Richard D. Marie, 76, of Moline, passed away Friday, May 17th, 2013, at his residence.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 24th, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation is 4:30 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, with a Rosary recited at 4:00 p.m. Burial will be at National cemetery, Rock Island, IL where military rites will be conducted by the Moline American Legion, Post 246. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Church or Alleman High School.
Richard was born May 2nd, 1937 in Washington, IA, the son of Leonard & Marie M. Schmitt Marie. He married Leona F. DeCommer on June 10th, 1961 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Rock Island.
He was a Veteran, serving his country in the Air Force. Richard was employed at Strombeck’s Manufacturing Co., Moline, John Deere Plow & Planter and later worked at the former Kentronics as a Tool & Die Maker.
Richard was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was involved in the Peoria Cursillo and enjoyed building model airplanes.
He is survived by his wife, Leona, daughter and son-in-law, Denise & Mike Maynard, Moline, son and daughter-in-law, Brian & Ann Marie, Germantown, TN and grandchildren, Carolyn, Jonah & Sam Maynard, Moline and Ian & Michael Marie, Germantown, TN and sister-in-law, Jody Marie, Camarillo, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, David & Jerome.

Gloria Cervantes
September 2, 1940 - May 9, 2013

Gloria Cervantes, 72, of Moline, passed away Thursday, May 9th, 2013, at the University of Wisconsin Hospital, Madison, WI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 15th, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation is 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, with a rosary recited at 4:00 p.m. Burial will at Calvary cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Memorials may be made to the family.
The former Gloria Avila was born September 2nd, 1940 in Rock Island, the daughter of Daniel & Consuelo Avila. She married Jose Cervantes on June 26th, 1965 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on January 22nd, 1994.
Gloria was involved in many activities at St. Mary’s Church, including being a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Hispanic Committee. She enjoyed cake decorating and took classes, earning a certificate. Gloria loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Leticia & Juan Lopez, Moline; sons and daughter-in-law, Joseph Cervantes, Chicago and Mark & Sarah Cervantes, Davenport; 10 grandchildren & 1 grandson-in-law; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sara & Ruben Reyes, Genevieve Martinez, and Consuelo “Linda” & Antonio Sandoval, all of Moline and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Alexander Cervantes, sister, Mary and brother-in-law, Salvador, brothers, Daniel, Richard and Arturo and sister, Gloria.

Virgil Scheib
March 11, 1929 - May 7, 2013

Virgil Scheib, an 84 year old former resident of Rock Island, IL passed away Tuesday morning, May 7, 2013 at the Eastview Manor in Trenton, where he had resided for the past 6 weeks.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at DeRoo Funeral Home in Moline, IL, visitation will be held one hour prior at the funeral home. Burial will be at National cemetery, Rock Island
Mr. Scheib was born on March 11, 1929 in Nebraska City, NE the son of Anthony Martin and Frances Marie (Leiben) Scheib. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was married to Wanda Meeks on June 28, 1958 in Trenton; she preceded him in death in 2004. They lived all their married lives in Rock Island, IL. He was a truck driver, retiring in June 3, 1982 and has owned the “The Pink Poodle Salon” for over 50 years. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 371.
He is survived by a sister, Erma May of Trenton, MO; a step son, Ronald Stottlemyre of South Carolina; a step daughter, Rosalie Jordan of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Raymond Scheib and Eugene Scheib; and a sister, Louise Glynn.

