Irene Mary Williamson, 84, formerly of Moline, IL, died Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at Imboden Creek Living Center, Decatur, IL.

Memorial services for Irene Mary Williamson will be 1:00PM Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015 at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Visitation will be 2 hours before the service from 11AM-1PM with inurnment at St. Mary's cemetery in East Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to INBAF(Illinois News Broadcasters Association Foundation), 2206 N. Main – Suite 141, Wheaton, IL 60187. Irene Mary Leenknecht was born April 8, 1931 in Muscatine, IA, the daughter of Raymond and Helen Bermel Leenknecht. In 1974, she married Charles Williamson in Springfield, IL. She worked at area grocery stores and later in life volunteered at the South Brevard Center in Melbourne, FL. Above all else, Irene loved helping people. Irene is survived by her two granddaughters Mary (Jason) Magerl, Athen, IL and Elizabeth (Glenn Westfield) Murray, Champaign, IL; a daughter-in-law Sandy Murray, Decatur; great grand children Tommy Hunter, Tiffany Hunter, and Sydnee Magerl; and great great grandchildren Payton Hunter, Jayce Sklenka, Tommy Hunter Jr., and Alivia Hunter; one sister, Mary Buckley, Alton, IL and one brother Alfred Leenknecht, South Dakota; step-daughters Wendy Freebern and Tracy Claeys. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and son Robert “Bob” Murray.

Lois P. Sands
(June 21, 1927 - September 25, 2015)

Lois P. Sands, 88, Moline, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2015 at Hope Creek, East Moline. Funeral services are 12 Noon on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is from 11AM until service time, with a rosary recited at 11:45 AM. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Lois was born on June 21, 1927 in Rock Island. She married John “Jack” Sands on July 7, 1945 in Rock Island. He died in 1989. She retired from John Deere in 1978 as an Industrial Engineer. Lois enjoyed reading, needlepoint, sewing, dancing, working puzzles and being with her family. Lois had volunteered for the Moline Literacy Council as a tutor.

Survivors include her children, Michael (Carol) Sands, Madison, WI, Stephen Sands, East Moline, Kenneth (Marsha) Sands, Cedar Hill, MO, Kathy (Larry) Lyle, Moline and Darlene (William) Fairman, Aledo, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Mary DeSchoemaeker.

Gwendolyn J. Finch
(Died September 26, 2015)

Gwendolyn J. Finch, 70, Moline, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family . Funeral services are 1PM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.

Gwen Bowker was born on April 18, 1945 in Okemah, OK, the daughter of Ralph and Virgie Marie (Kelly) Bowker. She married David W. Finch on June 28, 1962 in Hampton. Mrs. Finch was a devoted member of East Moline Four Square Church. She enjoyed garage sales, shopping and her dogs. Gwen loved people and was always ready to help whenever she could.

Survivors include her husband Dave, children, Terri Finch, Silvis, Jackie (Scott) Timmons, Bettendorf, IA, and Michael (Rose Ann) Finch, Milan, seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and siblings, Gary Bowker, Barstow, IL, Vivian Puckett, Colona, Sharon Slocum, Mt. Joy, IA, and Audrey Kirby, Barstow and a great uncle Junior Bowker, Calhoun GA.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Melvin D. Bowker.

Karen I. Vershaw
(September 10, 1942 - September 26, 2015)

Karen I. Vershaw, 73, Hampton, passed away surrounded by her family, on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at her home. Funeral services are 10 AM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Karen was born on September 10, 1942 in Omaha, NE, the daughter of Charles and Bertha (German) Workman. She married Harry L. Vershaw in 1962 in East Moline. Harry passed away in 1990. Karen enjoyed camping, fishing, sewing and especially being with family.

Survivors include her children; Timothy (Wendy) Vershaw, Bellevue, NE, Harry “Chuck” (Tammy) Vershaw, Bricelyn, MN, Richard (Theresa) Vershaw, Hampton, Connie (Mark) Allison, Woodhull, IL and Kathy (Jochem) Menzenbach, Bonn, Germany, 17 grandchildren, 17 Great grandchildren, siblings, Marilyn (Robert) Meurrens, Omaha, NE, Judy (Joseph) Kisicki, Ashland, NE and Cheryl Buresh, Atlantic, IA, and a sister-in-law Velma Workman.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Ronald Workman.

Pamela Jean Ballard Hanssen
(July 16, 1954 - September 23, 2015)

Pamela Jean Ballard Hanssen, 61, Davenport, died Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at her home. Memorial visitation is 5-7PM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Inurnment will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Lodge, Iowa City, IA.

