June 20, 1945 - October 8, 2009

Funeral services for John E. Versypt, 64, Cordova, IL, are 10 AM Tuesday, at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Inurnment will be in St. Mary's cemetery, East Moline. Visitation will be 3-7 PM Monday at the funeral home. John died Thursday, October 8, 2009 in Iowa City, IA. In lieu of flowers and statuary, memorials may be made to Kids Around the World, Blackhawk Baptist Camp, or to Honor Flight of the Quad-Cities. John was born June 20, 1945 in Moline, the son of Andre and Grace (Lenc) Versypt. He married Janet Verhaeghe on April 11, 1975 at St. Mary's Church, East Moline. He retired after 30 years from the Product Development Division of John Deere Experimental, Silvis. Following retirement, John ran a lawn mowing service and took care of his many rental properties. He served as past president of the Quad City Rental Property Association and trained landlords in application screening. As the proud owner of a 1967 Pontiac GTO, he was a member of the Good Guys Car Club and enjoyed attending car shows with his best buddies. He was a NASCAR fan and attended races whenever possible. He liked boating and traveling in his motorhome. John always found his greatest pleasure with his family. Survivors include his wife Janet, children: Jennifer (Rev. Benjamin) Wakefield, Indianapolis, IN and Joel Versypt and his special friend Ashlee Ford, and sisters: Mary (William) Tiernan, East Moline and Joanne De Coster, Bettendorf, IA, and many nieces and nephews.

Gretchen Joy Wallace
(December 26, 1936 - December 19, 2014)

Gretchen Joy Wallace, 77, East Moline, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2014 at home, surrounded by her family. Funeral services are 9 AM Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7 PM Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Wildwood Baptist Church, East Moline or the American Cancer Society.

Gretchen Wonderlich was born on December 26, 1936 in Ollie, IA, the daughter of Walt and Frances Briffey Wonderlich. She married Robert Wallace on July 17, 1954 at the Watertown Baptist Church, East Moline. Mrs. Wallace retired from Deere and Co. After retirement she owned Now and Then Antiques in East Moline. Gretchen enjoyed antiquing and going to auctions. She loved boating on the Mississippi River. Most of all she enjoyed her time with family and friends.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Robert, children; Kevin and Ann Wallace, East Moline, Kris Wallace, Alpine, CA, Todd Wallace, East Moline, Shawn and Pam Wallace, East Moline and Brian and Kim Wallace, East Moline, grandchildren, Brad, Brent, Ryan, Kyle, Emily, Paige, and Courtney, great grandchildren, Bailey and Payton, a sister Susan and Tom Bussert, East Moline and brother Don and Judy Bohenkamp, Blaine, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Bill Wonderlich.

Ann Marie Hardin
(August 21, 1962 - December 19, 2014)

Ann Marie Hardin, 52, Rock Island, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2014 at Hope Creek, East Moline. Funeral services are 11:00 AM Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Burial is in Rock Island National cemetery. Visitation is one hour before the service at the church. A memorial fund has been established.

Ann Lambrecht was born on August 21, 1962 in Moline, the daughter of George and Rachael (Jackson) Lambrecht. She married James Crawmer and together they had a son, Marc. She later married Ed Hardin. She had worked as a waitress at various restaurants and had worked as an assistant for local attorneys.

Survivors include her son, Marc Allen (Melanie) Crawmer of Cataula, GA; grandchildren, Eve Marie and Marc Allen Jr.; her parents, George and Rachael Lambrecht, East Moline; siblings, Joan Marie (Gary) Cook, East Moline, John Allen (Nicki) Lambrecht, East Moline, Dan Allen (Val) Lambrecht, East Moline and Dave Allen (Letres) Lambrecht, Silvis; several nieces and nephews.

Christ A. Petaros
(Died December 19, 2014)

Chris A Petaros died peacefully surrounded by his family on December 19 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, IA. Chris and his wife Helen were in the restaurant business in the Quad-Cities for over 50 years, owning the Olympic Flame Restaurant in East Moline, IL, until 2005.

Services will be held on Saturday, December 27 at 11 am at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in East Moline, IL Visitation will be on Friday, December 26 from 3:00 to 6:00 at Van Hoe Funeral Home with a Trisagion Prayer service at 6:00.

