Mary Ann Lohr, 84, of Coal Valley, formerly of Rock Island, died Thursday, February 12, 2004 at Oak Glen Nursing Home, Coal Valley. Funeral Services will be 10:00 am Saturday, February 14, 2004 at First Lutheran Church, Rock Island, where visitation will be 9:00 am –10:00 am at the church. Burial will be at Rock Island Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or First Lutheran Church Endowment Fund. Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd, is assisting the family. Mary Ann Palmer was born October 22, 1919 in Gretna, Nebraska to Jacob and Katherine Munster Palmer. She attended Upper Iowa University, Fayette, IA. She married Francis E. Lohr on April 13, 1940 in St. Paul, MN. He preceded her in death on March 1, 1988. Mary Ann was a school teacher from 1943-1946 in West Union, IA. After Francis and Mary Ann’s children were raised, she returned to work, where she was employed on the Rock Island Arsenal for 18 1/2 years, retiring on December 21, 1982, as a Contract Specialist. Mary Ann was a member of First Lutheran Church, Rock Island where she taught Sunday school and summer bible school. She also was a member of WELCA and a former president. She was a member of the Davenport Moose Lodge and the Rock Island Y-Wives. She was a former president of the PTA for Irving School and Central Jr. High School, Rock Island. She was presented a Life Membership in the National PTA. Mary Ann enjoyed traveling. She and her husband toured Europe on three occasions, spending a Christmas in Bethlehem, Jerusalem and a New Year’s in Paris enjoying dinner in the Eiffel Tower. Mary Ann enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Genevieve K. Miller, 87 of Burnsville, MN formerly of Moline died February 7, 2004 in Burnsville, MN. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2004 at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memorial Estate. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or First Congregational Church of Moline. Genevieve was born November 20, 1916 in Bettendorf, IA to Samuel and Velma Henry. She married Lawrence Miller on October 4, 1953 in St. Louis, Missouri. He preceded her in death on April 11, 1994. Genevieve was a legal secretary for Andrew Kopp and later Sandholm, Alvine and Ruud, all of Moline. Genevieve was a very active member of First Congregational Church, Moline where she also participated in the choir and many other church activities. She was a Lady Elk and loved to travel. She was also a member of the Putnam Museum.

John W. Kakavas, 76, of Moline died Saturday, February7, 2004 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island, after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m., Thursday, February 12, 2004 at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline, IL. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at National cemetery, Rock Island. John was born October 25, 1927 in Pekin, IL, to George Kakavas and Clara Mariuzza Kakavas. He married Dorothy Roman on August 26, 1951 at Salem Lutheran Church in Moline. John was employed for 33 years as an Industrial Engineer at John Deere Plow Planter, retiring in December 20, 1984. John was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He loved traveling and collecting John Deere memorabilia. He dedicated his life to his wife and 6 children.

Mary was born July 10, 1940 in Evanston, Illinois to John and Edith Nelson McDonald. She married Danny L. Patrick on February 18, 1960 in Chicago. He preceded her in death on August 31, 2003. Mary was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family. She was a former member of Clara lodge.

Genevieve “Ginger” Dralle, age 81 of East Moline died Saturday, January 31, 2004 at Genesis West, Davenport. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at Christ United Methodist Church in East Moline. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601 – 38th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be at National cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline where she was a member. Genevieve Kathryn Draves was born June 27, 1922 in Fennimore, Wisconsin, the daughter of Irvin and Constance Draves. She married Jordan C. Dralle on July 18, 1947 in Nashua, IA. He preceded her in death on January 25, 1994. Ginger graduated from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, Madison, Wisconsin in 1943 and was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corp, serving in World War II. After raising her family, she returned to nursing in 1968. She was very active for many years in her church and will be remembered for her friendship and kindness. Survivors include her son, Jay C. Dralle of East Moline, a brother Dr. John I. Draves and his wife Cathy of Sun City West, Arizona and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the nurses and staff at Genesis West Medical Center for their tender care and compassion.

