Shirley D. Dalton, 69, of Moline, died Wednesday July 14, 2004 at Silver Cross Nursing Home, Rock Island. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2004 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-7 p.m., at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd., 6601-38th Ave., Moline, with a rosary recited at 4 p.m. Burial will be at National cemetery, Rock Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Shirley was born February 28, 1935 in Baltimore, Maryland the daughter of Morris and Marie Kurlik Weiss. She married Thomas Dalton on September 30, 1993. He preceded her in death. Shirley attended the Moline schools. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. Shirley also did volunteer work with the Q.C. AIDS Project. Shirley enjoyed working with hospice and she loved the Chicago Cubs.

Funeral Service: 1:00 P.M. July 19, 2004 at at the funeral home.
Barbara Clayton, 69, of Rock Island, and a long time resident of the Illinois Quad City area, died Wednesday, July 14, 2004 in Rock Island, after a long battle with ovarian cancer. Funeral Services will be1:00 Monday, July 19, 2004 at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd., 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be from 2-5 Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rock Island Memorial Park. Barbara was born August 14, 1934 in Long Mount, CO, the daughter of Henry R. and Wanda Bihain Fries. She married Noverta (Randy) Clayton, Jr. on July 12, 1952 in Denver, CO. He preceded her in death in 1980. Barbara was a homemaker. She loved watching t.v. and her cat. But most of all she loved spending time with her family and going out to eat.

East Moline, IL

Leonard Kaalberg, age 80 of East Moline passed peacefully from this life into God’s loving hands on July 12, 2004. Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday July 17, 2004, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd., 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the Child Abuse Council, 525-16th St., Moline, IL, 61265. Leonard was born on July 28, 1923 Nichols, IA, the son of William and Johanna Giesen Kaalberg. He married Mabel Croxton on December 16, 1950 in Rock Island, IL. For 25 years Leonard worked as a repairman for John Deere, retiring in 1980. Leonard was a lifelong member of Christ the King Catholic Church, where he was part of the landscaping crew. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and a World War II Veteran, serving with the Eighth Armored Division. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeye fan, and he enjoyed volunteering at the John Deere Classic. He loved babysitting his grandkids, carpentry and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two children, sisters Alydia, Dorothy, and Margret, and brothers John and Joe.

Prophetstown, formerly of Swedona

James D. Foltz age 89 formerly of Swedona, died July 11, 2004 at Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Home in Prophetstown, IL. Funeral services are Thursday, July 15th at 2:00 p.m. at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Swedona Lutheran cemetery. Memorials may be made to Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Home where he resided. James was born on July 5, 1915 in Pennsylvania the son of Homer and Melinda Foltz. He married Jamesetta Mears in 1937 in Clymer, Pennsylvania. She preceded him in death on June 28, 1978. He later married Dorothy Mae Borst Carlson on September 22, 1979 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. She preceded him in death on August 6, 1990. James farmed in the Swedona area and was also an operating engineer for Local #537 in Rock Island retiring in 1977. He was a member of Beulah Presbyterian Church in Orion. He worked in Alaska during World War II as a Civil Army Engineer. He was an avid card player with the senior citizens. Survivors include his sons and their spouses James and Georgia Foltz of Prophetstown, IL and Irvin and Sharon Foltz of Rock Falls, IL; 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren; 3 step-children and their spouses Nancy and John Salter, John and Jackie Carlson and Roger and Mary Ellen Carlson; 6 step-grandchildren and 7 step great-grandchildren.

Alfred “Cork” Cervantes, 85, of Moline, died July 10, 2004 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island after a brief illness. The body was cremated and graveside services will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. The family will receive relatives and friends at Westwood Terrace, 2200-1st St. A, Moline, immediately following the service. Mr. Cervantes was born August 1, 1918 in Michigan, the son of Frank and Frances Sutton Cervantes. He married Betty Blomgren on September 23, 1955. She preceded him in death on July 22, 1973. He was employed by Flynn Beverage Company, Rock Island, retiring in 1982. He then worked as courier for the First Midwest Bank retiring at age 79. “Cork” enjoyed fishing, playing cards, reading, and traveling throughout the United States.
He is survived by daughters Barbara (Dean) Woodyard, East Moline, Anita and Annette Dietz, Phoenix, AZ, Linda (Larry) Ontiveros, Moline, Patricia Trevor, Naples, FL, Pamela (Joe) Stablein, Rock Island; a sister Opal Smith, Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Michael Fontenoy, Erie, Steven Woodyard, Davenport, Amy Ontiveros, Moline, Christopher Trevor, Moline, Michael Trevor, Arlington Heights, IL, Matthew and Jonathan James, Rock Island; a niece, Donna Kath, Phoenix, AZ; special friends Gloria Meyers, Moline, and Jim and Colleen Saunders, Milan. In Lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation, Alzheimer'’ Association, or a favorite charity. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, a son Robert, and a granddaughter, Wendy.

Rosalie A. Raymond Jensen, 69, of East Moline, Illinois, died Friday July 9, 2004 at Illini Hospital, Silvis. Celebration of Life services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday July 12 at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd., 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and also 1 hour prior to service time on Monday. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity. Rosalie was born September 11, 1934 in Moline to George and Gabriel (Houvenaghel) Raymond. She retired from Deere & Company after 25 years of service. She did volunteer work for two senior citizen groups, she served as President, Media Chair and Editor of United Township Seniors. In 2003 she was awarded Lifetime membership in the Gallery of Ageless Achievers for her volunteer contributions.

Rosalie is preceded in death by her two sons, Richard and Scott Jensen, and also her parents. Her family was her most loving and valuable asset. Additionally, she enjoyed her home, friends, online friends, computer, Bingo, and riverboat casinos.

Harold C. Johnson, age 95, of Moline died Thursday, July 8, 2004 at his residence. Private family services are planned. Burial will be at Riverside cemetery, Moline, IL. Memorials may be made to The Niabi Zoological Society or the Quad City Animal Welfare Center. Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. is assisting the family. Harold was born July 25, 1908 in Moline, IL the son of Carl Emil and Therese Ellen Blomquist Johnson. He married Lorette M. Nickell on February 21, 1935. Harold was a funeral director and former partner with the Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. in Moline. He started his career in 1929 as a funeral director and retired in 1973. Harold served as President of The Illinois Funeral Director’s Association in 1956. He was a member of the Moline Rotary Club and also the Moline Viking Club.

Elsie Mae Olson, age 87 of Bettendorf died Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at the Masonic Village, Bettendorf. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 12th at First Covenant Church in Moline. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd., 6601 – 38th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be at Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to her church, First Covenant Church in Moline. Elsie Mae was born June 8, 1917 in Moline, IL the daughter of Andrew and Rilla Norton Peterson. She married Chester Olson on March 3, 1944 in Moline. He preceded her in death on May 30, 2004. Elsie Mae was a member of First Covenant Church in Moline where she served as President of the Covenant Women’s Circles. She and her husband also served as youth leaders at the church, where Elsie Mae assisted as a secretary. She loved to write and wrote a monthly column for “The Masonic” for several years.