Chris was born in Kollines, Greece, on March 9, 1919 to Anastasios and Stamata Petaros.

Chris Served in the Greek Army during the Second World War where he was held captive on the Island of Crete for a year. He continued to serve during the Greek Civil War which followed World War II.

Chris emigrated to Chicago in 1951 and eventually moved to Maquoketa, IA where he helped his brother at the Green Mill restaurant and candy shoppe. He was known to make over 100 taffy apples and the famous Green Mill turtles as well as run the kitchen.

He married Helen Theofilis in 1955 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Moline. He and Helen moved to the Quad-Cities in 1958, where they ran the Brown Owl restaurant. They bought the Hughes Sandwich shop in downtown Moline in 1964 with Helen working the day shift and Chris working the night shift.

In 1967, they purchased the Irish Inn in Silvis, IL, remodeling and changing the name to the Olympic Flame in 1974. They were the first restaurant in the Quad Cities area to introduce a full Greek menu and were proud to serve so many loyal customers over the years as well as some well-known including Sergeant Shriver and Kitty Dukakis. They hosted countless wedding receptions, engagement parties, baptisms, retirements and other celebrations.

Chris enjoyed sitting at the bar after a hard day's work to visit and share stories of his life with the regular customers; many of whom lovingly referred to him as “Daddy” and he called them “Susie.”

Manuel Campos
(August 16, 1959 - December 19, 2014)

Funeral services for Manuel Raya Campos, 55, of Moline, IL, will be noon Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Moline. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, East Moline. Visitation will be 9:00-11:00AM Saturday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Mr. Campos died Friday, December 19, 2014, at University Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, IA.

Manuel was born August 16, 1959, in Puerta del Monte, GTO, Mexico, the son of Faustino and Ana Raya Campos. He married Carmen Rosas, July 10, 1980, in Mexico. Manuel had worked for KLLM Transport, Jackson, MS, as a truck driver.

Survivors include his wife, Carmen Campos, Moline; sons, Mario and Julio Campos, at home; grandson, Jaydon; his mother, Ana Campos, Puerta del Monte, Mexico; sisters, Guadalupe Campos, Mexico, Eva (Joe) Kritzeck, St. Cloud, MN, Carmen Campos, Mexico, and Marcela Campos, Moline; brothers, Moises (Irma) Campos, Oroville, CA, Jose (Gloria) Campos, Moline, and Faustino (Ana) Campos, Moline.

He is preceded in death by his father and daughter, Claudia Campos.

Shirley M. Koehler
(February 22, 1935 - December 22, 2014)

Shirley M. Koehler, 79, Andover, formerly of East Moline, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2014 at her home. Funeral services are 3PM Saturday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Moline. Private family committal will be on Monday at the Rock Island National cemetery. Visitation is from 1PM until service time at the church. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church where she was a member or to Bethesda Home, Watertown, WI.

Shirley Peterman was born on February 22, 1935 in Bonduel, WI, the daughter of Herbert and Hertha (Boettcher) Peterman. She married Robert H. Koehler on April 30, 1955 in Bonduel. Shirley enjoyed reading and was a lifetime member of of the Illini Hospital Auxillary.

Survivors include her husband Robert, daughter, Lori (Jeff) Fones, Galesburg, IL, son, Mark (Staci) Koehler, Sherrard, IL, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and her sister Marjorie (Gordon) Ainsworth, Bonduel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Jeannie, Lois and Janice.

Edward Van Wiel
(July 28, 1915 - December 24, 2014)

Edward A Van Wiel, 99, Silvis, passed away on December 24, 2014 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. Funeral services are 10 AM Saturday January 3, 2015 at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial is in St. Mary's cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is 1 hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Anne Church, where he was a member.

Ed was born on July 27, 1915 in Seattle, WA, the son of Emil and Celina Van Wiel. He married Virginia DeMeyer on May 6, 1939 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. She died February 22, 2007. Mr. Van Wiel worked as an insurance agent for Prudential Insurance. After retirement he worked as a courier at Black Hawk College, Moline. He enjoyed making miniature trains and ships from aluminum pop cans.

