Funeral services for Carl R. Goday, 84, of Silvis, IL, will be 10:00AM Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline, IL. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00PM Wednesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30PM. Mr. Goday died Sunday, April 8, 2012 at his home. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Carl was born January 14, 1928 in Moline, IL, the son of Carl and Emma DeClercq Goday. In his earlier years Carl had worked for various restaurants including The Plantation. He retired from Walgreens Drug Store, Moline, after 30 years of service. He had been an active member of the Silvis Senior Citizens and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, where he had held several positions in the Blessed Fr. Pro Men's Club. Survivors include nieces and nephews, Diana Dale, Colona, IL, Robert (Michelle) Dale, Colona, Charles (Nancy) Dale, Colona, Patti (Tom) Ketelsen, East Moline, Debra (Jimmy) Donald, Willis, TX, William (Patty) Dale, Milan, Marianne (Mike) Bailey, Moseley, VA, Mike Dale, Colona, Richard Dale, Elgin, Il, Joette Hula, Imperial, MO, Linda Busey, Springfield, IL, Steve Busey, Springfield, and Kathy Busey Jacksonville, IL; many great and great-great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Shirley Dale and Mary Jo Busey, and his dogs, Duke 1 and Duke 2.

Harold A. Wieland
(June 21, 1928 - April 11, 2012)

Harold A Wieland, 83, East Moline, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Trinity Rock Island. Funeral services are 10 AM Saturday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Entombment is in St. Mary's Mausoleum, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct military honors. Visitation is 4-7PM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30PM. Memorials may be made to St. Anne Church, where he was a member.

Harold was born June 21, 1928 in Johnson County, IA, the son of Floyd and Pauline (Schulze) Wieland. He married Lorraine Ballegeer on August 7, 1951. She passed away on August 29, 2010. Harold served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired as Maintenance Supervisor for Rock Island County. Mr. Wieland was an excellent carpenter and was able to fix anything. He enjoyed working on his computer and vegetable gardening. Harold was a wonderful husband and father.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Cindy Wieland, Coal Valley, grandchildren, Jennifer Wieland, Matt Hehmeyer, Chris Hehmeyer and Jessica (Andy) Danek, great grandson, Thomas Reich, sisters Alberta DeDoncker, Moline and Edna Wieland, Bolingbrook, IL, brothers James Wieland, Rock Island and Robert Wieland, Sun City West, AZ and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his daughter Janet, his parents and his sister Anna Wieland.

Sadie J. Elias-Bakeris
(February 14, 1913 - April 8, 2012)

Funeral services for Sadie J. Elias-Bakeris, 99, of East Moline, IL, will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Rock Island, IL. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Moline, IL. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 Monday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd, East Moline, where a Trisagion (Prayer Service) will be held at 6:30 P.M. Mrs. Bakeris died Sunday, April 8, 2012 at HCR Manor Care, Davenport, IA. Memorials may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Rock Island, Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline, or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Sadie Changas was born February 14, 1913 in Greece, the daughter of Stavros and Helen Passalis Changas. She married Anastasios “Thomas” Elias October 15, 1936 in East Moline. He died September 27, 1956. She later married Nicholas Bakeris in 1965 in Moline. He died in 1991. She and her husband Thomas had owned and operated Tom's Market in Moline. She then worked for Sears Roebuck, Moline, and McCabes, Rock Island, before retiring. She was quite a traveler during her life, New York held a special place in Sadie's heart. Sadie had many loves, playing cards and dancing being a couple of them and in her younger years, Sadie could dance a mean polka.

Survivors include her daughter, JoElaine (Dale) Allison, Bettendorf, IA; son, Milton (Lynne) Elias, Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Dan (MaryAnn) Allison, Matthew (Anne) Allison, Michael (Anne) Allison, Chad (Heather) Elias and Jason (Stephanie) Elias; great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Kathryn, Sophia, Sarina, Samuel, Rebekah, Emma and Abigail.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sisters, Nora Stavros and Loy Whizenand, brother, James “Jim” Changas. Sadie, you are truly “Sadie the Lady.”

