Mary M. Youngdahl, 96 of Galesburg died April 25, 2004 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at Salem Lutheran Church, Moline. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-6 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline. Memorials may be made to the Mary Youngdahl Scholarship Fund at Salem Lutheran Church, Moline. Mary was born January 27, 1908 in rural Nebraska, the daughter of Hans and Johanna Jorgensen Caspersen. She married Earl E. Youngdahl on August 12, 1936, in Marquette, MI. He preceded her in death on February 23, 1964. Mary was schooled in Boelus, Nebraska and attended Dana College in Blair Nebraska. She graduated summa cum laude from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota in 1930. Mary taught school in Sisseton, SD before teaching in Moline at Ericson Elementary School, John Deere Junior High School and Moline High School where she was advisor to the Line ‘O Type. The Share Joys Christmas fundraiser was begun under her leadership. She retired in 1974. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Moline and a long-time volunteer at the former Lutheran Hospital. In later years, she enjoyed writing letters, knitting and working jigsaw puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and three sisters.

Fred T. Richardson, 63 of East Moline died April 23, 2004 at his home. Funeral services will be 11a.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post # 227, East Moline. Fred was born May 9, 1940 in East Moline to Fred W. and Lillian B. Chesser Richardson. He attended Moline High School. He married Joyce Patronagio on July 3, 1964 in Moline. Fred enlisted in the Naval Reserves in August of 1957 serving in Europe with the Eighth Infantry Division in Germany. He then joined the U.S. Army in 1958 serving with the First Infantry Division out of Fort Riley, KS. He was discharged on December 23, 1960. Fred started at John Deere Harvester on January 10, 1963 where he worked in the carpenters shop. He retired on May 1, 1993 after 30 years of service. Fred was a member of the UAW Local 865 where he enjoyed working with union members on many jobs. He enjoyed bass fishing and golfing.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a step daughter Sherri Lynn Stombaugh.

Lloyd Edward Johnson, 91 Ft. Myers, FL formerly of Moline died April 20, 2004 in Sarasota, FL Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline. Visitation will be Friday from 4-7 p.m. with Masonic services at 4:00 at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be at Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children or Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline. Lloyd was born September 16, 1912 in Moline to August and Gerda Louise Soderstrom Johnson. He married Evelyn Lewis.. She preceded him in death . He then married Gabriella DePoorter . She preceded him in death . He later married Ethel L. Mitchell Erwin. Lloyd was a general foreman for International Harvester in the Farmall Division, retiring in 1974. He spent his time in Florida in the winter, and the Quad Cities and Minnesota in the summer. Lloyd was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline. He was a 33rd degree Mason with the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Moline Lodge # 1014 AF & AM. He was a KAABA shriner and was a member of Moline F.O.E. Aerie # 1112. He was a very devoted and loving family man.

Donald E. Herring age 73 of Ophiem died April 18, 2004 in Kewanee at his daughters’ home. Private family services will be held at a later date. Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. is assisting the family. Donald was born on July 1, 1930 the son of Walter and Garnet Herring in Bushnell, IL. He married Norma Johnson on November 17, 1957 in Canton, IL. She preceded him in death on March 23, 2000. Donald was employed by John Deere retiring June 30, 1990. He was a veteran serving with the U.S. Army. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and traveling the country in his motor home. He will be remembered most as a loving father and grandfather.

Ernest L. Moon, age 74 of Silvis, died April 17, 2004 at Illini Hospital, Silvis. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 22nd at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd., 6601 – 38th Avenue, Moline with Rev. Becky Sherwood of the First Presbyterian Church of East Moline officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in National cemetery, Rock Island with military rites conducted by Moline American Legion Post #246. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association. Ernest was born on March 16, 1930 in Moline the son of Ernest Irwin and Ethel Winters Moon. He married LaZelle Goswick on July 7, 1957 in Rock Island. She preceded him in death on October 8, 1987. Ernest worked as a carpenter and in the machine shop at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1986. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Germany during the Berlin Airlift. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and his trips to California. He was a Past- President of the Senior Citizens Center in Green Rock. Survivors include his brother and spouse Matthew and Frances Moon of Rock Island, 7 nephews, 2 nieces, 24 grand nieces and nephews and 17 great grand nieces and nephews and many other special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Richard E “Dick” Nelson, 79, of Moline died Saturday, April 17, 2004 at Parkview Terrace, East Moline, after a brief illness. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Tuesday, April 20th at Salem Lutheran Church, Moline with the Rev. Tom Peterson officiating. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 pm Monday at Esterdahl Mortuary, 6601 38th Ave, Moline. Burial will be at the National cemetery, Rock Island, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #246. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church of which he was a member or the Hospital Auxiliary of Trinity Medical Center. Richard was born August 16, 1924, in Moline, IL, the son of John P. and Edna Isaacson Nelson. He married Ardith E. Hillmer on September 9, 1950 in Geneseo. She preceded him in death on Sept 8, 1995. Richard was employed as a machinist for Moline Tool Company for 41 years. He was a US Army veteran of WW II with the rank of sergeant in the 33rd Bomb Squadron, in the Asiatic Theater. He served in the Air Corps as an airplane and engine mechanic. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, the Svithiod Club, Friends Circle Club and a lifetime member of the VFW. He was a longtime Mallards hockey fan. Survivors include sons and spouses Roger Nelson of Moline, Chris and Maureen Nelson of Naperville and daughters and spouses Joyce and Mark McCutcheon of Bettendorf and Carol Snyder of Morrison; brother Kenneth and Tina Nelson of Middleton, WI; Grandchildren Thomas and Mariah Nelson; Mackenzie and Shannon McCutcheon, Lukas and Cole Snyder; and dear friend Dottie Gellerstedt of Moline. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother John.

