Redman, 83, East Moline, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2015. Funeral services are 10 AM Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island Memorial Park. Visitation is 4-7PM Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family for Hemophilia of Iowa.

Louis was born June 14, 1931 in Colona, the son of Herbert and Minnie (Hinsberger) Redman. He married Alice Clossin on November 19, 1954 in Iowa City, IA. She died in 2004. Louis was a very gifted mechanic and body man, and was a long time sheet metal worker for Gannon's and Modern Heating & Air with local 91. He served in the National Guard during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed working on computers, his Corvette, going to Michigan for the races with family and friends, and delivering cars with Bobby Underwood. He and his wife enjoyed vacationing with his sister and her husband, Lillian and LaVerne Israelson. He loved spending time with all of his family and friends. In earlier years he enjoyed spending time on the farm with his grandparents and uncle Louie, and racing at Cordova with his older sons. Mr. Redman helped many people with countless projects. He was very intelligent and could figure out almost anything by reading or just doing it. Most of all he will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor.

Survivors include his children, Greg (Martha) Redman, Cary, NC, Jeff (Kathy) Redman, East Moline, Anne (Bob) Melchert, Bettendorf, IA, and Kevin (Malora) Redman, Port Byron, grandchildren; Robert (Rebecca), Guy (Darci),Gidget, Sandi, Lee, Lisa (Nathan), and Greg (Nikki), great-grandchildren; Alexander & Abigail, Tyler & Lynzi, Carleigh, Baylee & Cullen and Hunter, and siblings, Lillian (LaVerne) Israelson, Erie and Richard Redman, Rock Island.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Willard, Kathryn, Edward, Loretta and Norma, and great granddaughter MaKenzie Franks.

A special thanks to Park Vista Memory Care Staff who's care and compassion made Louis feel at home and to his family and friends for being there. Thank you to Drs' Coyne and VanWhy at Cardio Vascular Medicine and to Helen Agnew who was like another daughter to Louis and nicknamed him Papa Smurf.

Raymond W. Weideman
(April 27, 1930 - May 23, 2015)

Raymond W. Weideman, 85, East Moline, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his family. Funeral services are 10 AM Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7 PM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a prayer service will be read at 3;30 PM. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, where he was a member.

Ray was born on April 27, 1930 in Fowler, IL, the son of Alfred and Ella Weideman. He married Madlin Howerton on October 14, 1950 in Moline. She died on November 25, 2006. Ray started working at the Quincy, IL airport when he was 15. At 16 he began working at the International Shoe Company. He moved to the Quad Cities in 1949 and started at McLaughlin’s in Moline. He went to Fairbanks Morse in 1951 and in 1966 to John Deere Spreader Works, Moline and retired from there in 1990. Realizing he wasn't ready to retire, he spent 18 years at Waterworks Car Wash in East Moline and from 1993-2012 worked part time for HyVee Silvis as a delivery man. Ray was often referred to as Mr. Fixit, doing various repair work and power washing. He didn't like idle time and loved helping people.

Survivors include, daughters and sons-in-law Norma Jean and Jerry Fry, Geneseo, and Mary Ellen and Jim Spooner, East Moline, son Ray Weideman Jr., Newton IA, grandchildren; Michael William Fry, John Curtis Fry, Christopher Gerald Fry, Amy Weideman and Kaleigh Joan Dilley, great grandchildren; Sara Michelle Fry and John Curtis Fry Jr., and siblings, Joan Gunnerson, Moline, Ruth Sutton, Carbon Cliff and Donald Weideman, Peoria.

He was preceded in death by his wife, 3 sisters and a brother.

Zachary Michael Phillips
(December 7, 1996 - May 20, 2015)

Zachary Michael Phillips, 18 year old son of Lyndsie McCoy, Colona, and Jamie Phillips, life was cut short by an unmerciful act of violence. He did not suffer.

A time for friends and family to say goodbye to Zac will be from 12 Noon until 2 PM Sunday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. A brief committal service will follow at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. A celebration of Zac's life will follow at the pavilion at Riverside Park, Moline from 4:30 PM until 10PM. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the family.

Zac was born on December 7, 1996 in Silvis. He started playing baseball at the age of 5 for Twin Rivers Little League. He loved Jordan's shoes and collected many pair. Zac loved playing with cars since he was a little boy. As he grew older the love of cars spread to x-box's Need for Speed. Zac's dream car was his 1993 Nissan 240sx. He also had a 1996 Mustang Cobra Convertible, which he received from his father as a graduation present. He would have graduated from UTHS in a few days. Zac was taught from a young age to respect people and show kindness, no matter who you are with. He enjoyed travel, having been to Mexico, the Bahamas, Florida numerous times and at least a dozen of the United States. At 18 he had seen more places than most people see in a lifetime.