Glenn Fischlein
(January 11, 1947 - April 11, 2012)

Glenn A. Fischlein, 65, East Moline, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. Graveside services are 10:30 AM Monday at Rock Island National cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. Anyone wishing to attend should meet at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline at 10 AM. A memorial fund has been established at the Deere Harvester Credit Union, East Moline.

Glenn was born, January 11, 1947 in Davenport, IA. He married LaWanda Lee in May of 1971 and together they had two children. He retired from the Maintenance Department of John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline. Glenn served in the US Army during the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his children, Michael Fischlein, East Moline, and Glenda Lopez, Victoria, MN, four grandchildren, a sister Karen Mecum, Kansas City, MO, and brothers, Tom of Eldridge, IA and Terry, Marietta, GA.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jack, Dennis and David.

Lucille Schwartz
(April 10, 1925 - April 15, 2012)

Lucille M. Schwartz, 87, East Moline, died Sunday, April 15, 2012 at the home of her daughter Alice in East Moline. Visitation is 5-7PM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, with a time of sharing at 6:30PM. Graveside services are 11 AM Thursday at Oak Hill cemetery, Tama, IA. Memorials may be made to the Red Cross.

Lucille Moyer was born, April 10, 1925 in Tama County, IA, the daughter of Amiel and Alice (Schafer) Moyer. She married Walter E. Schwartz on October 27, 1946 in Davenport, IA. Walter died October 9, 2000. Lucille had worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for Morris Muhleman and Dr. C.P. O'Neill. Lucille was always doing things for those she loved. Her past time was flowers, sewing and genealogy. She was a member of the Mary Little Deere-Fort Armstrong Chapter, Moline and DAR.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Larry Lagaisse of East Moline, IL, sons and daughter-in-law, Steve and Kathlyn Schwartz of Whitewright, TX, Thomas and Brenda Schwartz of Milan, IL, grandchildren, Bryan Whittington, Victoria Thomas, Jason Schwartz, Shawn Schwartz, Kimber Sheffler, John Lagaisse, Jeff Lagaisse, Jeremy Selting, Delia Schwartz, and thirteen great-grandchildren, and sister Eleanor Tomlinson, Gilman, IA .

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter, daughter Barbara Whittington, her grandson, Charles Whittington and her brother Carroll Moyer.

Gretchen Kruse
(March 19, 1982 - April 15, 2012)

Gretchen K. Kruse, 30, Port Byron, died Sunday, Apirl 15, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. Funeral services are 10 AM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Hampton cemetery. Visitation is 2-7PM Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family request that memorials may made to a fund for her children.

Gretchen DeVrieze was born March 19, 1982 in Rock Island, the daughter of Randy W. and Linda (Leffler) DeVrieze. She graduated from UTHS, the class of 2000 and then from Hamilton Technical College. She married Sean Kruse on May 19th, 2007 in East Moline. She was working as a claims processor at United Health Care. She had played in Twin Rivers Softball league and loved the game of softball. She enjoyed drag racing and demolition derby. Gretchen has touched many lives during her short time on this earth. Her greatest joy was being a mother to her children. Gretchen gave the gift of life as an organ donor.

Survivors include her husband Sean, her children, Kolton and Kami, her parents Randy and Lin DeVrieze, East Moline and brothers Raymond L Hughes Jr., Milan and Adrien “Scott” DeVrieze, Moline, her grandmother Helen Gretchen Leffler, W. Burlington, IA, her husband's parents, Bill and Ruth Kruse, brother-in-law, Seth Kruse and a host of aunts, uncles cousins and friends.

Judith "Judy" Ann Maffie
(August 10, 1946 - April 22, 2012)

Funeral services for Judith “Judy”A. Maffie, 65, of East Moline, IL, will be 5:00PM Thursday the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Visitation will be 2:00-5:00 PM prior to services at the funeral home. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Judy died Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Trinity Rock Island, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Judy DeSmyter was born August 10, 1946 in Moline, IL, the daughter of Ambrose and Susanne DeSmet DeSmyter. She was a graduate of Alleman High School. She married Art Maffie in 1967 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. She retired from John Deere Insurance, Moline, IL, in 1994 after 30 years of service. Judy was a very good listener and tried to see the humor in every situation. She loved to laugh. She enjoyed traveling. She was a wonderful mother and friend. Survivors include her daughter, Gia Maffie (fiance, Lars Veberg), brother, Tom DeSmyter, East Moline; nieces, Cindy (Paul) Gonzales and Lori (Toschia) DeSmyter; nephew, Matt (Michelle) DeSmyter; special friend, Jan Cotton, Davenport, IA; companion of 30 years, Walt Carlin, FL; her dog Ozzie, who she loved very much. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Elaine DeSmyter.

