George William Wallace, 90, died Friday, March 19th, 2004 at home with his wife by his side. Funeral services for George will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 23rd at Gospel Mission Temple, 5074 North pine Street, Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd., 6601 – 38th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Moline. Memorials may be sent to Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, University of Iowa, 200 Hawkins Drive, Iowa City, Iowa, 52242-1002 or Gospel Mission Temple. George was born in Muscatine, Iowa on February 10, 1914. He was adopted by his uncle and wife, William Wallace and Malvine Pope Wallace. He attended Davenport schools. He worked at Walgreen Company in Davenport for eight years, and later worked at the Rock Island Arsenal from June 20, 1938 until he retired on December 22, 1978. He became a supervisor in 1954. He married
Lillian Noggins Harris on October 29, 1955 in Moline. George was an uncompromising Christian man with genuine integrity. He was very kind, gentle and unselfish. He was an avid reader and a great lover of history, but his greatest love was his family and the feeling was truly mutual. Surviving are his wife, Lillian, son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Virginia Wallace, Mill Valley, California; a daughter, Sarah Wallace Belle and husband Haywood Belle, Iowa City, IA; a daughter Anne Louise Wallace, New York City, NY; one grandchild, Dustin Wallace, a sister Bernice Williams, Muscatine, IA, and a number of nieces and nephews, also many loyal friends. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Lee R. Morehart on September 27, 1946 in Moline. He preceded her in death on May 20, 2002. Flora enjoyed playing the organ.

Albert O. “Mack” Burleson, 74 of Moline died March 18, 2004 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Garden, East Moline. Albert was born September 3, 1929 in Guin, AL to John R. and Della Lane Burleson McCorkle. He married
Helen Verscheure on May 28, 1955 in Moline. Albert was an Army veteran stationed in Germany. He was a foil mill worker for 35 years at Alcoa retiring in 1992. Albert enjoyed gardening and meeting his friends early every morning at Hardees. He also enjoyed riding in his dune buggy on the Michigan dunes. Albert’s family was the most important thing in his life especially the time spent with his grandchildren.

Madeline “Grandma Sunshine” Fowler age 76, of East Moline died Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at home. Funeral mass will be 10:00 a.m.on Monday, March 22, 2004 at Christ the King Mortuary, Ltd . 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-6 p.m. with a wake service starting at 5p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Mary’s cemetery, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established at a later date. Madeline was born July 13, 1927 in Darwen, England to Albert and Mary Wilkinson Walmsley. She married
Jack Fowler in September, 1949. He preceded her in death on April 24, 1974. Madeline immigrated to the United States in 1976 with her children David, Philip and Andrea. Madeline worked for 18 years as a housekeeper at the former Lutheran Hospital. She worked on the pediatric ward beginning in 1979 where she got the nickname “Grandma Sunshine”. Several articles including a 1984 Women’s World magazine article described how she earned her nickname and the compassion she showed to the children on the ward. After retiring she kept busy volunteering. She worked as a greeter at the South Park Hardee’s in 2002. Madeline enjoyed ballroom dancing, singing, spending time with her grandchildren and her dog, Timmy. She was known to call everyone “Love”.

Burial will be at Lutheran cemetery, Orion. Memorials may be made to the Illinois Heart Fund. Quentin was born June 30, 1938 in Moline to Albert and Hazel Gustafson Anderson. Quentin was currently employed as a foreman for International Navistar Motor & Truck Works where he had been employed since 1958. Quentin received the Employment Service Award for his 45 years of dedication to his job. He was a member of the Local 402 Union in Springfield, OH. He was also an avid Cubs fan.

Margaret Anderson on February 14, 1941 in Maquoketa, IA. William was a WWII Navy veteran serving from 1943-1946. He was a tool and dye maker at Amitek for 28 years. He also worked for John Deere Harvester from 1980-1982. William enjoyed cars, Harley’s and Goldwings. He also loved pets. He was a 50 year member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Moline Lodge No. 1014 AF & AM, Moline, IL. He will always be remembered for his kind soul.