Those left to mourn his leaving, his mother Lyndsie, father, Jamie, sister Rebecca Susanne Phillips, Colona, grandparents, Pam Serra, Colona, Charlie and Ruth Phillips, Colona, Ron McCoy, and Randy Serra, Silvis, great grandfather John Berge, special aunt and uncle Jeannie and Bob Hemphill, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, girlfriend Ginger Bradley, and his dog, Sammy.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother Susanne Phillips.

Zac's family encourages all to learn from this. Life is precious and do not let his life be lived in vane.

James A. Hook
(June 18, 1946 - May 20, 2015)

James A. Hook, 68, East Moline, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at his home. Funeral services are 11 AM Saturday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7 PM Friday (Today) at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to ASPCA.

Jim was born on June 18, 1946 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Marion and Lorraine (Litzau) Hook. He married Delores A. Daily on December 27, 1969 at Watertown Baptist Church, East Moline. Mr. Hook retired in 2010 from John Deere Plow Planter. He enjoyed riding his John Deere Tractor and the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife Delores, siblings, Joyce (Allan) Faust, Galesburg, Robert (Kathy) Hook, Coal Valley and Judy (George) Nyquist, Rock Island, several nieces and nephews, and his feline friend “Abby”.

Margery Ellen Gooden
(January 18, 1962 - May 14, 2015)

Margery Ellen "Margie" Gooden 53, East Moline, Left this Earth on Thursday May 14th 2015 at Select Specialty Hosptial after a long fight with illness. Burial is at Moline Memorial Park, a private "Celebration of Her Life" will be held with family and close friends. Margery was born January 18 1962 in Moline, the daughter of Gail and John Sorensen. Margery worked as a seamstress for several years. She loved root beer, being stylish, music, and animals, especially her kittycat Baxter and she really loved her family. "She was a cool mom" Survivors include: Daughter, Devin Nichol Gooden, Moline; Son, Gregory Charles Gooden, Rock Island; Mother Gail Gooden, Moline; Brother, Mark Stodghill, Philadelphia, Pa.

Harry Means III
(April 20, 1957 - May 13, 2015)

Harry Means III, 58, of East Moline, IL, died Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at Genesis, Silvis, IL. A celebration of life will be held Saturday at the East Moline American Legion from noon until 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the family. Harry was born April 20, 1957, in Rock Island, IL, the son of Harry and Alice Ruark Means Jr. He worked at the former Sambo's East Moline, QC Times, Peoria Journal Star, and Canton Daily Ledger. Harry was a sports fan. He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bulls, and Chicago Cubs. Survivors include his daughter, Erin Means, Davenport, IA; son, Alex Means, East Moline; granddaughters, Andrea Davis, Lillian Horton, and Jorja Means; mother, Alice Martin, East Moline; step children, Nick Wisely Clinton, IA, Eric Wisely, Clinton, and Sarah Lanxon, Clinton; sisters, Debbie Johnson, Galesburg, IL, and Valarie Streitmatter, East Moline. He was preceded in death by his father; stepfather, Homer Martin; step son, Michael Wisely.

Barbara Stumphy
(April 2, 1928 - May 11, 2015)

Barbara J. Stumphy, 87, formerly of Silvis, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2015 at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo. Funeral services are 12:30 PM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in St. Mary's cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is 10 AM until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Barbara Dodd was born on April 2, 1928 in DesMoines, IA, the daughter of Dennis and Frances (Ginter) Dodd. She married David A. Stumphy on April 19, 1947 in Davenport. Barbara had worked as a switchboard operator at several area businesses.

She is survived by her children, Dennis (Marlene) Stumphy, Aledo, IL, Kathleen “Casey” (Lewis) Washington, Rock Island, David (Jennifer) Stumphy, Galva, IL, Paul (Kathy) Stumphy, Moline, Brian Stumphy, East Moline, Christine (David) Meersman, Moline, Michael Stumphy, Moline, Karen (David) Lee, Moline and Daniel (Shelly) Stumphy, Antioch, IL, twenty grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, her brother John Dodd, Davenport, and son-in-law Jack Ashcraft

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband David in 1988,daughter Elizabeth Ashcraft in 1987, sisters, Patricia Maxwell and Louise Muir and brother George Dodd.

Connie Krummel
(June 18, 1952 - May 11, 2015)

Connie J. Krummel, 62, Hampton, died Monday, May 11, 2015 as the result of an automobile accident in Hampton. Funeral services are 7PM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Visitation is 5PM until service time. At Connie's request, her body will be cremated following services. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Quad Cities Greyhound Adoption or to Rock Island County No Kill Shelter.

Connie Gibson was born on June 18, 1952 in Clinton, IA, the daughter of Stuart and Anita T. (Todtz) Gibson. She married Les Dicken in 1972. She later married Kurt Krummel in 1992. Connie was a jack of all trades. She had worked as a welder at John Deere Davenport, was a draftsman at Pav-Saver and ran tool path for Brutsche, Moline. Connie was an awesome seamstress, and didembroidery and alterations. She was instrumental in the forming of the local Threads of Love. Connie was a member of Unity Church of the Quad Cities, Moline. She enjoyed gardening, going to drag races and vacationing, especially where there was sand. Most of all she loved her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Hope Esparza (Shane Davis), Spragueville, IA, Tony Baker, Blue Grass, IA, and Lane (Sara) Dicken, Long Grove, IA, ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren with one on the way and siblings, Dan (Tracey) Gibson, Cordova and Doris (John) Mack, Bettendorf.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Raymond.