Pam Ballard was born on July 16, 1954 in Moline, the daughter of Melvin and Delores “Toody” Hearn Ballard. She graduated from UTHS in 1972. She had worked at the Rock Island Arsenal and EFS Services, Davenport.

Survivors include her daughter, Michelle (Sara) Pearce, Moline, grandchildren, Drew, Mitchell, Shelby, Frederick and Alexis, parents, Melvin (Lillian) Ballard, Rock Island, Toody (Cal) Freeland, Mulberry, FL, sisters, Jewell (Jerry) Joyce, Wilmington, DE, and Susan (Dennis) Hill, Davenport, IA, 2 nieces, a nephew, uncle Larry (Sue) Ballard, Green Valley, AZ, aunt, Phyllis Laiminger, Ft. Pierce, FL, and her 2 dogs.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Woodrow and Ruth Ballard and Ruth and Ralph Hearn and step father, Chuck Hoskins.

Martin "Marty" A. Trout
(February 20, 1957 - September 2, 2015)

Graveside services for Martin A. “Marty” Trout, 58, of Rock Island, IL, will be 9:00AM Tuesday at Rock Island Memorial Park cemetery, Rock Island. Memorial visitation will be 2:00-5:00PM Saturday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Mr. Trout died Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at his home. Memorials may be made to the family. Marty was born February 20, 1957, in Rock Island, the son of Ellry Allen and Mildred Smallwood Trout, Sr. He worked for Strieter Motor Company, Davenport, IA, since 1986. Survivors include his sons, William “Billy” Trout, Las Vegas, NV, and Daniel (Casey) Trout, Bettendorf, IA; granddaughter, Dasi-Ann Trout, Las Vegas and one on the way; brothers, Larry Trout, Rock Island, Tim (Deborah) Trout Sr., Davenport, Clarence (Brenda) Trout, Moline, IL, Ellry (Rosann) Trout Jr, Hillsdale, IL, and Russell (Chrystal) Trout Davenport; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and fiancee, Lori Kern.

Marsha "Jeannie" J. Hemphill
(February 1, 1951 - September 3, 2015)

Marsha J. “Jeannie” Hemphill, 64, Colona, IL, died Thursday, September 3, 2015 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, IA. Visitation is 3-6 PM Sunday at Van Hoe Funeral Home ltd., East Moline Memorials may be made to the family.

Marsha Smith was born on February 1, 1951 in Moline, the daughter of Bedford Ray and Marjorie Artes (Paschke) Smith. She graduated from UTHS class of 1969. She also received her Associates Degree in Applied Science from Black Hawk College, Moline. She married Bob Hemphill on October 17, 1975 in East Moline. She retired from JDIS after 37 years. Marsha enjoyed visiting with family and friends, especially time with her grandkids. Gardening, ceramics and shopping were high on her list of activities.

Survivors include her husband, Bob, sons Ryan of Colona and Derek, Westmont, IL, grandchildren, Adison and Aidan, siblings, John A (Mary) Smith, Brian (Barb) Smith and Pam Serra, all of Colona, special friends, Kenny and Debbie Collis, and numerous nieces and nephews, who all referred to Jeannie as their favorite aunt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, stepson Todd Hemphill and great nephew, Zac Phillips.

Nancy Zywot
(April 2, 1926 - August 29, 2015)

Nancy Dixon Zywot, 89, died peacefully on August 29, 2015 at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline. Born April 2, 1926 in Manchester, England, Nancy grew up in New York City. Following her marriage to John Joseph Zywot December 7, 1943, Nancy and John lived in upper state New York, Maryland, New Jersey and Silvis, Illinois.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents William and Hannah Dixon, husband John and sister Constance Phoebe Krier.

She leaves behind 7 children: Andrew (Martina), Alaska; William, Montana; Nancy Gentry (Gary Nolan), Davenport; Tom, Seattle; Maryann Zywot (John Vicente), California; Elizabeth Brown (Jerry), Missouri; and Victoria Snyder (Tim), Michigan; 14 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

Wherever Nancy lived she was active in clubs and organizations including square dancing, PTA, League of Women’s Voters, Theater groups, bridge, crafts, hospital auxiliary volunteer (25 years) and was a member of the Eastern Star. She was an avid writer and has written columns for newsletters and newspapers. Most notable to Nancy’s commitment was her passion for reading and literacy where she served on the board of the Silvis Public Library for 28 years.

