(June 28, 1997 - August 14, 2015)

Ashley Escobar, 18, Davenport, IA died as a result of an automobile accident on Interstate 280 on Friday, August 14, 2015. Ashley was 8 months pregnant, her son Ayden Anthony died with her. Services are 6:30 PM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Visitation is from 4PM until service time.

Ashley was born June 28, 1997 in El Paso, TX, the daughter of Juan and Anna McDonald Escobar. She was a loving daughter, sister and friend.

Survivors include her parents, Juan and Anna, Davenport, brother John Escobar, Davenport and sister Yusdid Escobar, East Moline, and her extended family living in Texas, Ohio and Mexico.

Joyce K. Motsinger
(September 27, 1941 - August 12, 2015)

Joyce K. Motsinger, 73, of East Moline, IL, died Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at Aspen Health and Rehab Center, Silvis, IL. A celebration of life will be held at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, from 3:00-6:00 pm Friday, where a time of sharing will begin at 5:00 pm. Interment will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Joyce Pool was born September 27, 1941, in Centerville, IA, the daughter of Paul and Wilma Freeborn Pool. She married Charles “Chuck” Motsinger. She had worked for Jewel Food Stores as a union meat wrapper for nearly 30 years. Survivors include her daughter, Robin Motsinger, East Moline; son, Danny (Brenda) Motsinger, Colona, IL; grandson, Aaron (Robyn) Motsinger, Moline, IL; great grandchildren, Bella Michelle and Vyncent Joel Motsinger; brother, Doyle Pool, Rock Island. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Frani Pool. Memorials may be made to the family.

Katherine Moraetes
(September 15, 1927 - August 11, 2015)

Funeral services for Katherine Moraetes, 87, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Friday at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline. Burial will be in Moline Memorial Park cemetery, Moline, IL. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 pm Thursday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a Trisagion (Prayer) service will be held at 7:00 pm. Mrs Moraetes died Tuesday August 11, 2015, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA. Katherine Kotrogiannis was born September 15, 1927, in Setta, Greece, the daughter of George and Maria Mageras Kotrogiannis. She married Spiro Moraetes November 1, 1942, in Setta. He died October 30, 2006. She had worked as a seamstress for Seaford Clothing, Rock Island, IL, for 16 years. She had been and active member of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church. She loved her family deeply. Survivors include her daughter, Angie Dokolas, East Moline; son, George (Joann) Moraetes, Oswego, IL; grandchildren, Panayioti, Spiro, Dimitra, Katherine, Dimitri, and Alexander; great grandchildren, Makenzie, Angeliki, Dimitri, Olive, and Aristotle; sister; Paraskevi Stamatoukos, East Moline; brothers Terry (Maria) Kotrogiannis, East Moline, and Bill (Dimitra)Kotrogiannis, Dunedin, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Memorials may be made to Assumption Greek Orthodox Church.

Eloris F. Thorpe
(March 17, 1924 - August 8, 2015)

Graveside services for Eloris F. Thorpe, 91, of East Moline, IL, will be 1:00 pm Wednesday at Riverside cemetery, Moline, IL. Mrs. Thorpe died Saturday, August 8, 2015, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline. Eloris Masengarb was born March 17, 1924, in South Dakota, the daughter of Andrew and Jennie Hazel (Rinard) Masengarb. She married Thomas A. Thorpe in 1945 in Los Angeles, CA. He died July 25, 1981. Survivors include her son, Paul Thorpe, East Moline; sister, Elwris "Mickie" Moran, IL; nieces, Donna Tomkins, Dorinda Haskins, Arlene Griswold and Kris Irene Masengarb Moore; grand nieces, Deb Kakavas and Tammy Mowery; grand nephew Mike Zug. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Edwris and Elvera; brothers, Robert, Lester, Demarro and Lyle.

William Fred Womac
(September 18, 1941 - August 8, 2015)

William Fred Womac, 73, Moline, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at his home. Funeral services are 12 Noon Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is from 11 AM until service time.

Fred was born September 18, 1941 in Charleston, TN, the son of Henry T. and Effie (Green) Womac. He married Joanne Koester on April 15, 1961 in LaFayette, GA. He retired in 1992 from the former Case IH, East Moline. He was a proud member of the union local 1304, enjoyed NASCAR and hot rods. In earlier years his handle on the CB was Running Bear. Mr. Womac loved his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Joanne, sons, William Fred (Marcia) Womac Jr., Orion, and Troy (Teresa) Womac, Rockford, IL, grandchildren, Gunnar, Gage, Taylor, Emily and Maggie, and a sister Margaret.

He was preceded in death by his brother Roy.