Beatrice Ybarra
December 17, 1933 - May 18, 2013

Beatrice Ybarra, 79, of Moline, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family & friends Saturday, May 18th, 2013, at Heritage Woods of Moline.
Funeral services will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 22nd, 2013 at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline. Visitation is Tuesday from 4:30 – 7:00 at the funeral home, where a Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. Burial will be at St. Mary’s cemetery, East Moline. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association.
Bea was born December 17th, 1933, in Rock Island, the daughter of Pedro & Eulalia (Reves) Mendoza. She married Charles Hensley in 1951. She later married Peter Ybarra in 1973.
Bea was employed at the former Parker Laundry, Rock Island, Murphy’s Tap, Davenport, Acapulco Restaurant, Rock Island, Adolph’s Restaurant, Moline and later owned & operated La Estrella Restaurant, Davenport, the Choo Choo Café, Moline and J & B Tap, Moline.
Bea enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They all enjoyed her famous enchiladas. She also enjoyed playing bingo, card games and scratch off lottery tickets. She also loved to dance and when she owned her tavern would always lend a helping hand to others in the Hispanic Community.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret & Larry, Del Ray, FL, Julie & Mick, Davenport, IA and Barb & Tom, Cumming, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, John & Audrey, Aledo, IL, Charles & Inez, Moline and Carl & Rosie, Rock Island; 23 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; sisters, Margaret, Carmen, Mary Jo and Lupe and brothers, Tony, Rich, Frank & Jesse and dear friends, Stella Padakis, Dorothy Poland, Shirley Barrett, Sally Koehn, Josie Johnson, Josephina & Chava Gonzalez, Cassandra Lopez, Jewel Ball and Nick & Lus Martinez. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Cecelia & Connie and brothers Joseph & David.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to Heritage Woods of Moline, especially Gina Hendricks, Eugene (Heraldo) and Kimberly, The Kidney Center of Trinity, the members of her dialysis crew; especially Cory, Crystal, Karen & Dr. Alla and Hospice Compassus; Julie and especially Faith.

Ellen A. Seynaeve

Ellen Seynaeve, 68, of Milan, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf, Iowa,
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 29, at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline. Fr. Tony Ego, pastor of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Milan will officiate. The family will receive friends following the services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan, IL.
Ellen was born April 28, 1941 in Rock Island, IL, the daughter of Raymond & Harriet Allen Ferguson. She married Fred Seynaeve November 22, 1967, in Rock Island.
She was employed at the former John Deere Foundry, East Moline. She most recently worked at the former Eagle Foods Warehouse, Milan, retiring in 2004, in the Accounting Department.
Ellen was a 1959 graduate of Alleman High School and attended the former Marycrest College, Davenport, IA. She loved animals especially her 3 dogs and 3 cats. She enjoyed feeding wild animals and birds. Ellen liked collecting dolls and focused on Barbie collectables.
Survivors include her husband, Fred, a son Dan Seynaeve, Milan, step sons and spouses, Andy & Janet Seynaeve, Hampton, IL and Randy & Sherri Seynaeve, Vancouver, WA. There are 5 grandchildren and brothers and sisters in law, John & Debbie Ferguson, Milan and Jim & Jacqueline Ferguson, Greenwood AR.

Madeline A. DeJaegher
October 21, 1917 - August 31, 2009

Madeline A. DeJaegher, 91, formerly of Moline, passed away Monday, August 31, 2009 at the Lighthouse at Silvis.
Funeral services will be will be Saturday, September 5, 2009, 9:00 a.m. at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation is 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home where the Sacred Heart Altar & Rosary Society will recite a Rosary at 4:00 p.m. Burial is at St. Mary’s cemetery, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Church.
The former Madeline A. Bruneel was born October 21, 1917 in Moline, the daughter of Henry & Marie VanDaele Bruneel. She married Remi “Rene” A. DeJaegher November 20, 1936, in Moline. He preceded her in death on May 20, 1971.
In earlier years Madeline was employed at Quick-On, John Deere Harvester, and the War Assembly.
Madeline was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the Sacred Heart Altar & Rosary Society and the Friends Circle Club. She enjoyed playing cards, bowling and fishing. She loved her family and grandchildren and liked being with people.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Diane & James Benson, East Moline; a son in law Dr. Wayne Prall, Des Moines, IA; grandchildren, Michelle, Cheryl, David and Stephen and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Rose Ann Prall.

