Helen was born December 6, 1911 in Wisconsin, the daughter of Lawrence and Maude Patterson.
She married Burton M. Wells.
He preceded her in death.

Marjorie L. Johnson, 82, of Rock Island died August 8, 2007 at her home with her family at her side. Funeral services will be 12p.m. Saturday, August 11, 2007 with a visitation one hour prior to service time at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Trinity Pathway Hospice or Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan. Marjorie was born May 17, 1925 in Centerville, IA to Wilbur and Goldie (Stevens) McGuire. She married Leroy “Jack” Johnson on May 2, 1943 in Kahoka, MO. He preceded her in death on August 30, 2004.
Marjorie is survived by Children: Judy (Gareld) Danielson, Rock Island; Michael (Linda) Johnson, Moline; Phillip (Phoebe) Johnson, Monmouth; Janet (John) Bell, Moline.

Joseph F. Kipp, age 81, of East Moline, IL. passed away at University Hospital, Iowa City on Friday, August 10, 2007. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Joe was born August 19, 1925 in Hampton, IL., the son of Harry and Mary Etta Lear Kipp of Hampton. He attended Grade School in Hampton and graduated from United Township High School, East Moline in 1943. He married Bonnie Ferry of Moline on September 3, 1949. Joe is a World War II Marine Veteran and was employed at John Deere Harvester Wks. East Moline for 42 years in the maintenance department, retiring in 1985. He belonged to Local 865, East Moline American Legion Post #227, The Moline Vikings Thor Lodge, was a Boy Scout Leader for twenty years, served a term on the United Township High School Board, Past president of Bowlesburg Dads Club and he played on several Softball Teams in the 1940’s to 1960’s, and was an All American Softball Player in 1954. He also was a past President and Vice President of The Quad Cities St. Louis Cardinal Fan Club.
Joe is survived by his wife, Bonnie, three sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Christine Kipp of East Moline, Sam and Geneie Kipp of Bettendorf, and Dan and Michelle Kipp of Colona. Five Grandchildren, Clayton and wife Megan Kipp, Wesley and wife Lindsay Kipp, Garrett and wife Regina Kipp, Alyson Kipp, and Brittany Kipp. Two Step Grandchildren, Monica Hoff and Kyle Sawyer. Two sisters, Minnie Sample East Moline, Mary Jane Bernards, Waunakee, WI. One brother Albert Kipp and wife Carol, and a sister-in-law Margie Kipp both of Hampton, IL. Extended family - two brothers-in-law, Bill and wife Virginia Ferry and Bob and wife Patricia Ferry. Several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and two sisters.

Earl Rusk, 64, of Geneseo, died August 28, 2007 after a long and courageous battle with cancer at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, August 30, 2007 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. A private family service will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to Make A Wish Foundation. Earl was born July 2, 1943 in Galt, MO to Gale and Mae Foster Rusk. He married Sandra Ware on July 13, 1963 at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Earl repaired heavy machinery for 30 years for CASE IH retiring in 1993. Earl was a former member UAW #1304, and was a partner in Olde Time Builders. He enjoyed fishing in Canada, hunting and bowling. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and following their activities. He is survived by