Katherine L. Smith
(Died August 5, 2015)

Katherine L. Smith (Ruiz) passed away August 5, 2015 at Thornburg Manor, Lansing, IA. Private graveside services will be held at Garden of Memories cemetery, Waterloo, IA. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Smith (Block) Ingalls and her husband Don; grandchildren, Randy Block and wife Linda (Waddell) of Tripoli, IA, Dan Block and wife Vicky (Hagedorn) of Sumner, IA, Tina (Block) Hageman and husband Mark, Ft. Atkinson, IA. great-grandchildren, Dalton & Morgan( Dan Block), Brady & Blake (Randy Block), Dylan, Megan and Britney (Tina (Block) Hageman). She was preceded in death by her husband, Vaylard Smith.

Trennis Lee T.L. Shanks
(February 19, 1929 - August 3, 2015)

Trennis Lee Shanks, 86, East Moline, died Monday, August 3, 2015 at his home, with his daughters at his side.

Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Friday, August 7, 2015 at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Interment will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, where the Colona American Legion will conduct military honors. Visitation is 5-7PM Thursday at the funeral home and 1 hour prior to services.

Trennis, “TL” was born February 19, 1929 in Portageville, MO, the son of Luther Shanks and Mildred (Shanks) Holloway.

He enlisted in the US Navy in 1947, serving during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge from active duty in 1951, he moved to the Quad Cities and began an apprenticeship with the Rock Island Lines. He remained in the Navy Reserves until 1968.

T.L. married Caroline Hardesty on November 16, 1952 in Corning, Arkansas. She died in 2011. T.L. was her devoted caregiver during the last years of her life.

After the closing of the Rock Island Lines, T.L. worked as a maintenance mechanic at the Rock Island Arsenal until his retirement in 1986.

Until a few years ago, T.L. enjoyed baking wonderful cakes for friends and family birthdays. His many pleasures included watching movies, dining out, Happy Hour, and making people laugh and fall for his tall tales.

Surviving are his daughters, Jane Shanks (Pam Bailey), Moline, and Carol (Keith) Beyhl, East Moline, grandsons, Logan Beyhl (Ariel Sanders), Chicago, IL and Cody Beyhl, East Moline; special friend Shirley Copeland, Colona; and his daily dining companions. He will be missed by many of the staff and residents of Park Vista.

The family extends special thanks to Genesis Hospice and the caregivers at Park Vista for their love and compassion.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the Colona American Legion, the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan or to the donor's favorite charity.

Shirley E. Feyen
(July 29, 1927 - August 1, 2015)

Shirley E. Feyen, 88, Silvis, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Aspen Rehab and Health, Silvis. Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Shirley was born July 29, 1927 in Hillsdale, IL, the daughter of Everett and Violet (Dopler) Willis. She married Eugene Van De Walle. She later married James Winchester. They both preceded her in death. Shirley enjoyed watching sports and loved animals.

Survivors include her daughters, Linda (Don) DeVore, Moline, and Karen (Dan) Ross, Colona and 5 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son Richard Van De Walle.

Sylvia A. Lovested
(June 9, 1920 - August 1, 2015)

Sylvia A. Lovested, 95, East Moline, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Rosewood Care Center, Moline. As per her request, her body will be cremated and a private memorial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the www.qcpaws.com.

Sylvia Bukovsky was born on June 9, 1920 in Moline, the daughter of Sigmund and Rose Bukovsky. She married Claude Lovested on February 14, 1942 in Rock Island. He died March 20, 1993. She retired as an accounting technician for the US Army Armament Command Finance and Accounting Division. Sylvia was a member of Royal Neighbors, Western Fraternal Association Camp 201, Union Club 434, Silvis Retired Senior Citizens, and United Township Senior Citizens. She loved traveling to her summer home in Wisconsin where she enjoyed fishing, boating and swimming.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Linda Lovested, East Moline, grandchildren, Jodi (Jason) Jensen, Hampton, Tiffany (Brad) Miller, Sherrard, and Jennifer Lovested, East Moline, great grandchildren, James Alan Jensen and Lily Miller, step grandchildren, Dawn, Chris and Sunny and their children, and a nephew Bruce (Cheryl) Hokinson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, son Alan Lovested, stepdaughter, Claudine Winter, and her sister Helen Hokinson.

Dora Nache Navarro
(February 14, 1939 - July 31, 2015)

Dora C. Nache Navarro, 76, Silvis, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2015 at her home. Funeral services are 10 AM Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Burial is in St. Mary's cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is 3-7 PM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 2:30 PM. Memorials may be made to In Touch.