Irma Ebbeson, age 90 of Coal Valley died April 16, 2004 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Private family services will be held at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Orion. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, Silvis. Memorials may be made to Coal Valley Fire Department. . Irma was born on October 5, 1913 in Cleveland, IL the daughter of Camille and Mary Fournier VanHolderbeke. She married Godfred “Fred” Ebbeson in February, 1938 in Moline. He preceded her in death in March of 1993. Irma was a homemaker who loved her pets and gardening.
Survivors include her daughter and spouse, Mary and Chuck Ellison of Orion, 2 grandchildren, Ken and Lisa Ellison of Rock Island, and Mike Ellison of Orion; 2 great-grandchildren, Joshua Ellison and Alyssa Ellison, and 2 step-great-grandchildren, Adam Chard and Chad Jacks and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 sisters – Martha Woodbury, Clara DeRiemacher, Margaret Raes and one brother Rene.

Janis M. Briggs age 76 of Lynn Center died Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at Illini Restorative Care Center in Silvis. According to Janis’s wishes, her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2004 at Swedona Lutheran Church. Private burial service will be held at Western Township cemetery, Orion. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to Pathway Hospice or the Swedona Lutheran Church. Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. is assisting the family. Janis M. Bloomberg was born November 10, 1927 in Moline, IL. the daughter of Clarence A.C. Bloomberg and Jeanette Wongstrom Bloomberg. She married Curtis L. Briggs on April 6, 1947 in Swedona. He preceeded her in death on July 27, 1988. Janis retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1998. She previously worked at the Henry County ASCS office in Cambridge, IL. Janis was a charter member of the Ophiem Legion Auxiliary and a member of Swedona Lutheran Church.

Burial will be at Calvary cemetery, Rock Island. Donald was born July 11, 1917 in Moline to Carl H.E. and Julia E. (Johnson) Johnson. He married Mary J. Romeo on October 26, 1946 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rock Island. She preceded him in death on April 4, 1981. Donald was a switch inspector at Eagle Signal, Davenport retiring in 1982. Donald was a former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rock Island. He was a member of the Olive Male Chorus. There are no immediate survivors.

Norma M. Maynard, 81 of Moline, IL died April 8, 2004 at St. Anthony’s Continuing Care Center, Rock Island, where she had been moved on April 7, 2004. Visitation will be Sunday, April 11, 2004 from 3-5 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline followed by a Remembrance Program at 5 p.m. Interment will be 9 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2004 at Farlow Grove cemetery, Matherville, IL. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice or to the Pilot Club of Moline- Service Programs. Norma was born October 15, 1922 in Mercer County, IL. She was a teacher for 47 years: first in Morrison, IL; then at Garfield School in Moline for 12 years; and at Black Hawk College for 31 years finishing her employment there in 1992. She taught biology, health, and physical education. Her BS Degree was from Western Illinois University and her MS Degree was from Washington University, St. Louis. Additional graduate study was done at these two universities and at the University of Colorado, Boulder and the University of Iowa, Iowa City. Norma loved to SKI, read, raise Bearded Iris and be with friends. She was active in the Pilot Club of Moline and was a volunteer for Friends of Moline Public Library. She helped with Quad City Senior Olympics for the first six years of their existence. She was an active member and secretary of her women’s investment club. She was preceded in death by her parents Norman L. and Lillian Link Maynard, and by two sisters Rosalie M. Mehall and Donna M. Qualls. Surviving her are two nieces – Rosalyn Boldt- Springboro, OH and Virginia Bennett (husband Robert) Cordova, IL; two nephews- Ronald D. Lee (wife Terry) Rock Island, IL and Larry Lee Overland Park, KS; and by long time colleague and companion Frances Leimkuehler Moline, IL. There are also three great nieces, seven great nephews, one great-great niece, and seven great-great nephews. Norma brought JOY to LIFE.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Moline or to a favorite charity. Mary Ann was born August 5, 1920 in Cincinnati, Iowa to Peter and Antonia Mitchell. She married John Domyancich on February 12, 1940 in Centerville, IA. He preceded her in death on February 20, 2001. Mary Ann worked for the Croatian Crest Club, Moline. Mary Ann was a member of St.Mary’s Catholic Church, Moline where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She also belonged to the Sheet Metal Workers Union Retirees and the Croatian Crest Club.