Survivors include his children, Fr. John Van Wiel, Arlington Heights, IL and Marjorie Dennison, Santa Clarita, CA, seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, sons, Larry and Michael and his sister Helen.

Bertha R. Beert
(January 1, 1914 - December 26, 2014)

Funeral services for Bertha R. Beert, 100, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Wednesday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline, IL. Entombment will be in St. Mary Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00PM Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30PM. Mrs. Beert died Friday, December 26, 2014 at The Masonic Home, Bettendorf, IA. Bertha Wulffaert was born January 1, 1914, in Sas Van Ghent, Holland, the daughter of Alfred and Johanna DeRidder Wulffaert. She married Albert “Brick” Beert October 3, 1936, in Davenport, IA. He died February 28, 1997. She had been a loving homemaker. She was a member of the former St. Mary's East Moline for 67 years, where she had been active with the Alter Society. Survivors include grandchildren, Nanett (Darryl) Webb, Port Byron, IL, Jodie (Kenny) Musselman, Toulon, IL, Melissa (Matthew) Bodman, Gambrills, MD, Rhonda (Russ) Courter, Brimfield, IL, Jamie Beert (Joe Minskowski), Hooper, UT, Amy Beert (Dan Glass), Fort Wayne, IN, Brian (Heidi) Beert, Geneseo, IL, and Jason Beert, Rapids City, SD; 17 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Jorja Beert, Coal Valley.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons, Ronald, Jerry, and Jim Beert. Memorials may be made for masses. The family would like to thank Nan for her exceptional care of her special grandma

Quinn A. Hess
(May 10, 1938 - December 25, 2014)

Quinn A. Hess, 76, of East Moline, IL, formerly of Rock Island, IL, went to be with the Lord on Christmas Day, after a prolonged illness. Funeral services will be 10:00AM Monday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in Roselawn cemetery, Moline, IL. Visitation will be 2:00-5:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Quinn was born May 10, 1938, in Moline, IL, the son of Glenn and Gwen Kissell Hess. He married Pat Wiederkehr September 25, 1954, in Davenport, IA. He had worked for the former Buddy L. Corp, East Moline, and retired from J.I. Case, Bettendorf, IA. After retirement he and his wife traveled selling antiques, as Pat's Antiques. Quinn loved the Bible, reading from it every day. He had been a history buff, who specialized in the U.S. Civil War. He was fascinated with antiques, and enjoyed doing restorations. He was a member of Foursquare Church, East Moline where he served on the Church Council and was a Deacon. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Pat Hess, East Moline; daughter, Patti (James) Carlson, Ottawa, IL; grandchildren, Eric (Jill) Stalf, Lanson (Stephanie) Stalf, and Emily (Lawernce) Taylor; great grandchildren, Carrington, Autumn, Ellen, Jude, Kaiden, and Connor; sister, Nancy Jackson, Blossom, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents and son, Michael. Memorials may be made to the family.

Curtis Peters
(June 18, 1979 - December 27, 2014)

Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Peters died Saturday, December27, 2014, at his home. Curtis was born June 18, 1979, in Silvis, IL, the son of Ronald and Doris Hantz Peters Sr. He owned 2 Extreme Construction Company. He had been a loving son, brother, father, and grandfather. Survivors include his children, Anastasia Peters, Alexus Peters, and Chavis Peters all of East Moline; grandson, Isaiah Peters, East Moline; parents, Ron and Doris Peters Sr., East Moline; sister, Heather (Youssef) Elammari, Ottumwa, IA; brothers, Ronald ( Linda) Peters Jr., Davenport, IA, and Daniel Peters, East Moline; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and nephews. Dolores Kloppenborg
(June 25, 1928 - December 28, 2014)