Dora was born on February 14, 1939 in Moline, the daughter of Francisco and Carmen (Soto) Lopez. She married John R. Nache in 1955. He died October 31, 1998. She married Joseph Navarro in 2006. He died October 31, 2010. Dora was the head cook for George O Barr School in Silvis for many years. She was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and the Legion of Mary. She enjoyed traveling. She had a great love for her family and enjoyed attending her grandchildren's activities.

Survivors include her children, Rhoda Nache, John (Juanita) Nache Jr., and Esmeralda (Juan) Cacari, all of Silvis, grandchildren; Nick Nache, John Nache III, Dominic Nache, Oksana Cacari, Saskia Cacari, Dora Cacari, Chaise Nache and Ethan Nache, sister, Pomposa Rodriguez and brother Gonzalo Lopez, special niece and nephew, Rita and Bill Merrill, the Joe Navarro family, and many nieces nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by granddaughter, Anastasia Nache, sisters, Henrietta Jacobs, Marie Pena, Carmen DeLaRosa and brothers, John Lopez and Alfonso Lopez.

Leonora K Lance
(August 30, 1961 - July 30, 2015)

Leonora K. “Lori” Lance, 53, Moline, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Unity Point Trinity 7th Street, Moline. Funeral services are 10 AM Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7PM Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart, where she was a member.

Lori was born August 30, 1961, the daughter of John and Mary Simmons. She married Robert “Robby” Lance on February 14, 1990 in Colorado Springs, CO. Lori was a devout Catholic, and was known for her giving heart.

Survivors include her husband Robby, daughter, Lily, at home, sister Terri Murabito, Wichita, Kansas and brother, Joe Simmons, San Diego, California.

Gerald Hull
(February 27, 1936 - July 29, 2015)

Gerald “Hobo” Hull, 79, Moline passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at his home. Visitation is 3-7PM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Cremation rites will be accorded following visitation. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Jerry was born February 27, 1936 in Moline, the son of Glenn and Nellie Englehaupt Hull. He served in the US Army. He married Linda Anderson. He later married Helen Norin, she died March 18, 1990. He married Nancy Schinckel on August 31, 2002. He retired in 1982 as a sheer operator from the former International Harvester Works, East Moline. He was a member of the East End Boulder's Club, Moline, enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He enjoyed bowling in his younger years. After retirement he made golf clubs. He loved his trips to the Lake of the Ozarks and his Canadian fishing trips. He loved his family dearly.

Survivors include his wife Nancy, daughters, Connie (Bruce) Cornmesser, Moline, Geri “G.G.” Moseley, Moline, stepchildren, Deb (Terry) Schneider, East Moline, Cindi (Jon) Ellstrom, East Moline, Lisa Isbell (Bruce Shappard), Silvis, and Mick Thiem (Lynn Steagall), Silvis, four grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 17 step great grandchildren, with one on the way, sister Linda Ringier, Orion, special nephew, Richard (Jill) Hull, Arizona, and his little buddy, Ringo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, second wife, Helen, brother Allyn “Tink” Hull, stepson Rick Thiem, a niece and 3 nephews.

Sharon A. Brown
(November 19, 1969 - July 21, 2015)

Funeral services for Sharon A. Brown, 45, of Silvis, IL, will be 1:00PM Monday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Burial will be in Rock Island National cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00-5:00PM Saturday at the funeral home. Mrs. Brown died Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at her home. Sharon Tarver was born November 19, 1969, in Houston, TX, the daughter of Jimmy and Joan Tumlin Tarver. She married Jerry E. Brown June 8, 1990 in Rock Island, IL. He died September 21, 2007. Sharon worked as a tax preparer for B&C; Tax Service, Davenport, IA, for 20 years. She had been very active in the East Moline Little League, where over the years she coached, ran the concession stand, and had been the treasurer. She worked for the school district and enjoyed driving school and city busses. She enjoyed taking long trips, but most of all she loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Kiel, Kolten, Michael, Samantha, Ashley, and Amanda Brown, all of Silvis; grandchildren, Kaiden, Emilee, and Makenzie Brown; mother, Joan Boenitz, Silvis; father, Jimmy Tarver, MS; siblings, CarryAnne Tarver, Oklahoma City, OK, Shannon Airvick, TN, Wade Douglas Tarver (Bonnie Crowe) Muskogee, OK, William (Nicole) Boenitz, Silvis, Troy Boenitz, Buffalo, IA; brothers-in-law, Joe Brown, Eldrige, IA, and Jesse Brown, Anamosa, IA; special nieces and nephews, Justin Elliot, Vanessa Brown, Anthony Aaronson, Tarryl Nunn, Blake Tarver, Brett Crowe, and Brandi Lane; special friends, Brent (Laura) Fisher, Silvis, and Dave (Beth) Nowack, East Moline; and many more nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, and stepfather, Norman Boenitz. Memorials may be made to the family.