Elodia H. Cisneros Hernandez
October 22, 1921 - September 10, 2009

Elodia H. Cisneros Hernandez, 87, of Moline, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2009 at Genesis Mediacl Center, Illini Campus.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 14, at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation is Sunday from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, where a Rosary will be recited at 3:00 p.m. Burial is at St. Mary’s cemetery, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the family.
Elodia Cisneros was born October 22, 1921, in Sterling, Colorado, the daughter of Jose and Maria del Carmen Hernandez. She was blessed in marriage in Mexico to her husband Felix Cisneros, for 48 years.
Elodia worked in Wisconsin as a hand packager. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church and enjoyed crocheting, reading the bible and praying the rosary. She also loved to be around and spend time with her family.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Hortencia (Guillermo) Trujillo and Maria Guadalupe Cisneros both of Moline, grandchildren, Hortencia Trujillo, Jazmin, Rocio, and Guadalupe Piñon.

Catherine Elizabeth Gray
September 17, 1914 - October 1, 2009

Catherine Elizabeth Gray, 95, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2009. A service celebrating her life was held in Overland Park, Kansas on Saturday, October 3, 2009. Catherine’s daughters, Linda and Suellyn, would like to invite family and friends to attend a short visitation at the chapel in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. A graveside blessing will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, the family has established a Good Samaritan Memorial Fund in Catherine’s name at Aberdeen Village, 17500 West 119th St., Olathe, Kansas 66061 where she resided after fracturing her hip in October 2008.
Catherine was born on September 17, 1914 in Le Mars, Iowa, to August and Jennie Ressen. She moved to Rock Island, Illinois, in 1930. Catherine married Raymond Dale Gray on June 30, 1945, in Rock Island, Illinois. They were blessed with three children; Raelyn, Linda Kay, and Suellyn. She was widowed in 1978. In 1985, Catherine moved to Overland Park, Kansas, to live with her daughter, Suellyn, son-in-law, Jeff, and grandsons, Justin and Josh.
Catherine was a loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother; a caring friend and neighbor. She was known for her great apple pies, chocolate chip cookies and was known as “Grandma Kay” by many. Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; daughter, Raelyn; and sisters, Eva and Anna.
She is survived by her children, Linda Kay (Larry) Brouillette, of Winter Park, Florida, and Suellyn (Jeff) Johnson of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren, Justin and Joshua Johnson, James and Matthew Kokoszynski, and Catherine and Mary Brouillette; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Anna, Dominic and Maddyson; brother, William Ressen; and the loving family dog, Polly. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Aberdeen Village for their loving care over the last 11 months.

George LaVerne Spence, Sr.
April 2, 1948 - October 5, 2009

George LaVerne Spence, Sr. 61, of Milan, passed away Monday, October 5, 2009 at the Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.
Funeral Services will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 9, at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline. Visitation is from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be at Cable cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.
George was born April 2, 1948 in Moline, the son of George & Marion (May) Spence. He married the former Reitas Salinas on February 11, 1967 in Moline.
He was employed at A1 Auto Parts for over 20 years and most recently had worked for the former Meyers Vault Company as a machine operator, retiring in 1995. George enjoyed stock car racing.
Survivors include his wife, Reitas; daughters and son in law, Charlene Filali, Rock Island and Heather (George) Kisner, Sherrard; sons and daughters in law, George (Stacy) Spence, Jr., Sherrard and Corey (Christine) Spence, Matherville, IL; brothers, Danny Spence, Milan andRalph Spence, Kewanee and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters and two brothers.