Nancy’s reflection on her belief of the magic of books is aptly said by Harry Potter’s character Albus Dumbledore:

“Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic. Capable of both inflicting injury, and remedying it”.

Services for Nancy will be private. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Rock Island Arsenal National cemetery.

Memorials may be made to The Friends of the Silvis Public Library, Silvis, Illinois 61282.

Charmaine Blackman
(November 16, 1949 - August 29, 2015)

Charmaine R. Blackman, 65, Moline, passed away, peacefully, surrounded by her family on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at her home. A memorial visitation will be held from 4-6 PM on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline.

Charmaine was born on November 26, 1949 in Moline, the daughter of Clayton and Delores (Bull) Blackman. She enjoyed playing bingo, gardening, knitting and crocheting. She was a wonderful cook, loved spending time with her grand babies, being on facebook and always got the last word.

Survivors include her children, Debra Althiser, Davenport, Laurie Althiser, Port Byron and Melissa Dieng, Davenport, grandchildren, Cody, Kali, Kara, Olivia, Harley, and Ronda, nine great grandchildren, sister Connie Fox, Niangua, MO, her special friend Ron, nephews, Mark Fox and Rob Toland and nieces, Vickie Warren, Deb Bremer, Tracy Gonzalez, Kim Masters and Jackie McConnell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Lorraine, Delores and Carol, niece Angie and grandson Kenneth.

Jeffrey F. Guthrie
(September 11, 1953 - August 25, 2015)

Jeffrey F. Guthrie, 61, East Moline, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015, at Genesis East, Davenport. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Burial is at St. Mary's cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and gifts, a memorial fund has been established.

Jeff was born Sept. 11, 1953, in Moline, the son of Frank and Florence Dhaemers Guthrie. He married Kathy Blunke on May 24, 1974. Jeff was an artist who had an incredible knack for graphic design. He co-owned Midwest Graphics Management, East Moline. He was a tireless activist for East Moline, and in particular the Downtown. He volunteered his time and invested his life in East Moline. Jeff also worked with the city of Rock Island on many projects. His energy was endless and his presence will be deeply missed. He had a love for cars, especially those of European design.

Survivors include his children, Adam Guthrie, Moline; daughter, Dorie Guthrie, Brooklyn, N.Y.; brother, Frank Guthrie, Kathy Guthrie, Shawnee, Kan.; and his girlfriend, Laura Henneman, Davenport.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Maxine.

Charles W. "Charlie" "Bob" Weiss
(October 7, 1932 - August 24, 2015)

Funeral services for Charles W. “Charlie” “Bob” Weiss, 82, of Hampton, IL, will be 10:00 am Thursday at Hampton Grace Methodist Church. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 3:00-8:00 pm Wednesday (today) at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 pm. Mr. Weiss died Monday, August 24, 2015, at his home. Charles was born October 7, 1932, in Clarion, IA, the son of Charlie E. and Marian F. Smith Weiss. He was raised on the family farm and attended a one room schoolhouse in Dows, IA. He moved to Illinois in 1943. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1954, being stationed on the 38th parallel. He married Valerie Baff April 17, 1955, at Port Byron Methodist Church, Port, Byron, IL. Charles started work at the age of 16 at International Harvester, East Moline, where he worked 43 years and retired. He then contracted with them for 13 more years until the plant closure in 2004. His family was his world. He loved to share his many stories with his grandkids and great grandkids of his mischievous adventures as a youth. He had been a member of Hampton Grace Methodist Church for 50 years, Free Mason for 55 years, Past Patron of the Order of Eastern Star, and a Hampton Volunteer Fire Fighter. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Valerie Weiss, Hampton; daughter, Stacey (Michael) Graham, Erie, IL; son, Charles J. (Melinda) Weiss, Clarksville, TN; grandchildren, Tami (Guy) Gerard, Moline, IL, Jeremy (Teanna) McCabe, Taylor Ridge, IL, Charles Thomas (Sherrod) Weiss, Fayetteville, NC, Joseph Weiss, Peoria, and Hilary Graham (fiance, Jeffery Shaffer), McLean, IL; great grandchildren, Morgan and Alexis Gerard, Myles and Cole McCabe, and Landen Shaffer; sister, Betty Baff, Port Byron; brothers, William Weiss, Hampton, and Byrl Weiss, East Moline. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Lisa Jeané; brother, Harold Lee; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Weiss; and brother-in law, Jerry Baff. Memorials may be made to the family.