Thomas Erdman Pearson
(June 23, 1945 - July 20, 2015)

Thomas Erdman Pearson, 70, Colona, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2015 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA. Funeral services are 11 AM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation is one hour prior to services.

Tom was born on June 23, 1945 the son of Thomas and Lida (Erdman) Pearson. He grew up in Geneseo. He served in the National Guard. Tom retired as a union roofer. Tom enjoyed drag racing and raced his own car in Cordova, IL for many years.

Survivors include siblings, Lida Paller, Silvis and Marilyn Popelier, Moline, nieces and nephews, and brother-in-law, Bill Norris, Colona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Maureen Norris.

Stephen Montez
(April 6, 1991 - July 16, 2015)

Stephen "Stevie" Thomas Montez, 24 of Champaign, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Carle Hospital, Champaign. A memorial visitation will be held in the Parish Center of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Parish Center, Champaign from 4-7 PM Tuesday, July 21, 2015. Visitation is 4-7 PM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30PM. Funeral services are 10 AM Thursday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Catholic School, Champaign.

Stevie was born April 6, 1991, in Urbana Son of Ben and Margaret Montez. He had one sister Ramona Ines, who was closer than any friend he could ever have. Steve graduated from St. Thomas More High School, and in 2014 graduated with honors from the University of Illinois with a degree in Horticulture.

Steve was a wrestler, gardener, wood carver and loved to make small clay sculptures by hand. He helped found and coach the Saber Wrestling club with his dad while attending college. He helped coach the Junior Illini wrestling club as an olympic style greco roman wrestling coach. He had also begun to officiate wrestling after he moved away to begin his job. He also played rugby with the Champaign County Flatlanders for a short while. He loved working with kids on the wrestling teams and was selfless with his time. His clay penguin soldiers were collector items among teachers at St Thomas More who took them because he was making them in class. He loved a good joke and always had one at the ready or "one in the chamber" as he described it. He was also an outstanding gardener and leaves a legacy garden to his family that will be enjoyed for many years. He was also the best son and brother a family could have, kind, funny, humble, and generous to a fault. He had the heart of a wrestler and the soul of an artist. He was employed by Bailey Nurseries in Onarga, IL at the time of his passing.

Stevie was preceded in death by his grand parents, Jess and Carol (Valle) Montez, Thomas and Emma (Jackques) McGuire, Uncle Daniel Montez, Aunt Lenore Chavez and Aunt Banh Montez. He is survived by Aunts Rebecca (Bruce) VanHouten, Marilyn (John) Cross, Debra (Mark)Decker, Marina Castel, Monica McColley, Martha Haire, Louise (Perry) Ramirez, Marcella Montez and Uncles Al Montez, Luz Montez, Jerry (Norma) Montez and his godfather Stephen (Carla) Montez. He has dozens of cousins on all sides who will miss him greatly, but especially Chris, Katie and John Montez of Peoria, Illinois to whom he had a special bond. Steve also will be missed greatly by his dogs, Calabacita (Cita) and Tamale (Molly).

Marilyn S. Purvis
(May 12, 1933 - July 11, 2015)

Funeral services for Marilyn S. Purvis, 82, of Silvis, IL, will be 2:00 pm Wednesday at Homewood Evangelical Church, Moline, IL. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 pm Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Mrs. Purvis died Saturday, July 11, 2015, at Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis. Marilyn Nelson was born May 12, 1933, in Moline, the daughter of Harold and Ardis Patrick Nelson. She married Gerald Purvis March 8, 1952, in Rock Island, IL. He died in 2008. She had been the assistant and activities director at Happy Haven Nursing Home, Silvis, and Oak Glenn Nursing Home, Coal Valley, IL. Marilyn loved her Lord, her family, and her church family. She enjoyed camping, being around people and was a prayer warrior at church. Survivors include her sons, Gene (Sandy) Purvis, East Moline, and Terry Purvis, Fouke, AR; grandchildren, Greg (Carrie) Purvis, Steve (Amanda) Purvis, James “Mick” Purvis, and Alex Purvis; 3 great grandchildren; brother, Harold (Buelah) Nelson, Maryland Heights, MO; sister-in-law, Barbara Nelson, Davenport, IA; special friend, Karen Feather, Moline.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Gerald Purvis Jr.; sister, Dorothy Nelson; and brother, Kenneth Nelson.

Memorials may be made to Homewood Evangelical Church, where she had been a long time member.