Funeral services for Dolores J. Kloppenborg, 86, of East Moline, IL, will be noon Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis, IL. Burial will be in Rock Island National cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00PM Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30. Mrs. Kloppenborg died Sunday, December 28, 2014, at Aspen Rehab & Health Care, Silvis. Dolores Berndt was born June 25, 1928, in Rock Island, IL, the daughter of Oscar and Rose Plogh Berndt. She married Theodore “Ted” Kloppenborg May 1, 1948, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island. He died September 25, 2012. Dolores had been an organist since she was 16 years old. Starting out at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island, St Mary, Rock Island, and lastly at St. Mary Catholic Church, East Moline, for nearly 50 years. She had been known to keep treats in her organ bench and after services the children would come to her for a piece of candy. She had been a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who doted on her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards especially when she was winning! Survivors include her daughter, Julie (Terry) Olson, Sherrard, IL; sons, Ted (Vicky) Kloppenborg, Sherrard, and J. Tim (Jackie) Kloppenborg East Moline; grandchildren, Danielle (John) Eckl, Andy Olson, Tony and Tracey Kloppenborg. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son, Charles; and son, Rev. Thomas Kloppenborg. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

James Kelly
(October 23, 1941 - December 20, 2014)

James (Jim) Charles Kelly, 73, Soddy Daisy, TN, passed away on Saturday, 20 December 2014. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 12:00 PM at St Anne’s Catholic Church in East Moline. Entombment will be in St. Marys Mausoleum, East Moline, near his parents and brother Michael. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Jim was born 23 October 1941, in Moline, IL, the son of Arthur and Judy (Rymkiewicz) Kelly.

He was truly a great doctor, healer, humanitarian, husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and great-uncle.

Mostly though, he was our best friend.

Those left to mourn his passing include his wife Sandra, children/step-children, James, Brendan, Rob, Wendy and Hoyle. sisters Jane and Joyce, brother Jack, 4 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

"Archangel Michael, It’s Jim. Open the Door and let him in! Mom, Dad and Michael, come greet him and welcome him because we love and already miss him greatly."

Lawrence D. Cortez
(June 17, 1956 - December 28, 2014)

Funeral services for Lawrence “Larry” D. Cortez, 58, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Saturday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis, IL. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, East Moline. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00PM Friday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 PM. Mr. Cortez died Sunday, December 28, 2014, at University Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, IA. Larry was born June 17, 1956, in Moline, IL, the son of Bernard and Lupe Vasquez Cortez. He was a graduate of United Township High School class of 1974. He retired in 2009 from John Deere Harvester, East Moline after nearly 30 years of service. He loved all sports, especially playing softball. He enjoyed horse racing. He loved traveling and music, especially listening to his uncles' and cousins' band, the Cortez Brothers. Survivors include his wife, Bertha Cortez, of East Moline daughters, Cristy (John) Hanson, East Moline, Corrina Allender, East Moline, Jessie Knoles, Belle Plaine, IA, and Julie (Curtis) Whitten, East Moline; grandchildren, Aleah Knoles, Hayley and Desiree Whitten, and Lillian Holmes; sister, Diane (Dale) Duckworth, Davenport, IA; brothers, Dave (Carolyn) Cortez, East Moline, Marcus (Laura) Cortez, Rock Island, IL, and Mario Cortez, Albuquerque, NM; sister-in-law, Irma (Beto) Martinez, East Moline; brothers-in-law, Bob (Wendy) Escontrias, Hampton, IL, Juan (Gina) Escontrias, Eddie (Margie) Escontrias, Hampton, and Carlos Escontrias, East Moline; special “grandchildren”, Ryan Sodeman and Meagan Sanders; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bernice A. Maberry
(March 12, 1946 - January 1, 2015)

Bernice A. Maberry, 68, Silvis, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. Funeral services are 10 AM Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Private family committal will be at a later date. Visitation is 3-7 PM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 2:30PM. In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family requests that people spend the day with the elderly. Caring for others was Bernice's passion.