Richard Lee Raiche
(April 17, 1929 - May 9, 2015)

Richard Lee Raiche, 86, East Moline, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Hope Creek, East Moline, with family by his side. Funeral services are 1PM Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Davenport with the Very Rev. John Horn officiating. Visitation is 4-7 PM Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline.

Richard Lee Raiche was born in Iowa City, IA April 17,1929. He graduated from Central High school in Davenport, IA in 1947. He was employed by Oscar Mayer in Davenport IA from 1948-1949 as a laborer. He began working for the Rock Island Lines Railroad at the Silvis railroad yard as a teletype clerk on October 22, 1950. After 30 years of employment by the railroad, Mr. Raiche retired on March 31,1981.

Mr. Raiche was hired by the City of East Moline, IL on June 1, 1981 as their Animal Control Officer. In 1994 after 13 years of service to the city of East Moline Mr. Raiche retired.

Mr. Raiche attended Trinity Episcopal Cathedral as a child in the 1930‘s and through adulthood until St. Marks Episcopal church was established in Silvis, IL. He married Marie “Mary” Patricia Gargano on January 14, 1950. She preceded in death after 60 years of marriage on August 6, 2010.

Mr. Raiche was a member of the East Moline Pigeon Flying Club and the Rock Falls Pigeon Flying Club. Mr. Raiche began raising and racing Homing Pigeons in 1942 and continued to race his birds until the age of 81. He won multiple trophies over the course of 68 years. He was also a union member of AFSCME. Richard was a member of the East Moline Police Benevolent.

His hobbies were hunting and attending United Township High School basketball games of which he held season tickets for 40 years. He traveled to major cities yearly for the annual Pigeon Flyers Conventions held around the country and gave considerably to multiple charities.

He is survived by his daughter Dyan Avanti, Grand-Daughter Jessica Douglas (Marshall Douglas II) and Great-Grand-Daughter Savanna Douglas.

Mr. Raiche will be missed by his family, friends, and all the dogs he found homes for.

The family wishes to thank Hospice Compasses and Hope Creek for their exceptional care and compassion. Richard's daughter would like to express deep gratitude from the bottom of her heart for treating her father like family.

Daniel Joseph Lewis
(August 16, 1959 - March 29, 2015)

Daniel Joseph Lewis, 55, Coal Valley, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at home, surrounded by his family. A celebration of life will begin at 3:30 PM Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. The family will greet family and friends from 1PM until service time. Memorials may be made to the family.

Dan was born on August 16, 1959 in Vincennes, IN, the son of Anthony and Marjorie Bridwell Hernandez. He married Eilene Cruit on September 29, 1979 in Rock Island. He was a engineer in the Paint Department at John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline. Dan had also worked as a facilities engineer for 15 years for Genesis Health Systems. He had played bass guitar in several area bands and music was a very big part of his life. He enjoyed working in his garden. He loved his family and dearly loved time spent with his grandchildren. Dan was an intelligent man with a creative mind and fascination of math and physics, Dan always found himself solving the next challenge.

Survivors include his wife Eilene, children, Brian Lewis (Teresa Marolf) Moline, Shawn Lewis, Coal Valley, Emily (Daniel Joseph) Fariole, Moline and Matthew Lewis (Ashley Melvin), Lancaster, MO, grandchildren, Michael Lewis, Savannah Shadden, Vincent Shadden, Delaney Lewis, Lilly Fariole, Emma Fariole and Isaac Lewis, his parents, Marjorie and Anthony Hernandez, Moline, and sisters, Juliana (Todd) Rocha, Moline, Jennifer Hernandez, Macomb Township, Michigan and Joanna Hernandez, Estherville, IA.

Alma A. DeCapp
(February 10, 1919 - March 28, 2015)

Alma A. DeCapp, 96, Silvis, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Hope Creek, East Moline. Funeral services are 9 AM Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7 PM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 PM. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church or to Alzheimer's Research.

Alma VanHorbeck was born on February 10, 1919 in Belle Plaine, IA, the daughter of Richard and Leontine VanHorbeck. She married L.David DeCapp on September 28, 1940 in Moline. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Survivors include her children, Joyce (Roger) VanDeHeede, East Moline, Linda Rumburg, Silvis, Richard (Joanne) DeCapp, East Moline, John (Judy) DeCapp, Moline and Theresa (Patrick) Davis, Rock Island, thirteen grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2000, her parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.The family wishes to thank Hope Creek and those who cared for Mom these past few moths.
