Vera E. Bratton, 80, formerly of Moline, died Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2007 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to her family. Vera was born October 5, 1926 in Kilbourne, Iowa, the daughter of Vere and Annie Yeager Towne. She married Walter J. Bratton, Jr. on March 30, 1946 in Davenport. He preceded her in death on October 27, 1995. Vera and her husband owned and operated Bratton Cabinet Shop in Moline.

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. August 24, 2007 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Orion, IL
Robert F. Schroeder, age 74, of Orion died August 21, 2007 at his home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 Friday, August 24th at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Orion. Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 on Thursday at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd. in Orion. Burial will be in Western Township cemetery, Orion. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established. Bob was born on July 14, 1933 in Colona, IL the son of Henry and Mary Jahn Schroeder. He married Dorothy Byers on March 7, 1953 in Swedona, IL. He later married Pam Cook on December 31, 1996 in Orion, IL Bob was a 1951 graduate of Coal Valley High School. He farmed all of his life and was also employed at Alcoa and as a postal carrier in Coal Valley. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Orion. He hand dug graves for 35 years at 11 different cemeteries. He served as Past President of the Orion Lions Club and was also a member of the Henry County Farm Bureau, the Western Township cemetery Board and the Osco and Western Insurance Company. He enjoyed tug of war where his team the “Grave Diggers” were undefeated and he was also an avid Cub and Illini fan. Survivors include his wife and companion for 35 years, Pam; a grandson Ryan Schroeder of Long Beach, CA; son and spouse Jeff and Lynne Schroeder of Coal Valley, daughters and their spouses Sherry and Burt Bolt of Port Byron, Lori and John Maguire of Allen, TX, Doreen and Scott Damge of Naperville and step-children Todd Cook of Orion, Michaelene and Mike Brown of Cambridge, Jamie and Amy Lawson of Orion; 10 grandchildren Alyssa, Christian, Jonathan, Katherine, Toni, Mary, Mattie, Rachel, Abby and Will, 4 step-grandchildren Austin, Nate, Ava and Will and 2 great-grandchildren; brothers Rev. Edward and Marie Schroeder of Missouri, Rev. Ted and Linda Schroeder of Missouri, Arthur and Judy Schroeder of Wisconsin, Donald and Grace Schroeder of Iowa and David and Anita Schroeder of Coal Valley; sister Mary Ann and Mike Michelson of California; brothers and sisters-in-law Larry and Kathy Anderson, Jim and Pat Cooper and Butch and Rhonda Cook all of Orion, Bill and Hilde Charlson of Spanaway, WA and Jack and Kathy Charlson of Wataga, IL and his mother-in-law Audrey Cook of Orion.

Beatrice L. “Bea” Swanson, age 95, formerly of Moline, died Saturday, August 18, 2007 at Silver Cross Pavilion/Friendship Manor, Rock Island. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation is from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial is in Rose-Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline. Memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church, Moline or the American Heart Association. Bea was born June 6, 1912 in Moline, the daughter of Axel F. and Anna O. (Lindblom )Tolberg. She married Clarence L. Swanson on March 5, 1944. He preceded her in death on February 21, 1982. Bea was employed as a secretary in accounting for Iowa Rosenthal Company for 13 years, retiring in 1982, and earlier had worked at Deere & Company. She graduated from Moline High School and took accounting courses at Augustana College. Bea was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Moline. She was a 50 year member of Emelia Dahlgren Hospital Circle of the former Lutheran Hospital Auxiliary; secretary for the State of Illinois Auxillary to Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War; leader of Elizabeth Unit and member of Evergreens at Salem Lutheran Church. Bea volunteered for many years at the former Lutheran Hospital. She enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad with her husband. Bea and her husband were supportive of local organizations, especially Augustana College. She was an avid stamp collector and was the family historian. Bea is survived by cousins; Richard Blomberg Sr. Kingman, AZ; Richard Blomberg Jr. Mountain Home, AK; William Waterman, Geneseo, IL; Mary Lou Waterman Fuller, Moline, IL; Kimberly Blomberg, Moline, IL; & Karen Lamb, Albuquerque, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Donald Tolberg.