Marvin A. Wyffels
January 25, 1918 - October 27, 2009

Marvin A. Wyffels, 91, of Silvis, formerly of Moline, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, October 30th at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, with a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation is Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home with a Christian Wake Service held at 4:00 p.m. Burial is at Oakwood cemetery, Geneseo. Memorials may be made to the Alleman High School.
Marvin was born January 25, 1918 in Geneseo, the oldest son of Blanche R. Vandersnick and Alphonse J. Wyffels. He married Ruth Genevieve Lough, R.N., June 5, 1945 in Geneseo. Marvin was a Geneseo High School graduate, active in Future Farmers, 4-H Club and editor of the school newspaper. He worked at International Harvester, East Moline Plant for 40 years, retiring in 1978. He completed a Tool & Die Maker Program and was a senior member of the American Society of Tool Engineers. Marvin was a member of the Moline Chamber of Commerce, representing the Rock Island Fair Board and the I.H. Company and was Chairman of the A.G. Committee.
He was the first appointed director from the East Moline plant for the Junior Achievement program started in the Quad Cities and also a 4-H Club Leader in South Moline Township of Rock Island County.
Marvin was a member and on the board of directors of the Rock Island County Fair Board for 28 years, serving at one time as secretary and 2nd Vice-President. He held several assignments at IH, East Moline plant, Chief Tool Designer, Assistant Mechanical Engineer, head of the Mechanical Engineering departments, Staff Assistant to the plant manager and Mfg. of production operations. He worked in and represented I.H. East Moline Plant in 44 of the 50 states as a troubleshooter for the plant made products. Marvin also represented the I.H. East Moline Plant in New Zealand, Australia, and 12 foreign countries, also Canada and Mexico. He was assigned to and completed a 3 year training program called Special Manufacturing Training Program. The objective of the course was to prepare students for Plant Manufacturing, manufacturing duties and corporate business. Marvin was active in the Catholic Church and many school affairs. He was president of Sacred Heart and Alleman’s Dad Clubs and Trustee at Christ the King Church. In retirement, He and his wife, Gen, operated a wildlife farm raising white tail deer, pheasants, quail, wild turkeys and peacocks. He was a member of the NRA, Knights of Columbus and the Moline Elks Club for many years. Marvin was president and CEO of Indian Hills Lakes Corp. for 5 years, acting as chairman of the maintenance committee and also heading the wildlife program. He was a member of Christ the King Church and former member of Sacred Heart Church.
Survivors include his son and daughter in law, Rick and Kathy Wyffels, Moline; daughters in law, Glenna Wyffels, Geneseo and Carol Wyffels, FL; Grandchildren, Eugina (Darren) Brant, Denise (Rob) Verhaeghe, Cynthia Van Damme, Paige and Austin Wyffels, Kurtis (Carla) Vance & Stephanie and Alissa Wyffels; 8 Great Grandchildren; sister, Arlene Goebel Seeds, Moline and a brother, James F. Wyffels, Geneseo; sisters in law and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Wyffels was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Genevieve, his parents, two sons, Tom & Jay and two brothers, Edward & Vernon Wyffels.

Steven W. Starr
May 12, 1951 - November 5, 2009

Steven W. “Ringo” Starr, 58, of Moline, IL died Thursday, November 5, 2009, at his residence.
A Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 9, 2009 at Sacred Heart Church, Moline. Visitation is Sunday, 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Church or the Moline Public Library.
Steven was born May 12, 1951, in Rock Island, IL, the son of Wayne A. & Norma Jean Bolte Starr.
He was employed by several locals of The International Association of Ironworkers. Steve worked in various states including, Florida, Alaska and New York, where he had helped with the aftermath of the Twin Towers disaster in New York City.
He was a graduate of the former Sacred Heart Grade School, Moline and attended Moline High School.
Steve loved being with family and friends, helping take care of his parents and enjoyed cooking and reading.
He is survived by his parents, Wayne & Norma Starr; sisters and brother in law, Karen Wangeline, San Pedro, CA, and Connie & Dan Morris, Coal Valley; brothers and sisters in law, Mike & Marcia Starr, Rock Island, Sue Starr, Rock Island, Brian & Tina Starr, WA and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Greg “Radar” Starr.