David Newell Thorp, 65, of Sherrard, died August 27, 2007 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 31st at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Orion with the Rev. Ed Kuriscak officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home Burial will be in Sherrard cemetery. Memorials may be made to his family for a fund to be established. David was born January 18, 1942 in Wichita, KS the son of Charles “Ray” and Ermarie Owens Thorp. He was raised by his mother and step-father, Howard Croft. He married Glenda Sue Boles on February 11, 1962 in Kansas City, MO. She preceded him in death on October 27, 1999. David was employed as a branch manager at Ford Motor Credit for over 30 years. He served in the Army Reserves where he was recognized as a sharp-shooter at Fort Leonardwood and Fort Riley from 1964-1970. He was a member of the American World War II Orphans Network. He loved living in St. Augustine for six months of the year. Survivors include two sons Ryan Thorp, Sr. of Kansas City, MO and Gary Lee Thorp of Jasper, FL and two daughters Shawn Marie (Bill) Wyant of Sherrard and Kristin Rea (Matt) Sandman of Milan; seven grandchildren – Amanda Rae Sue Wyant, William R.D. Wyant, Rachael Ann Marie Wyant, Laurie Annett Berry, Ryan Newell Thorp, Jr, Andrew Michael Thorp and Trever Sandman and a great-granddaughter due in December – Baby Girl Wyant; sister Susan Croft of Anguilla, West Indies; 2 brothers John Croft of Lenexa, KS and Mike (Rhonda) Croft of Olathe, KS; brother-in-law Henry (Bev) Boles of Janesville, WI and sisters-in-law Betty (Jerry)Reasor of Cabot, AK and Thelma Purdom of Kansas City, MO and his dog KOTA He was preceded in death by his mother, his father who was a MIA in Burma during World War II, his step-father, wife and brother-in-law, Bob Purdom.

Memorials may be made to his family for a fund to be established. Richard was born on March 21, 1941 in Moline the son of George Colby and Phoebe Strachan VanDam. He married Beverly Short in Moline and later married Janet Ehlers in Rapid City, IL Richard worked as a repair person for John Deere retiring in February 1993. He was a member of UAW Local 434 in East Moline. Survivors include his wife Janet, children Caroline Branham (Dennis) of Moline, Ralph VanDam (Stacy) of Moline, Denise Heimann (Thomas) of Biloxi, MS and Catherine VanDam of Cottage Grove, MN; Kristen Guzman, Angie (Marc) Hernandez and Scott (Mary) Ehlers; grandchildren Alex Branham, Amanda Baldwin (David), Jacob, Lauren and Victor VanDam and Stephanie, Heather and Shaun Heimann, Adrienne, Erin and Andrew Waeyaert, Elizabeth, Emily, Scott and Rebecca Ehlers and Nicholaus and Robert Hernandez and great-grandchildren Rachel Rae and Zachary Baldwin and Ivan Weathers, Aniah Waeyaert and Avery Carter; brother Jerry VanDam (Pat) of Garden Grove, CA and his sister Georgetta Waters (Roger) of Round Rock, TX. Burial is in Rose-Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline. Loretta was born January 12, 1938 in Moline, the daughter of Claude and Mildred (Duncan) Buckley. She married Roy William Southern on December 15, 1973 in Rock Island. Loretta was employed at the Don E. Williams Co. and the Hastey Tastey Food Shop. She loved to crochet and play bingo. Loretta was a loving wife and mother.

Leonard R. Dierolf, age 87, of Orion, died Friday, August 24, 2007 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 27, 2007 at First Lutheran Church, Sherrard. Visitation is from 3:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd. Orion. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, Sherrard Building Fund. Leonard was born July 2, 1920 in Rock Island, the son of Louis and Eva (Luckenbiehl) Dierolf. He married Bette Stanton on September 12, 1941 in Stanton, MO. She preceded him in death on April 21, 1982. Leonard farmed from 1938 until 2005. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Sherrard, Mercer Co. Farm Bureau; Midwest Quarter Horse Club; AQHA. Leonard was an avid bowler, and was a member of the original Orion Bowling League. He also bowled in Rock Island and Viola.

William Kurkowski, 85, of Geneseo, died Thursday, August 23, 2007 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis. Per William’s wishes, there will be no services. Cremation rites have been accorded. William was born December 19, 1921 in Grenville, South Dakota, the son of John and Lucy Lesnar Kurkowski. He married Jean Zinis on June 11, 1949 in Chicago. He was a machinist at International Harvester for 33 years, retiring in 1980. In his younger years he farmed in Grenville, SD. He was also a PFC Army Veteran serving in WWII.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John & Lucy and a brother Stanley.