Mary Kerckhove
(April 30, 1917 - April 24, 2012)

The following is the obituary for Mary and Julius Kerckhove:

Mary C. Kerckhove, 94, East Moline, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. Her Husband Julius A Kerckhove, 94, died Thursday April 26, 2012 at Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis. Funeral services for our loving parents, are 10 AM Saturday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline, where the couple were members. Entombment is in St. Mary's cemetery. Visitation is from 8:00 until 9:30 AM Saturday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline.

Mary Gaydos was born June 30, 1917 in Kewanee, IL, the daughter of Charles and Barbara (Michalick) Gaydos. She retired in 1989 from the Laundry at Illini Hospital, Silvis. Mary enjoyed raising African Violets, reading andembroidery.

Julius was born August 24, 1917 in East Moline, the son of Cyriel and Alida (DeBruyne) Kerckhove. The two were married on October 18, 1941 in East Moline. Julius retired in 1979 from the sales department from Moorman Manufacturing Co., Quincy, IL, after 28 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters, a 50 year member of the East Moline American Legion post 227, the Moline VFW and the Moline Conservation Club. Mr. Kerckhove served in the US Army during WWII. In April of 2011, he and his son were fortunate to take an Honor Flight. He enjoyed wood working, gardening, and loved going fishing.

Survivors include their children Diane and George Karoules, East Moline and Dennis and Betty Kerckhove, East Moline, grandchildren, Thomas (Kelly) Kerckhove and Debra (Brad) Derham, great-grandchildren, Jessica, Nathan, Jacob, Madeline and Catherine, Mary's brother Donald (Patricia) Gaydos, East Moline, and Julius' sister Germaine Miller, and brother Maurice Kerckhove, both of Moline, IL.

Mary is preceded in death by brothers Johnny and Joseph and sister, Angela Dellaert.

Julius is preceded in death by his brother Marcel.

Robert Nemetz
(November 3, 1918 - April 23, 2012)

Graveside services for Robert “Bob” Nemetz, 93 of East Moline, IL, will be 10AM Tuesday at the Rock Island National cemetery, Rock Island, IL, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. Anyone wishing to attend should be at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, by 930 AM. Bob's family will greet friends prior to leaving for the cemetery. There will be a gathering following the service at Bobbe Cobert's home. Mr. Nemetz died Monday, April 23, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, IL. Bob was born November 3, 1918 in Ladysmith, WI, the son of “Bob” Bohosalav and Theresa Adamic Nemetz. He married Therese Peterson in 1944 in Fort Benning, GA. She died in 1979. He latter married Emily Cobert in 1980 in St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. He retired from Alcoa in 1978 after 31 years of service. Survivors include his wife, Emily Nemetz, Silvis, IL; daughter, Karen (Scott) Tulloch, Jamul, CA; son, Steven (Wendy) Nemetz, Hampton, VA, 2 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; stepdaughters, Bobbe Cobert, East Moline and Patti (Steve) O'Connell, Marion, IA; stepson, David (Debbie) Cobert, Silvis; 6 step-grandchildren; 1 step-great-grandson. He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, sisters, Georgia Miller and Ellen Nemetz.

Orriel L. VanHollebeke
(October 14, 1929 - April 25, 2012)

Orriel L. VanHollebeke, 82, East Moline died Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. Funeral services are 10 AM Monday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Entombment is in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation is 3-5PM Sunday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3PM. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Orriel Kave was born on October 14, 1929 in East Moline, the daughter of William and Faye (Burrell) Kave. Her mother had a piano teacher named Orriel and chose the name for her first born daughter. Throughout her life, Orriel loved the uniqueness of her name and never met another person with it. She married Robert VanHollebeke on October 9, 1948 in Moline. In early years, Orriel had worked for the former Illinois Bell Telephone and for Ben Franklin. Mrs. VanHollebeke loved her family, and especially enjoyed time with her grand and great-grandchildren. She and her husband were avid Iowa Hawkeye fans and Notre Dame fans. Orriel had made many wonderful friends at the Quad City Kidney Center, Silvis.

