Eugene “Gene” McGinnis, 90, of Rock Island, died February 2, 2009 at St. Anthony’s Continuing Care Center, Rock Island. Graveside services will be Friday, February 6, 2009 at 10:00 am. at National cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Those who wish to attend the graveside service need to be at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. Moline by 9:15 a.m. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 1303. Memorials may be made to VFW Post #1303 or to the family. Gene was born May 7, 1918 in Buffalo Prairie Twp., IL to Oakley and Bertha (Reynolds) McGinnis and was raised in Illinois City. Gene was a WWII U.S. Army veteran and worked various jobs in the Quad Cities. He loved dancing, calling Bingo and other activities at CASI. Later in life he enjoyed seeing the grandchildren of Marlin Krueger. Gene deeply missed his special friend, Vera Roby, who passed away in 2008. They had spent their last couple of years at the Fort Armstrong Senior Residence, but had been together over twenty years.

He was preceded in death by special friend, Mary Vera Roby and his four brothers and five sisters.

Warren (Buck) Hanna, 77, of Moline, Illinois passed on Monday, February 2, 2009 at his home with his family. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. at Heritage Wesleyan Church, 4801 44th Street, Rock Island, Illinois, on Wednesday, February 4, 2009. Family will greet friends one hour before services. Memorials may be made to Heritage Wesleyan Church. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. is assisting the family with arrangements. He worked at John Deere Harvester for more than 30 years, retiring from the Repair Department in 1993. He then worked for the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Department as a Bailiff at the Rock Island County Courthouse until 2007. He was known for entertaining with his harmonica and his sense of humor. He was regularly a victim and sometimes a perpetrator of practical jokes. Buck was born to Frank and Marvel Hanna, on March 7, 1931 at Moline Public Hospital. He married
Mary L. Lockett on January 24, 1953 and they were blessed with 7 children: Linda (Chris), Little Rock; Ron (Nanci), Palos Hills; Cheryl (Charlie), Moline; Steve (Karen), Rock Island; Frank (Kim) Dallas; Teresa (Dino), Erie; and Diane, Moline. He was very proud of all his children and loved spending time with his 12 grandchildren and his 11 great grandchildren. He is dearly missed by all.

She married
Edward Lincoln Kjellstrand on December 8, 1934. He preceded her in death on July 31, 1988. Vera was employed at Modern Woodman, Augustana College and Bituminus.

Sherrill Moses on July 5, 1983 in Reno, NV. Thomas was currently employed as an insurance salesman for Mel Foster Insurance, Inc. for 22 years. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his grandchildren.

Donald Leon Howarth, 54 of Moline died August 10, 2004 after a brief battle with cancer at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf, IA. Rite of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, August 13, 2004 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 p.m. with a wake service at 4 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Entombment will be at St. Mary’s cemetery with military rites conducted by East Moline VFW Post # 8890. Memorials may be made to his family for a fund to be established. Donald was born May 24, 1950 in Moline to Howard and Anna Magruder. He was later adopted and raised by George and Margaret Howarth. He married
Monica “Mo” Navarro on November 15, 1971 in Moline. Donald worked for 10 years at Eagles as a clerk. He was an usher at the Mark of the Quad Cities and was the caregiver for Edith Wallert. Donald was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Moline where he was a volunteer for the food pantry. He was a Navy veteran serving in Vietnam from 1968-1970. He was a member of the East Moline VFW 8890 where he was in the color guard. He was a befriender at Trinity West and volunteered for four years at Heartland Healthcare Center, Moline. He was involved in the Willard’s Dad’s Club and was a baseball coach for the Willard grade school. He was the former president of the Studebacker Club.

Edward Meinholtz on September 1, 1962 who predeceased her on September 1, 1971.
Surviving are her son Lane Trefftzs and his wife Carolyn, grandchildren Pamela Trefftzs and Jeff Trefftzs, great grandchildren Aaron and Mathew Comer and Niven Trefftzs, and a sister Mildred Burrell.

Ignacio was born on May 2, 1980 in Silvis, IL. the son of Ignacio R. and Audrey Prado Sr. Ignacio was employed at Miller Container in Rock Island as a fork lift driver. He was a Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He loved working on his computer and listening to music. His Trans Am was his pride and joy. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

Jack R. Pierson, 71, of Sherrard, died Friday, August 6, 2004 at Genesis West Medical Center, Davenport. Graveside Services will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2004 at the Sherrard cemetery. Jack was born April 14, 1933 in Cambridge, Ohio, the son of Edgar Axel and Dorothy Britton Pierson. He married
Cassie Hubbard in November of 1955 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She preceded him in death in October of 1983. He later married
Treva (Johnson) Schroeder on August 4, 1984 in Sherrard. Jack was employed at John Deere Plow Planter as a welder, then he was employed at the Montgomery Elevator also a welder. He later worked at Case IH as a foreman. He returned to Montgomery Elevator then later to John Deere Plow Planter as a welder. Later, he was employed by Sherrard Unit #200 School District working in maintenance. He later was a grounds keeper at Rock Island Memorial Park retiring in April of 1998., Jack was a Army veteran serving from 1953-1955. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Sherrard and volunteered on the Sherrard Fire Department for 20 years. He was a former Sherrard Village Town board member. He was a member of the Moline UAW Local. He enjoyed camping and traveling.

Cleora Miller on December 24, 1945 in Orion, IL. Floy was a self-employed carpenter contractor for 36 years retiring in 1998. Floy was a member of First Baptist Church, Orion., where he was deacon, a trustee, Sunday school teacher and moderator. He was a WWII Army veteran. He was a member of the Orion American Legion Post #255 where he served as a past post commander, sergeant at arms, a service officer, vice commander and was a member of the honor guard. He was a member of the Orion Senior Citizen Meal Site. He was active in the McCuffy Readers with the Western District Library.