Memorials may be made to her children. Sherry was born December 4, 1963 in Rock Island, the daughter of Flay and Linda (Bratsch) Kyles. She married Jerry Means, and they later divorced. She will be sorely missed by her mother and children, her best friends.

Harvey Brockett, 80, of Rock Island, left this Earth for his eternal home on August 14, 2007 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday, August 17, 2007 at Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be in Memorial Park, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Trinity Pathway Hospice or Edgewood Baptist Church where he had been a member for over 50 years. Harvey was born September 6, 1926 in Campo, CO to Oliver and Zona Velma Brockett. He married Wathena Broyles on August 2, 1947 in Springfield, MO. Harvey was employed for 32 years at ALCOA retiring in 1989 as a crane operator. He was a member of the ALCOA retirees and a member of the ALCOA 25 year club. Harvey enjoyed gardening and canning, and spending time with his family.

Berniece M. Green, 80, of Moline died August 13, 2007 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis. Visitation will be Friday, August 17, 2007 from 9:30-10:30 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline followed by a graveside service at 11:30a.m. in National cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Anyone wishing to attend the graveside service needs to arrive at the funeral home by 10:45 a.m. Military honors will be conducted by Moline American Legion Post #246. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimers Association. Berniece was born July 19, 1927 in Keokuk, IA to Nicholas and Claire (Halferty) Wallerich. She married Ecklis C. Green in Pittsburg, CA on July 2, 1946. They later divorced. Berniece was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal for 26 years retiring in 1992. Berniece was a U.S. Army veteran. In her younger years, she enjoyed square dancing and playing bingo. She was also a member of PWP (Parents without Partners). She is survived by Children, Cecelia (Dwaine) Schriner, Milan Cleo Craig, Moline Carl (Emmy) Green, Providence, RI Roxie Green, Davenport Ronald (Debra) Green, East Moline Grandkids, Glenn (Kathy) Schriner, Cable, IL James (Christy) Schriner, Preemption, IL Stephanie Green, Providence, RI Great grandkids, Elizabeth Schriner Amber Yagoobian Jim Schriner Steven Yagoobian She was preceded in death by her son Jeffery Green and seven brothers and sisters.

Ellsworth Buller, age 89, of East Moline, died Saturday, August 11, 2007 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial is in Rose-Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline. Born August 21, 1917 to Harvey & Arabelle Buller in Moline, IL. He married Marjorie I. Anthony of Muscatine, IA March 15, 1942 in Canton, MO. He worked for several manufacturers in the Quad-Cities and in Mansfield, Ohio and Chicago, IL. doing industrial engineering and accounting and management. He was executive V.P. and General Manager for Buddy L. Toys for a number of years, combining that operation and a barbeque grill plant, which he purchased for the company, to a new plant in Neosho, MO. In 1971 he & his wife purchased a mobile home park in Princeton, IL., at which time he semi-retired. The park was sold in 1984 & he retired, moving back to the Quad-Cities. He held a pilots license he acquired in 1941. He enjoyed flying, camping with his family, hunting and playing golf. Surviving him are his two daughters & sons-in-law Pamela (Buller) & Frank Wolfgang of Wells, Maine, Linda (Buller) & Ronald Roman of Davenport, IA. and a son, Steven Buller & his wife Anne Walsh of New Canaan, CT; eight grandchildren, & 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers & three sisters.

She married Earl LeRoy Ewing on November 6, 1929 in Peoria. He preceded her in death on November 9, 1977. Gladys was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Moline. She was a member of the Clara Lodge and Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends. She is survived by

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 5, 2009 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. Warren was born on July 9, 1937 in Aledo, Illinois to C. Richard and Lois Sedam Dean. He married Joyce Taylor on May 17, 1957 in Rock Island. Warren was employed by the City of Moline as a driver for 30 years. He enjoyed rebuilding old cars and had rebuilt a 1950 Ford truck.

Linda was born June 1, 1945 to Gilbert and Alice (Coussens) Nelson. She married Gerald Race on May 16, 1970 in East Moline. Linda attended Faith Lutheran Church, Moline and was a member of the East End Club. She loved to play golf and spend time on the beach. Linda was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
