George F.Moon, age 76, of Moline, died Saturday, February 28, 2009 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Moline Church of Christ. Visitation is from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Burial is in Rose-Lawn Memorial Estate. Memorials may be made to Moline Church of Christ. George was born June 12, 1932 in New Hope, AL., the son of David Walker and Ruth (Jenkins) Moon. He married Pauline L. Bevel on June 28, 1952 in Iuka, MS. George attended school in New Hope, AL. He was employed at Frank Foundries for 25 years, retiring in June 1980 as a supervisor. George was a member of Moline Church of Christ. He enjoyed playing rook and horseshoes. George liked watching sports on TV, especially his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals. He especially loved playing with his grandchildren.

Norman C. Morris, 75, of East Moline, died February 27, 2009 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Visitation will be Sunday, March 1, 2009 from 3-7 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Private graveside services will be at National cemetery. Memorials may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Norman was born April 29, 1933 in Emma, GA to Leslie and Naomi (Autrey) Cantrell. He married Thelma Peterson on February 24, 1952 in East Moline. Norman worked for the Arsenal for 31 years and retired in 1983 as a supervisor of the Hydro-Electric Plant. Norman was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran. He was on the East Moline Park Board from 1995-2001. He organized and ran a concession during Ride the River with the proceeds going to the construction and improvements for Empire Park. He also volunteered to help with the maintenance of the parks. He was on the East Moline UTHS Swim Board for three years. In 1998 he received the Illinois Quad City Police Department Citizen Academy Certificate of Training and in 2001 he received East Moline Citizen of the Year Award. Norman donated blood for over 50 years through the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center. He enjoyed growing orchids and taking pride in his yard. He also enjoyed baking bread, cooking, and woodworking with his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Monday, February 23, 2009 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation is from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Frank was born November 21, 1942 in Ogden, Utah, the son of Gale Marion and Helen (Vanderpol) Britten. He married Debra Daniels on August 24, 1997. Frank was employed as a semi driver, last working in 2005.

Dorothy P. Wojcinski, 82, of Moline, passed away peacefully at Heartland Healthcare, Moline. Thursday, February 19, 2009 where she had been recently residing and previously at Amber Ridge, Moline. A celebration of her life will be held Monday, February 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Heritage Wesleyan Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. A memorial fund will be established in her name. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband at National cemetery in Rock Island. Friends and family are invited to a luncheon at Heritage Wesleyan Church at 1 p.m. Dorothy Brownson was born April 2, 1926 at Cook County Hospital, Chicago. She was the daughter of Wilma and John Brownson. She was untied in marriage to Richard Wojcinski on April 13, 1946 in Milwaukee, WI. He preceded her in death on July 22, 1997. She was a devoted wife, mother and she absolutely loved doting on her grandchildren.

Judith B. Smith, 83, of Moline, died February 19, 2009 at Friendship Manor, Rock Island. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009 with a visitation one hour prior to service time at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Judith was born November 6, 1925 in Moline to Carl J. and Bessie (Nelson) Johnson. She married Earl L. Smith on October 8, 1949 in Moline. He preceded her in death on Sept. 27, 2004. She retired after 46 years from the Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric and worked part time as a sales person for von Maur. Judith graduated from Moline High School in 1944. She was a member of First Evangelical Free Church, Moline. She enjoyed playing and watching golf and was a life member of Oakwood Country Club. She also enjoyed knitting, working in the yard, vacationing in Florida, going out to dinner and attending family gatherings. She also had volunteered at the former Lutheran Hospital in the gift shop for many years.

She is survived by:

Mary L. DeKeyrel, 89, of Coal Valley formerly of Milan, died February 16, 2009 at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley. Rite of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 20, 2009 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave. Moline. Burial will be in Rural Township cemetery. Memorials may be made to Oak Glen Home or St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Mary was born March 31, 1919 in Illinois City, IL to Camiel and Julia (DeCap) DeKeyrel. She was a bus driver for Alleman High School. Later she was the head cook for Alleman High School and Sherrard High School. She also helped her brother on his farm. Mary was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan where she was the bookkeeper for the Altar and Rosary Society at the church. She enjoyed flowers, gardening and taking walks outdoors. She also enjoyed making crafts including corn husk dolls and grapevine wreaths. She was on the WLS Barn Dance in Chicago. To her family and close friends she was known as Aunt ‘Mimi”.

Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to RICCA and Friends of the Children (of Haiti). Martha was born March 3, 1928 in Moline to James C. and Grace M. (Murphy) McCartney. She married Eugene A. Jackson on December 11, 1948 in Moline. He preceded her in death on March 29, 1986. Martha worked for John Deere Mallable as a payroll clerk. She then worked as a supervisor in the typing pool at Rock Island Arsenal. She retired in 1959. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Moline and briefly a resident at Rosewood Care Center, Moline.