Survivors include her children, Douglas (Susan) VanHollebeke, East Moline, Josie Woodward, East Moline and Cory (Jim) Yeager, Moline, grandchildren, Shawn (Michael) Chaney, Sarah VanHollebeke, Amy Woodward, Kyle (Melissa) Yeager, Hannah Yeager, and Brett Yeager, great-grandchildren, Kaden, Cameron, Avery and John “J.J”, and sisters, Mildred Foutch, Raleigh, NC, Marian Reddick, New Windsor, IL and Carole Stewart, Cleveland, IL.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her sister Colleen Watkins and brothers Grady Kave and Sheldon Kave and her parents.

Julius A. Kerckhove

Lillian DeWulf
(June 18, 1929 - April 26, 2012)

Lillian DeWulf, 82, East Moline, died Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Aspen Health and Rehab, Silvis. Funeral services are 11 AM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National cemetery. Visitation is 1 hour prior to services. A memorial fund has been established.

Lillian Klingborg was born June 18, 1929 in Cleghorn, IA, the daughter of David and Anna (Carlson) Klingborg. She married Albert DeWulf on May 10, 1952 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. Lillian had worked as a commercial artist for Deere and Company from 1949 until 1964. After leaving Deere, she did freelance work and later owned and operated Second Time Around in Moline from the mid 1980's to the mid 1990's. Lillian was a skilled carpenter who loved designing, remodeling and building.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 60 years, Albert, daughters and sons-in-law, Ana and Pete Hill, Wheaton, IL and Lisa and Gary Randolph, Silvis, grandchildren, Dustan, Andrew, Tyler, Sam, Charlie and Grace, sisters, Mae Hendericks, Moline and Violet Mienke, East Moline and sisters-in-law, Mary Klingborg, Ginney Klingborg and Patricia (Barry) Davison.

She is preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and 2 brothers.

Joyce Carter
(February 9, 1934 - April 26, 2012)

Joyce M. Carter, 78, of Silvis, passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at home. Visitation for Joyce will be at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., 1500 6th Street, East Moline on Monday from 4-7 PM, with a rosary recited at 4PM. A Funeral Mass celebrating her life will be held at 11 AM Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 800 17th Street, Silvis, IL, Fr. Greg Jozefiak, Pastor will officiate. Burial is in Greenview memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the Moline American Legion Auxiliary 2011.

Joyce was born February 9, 1934 in Rock Island, the daughter of Chester and Katherine Warzinski. She graduated from Alleman High School in 1953. Joyce was employed for many years at the Rock Island Bank and Trust. She later worked at the IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union, East Moline, before retiring in 1996. Joyce and her husband Guy were avid square dancers (Do-Si-Does) and traveling RVers for years to Canada, Alaska, Florida and Texas. Joyce was a member of the Ladies Moline Legion Auxiliary . She attended Black Hawk College, and avid bowler, enjoyed quilting, ceramics and loved flower gardening. She will always be remembered as quiet, kind a loving person who would always be there to help someone. Her family thanks Trinity Pathway Hospice for their excellent care and two of her special friends Delores Layer and Sally Elliott for the support.

Survivors include her husband Guy, brother Ronald Warzinski, Walla Walla, WA, sons and daughter, Daniel and wife Mary, East Moline, Craig, East Moline, Michell, Silvis and Matthew, Silvis.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and a brother William Warzinski.

Terry M. Sherwood
(September 5, 1967 - April 27, 2012)

Private funeral services for Terry M. Sherwood, 44, of East Moline, IL, will be held Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, East Moline. Mr. Sherwood died Friday, April 27, 2012 at Galesburg Terrace, Galesburg, IL. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Terry was born September 5, 1967, in Rock Island, IL, the son of Joseph and Stella Coronell Sherwood. He had worked for the Quad City Times and been self employed. Survivors include his mother, Stella Coronell, East Moline; father, Joseph Sherwood, CA; aunts; and many cousins.