Visiation will be 1-4 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Garden, East Moline. Memorials may be made to his family for a fund to be established. John was born December 9, 1935 in Moline to Evan S. and Mildred Esterdahl Evans. He married Connie J. Schneekloth on May 30, 1959 at First Baptist Church, Moline. John was employed for over 35 years at American AirFilter as a shipping expediter retiring in 1985. He then worked for 18 years at First Midwest Bank, Moline in the maintenance department retiring in August of 2002. John was a member of First Baptist Church, Moline where he was a former deacon. He was a member of the Svithiod Club, Thor Lodge #9 of the Independent Order of Vikings and was an officer of the former Herman Nelson Credit Union.

Marie A. Wirt, 94 of Moline died January 27, 2004 at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island. Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2004 at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Visiatation will be Thursday from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline, Swedona Lutheran Church or to a favorite charity. Marie A. Peterson was born March 16, 1909 in Swedona to Alfred N. and Hannah M. Ferong Peterson. She married Howard O. Wirt on February 6, 1937 at Salem Lutheran Church in Moline. He preceded her in death in September of 1969. Marie graduated from Sherrard High School and Brown’s Business College in Moline. She was employed by Royal Neighbors of America and at the Rock Island Arsenal from 1953 until January 1972. Marie was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline. She belonged to the Debra Unit of her church. She enjoyed traveling, playing piano, gardening, hiking and visiting with friends and relatives particularly her sisters and nieces.

Brother-in-law: Frank Bull, Jacksonville, FL

9 nieces and nephews

She is preceded in death by sisters, Lillian Peterson, Dorothy Bull, and Frances Mayhew and a brother Leonard Peterson.

Her daughter, Susan Marie Wirt died at the age of two days in August 1947.

Marie was loved for her kindness, her generous nature and her warm sense of humor.
She led a full and happy life.

Florence Rose Beauchamp, 89, beloved Christian mother and friend died peacefully in her sleep Saturday morning at home, January 24, 2004. Private family services will be held in May 2004. Arrangements are by Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. Molinel. Florence was born June 4, 1914 in Rockford, IL to Mr. and Helen Dubin. She married Ward V. Beauchamp on January 29, 1948 in Winnebago Co., IL. Florence served as a secretary for many years at an oil company in Rockford. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Moline. She was also a member of Kings Daughters and happily contributed many years in the church library. She was a supporter of Disabled American Veterans and other charities. Florence enjoyed writing private poetry, letters and reading, especially Christian devotions. She is survived by her husband and sons Jon K. Beauchamp, Moline; Monte Beauchamp, Chicago, IL; and Marc Beauchamp, Tucson, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Harvey “Bill” D. Dopler, 74 of Colona died January 24, 2004 at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis IL. Visitation will be Tuesday January 27, 2004 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm. Funeral Services will be 11:00 Wednesday January 28, 2004 at Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd. Burial will follow at National cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Military Rites will be conducted by Colona American Legion. Memorials may be made to an Eduacational Trust Fund for his Grandchildren. Harvey D. Dopler was born March 23, 1929 in Clinton County, Iowa the son of Dwight and Dorothy Lueders Dopler. He married Shirley A. Nelson on November 3, 1956 in East Moline. Harvey worked as a Pattern Maker with the John Deere Foundry E.M. retiring in 1987 after 41 years of service. Harvey was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War, he was a member of the Colona American Legion, he was a member of the Pattern Makers League of America, he was a Colona City Councilman for 16 years. He was a member of the Geneseo Country Club and the Vikings Club. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting morels and loved to golf, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Son: Dennis (Sharon) Dopler, Bett.
Grandchildren: Nichole, Ryan, Michael, Hayley, and Hannah Sister, Elsie Sawyer, Colona

Several nieces, nephews and cousins

Harvey was preceeded by his parents, a sister Betty Foutch, and 2 infant brothers.

Dorothy Swanson was born February 12, 1912 in Monmouth, IL to Frederick Lawrence and Florence Bruyn Swanson. She married Arnold Bjurstrom on June 1, 1930 in Iowa City, IA. He prececed her in death on December 21, 1981. Dorothy was the secretary to the athletic director at Moline High School and retired in 1973 after 30 years of service. Dorothy was a member of Faith Lutheran Church where she served on the church council for many years. She was a former president for the Illinois Educational Secretary Association. She was a member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association, Friends of Rock Island Library, district coordinator for AARP and a member of Fort Night Club.