She was born on March 12, 1946 in Linton, ND, the eldest child of Albert and Bernadine (Vetch) Brendel. She married John Maberry on December 19, 1964 in Rapids City, SD. Bernice had done home cleaning for families and volunteered for the American Cancer Society. Mrs. Maberry was an avid bowler in the ABC. If anyone left the family house hungry, it was their own fault.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, John, children, Leah Maberry of Silvis and Andy (Miranda) Maberry, East Moline, grandchildren; Danielle (Donnie) Pridemore, Ashlyn Stoedter, Andrew Stoedter, Brianna Walz-Nevarez, Cassandra Nevarez and Eve Nevarez, great grandchildren, Logan Pridemore and baby Tycen on the way, siblings, Linda (Dennis) Wenninger, Hampton, Marlene (Brian) Dittmer, Osborne, IL, Susan (Larry) Marquart, Clementine (Myron) Basaraba, Sherry Buchholtz, David (Kathy) Brendel, Arnold (Fran) Brendel, Donald Brendel, Terry (Ladonna) Brendel, Gary (Chris) Brendel, Larry (Edie) Brendel, Randy Brendel and Pam (Dave) Cherich, numerous nieces and nephews and special friends, Debbie, Judy, Bonnie and Cindy.

Kimberly Scott Richards
(June 11, 1953 - December 31, 2014)

Kimberly Scott Richards, 61, Moline, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at his home. Funeral services are 10 AM Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 2-5 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Kim was born on June 11, 1953 in Fairbanks, Alaska, the son of Arthur and Jerri (Scott) Richards. He retired from the shipping department of Kone, Moline. Kim was an excellent musician, playing in several area bands throughout his lifetime. Kim was a student of the sports world and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.

Survivors include his daughter Melissa Richards, Nampa, ID, step children, Chris Green and Mandy Kalac, both of Idaho, grandson, Brandon Ingram, parents, Art and Jerri Richards, East Moline, brother Brad (Sherry) Richards, Rapids City, IL and nephew Tyler (Courtney) Richards, Moline.

Martin "Dubby" Dubuisson
(November 14, 1956 - December 31, 2014)

Martin “Dubby” Dubuisson, 58, formerly of East Moline, sadly left his family and friends on December 31, 2014 while recuperating from a short illness at the home of his niece Christina (Raul) Rubio, Rock Island. A celebration of his life will be from 1PM until 3PM Sunday, January 4, 2014 at Van Hoe Funeral Home ltd., East Moline. The celebration will continue at the Torchlight 1800 18th Avenue, East Moline from 3PM until 6PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

Marty was born November 14, 1956 in Moline, the son of Emil and Bertha (DeDoncker) Dubuisson, growing up in East Moline, before moving to Joliet. Marty married Connie and they had two daughters, Carlee and Natalie, both of Las Vegas, before divorcing.

Marty graduated from UTHS class of 1974. He played basketball for UT and his team was later named to the UTHS Hall of Fame. He also played baseball in High School and was on the Quad Cities 76ers team. Sports had always been on his list of priorities, as shown by his driving from Joliet to Pleasant Valley to attend all of his grandson Louis' football games. He earned his Masters Degree in Business from Lewis University in Romeoville. IL. Marty was employed as Office Manager for a Bloomington, IL Dental Clinic.

In addition to his daughters and grandson Louis, he is survived by 2 other grandsons, Matthew and Kamyon, brother, Michael (Cathy) Dubuisson, Des Moines, sisters, Theresa Dubuisson (Wayne Rassmussen) Columbia, MO, Berta (Jim) Garcia, Claire (Oral) Gordon, both of Rock Island.

Marty was preceded in death by his parents, brother Patrick and sisters, Mary and Janet.

Eugene "Gene" Rowe Jr.
(August 10, 1961 - December 30, 2014)

Eugene “Gene” Rowe Jr., 53, of Coal Valley, IL, died Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at his home. Private graveside services will be held at Rock Island National cemetery.

Gene was born September 10, 1961, in Terre Haute, IN, the son of Eugene and Margaret Lambert Rowe Sr. . He served in the U.S. Navy. He married Deborah “Deb” McLuaghlin September 13, 2007, in Moline, IL. He was currently working as a computer technician for IBM. Gene couldn’t wait for “football Sundays” and watch the Indianapolis Colts.

Survivors include his wife, Deb Rowe, Coal Valley; his mother, Margaret Deckard, Terre Haute; brothers, Jeff Rowe, Terre Haute, Kevin Rowe, Indianapolis, IN, and Brian (Amy) Rowe, Apopka, FL; “adopted daughter” (caretaker) Kaylyn Powers.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents and father. Memorials may be made to the family.
