Jeanne A. Hawry, age 80 of Rock Island, died Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at: Northwestern University, Alice S. Millar Chapel, 1870 Sheridan Rd, Evanston, IL, 60201. A reception will follow the service. Memorials may be made to A.L.S. Association, Development Department, 27001 Agoura Rd. Suite 250, Calabasas Hills, CA, 91301-5104. www.alsa.org Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. Moline is assisting the family. Jeanne was born January 22, 1928 in Elgin, IL, the daughter of Raymond and Grace Ann (Wilson) Watson. She married Henry Joseph Hawry on October 7, 1948 in Chicago. He preceded her in death on October 23, 2001. Jeanne was employed as a registered nurse for 48 years, retiring in 1996. She had been a resident of Friendship Manor in Rock Island. Jeanne enjoyed traveling, and had a wide range of interests and tastes. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. January 13, 2009 at at the funeral home
Lelbert Lee “Junior” Thornburg, Jr. 83, of Moline, died January 8, 2009 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in National cemetery, Rock Island. Junior was born on April 30, 1925 in Green Shed., TN, the son of Lelbert and Zora White Thornburg. He married Joan Hensley on October 7, 1950 in Jonesborough, TN. Junior worked as a foreman for 22 years at K.I. Willis retiring in 1990. He was a WWII veteran serving in the United States Coast Guard. Junior was an Associate Pastor at Word of Faith Tabernacle, Davenport. He enjoyed Blue Grass and Gospel music. He also enjoyed playing the Banjo and loved being with his family and friends.

Mary Paxton, 82, of Silvis, died January 7, 2009 at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley. Funeral services will be 12 p.m Monday, January 12, 2009 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave. Moline. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the family. Mary was born December 9, 1926 in Winterset, IA to Lloyd and Ruth (Clayton) Snyder. She married Roy Paxton on March 18, 1944 in Winterset, IA. He preceded her in death in January of 1979. Mary was employed at Illini Hospital for 11 years working in housekeeping. She later worked at Burger King, Davenport and the Walmart on Elmore. Mary enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting and cake decorating. She loved playing cards and bingo. She also loved spending time with her family. Everything she did was for the children and she was known by everyone as Grandma.

Vincent “Vince” Edward Malmstrom, 46, of Milan, died January 6, 2009 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 12, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation will Sunday from 2-6 p.m. with a rosary recited at 2 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be in Sacred Heart cemetery, Annawan, IL. Memorials may be made to his family for a fund to be established. Vince was born September 17, 1962 in Kewanee, IL to Lawrence Daniel and Willa Mae (Stark) Malmstrom. He was currently employed at Royal Neighbors of America for 26 years. Vince was very involved with Jay Cees where he was past president, district president and past regional director, and an adjunct son to the Sons of the Legion attached to the Moline American Legion Post #246. After his implant he began speaking to groups about organ donations and organ transplants. When he wasn’t involved with his memberships and speaking engagements he loved the outdoors, especially camping and woodworking. He is survived by Children, Casey Jo Skyler Brothers, Michael (Sheila) Malmstrom Andy Malmstrom Arnold Malmstrom Sister, Loretta Malmstrom He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Patrick.

Lila Maxine Hart

Lila Maxine Hart passed away at Genesis Medical Center- Illini Campus. Per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and the cremains will later be interred at Taylor cemetery, Unionville, Iowa. In lieu of flowers and visitation, please donate to Milan and Moline Animal Shelters. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. is assisting the family. She was born in Davis Co, Iowa, the only child to parents Lewis and Cecile Lippert Hopkins. She was educated in Iowa schools and a graduate of Springfield College of Commerce, Springfield, Missouri. She married Robert Hart on September 26, 1959 in Rock Island and they had one daughter Terri Ann. She was a former secretary clerk typist for the foreign and business department at John Deere Continental, Ltd. for 21 years, retiring in 1984. Through the years she worked with local animal shelters in saving and locating homes for stray cats and dogs. She was a member of and former Sunday school teacher at First Christian Church, Moline.

Survivors:
Husband: Robert Hart, Coal Valley

Daughter: Terri Ann Hart, Moline

Many loving and caring sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Many nieces and nephews will also miss Maxine. Her special little friends at home Abbie the Yorkshire and Maggie the Manchester, Callie the Calico cat; they will miss her greatly. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents.

Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. is assisting the family. Burial will be at a later date. Lylas was born May 7, 1912 in Henry County, IL to Arthur and Lillian Betcher. She married Kenneth F. Ohrberg on July 14, 1929 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on October 30, 1976. Lylas enjoyed quilting and loved the Cubs.

Robert Lee Ferry, Sr., age 79, of East Moline, died Saturday, January 31, 2009 at his home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 5, 2009 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday with a Masonic Service at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Blackhawk Shrine for Crippled Children. Robert was born January 31, 1930 in Moline, the son of William and Irene (Miller) Ferry. He married Patricia Swanson on October 21, 1950 at Watertown Baptist Church. Robert was employed as a pipe fitter for the Rock Island Lines for 14 ˝ years, and then for International Harvester for 25 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Silvis Masonic Lodge #898 for over 47 years, Blackhawk Shrine of the Mohassan Grotto, Mohammed Shrine Temple of Peoria, Scottish Rite Valley of Moline, a 32nd degree Mason, member of the Moline Vikings, East End Club and the Croatian Crest Club.

Frederick “Fred” William Briesch, 92, of Moline, died February 1, 2009 at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley. Per the family wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009 from 5-7 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established. Fred was born November 10, 1916 in Burlington, IA to Frederick and Margaret (Cudahy) Briesch. He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1936 and proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps Flying Knights – 9th Fighter Squadron – 49th Fighter Group in WWII. He married Rose Kelley in 1947. She preceded him in death on August 5, 1965. Fred was a heating plant engineer working for J I Case in Rock Island for 38 years. He was a member of the Rock Island Masonic Lodge No. 658, Moline American Legion Post # 246 and the Moline VFW Post # 2153. During his lifetime, some of his hobbies were fishing, bowling, woodworking, stained glass, country music, reading, gardening, cooking his favorite recipes and eating at a variety of local establishments. He loved to talk to people and never met a stranger. Fred was witty, loved to tease and be teased. He was highly respected and liked by all that knew him. He will be missed by a wide circle of friends, neighbors and relatives.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Davies and the staffs of the Light House and Oak Glen Nursing Home for their loving professional care provided to Dad.