Eduardo "Lalo" González
(October 13, 1934 - August 24, 2015)

Funeral services for Eduardo “Lalo” González, 80, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00 am Saturday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, East Moline. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 pm Friday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm. Mr. Gonzalez died Monday, August 24, 2015, at his home. Lalo was born October 13, 1934, in Tepechitlan, Zacatacas, Mexico, the son of Andres and Guadalupe Rivas González. He married Aurelia Meza. He retired from the Mexican Navy. He had worked for Frank Foundry, Moline, and as a bartender at the Latin Village, East Moline. He had been a loving, husband, father, brother, and uncle. Survivors include his wife, Aurelia Meza, Mexicali, Baja, California, Mexico; son, Jose Guadalupe González Meza, Mexicali; grandsons, Cristian Ivan, Omar Alan and Edgar Hiram González; siblings, Jose I.(Maria) González, Silvis, Trinidad Martinez, Mexicali, CA, Soledad Flores, Los Angeles, CA, Carmen Ortega, Villa González, Tamaulipas, Mexico, and Amparo Ortega, Villa González; special nieces and nephews, Jesus (Eva) González, Moline, IL, Jose I. González Jr., Rapids City, IL, Nicolas (Isabel) González, West Hills, CA, Maria González, Silvis, IL, Guadalupe (Anthony) DiToro, Hampton, IL, Miguel (Rebecca) González, Springdale, AR, Manuel (Andrea) González, Silvis, Andres (Andrea) González, Colona, IL, Carmen (Andrew) Braaten West Lakeland, MN, and Jorge (Xochitl) González, Joliet, IL; and many other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins, and friends. James David Robinson
(April 2, 1925 - August 22, 2015)

James David Robinson, 90, Silvis, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at his home. Funeral services are 10 AM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to The Alzheimer's Association.

James was born on April 2, 1925 in McDonough County, IL, the son of Perry and Julia (Logan) Robinson. He married Jane Lawyer on September 12, 1953 in East Moline. James had worked for John Deere Spreader Works and served as vice president of the UAW 79. He transferred to the John Deere Distribution Warehouse and served as president of the UAW 79 for 12 years. He had also worked for HC Duke and Son for a few years. Mr. Robinson served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1950-1952. He and Jane loved to travel and had visited 49 of the 50 United states and visited many places abroad. In his early years he was an exceptional baseball player and was proud of his Gin Ridge team. James had a green thumb, and enjoyed working in the garden and with flowers.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 62 years, Jane, sons, Bill (Sharon) Robinson, Macomb, and Jay A. Robinson, Las Vegas, NV, grandchildren, Tammy Robinson, Angie Louden and Ryan Robinson, and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Clinton, Arthur, Leslie and Mabel.

Esther O. Stoneburner
(July 24, 1916 - August 19, 2015)

Esther O. Stoneburner, 99, East Moline, died Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Heartland Health, Moline. Graveside services are 11:30 AM Saturday at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is from 10 AM until 11 AM Saturday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. A memorial fund has been established.

Esther was born on July 24, 1916 in Luverne, MN, the daughter of Herman and Marie Gullickson, Muecke. She married John “Bill” Stoneburner on October 2, 1964. He died December 5, 2006. She and her husband enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol (Bob) Ballard, Davenport, Grandson, Mark Dean Ballard, Bettendorf and great grandsons, Kyle (Alyssa) and Ryan.

Raymond Calsyn
(January 19, 1942 - August 16, 2015)

Raymond J. Calsyn, 73, East Moline, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2015, surrounded by his family. Memorial services are 11 AM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Inurnment will be in St. Mary's cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Ray was born January 19, 1942 in Moline, the son of Harry and Madeline (Maes) Calsyn. He married Nancy Van Opdorp on March 13, 1965. He had worked for 20 years for John Deere Plow Planter Works. He started Calsyn & Sons Inc. in 1983 and ran the business with his children and grandchildren until his death. He enjoyed flower gardening, watching the stock market, watching NASCAR, playing with all of his grandchildren and his great grandchildren, and loving his 3 dogs, Roscoe, Max and Sam.

Survivors include his wife Nancy, daughters, Tammy (Joel) Garrison, Holiday, FL, Ann (John) Bull, East Moline, sons Raymond Calsyn Jr. (Brian Haessler), Mineral, IL, and Michael (Sue) Calsyn, Silvis, ten grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, sister, Marion (Denny) Lorenz, Hampton, aunt, Evonna Wallace, East Moline, cousin Pat Brown, Coal Valley and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his daughter Carol Stottler.
